[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 618507] [NEW] Blank X screen when KMS is enabled
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg On a Toshiba L505D laptop (with an ATI M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200]), running Maverick, when X starts, there is only a blank screen, and a cursor which consists of a flat multicolored line. This cursor can be moved, and ctrl-alt-f1 can be used to switch to a console. The console displays numerous "Failed to schedule ib" messages. This is with gdm and starting X manually with startx. Following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting I disabled KSM, and now X works normally. Specifically, I created /etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf with the following contents: options radeon modeset=0 The only downside I can see is that the console now has an 80 column display on a widescreen monitor, but this is minor. I decided to take gdb to it and see what was going on, I've done two separate backtraces which are getting similar but not identical backtraces - it looks to me as if dst_private is corrupt somehow and how far it gets depends how broken it is: -- Try 1: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. dixLookupPrivate (pPix=0x2dcb680) at ../../include/privates.h:167 167 ../../include/privates.h: No such file or directory. in ../../include/privates.h (gdb) where #0 dixLookupPrivate (pPix=0x2dcb680) at ../../include/privates.h:167 #1 exaGetPixmapDriverPrivate (pPix=0x2dcb680) at ../../exa/exa.c:70 #2 0x7fc132db2ff1 in radeon_dri2_copy_region (drawable=0x2c79a30, region=0x7fff2f714390, dest_buffer=, src_buffer=) at ../../src/radeon_dri2.c:309 #3 0x7fc132db3623 in radeon_dri2_frame_event_handler (frame=965179, tv_sec=1281901385, tv_usec=296316, event_data=) at ../../src/radeon_dri2.c:381 #4 0x7fc1333f3703 in drmHandleEvent () from /lib/libdrm.so.2 #5 0x0043168b in WakeupHandler (result=1, pReadmask=0x7e2700) at ../../dix/dixutils.c:419 #6 0x0045b3b7 in WaitForSomething ( pClientsReady=) at ../../os/WaitFor.c:232 #7 0x0042c022 in Dispatch () at ../../dix/dispatch.c:368 #8 0x0042184b in main (argc=9, argv=0x7fff2f714cb8, envp=) at ../../dix/main.c:291 (gdb) up #2 0x7fc132db2ff1 in radeon_dri2_copy_region (drawable=0x2c79a30, region=0x7fff2f714390, dest_buffer=, src_buffer=) at ../../src/radeon_dri2.c:309 309 ../../src/radeon_dri2.c: No such file or directory. in ../../src/radeon_dri2.c (gdb) p dst_private $1 = (struct dri2_buffer_priv *) 0x2dd1090 (gdb) p *dst_private $2 = {pixmap = 0x2dcb680, attachment = 0} (gdb) p *dst_private->pixmap $3 = {drawable = {type = 32 ' ', class = 0 '\000', depth = 0 '\000', bitsPerPixel = 0 '\000', id = 0, x = 33, y = 0, width = 0, height = 0, pScreen = 0x2c8dfd0, serialNumber = 9}, devPrivates = 0x0, refcnt = 33, devKind = 0, devPrivate = {ptr = 0xc000c, val = 3377751260135424, uval = 3377751260135424, fptr = 0xc000c}, screen_x = 0, screen_y = 0, usage_hint = 0} (gdb) p /x *dst_private->pixmap $4 = {drawable = {type = 0x20, class = 0x0, depth = 0x0, bitsPerPixel = 0x0, id = 0x0, x = 0x21, y = 0x0, width = 0x0, height = 0x0, pScreen = 0x2c8dfd0, serialNumber = 0x9}, devPrivates = 0x0, refcnt = 0x21, devKind = 0x0, devPrivate = {ptr = 0xc000c, val = 0xc000c, uval = 0xc000c, fptr = 0xc000c}, screen_x = 0x0, screen_y = 0x0, usage_hint = 0x0} (gdb) (gdb) p *region $7 = {extents = {x1 = 0, y1 = 0, x2 = 480, y2 = 303}, data = 0x0} (gdb) p *drawable $9 = {type = 0 '\000', class = 1 '\001', depth = 24 '\030', bitsPerPixel = 32 ' ', id = 71303212, x = 807, y = 373, width = 480, height = 303, pScreen = 0x2740be0, serialNumber = 12418050} (gdb) p *drawable->pScreen $10 = {myNum = 0, id = 0, x = 0, y = 0, width = 1920, height = 1080, mmWidth = 508, mmHeight = 285, numDepths = 7, rootDepth = 24 '\030', allowedDepths = 0x27354f0, rootVisual = 33, defColormap = 32, minInstalledCmaps = 1, maxInstalledCmaps = 1, backingStoreSupport = 0 '\000', saveUnderSupport = 0 '\000', whitePixel = 16777215, blackPixel = 0, GCperDepth = {0x277ee60, 0x277ef50, 0x277f040, 0x277f130, 0x277f220, 0x277f310, 0x277f400, 0x277f4f0, 0x0}, PixmapPerDepth = {0x277f5e0}, devPrivate = 0x277c6d0, numVisuals = 64, visuals = 0x277d760, root = 0x27817b0, screensaver = {pWindow = 0x0, wid = 256, blanked = 0 '\000', ExternalScreenSaver = 0}, CloseScreen = 0x7fc133a42af0 , QueryBestSize = 0x53eb60 , SaveScreen = 0x7fc132db44e0 , GetImage = 0x55bd50 , GetSpans = 0x55baf0 , SourceValidate = 0x55b8a0 , CreateWindow = 0x4a5350 , DestroyWindow = 0x4a4190 , PositionWindow = 0x4a4500 , ChangeWindowAttributes = 0x4a3330 , RealizeWindow = 0x4a4910 , UnrealizeWindow = 0x4a4840 , ValidateTree = 0x517ba0 , PostValidateTree = 0, ---Type to continue, or q to quit--- WindowExposures = 0x533230 , CopyWindow = 0x4a5510 , ClearToBackground = 0x563ca0 , ClipNotify = 0x4a4000 , RestackWindow = 0, CreatePixmap = 0x7fc1320908f0 , DestroyPixmap = 0x7fc133e83260 , SaveDoomedAreas = 0, RestoreAreas = 0, ExposeCopy = 0, TranslateBackingStore = 0, ClearBackingStore = 0, DrawGuarantee = 0, BackingStoreFuncs = { SaveAreas = 0, RestoreAreas = 0, SetClipmaskRgn = 0, GetImagePixmap = 0, GetSpansPixmap = 0}, RealizeFont = 0x7fc1322ba690 , UnrealizeFont = 0x7fc1322ba6a0 , ConstrainCursor = 0x4598a0 , CursorLimits = 0x56a840 , DisplayCursor = 0x56a180 , RealizeCursor = 0x56a360 , UnrealizeCursor = 0x56a5b0 , RecolorCursor = 0x56a420 , SetCursorPosition = 0x569a70 , CreateGC = 0x4d6ed0 , CreateColormap = 0x7fc1322a5b00 , DestroyColormap = 0x528ec0

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411354] Re: Keyboard "locks up" all the time.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in xserver xorg input evdev. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. ** Tags added: jaunty ** Package changed: ubuntu => xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Keyboard "locks up" all the time. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/411354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 411354] [NEW] Keyboard "locks up" all the time.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Using ubuntu jaunty jackalope on an amd64 platform. I moved to Japan awhile back and recently got around to getting the missing parts to get my desktop back up and running. In the process I had to buy new keyboard and mouse among other things, and everything is working great, except for one thing. Firstly the keyboard is a Japanese layout keyboard, but it's a cheap variant (in the $10 range) and it's sort of noname, so I couldn't find a good match in the settings (Japanese 106-key layout doesn't seem to be "it"). And since I still want to be able to write in Swedish, I actually prefer keeping the Swedish-by-default layout, and using setxkbmap jp whenever I need odd-ball keys like |. In any case, the keyboard keeps locking up in a very odd way. The regular keys (any input keys such as a-z, ",", "?", etc) don't register when I try to write in a text input field (e.g. a terminal). However, I can alt-tab and similar. The easiest "fix" to get input working is to alt-tab to another window, then immediately alt-tabbing back and it usually works fine. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: jaunty -- Keyboard "locks up" all the time. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/411354 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 593380] Re: unity quits with CheckGLError in ./ctk-render-target.c:285
It was a real question from my side, since the bug was simply closed instead of reassigned or retargeted (before somebody else opened an -ati task). Thanks for clarifying your intentions. Anyway, I tested with latest mesa git (and all lucid and unity updates) now, and it does not crash any longer! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 444674] Re: Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment
Here is a bit more information just in case it can help someone solve this problem. The D600 also has an issue with the sound. I've read somewhere that if the Kernel moves for any reason (installing some new software not all, turning the volume down all the way from Keyboard buttons, or using the power button on the keyboard to get the shut down menu to turn off the laptop, etc), the sound card disappears. Lucid still sees the sound card but the ALSA drivers are all messed up. I usually use the instruction on this page http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137 to restore the sound. Time consuming but it works the best out of all the other options suggested around the Internet. The other ones are inconsistent. One of my Dell D600's ( I have 3) is the worst out of all three and loses sound a lot more often. The interesting thing is that when the Dell D600 loses sound, the touch pad problems seem to disappear or are a lot less. I wonder if it's a conflict between the two? -- Mouse behaves strange on clicking in graphical environment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-mouse in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 410003] [NEW] system freeze (scrambled screen)
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After installing 9.04 the system has started to freeze. No issue with 8.10 and earlier. The screen suddely gets scrabbled and the system stops responding (to anything). Hard reset is the only way to regain control by restarting the system. :~$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 MB: ASUS M2NPV-VM using the integrated GeForce 6150 GPU together with the proporitary nvidia-180 driver. I have tried older versions with no noticed impact. Visual desktop effects are disabled The problem comes randomly but seems to be related to system activity. Typical is when opening a mail message to read (evolution) or starting an application or responding to a dialog. Also performing the system update seems to trigger a "freeze". The frozen screen shows a very consistent picture (see attachment). A small fraction of the screen seems to be repeated causing a staggered pattern. The problem could possibly be unrelated to the graphics but since the screen consistently frozen I kind of lean towards blaming the graphics... Uptime before freeze between 1 minute to 1 day. Sometimes the drive lamp continues to indicate activity but perhaps that is only the state at freeze. After 1-2 weeks after a lot of reboots the sound started to be corrupted. I do not know if it is related and indicated broken HW or if the error is independent. Have tried to reinstall sound drivers to but no improvment. /Björn ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: jaunty -- system freeze (scrambled screen) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410003 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408686] [NEW] Cannot move task bar (panel) after changing "movement key" in Window Preferences
You have been subscribed to a public bug: If I switch my "window preferences" movement key to Super/logo (from Alt, the default?), then I cannot any longer change the location of my task bar / panel using either Super-left click/drag nor Alt-left click/drag. I guess I'd like the movement function for the panel to change with the movement key for other windows, ie it should move with the super key.
