[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 569879] Re: Non-admin user logout fails on Lucid

2010-08-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Scott Kitterman confirmed that this update fixes this bug for him. I
confirm that the proposed package works fine and shows no regression on
both my Dell Latitude D430 (intel card) under Ubuntu/GNOME, as well as
on my wife's amd64 desktop machine with an ATI card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 618507] [NEW] Blank X screen when KMS is enabled

2010-08-15 Thread Marshal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

On a Toshiba L505D laptop (with an ATI M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200]),
running Maverick, when X starts, there is only a blank screen, and a cursor
which consists of a flat multicolored line. This cursor can be moved, and
ctrl-alt-f1 can be used to
switch to a console. The console displays numerous "Failed to schedule ib"
messages. This is with gdm and starting X manually with startx.

Following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting I disabled KSM, and now X
works normally. Specifically, I created /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
with the following contents:

options radeon modeset=0

The only downside I can see is that the console now has an 80 column
display on a widescreen monitor, but this is minor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292421] Re: [RV530 x1650] Black screen after updating

2010-08-15 Thread klondike
You can try this xorg.conf.

Simply backup the one at /etc/X11/xorg.conf and copy it there. If it
works then post a new bug asking for a hal rule being added to solve
this on your card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292421] Re: [RV530 x1650] Black screen after updating

2010-08-15 Thread Pastor
I have exactly the same problem with my ATI Radeon 9000 (rv250) in Ubuntu 10.04
(default configuration).
Every time during boot up monitor gets black and turns in power save mode so i
can't see anything (but system is responding - when for example i press
ctrl+alt+delete and enter goes to power off).
I can only use this distribution in "recovery mode" "safe graphic vesa".
In 9.04 i have'nt this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 606427] Re: No GUI touchpad preferences in Ubuntu 10.04 on Asus Eee PC 1015P

2010-08-15 Thread mikelococo
Is it possible that this is a duplicate of #550625. Do you have an Alps
touchpad that is detected as a PS2 or Macintosh mouse? There appears to
be no fix for that issue yet, but many folks are affected and there is
work ongoing to come up with a fix.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616891] Re: Wacom Bamboo Fun (056a:00d3 Wacom Co., Ltd): Pen & Touch don't work in any way (touch or pencil)

2010-08-15 Thread Peter Hutterer
the bamboos are currently only supported in the linuxwacom tarballs. you
need to get that and build the kernel module from there, then
modprobe/insmod it into the kernel. AFAIK, the changes never got
upstreamed into the kernel proper.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605041] Re: High usage of the cpu - up to 100%

2010-08-15 Thread Wojciech Ryrych
Sorry but I'm "a bit" frustrated. Since Lucid I'm experiencing 100% cpu usage.
Can't normally work on my system. Before Lucid it was OK. So apparently it's
fuc*** up in Lucid. You have not even assigned the bug to anyone. You have not
even told me it's going to be fixed in X time. Ati don't support my card. I
tried to use Karmic X but system won't start.
OK. I could understant if you would say: we're no going to support this card
any longer but you did not.
Sorry once again but this "community support" made me crazy. :(

I decided to take gdb to it and see what was going on, I've done two
separate backtraces which are getting similar but not identical
backtraces - it looks to me as if dst_private is corrupt somehow and how
far it gets depends how broken it is:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 618277] Re: (Maverick) 1px border around desktop

2010-08-15 Thread Thorsten Reinbold
This is not relateted to xserver-xorg-video-intel, because I don't even
have an Intel GFX-Card. I'm using an AMD X600. By the way: the Issue
goes away for a while when using "nautilus -q".

So please: chage the related package back to Nautilus.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411354] Re: Keyboard "locks up" all the time.

2010-08-15 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xserver xorg input evdev.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411354] [NEW] Keyboard "locks up" all the time.

2010-08-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Using ubuntu jaunty jackalope on an amd64 platform.

I moved to Japan awhile back and recently got around to getting the
missing parts to get my desktop back up and running. In the process I
had to buy new keyboard and mouse among other things, and everything is
working great, except for one thing.

Firstly the keyboard is a Japanese layout keyboard, but it's a cheap
variant (in the $10 range) and it's sort of noname, so I couldn't find a
good match in the settings (Japanese 106-key layout doesn't seem to be
"it"). And since I still want to be able to write in Swedish, I actually
prefer keeping the Swedish-by-default layout, and using setxkbmap jp
whenever I need odd-ball keys like |.

In any case, the keyboard keeps locking up in a very odd way. The
regular keys (any input keys such as a-z, ",", "?", etc) don't register
when I try to write in a text input field (e.g. a terminal). However, I
can alt-tab and similar. The easiest "fix" to get input working is to
alt-tab to another window, then immediately alt-tabbing back and it
usually works fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593380] Re: unity quits with CheckGLError in ./ctk-render-target.c:285

2010-08-15 Thread Tormod Volden
It was a real question from my side, since the bug was simply closed
instead of reassigned or retargeted (before somebody else opened an -ati
task). Thanks for clarifying your intentions.

Anyway, I tested with latest mesa git (and all lucid and unity updates)
now, and it does not crash any longer! So I will mark this as fix
committed in the expectation that we get mesa 7.9 in maverick and and
check again once we are there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444674] Re: Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment

2010-08-15 Thread Bob Driller
Here is a bit more information just in case it can help someone solve
this problem. The D600 also has an issue with the sound. I've read
somewhere that if the Kernel moves for any reason (installing some new
software not all, turning the volume down all the way from Keyboard
buttons, or using the power button on the keyboard to get the shut down
menu to turn off the laptop, etc), the sound card disappears. Lucid
still sees the sound card but the ALSA drivers are all messed up. I
usually use the instruction on this page

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137

to restore the sound. Time consuming but it works the best out of all
the other options suggested around the Internet. The other ones are
inconsistent. One of my Dell D600's ( I have 3) is the worst out of all
three and loses sound a lot more often.

The interesting thing is that when the Dell D600 loses sound, the touch
pad problems seem to disappear or are a lot less. I wonder if it's a
conflict between the two?

Hi,

I scrapped the ASUS M2NPV-VM MB and the problems dissapeared.
I can therefore not test with Lucid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557566] Re: evtouch does not work on Lucid

2010-08-15 Thread DarkJavi
Merged duplicated bugs into this one, we all are affected by the same
issue:

Since ubuntu 10.04 deprecated hal and moved X's config to
/usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ calibration scripts are broken.

Tried the patch suggested by hackeron here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-evtouch/+bug/546487/comments/2

No luck,,now it doesn't complain about freemono font but segfaults on
start.

I managed to configure my touchscreen "by hand" changing
/usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evtouch.conf

If someone interested, this is my /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evtouch

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605041] Re: High usage of the cpu - up to 100%

2010-08-15 Thread Peter S
Seems like it was a program I installed that was keeping the CPU
working... I removed an extremly cpu intensive program called 'boinc'
and went back to normal. Too bad it didn't show up in the System
Monitor. If you want to see ALL the processes you're running, installi
htop. Open a terminal and type:

> sudo apt-get install htop

Run it:

> htop

Look for cpu consuming processes (at the top). Try killing them with:

> sudo killall [name_of_process]

Good luck!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410003] [NEW] system freeze (scrambled screen)

2010-08-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After installing 9.04 the system has started to freeze. No issue with
8.10 and earlier.

The screen suddely gets scrabbled and the system stops responding (to anything).
Hard reset is the only way to regain control by restarting the system.

:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

MB: ASUS M2NPV-VM
using the integrated GeForce 6150 GPU together with the proporitary nvidia-180
driver.
I have tried older versions with no noticed impact.

Visual desktop effects are disabled

The problem comes randomly but seems to be related to system activity.
Typical is when opening a mail message to read (evolution) or starting an
application
or responding to a dialog. Also performing the system update seems to trigger a
"freeze".

The frozen screen shows a very consistent picture (see attachment). A small
fraction of the screen
seems to be repeated causing a staggered pattern.

The problem could possibly be unrelated to the graphics but since the screen
consistently
frozen I kind of lean towards blaming the graphics...

Uptime before freeze between 1 minute to 1 day.
Sometimes the drive lamp continues to indicate activity but
perhaps that is only the state at freeze.

After 1-2 weeks after a lot of reboots the sound started to be
corrupted. I do not know if it is related and indicated broken HW or if the
error is independent. Have tried to reinstall sound drivers to but no
improvment.

/Björn

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605126] Re: LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH is missing /usr/lib32/dri on amd64

2010-08-15 Thread jtuchscherer
Just responding to myself here:

I found an acceptable workaround. I downloaded and installed the
catalyst driver from ati's web site. The installer script for this
driver puts the fglrx_dri.so into the /usr/lib32/dri/ as well as in the
/usr/lib/dri. Now everything works again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 618253] [NEW] Error shown on screen after resume with radeon card

2010-08-15 Thread Luis Silva
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

When resuming from suspend (both to ram and to disk) the following error
message is displayed on a terminal before the screen is handed back to X.
[18446744067.740641] [drm:atom_op_jump] *ERROR* atombios stuck in loop for more
than 1sec aborting

executing C90C (len 55, WS 0, PS 0) @ 0xC92F

No other symptom is visible and this seems to have no consequences but
is worrying.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408686] [NEW] Cannot move task bar (panel) after changing "movement key" in Window Preferences

2010-08-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

If I switch my "window preferences" movement key to Super/logo (from
Alt, the default?), then I cannot any longer change the location of my
task bar / panel using either Super-left click/drag nor Alt-left
click/drag.

I guess I'd like the movement function for the panel to change with the
movement key for other windows, ie it should move with the super key.

Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444674] Re: Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment

2010-08-15 Thread Bob Driller
Running Lucid on 2 different Latitude D600. The problem exists on both:
Links in Chromium and Firefox will change if you move the cursor. The
double click on some items will not work the first time. I cannot find
the file psmouse.conf to edit the fix suggested in post 24. Any help
locating the file? I have searched the whole file system but no luck. It
may not exist in Lucid?
