[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
I have the same problem on an IBM Thinkpad T41p (Pentium M, ATI FireGL T2 (RV350) graphics card), so this should not be an x64, hypertreading or multi-core issue. I am using the free radeon driver, no proprietary drivers. Symptoms: The screen goes black; mouse pointer remains visible, but not movable; caps-lock light is blinking. When SysRq is on, the machine can be rebooted with Alt+SysRq+b, but other SysRq commands or other keys commands seem to have no effect. After rebooting, the system logs do not contain any unusual entries. The problem occurs randomly and seems not to be correlated to memory load, disk activity or network traffic (internal WLAN is on though). The same problem occurs with Ubuntu 10.04 and Fedora 13, but never with Ubuntu 9.10 or Fedora 12. Therefore, we should probably concentrate on those components that changed from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 *and* from Fedora 12 to 13. -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 475429] Re: [i945] X Freezes when compiz enabled
Tomas, the question in comment #59 was meant for the original reporter of the bug, takashi torigoe (sorry for not specifying that). These kind of bugs may look exactly the same but have totally different underlying causes, so your freeze may be an unrelated bug. If you are the experiencing freezes in Maverick, please file a new bug report about it. In the bug reporting process Launchpad is pretty eager to lead you towards possible duplicates. While that makes sense for most packages, you can ignore that for graphics-related bugs. We (and the upstream developers) would rather have many duplicate bug reports than people contributing their information to a bug reports which turns out to be different from their bug. There is some automatic freeze-detection set up in Maverick, which may tell you about the problem and offer to send a bug report. If that does not happen, please file a new bug report with the ubuntu-bug command, which will gather a lot of useful information for you. I see you have a new Launchpad account. Welcome! I hope you can contribute to making Ubuntu better. -- [i945] X Freezes when compiz enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 459639] Re: [Karmic] X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot
I found the reason for this problem. The kernel initialises the framebuffer /dev/fb0 device with the vesa driver (vga16fb) before it starts loading the nvidia driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 459639] Re: [Karmic] X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot
I patched kdm.conf with a sleep before any other commands will be executed. For debugging kdm.conf wites 2 messages into syslog: start kdm and sleep and resume kdm after sleep. Maybe you need to extend the sleep time, if your graphic card takes more time to load the nvidia driver than mine. I respawn kdm, so I can cancel the message boxes if any error occurs and kdm will start up later. This is only a workaround! Does anybody has an idea how to recognise a ready loaded graphics driver from the kernel? Looking for /dev/fb0 is not safe for every hardware configuration. A solution should work with any free and proprietary graphics driver. ** Patch added: kdm.patch http://launchpadlibrarian.net/51976665/kdm.patch -- [Karmic] X server starts randomly in failsafe when starting from cold boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560180] Re: wacom buttons don't work/cause mouse to move to upper left corner and click.
I have the same problem and came to the same conclusion trying things out with xinput. Then I thought setting the tablet to relative would help it because that would mean a relative movement of 0 but there are two problems with that. The major one being: xinput set-mode 8 RELATIVE X Error of failed request: XI_BadMode (invalid Mode parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 143 (XInputExtension) Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_SetDeviceMode) Mode id in failed request: 0x17 Serial number of failed request: 17 Current serial number in output stream: 17 Works fine for the stylus but the pad does not know relative mode at all. Great... The second problem being that relative is not necessarily what I want. Although less noticeable the same problem exists for the stylus in vice versa - which resets the touchring to 0! and here RELATIVE is NOT an option. Then, the touchring might be preferred to be absolute anyway. That's very bad. Maybe someone has an idea on how to merge the data from the stylus and that from the tablet into one motion-positional tuple so no values overwrite the others!? -- wacom buttons don't work/cause mouse to move to upper left corner and click. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/560180 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xf86-input-wacom in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-input-keyboard. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu = xserver-xorg-input-keyboard (Ubuntu) -- keyboard stops working suddenly on my laptop (i minimize the window, maximize it again -- it works) still strange https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/586215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-keyboard in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling
Sorry, nothing has changed. I think we'd need someone with more experience with weighting touchpad sensor values. The current algorithm just isn't working right. Either this is only a very specific problem to only a few hardware configurations OR I'm just so used to smooth apple trackpad in OS X that I'm spoiled... Blaine On Thu, Jul 15, 2010 at 1:47 PM, jack fleming 381...@bugs.launchpad.netwrote: I just installed Lucid on my macbook 4,1 and have this issue with 2 finger scrolling. To annoying to use it with this bug, a real shame since everything else works as expected. Is there any status updates on a fix. I am willing to test things if needed. Jack -- Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381884 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in The Linux Kernel: New Status in Mactel Support: New Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics My system is: Linux richard-laptop 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux. However, this issue applies to at least Intrepid and Jaunty, 32 and 64 bit, running on Apple Mac hardware that uses an Appletouch touchpad. It has also been reported in the Gentoo and Debian forums. From what I can find on the Net, the Appletouch touchpad was first used in February 2005 for the G4 aluminium PowerBook, and last used for the Macbook Pro in its 3rd generation, then 4th generation Intel Macbook in early 2008. The issue is with two-fingered scrolling. The Appletouch features the ability to detect two (or three) touches. OS X uses this feature to enable scrolling, similar to a scrollwheel on a mouse. The synaptics driver causes the simulated scrollwheel to start moving as soon as one places a second finger on the touchpad. That is to say, placing a second finger causes the trackpad driver to deliver scrolling signals, which means that attempts at vertical scrolling feels jumpy, or over sensitive. There was an update to the OS X driver that fixed this situation for Apple. I guess that it detects the second finger and programmatically ignores the first few scrollticks, thereby 'deadening' the output. This is what we need. The synaptics driver allows for some modification, but not for multitouch input. This needs to be fixed at source code level. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS
I may have the answer. It worked for my laptop with a video card: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE) So, recently there was a commit to the 2.6.35rc5 kernel by David Airlie (he pointed this out to me): http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/airlied/drm-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=580b4fffbbdc3c899ee1f8189ba321bd60b48840 Now, the way this patch is written it will only work for the specific card the nx6125 laptop has. I, however, blatantly changed the patch (basically simplified the if statement) and made it work for any chip. In summary, get the kernel source (from Ubuntu, Debian or upstream). Unpack the sources and browse into drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/ Edit the file radeon_combios.c and find the line that says /* DYN CLK 1 */ Just before that line add the following: /* quirk for rs4xx laptop to make it resume * - it hangs on resume inside the dynclk 1 table. */ if (rdev-family == CHIP_RS480) return; After changing this, then simply compile your kernel, package it and install it. With KMS enabled it works like a charm. -- [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577340] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS
My bad!, don't use the if at all. The addition to the code should be: /* quirk for rs4xx laptop to make it resume * - it hangs on resume inside the dynclk 1 table. */ return; -- [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI, with or without KMS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/577340 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
