[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616626] [NEW] Maverick Alpha 3 hangs on boot if using nvidia rather than nouveau
Public bug reported: An upgrade from Lucid to Maverick led to a change from nvidia driver to nouveau. The nouveau drivers seems to work fine part from not being able to enable the compiz desktop effects. Using the nvidia driver means that the default kernel 2.6.35-14-generic will lockup on boot (this is also the case for the recovery mode option, by the way). In this scenario, with nvidia specified in xorg.conf, I had to rely on an old mainline kernel that I had to install to boot in graphics failsafe in order to alter the xorg.conf to allow booting with nouveau again. Happy to test as directed to locate the issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616023] Re: nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found
I have the same issue with nvidia kernel but nouveau works fine. Only an Alt-Sysrq-B gets any response even in recovery mode for 2.6.35-14-generic kernel. Fortunately, I still had a mainline kernel (2.6.34-020634-generic) from testing before I upgraded to Maverick from Lucid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616738] [NEW] Xorg not robust when proprietary drivers are not present
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Due to bug #616734 I have the situation that Nvidia drivers are not properly compiled. Subsequently Xorg complains in it's log about the driver not being present but does not start at all (not even in the low graphic backup mode). Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Thanks for the info, I think I might give that PCLinuxOS a shot also based on your recommendationlooks fairly polished based on screenshots. I tried going back to ubuntu 9.10 (karmic) which was more bearable and although my Black Screen freezes have gone away, I still get an occasional freeze. (It's a lot less frequent than 10.04 though) On Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 11:19 AM, thecityofgold 585...@bugs.launchpad.netwrote: After 4 years of Ubuntu and 3 months of random freezing I've migrated to PCLinuxOS. It is easy to install, works flawlessly, and is based on later packages than Ubuntu. It appears that Ubuntu devs do not give a c**p about a critical bug in their distribution. In that case, and with regret, the only way to gain stability is to look elsewhere. -- Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585765 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. I can't reproduce that, what means I don't know a aplication or usage of the system making it freeze. sometimes I have uptimes of a day, without freeze and sometimes it freezes right after booting the system. I found out, that sometimes the MagicSysRQ (R-E-I-S-U-B) works and let me shut down the system, sometimes not. I don't know what makes that difference. In the system log I can't find any unusual entries. But I foun that the system log is still runing, so shuting down the wifi with the notebooks hardware switch for example is logged. Also the Wifi network connection to my router is not interrupted. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 615106] Re: gnome-panel not drawn on i810 Intel Chipset
Tonight we realized that the panel is present, because you can press alt-f1 to drop down the menu. The menu appears as if the panel is right above the edge of the monitor. I've attached a photograph to illustrate this. We've seen this happen on 3 different models of computers (including the one in the original bug report) and 3 different monitors. The only common factor we've identified so far is that they all have 82810E DC-133 graphics. ** Attachment added: photo of panel off screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/615106/+attachment/1486046/+files/panel_off_screen.JPG -- gnome-panel not drawn on i810 Intel Chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615106 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393626] [NEW] Toggle vertical and horizontal maximisation failes upon X server accelration
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After I activate a proprietary NVidia driver (the card is GeForce 9800GT) I observe that some window resizing effects cease working. In particular toggling vertical and horizontal maximisation does not work. I can only one time maximise the window and can not switch it back to its original size (using my defined keyboard shortucts, i.e. Ctrl- Shift-h and Ctrl-Shift-v). After removing the proprietary driver the things start to work. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393626] Re: Toggle vertical and horizontal maximisation failes upon X server accelration
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in nvidia graphics driver. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 393626] Re: Toggle vertical and horizontal maximisation failes upon X server accelration
I think I should also say clearly what I meant by the word toggle. By toggle (vertical or horisontal window size) I meant that it should resize a window back and forth. I.e. first press of my keyboard shortcut increases window size. Next press of the same shortcut decreases it to its original size. Third press enlarges it again. Etc etc. This periodic (many times repeatable) size change fails to work when visual effect are active. I usualy need (and test) this functionality on a gnome terminal window. -- Toggle vertical and horizontal maximisation failes upon X server accelration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/393626 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Well I bit the bullet and greetings from PCLinuxOS! Was slightly tricky for me to install.cause I had a blackscreen of death while installing. (does not bode well) Successfully installed in VESA mode, and then found it tricky to set the correct screen resolution...as I had 640 resolution and couldn't see much when I started up...but got there in the end. Cannot say I found it quite as easy to find my way around as I did with Ubuntu, but overall was relatively easy to setup and it appears to be working well. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck between screens with xinerama
This issue has been plaguing my triple-headed setup as well, keeping me from adding a 32 HDTV as a fourth monitor for a combination of multiple-network monitoring, better media capability, and bragging rights. One thing I noticed: while trying out a few Playstation emulators, one caused my primary display to resize to 640x480, and it couldn't be resized without rebooting the machine. However, the entire time it was set to that resolution, the system was stable --- for the first time since going to 10.04+GNOME (and, indeed, Ubuntu in general --- I'm a relatively-new convert from Mandriva+KDE with regard to desktop). For posterity, my current xorg.conf is attached. (Subject to change multiple times weekly, mind you, as I continue to attempt to find a resolution. ;-P) Things of note: 1.) The mouse will hang at least once per day, seemingly at random, and sometimes multiple times per day. 2.) The mouse will *ONLY* hang between screens zero (0) and one (1). There has never been an issue with the other screen seam. 3.) Screen 0 is on an nVidia GeForce 8400 GS, while Screen 1 and Screen 2 are on an nVidia GeForce 9400 GT. 4.) Again, while Screen 0 was at 640x480, there was no issues for 14 days. Coincidence? ** Attachment added: xorg.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/570151/+attachment/1486503/+files/xorg.conf -- mouse stuck between screens with xinerama https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570151 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 390943] [NEW] keyboard not working after login
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm using the latest Kubuntu 9.04, Jaunty, both kernel versions 2.6.28 and 2.6.30 on a Thinkpad R60i, but this problem affects both. Last week I made a safe-upgrade after 3 weeks, and after restart and login my keyboard stopped to work. It is strange because I can still login, but after that only Fn combinations work, no other keys. I tried to cheat this bug with using the virtual keyboard tool, but not even that is working! If I login to console, so no KDE4 GUI, everything is fine. Since this is my first bug report, please let me know what other details are needed, although I'm afraid that's all for now :-/ Any help is appreciated! ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-keyboard (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- keyboard not working after login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/390943 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-keyboard in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
