[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 523108] Re: nvidia x server settings on ubuntu 10.4
Hi, I have the exact same problem as Rajidner Sandhu with NVidia GeForce4 MX4000. Desktop doesn´t work, my shortcuts disappeared but everything else from panels and windows go well, and I get no Plymouth boot screen. Though, I´m not using Kubuntu. Compiz does not work either. I installed the driver through Hardware Drivers at the menu. Without this driver, my display goes off while booting. Best regards, Mariano -- nvidia x server settings on ubuntu 10.4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/523108 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620329] [NEW] Radeon Xorg starts in low graphics mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Testing Maverick alpha 2 (kubuntu). When booting off the live CD, a GTK dialog pops up saying Ubuntu is running in low graphics mode. I looked at the logs, and there were no obvious problems: it detected the correct chipset (X1400), and the two monitors (the laptop's built-in as well as the Dell external monitor). However, I did notice a line saying Setting physical screen size to 270x203. From the low graphics menu, I tried to select Configure X but that didn't do anything. Eventually I elected to restart X. This brought up KDE, though everything started in 1024x768 and I had to manually set the resolution to 1920x1080. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620370] [NEW] [Lucid] Blank screen when KMS is enabled (Radeon HD 4650)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati When I boot up Lucid from the Grub menu, I get a blank screen. I don't even get to see the splash screen. After rebooting, I edit the boot entry and appended nomodeset. This workaround lets me boot into GNOME with no problems whatsoever, so I suspect there is a problem with KMS. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599316] Re: keyboard starts repeating the last pressed key
The bug has only appeared after a long editing session or user session. It also appears to be related to using the shift key or other key modifier. I need to amend this. Today the bug appeared immediately after power on and using firefox. I was entering data in an online form and ... wham! Again, it happened when pressing the shift key in combination with another. So to summarise: - Shift key is definitely a trigger - Can happen at any time This makes using Ubunutu even more fraught when doing, for example, an on-line purchase. -- keyboard starts repeating the last pressed key https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/599316 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
Why can't you just put the Intrepid driver back into a PPA somewhere? I was using that driver for the entire duration of Karmic and it worked fine, but now obviously it isn't available. I know free is free, but this is simply unusuable, and thank god it's my off-box I just use for email and not my main box. The initial drivers earlier in the cycle would turn my screen on and off repeatedly, and if I hadn't been sitting right there when it happened, you would have blown out my screen and I would have had to buy a new one. The most recent I have been putting up with total X lockups requiring a hard powerdown (why do they not put reset buttons on machines nowadays?), and for the past week I have not one single time gotten up in the morning without having to hard-boot the thing. Now I just tried the raof/aubergine stuff and all it managed to do was send my X/gdm into some sort of infinite crashing loop (which is strange, because before it went into that loop, it correctly displayed my current desktop image, but before it could draw the toolbars, kaboom). So now I have to go in and reset the blasted thing. Just put the Intrepid driver back up. Problem solved. So what if this is old hardware? It's still making the entire operating system completely unusuable on it, and for how long this has gone on, I doubt I'm the only one thinking other distributions might be a good idea. -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532436] Re: nvidia driver sometime does not load at boot
Take a look at this thread in the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1501156 one temporary workaround i found was to comment out a part of /etc/init/gdm.conf after a week of working very well, the problem came back and now ubuntu goes directly to text login. I think this is part of a larger issue in init or gdm and not an issue with nvidia. -- nvidia driver sometime does not load at boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532436 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620478] [NEW] xorg crashes randomly with seg fault
Public bug reported: This is similar to bug 578750, but on my system this particular bug only started to occur recently. I'm getting frequent crashes of the X server with this stacktrace in the logs: Backtrace: 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x3b) [0x80e938b] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x8048000+0x61c8d) [0x80a9c8d] 2: (vdso) (__kernel_rt_sigreturn+0x0) [0x7c8410] Segmentation fault at address 0x40080884 This was without debugging symbols, a version after I installed xorg with debugging symbols can be found in Xorg.0.log.old More info: I'm using nv driver with TwinView (via xorg.conf) and this configuration has been working pretty stable for a while. I can't precisely say, when instability returned, but possibly the upgrade of xserver-xorg-core to 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu7.3 escalated this situation. I did the upgrade three days ago, and while it feels that the situation started earlier than that, during the last (3) days the system crashed several times a day (or even: hour). Suspecting TwinView to have a finger in the pie I disabled TwinViw but X crashed only a few seconds after restarting. It can't see a connection to any application, usually I'm in Eclipse (with gtk) when it happens, but that's only where I spend most of the time. The crash might be related to either some mouse activity (never saw it without doing something with the mouse). One crash, e.g., happened about when I clicked on the (KDE) desktop. Another symptom I've been seeing is not crashing but freezing (no reaction to any input device, including not-working keyboard LEDs) - not sure if this is related. Usually, when the system freezes first the full screen flickers shortly before the freeze - and I believe this symptom equally applies to the freeze and the crash. At other times the flicker occurs and after a second or so that system becomes responsive again (micro freeze, you might say). Please let me know what further information would help to identify the problem. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
A few months ago, I was so frustrated that I played around with other distributions. Suse had similar X problems. Fedora only booted in text mode. After many hours of trying, I now have a Ubuntu combo w/o lockups. It would be nice to know if there are alternatives. Perhaps you could let us know which distributions work for you. I might also switch, or maybe we can adapt their solution to Ubuntu. On Thu, Aug 19, 2010 at 3:37 AM, John Anthony Kazos Jr. 541...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Why can't you just put the Intrepid driver back into a PPA somewhere? -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620278] [NEW] random Xorg crash
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hello, I spent a lot of time browsing the Web and Launchpad before posting; actually, I did not find any fix to my issue. My crash appears randomly. It has been happening for months, across many Lucid upgrades. I updated Lucid yesterday. It's pretty hard to find constants to help the diagnostic. However : - the crash ALWAYS happen on keyboard input - and keyboard input only - after pressing the Enter key - but really not often - I can work for hours (or maybe days) before the crash happens - I am working a lot into xterms, many of my crashes happen into an xterm, but into Firefox as well - the following string seems to be doomed : many of my crashes happen when I press Enter in the xterm at its end : cd sancho_ed2k/sancho-0.9.4-59-linux-gtk this morning's crash happened in this situation. I must mention that I am connected in this xterm in ssh into a second desktop After having reentered my session, the same command in the remote ssh session did not trigger the crash : it looked like some filled buffer which cannot receive more data and crashed X ? - changing directory with konqueror does not (seem to) trigger the crash - I am not sure at 100%, but it may seem that the crash appears more often with kdm rather than gdm - however, this morning the crash happened with gdm started When I have time (this evening probably) I will try to follow https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing in order to add some informations to this case. Hope a solution will be found, it is a stressful bug Regards R. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620278] Re: random Xorg crash
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu = xorg (Ubuntu) -- random Xorg crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/620278 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614812] [NEW] Black screen on boot with grub options [load_video, set gfxpayload=keep]
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Since 10.10 alpha 2 the system boots to black screen. There are two lines in grub.cfg (appeared since alpha 2): load_video, set gfxpayload=keep. If I delete this two lines, it boots fine and I can use the system with no problems. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614963] Re: ThinkpadT400 Lucid fresh install refuses to boot to Gnome
** Package changed: ubuntu = xorg (Ubuntu) -- ThinkpadT400 Lucid fresh install refuses to boot to Gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/614963 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
