[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616997] Re: [RV515] Unity keeps reloading with a white background
Vish: Cool you followed through on this - thanks! Your test output indicates that all the tests are happy. Which is good of course, but deepens the mystery... Markus: Thanks for the xsession-error log! Looking in both of your xession-error logs I see a: (mutter:1347): libunity-private-CRITICAL **: file places/places-place- entry.c: line 785: uncaught error: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) (dbus-glib-error-quark, 4) In Markus' file this is line 151 - right after the place is triggered. The same line appears in Vish's error log. This is a bit suspicious... If we let the question of why this timeout rest for now (as that's a problem in another process), I am thinking that it may have some side effects triggering some bug in dbus-lib or libunity-private, that again cause libdee to receive corrupted data in import_model(). This is pure speculation of course. In the code you are running now Unity dispatches a synchronous dbus call to activate the place - this call times out for some reason (which means that the place is to slow to respond, which is another bug in itself). Since sync dbus calls are the root of all evil we are on a quest to replace all of them with async ones. In the updates slated for this Thursday (packages prolly available Friday) most of the sync calls should be removed - which *may* mean that this bug resolves itself... So if you are really impatient you can compile Unity trunk yourselves (warning: this is not easy), or you can hold on and see if the Friday updates magically fixes this. If not, we'll get back onto it! -- [RV515] Unity keeps reloading with a white background https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616997 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623544] Re: package fglrx-kernel-source 2:8.593-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: fglrx kernel module failed to build
The 8.593 driver you're using is the last one that works on R5xx-based cards, such as your X1600. However, that driver doesn't support any Ubuntu version newer than Ubuntu 8.10. On Ubuntu 10.04 your only choice for a graphics driver is the open- source Radeon driver that ships with Ubuntu. That driver should give you desktop effects. It may not work very will with games though. I recommend you uninstall fglrx. Having fglrx installed breaks the Radeon driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 607817] Re: Xorg Segfault on boot of latest kernel ( ATI drivers )
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Came to work today to be greeted by the classic gray screen with the "X" cursor. I did a hard reboot, as none of the typical key combos were working. On reboot, I was given the message "plymouth main process (###) killed by SEGV signal 1 This booted me into a root terminal. Exploring the logs I found a number of messages in multiple logs related to an Xorg segfault ( kern.log, messages, Xorg.failsafe.log, syslog) After reading a related bug item, I tried removing quiet splash from the boot config, but this did not work either. It looked like everything booted fine, but I only saw a black screen. The mouse was not present and the system did not seem to respond to key presses. Also was not given a login screen. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623544] [NEW] package fglrx-kernel-source 2:8.593-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: fglrx kernel module failed to build
Public bug reported: i wanted to install my ATI Radeon X1600pro (rv530-chip) for better graphic performance and 3D graphic. But it does not work. No Desktop effects, no glxgears, nothing. I'm very tired, because I want to change the OS to Ubuntu. On win7 the card work very fine and I can't buy a newer one. It will be very very very fantastic, if I could install a fine driver and use all the functions of Ubuntu effects and will be able to play some games. I hope, you all can help me. I've read in a lot of sites about people with the same trouble. I also want to take the driver by ati support, but I don't know how to use the *.run file. I'm very unlucky about. I'm looking hopeful forward to hear you soon. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck between screens with xinerama
@Daniel, on the video it was between screen two and three, but it also happens to me between the first and the second. I can also move the mouse vertically, but everything else is dead not even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace works. Hopefully this bug can gather enough people for some expert to look into it. I have been with linux since 6.10, and extremely happy with it. Then, I did not have multiple monitors, I added my second monitor at around 8.04 and everything worked beautifully with twinview. Since 9.04 I added my third monitor and had to switch from twinview to Xinerama, everything worked perfect until 9.10. Now in 10.04 this bug has hampered my productivity a lot. Going back to fewer monitors is not an option, once you go double or triple, is impossible to go back. I wish multiple monitor support (3+) gets a lot of attention soon. I cant believe, linux, being the workstation grade OS it is, has such a wimpy multi-monitor support. We can't possibly be the only ones needing 3+ monitors support. -- mouse stuck between screens with xinerama https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570151 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hi Jeff Craig, NVidia proprietary drivers (nvidia-current) do not accept the new ABI, which is required by the xserver 1.9 branch. In order to avoid this you need to add the following lines to your xorg.conf. Section "ServerFlags" Option "ignoreABI" "True" EndSection Nvidia-current_265.44 do work OK with xserver 1.9 after that. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605414] Re: Nouveau in Ubuntu does not work on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M
Right; I did indeed have an external monitor; a TV (Sharp), but unplugging it has not changed the problems encountered with 10.04. I've tried alpha 3 and daily live of 10.10, but there seems to be an error (Unknown keyword in configuration file) which appears to be a known problem; apparently it did not exist with alpha 2 nor 1, so I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens here before I can confirm this bug has been squished -- Nouveau in Ubuntu does not work on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585651] Re: [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p
Yes, kernel 2.6.35.3 is a stable release. Non-stable kernel releases are designated with an -rc suffix, for example the latest kernel at the time of writing this is 2.6.36-rc2. The upcoming Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" has released several alpha releases using the 2.6.35 kernel. I have been using Maverick alpha 3 (plus official updates to firefox, libcairo2 and mesa) for several weeks now without an issue, although admittedly my hardware is rather old. My system's uname is Linux 2.6.35-14-generic i686. 2.6.35.3 is the third maintenance release of the 2.6.35 kernel and should be fine for use on a production machine. Maverick will be shipping with this kernel, or possibly 2.6.35.4 (the Maverick KernelFreeze is scheduled for September 16th, 2010, as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickReleaseSchedule ) -- [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/585651 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
