[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 602267] Re: [RS482] pipes assert failure: pipes: ../../radeon/radeon_cs_gem.c:129: cs_gem_write_reloc: Assertion `boi-space_accounted' failed.

2010-08-24 Thread YannUbuntu
Hi Tormod,
I updated my packages with the latest PPA :
- gallium works fine
- classic does not crash, but does not show any pipe, just black screen, so I
tried a Backtrace: after the (gdb) run , the black window appears, and after
~10 seconds the (gdb) window displays the following message :
(gdb) run
Starting program: /usr/lib/xscreensaver/pipes
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
pipes: ../../radeon/radeon_cs_gem.c:129: cs_gem_write_reloc: Assertion
`boi-space_accounted' failed.
Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted.
0x0012d422 in __kernel_vsyscall ()

Then I continue the Backtrace procedure, until:
(gdb) quit
A debugging session is active.
Inferior 1 [process 3781] will be killed.
Quit anyway? (y or n)

Here I press Y, but no file appears in my Personnal folder... so I can't give
you any Backtrace. (FYI the black window did not close until I press Y)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 526759] Re: MP4 videos playing choppy!

2010-08-24 Thread madbiologist
This also occurs on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat alpha 3 updated to
the latest Totem and GStreamer packages. Playing the video from comment
#6 more than once and moving the time slider sometimes results in audio
in parts of the movie where there was previously no audio, but then the
audio eventually fails while the movie continues to play.

helps you increase your knowledge !)

well, according to Debian policies, let's say that I have a dirty
workaround. Now it's up to you guys.

2010-08-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Yeah. None of those logs give any reason why Ubuntu chose to start in
low graphics mode — everything seems to be working fine.

Has this happened more than once, and does it still happen with a recent
livecd? There have been a number of important kernel graphics fixes
since alpha 2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361618] Re: [jaunty] eeepc 901/1000 touchpad behaving wrong

2010-08-24 Thread robket
Hi Gursimran

I think that in 10.04 this would be classified more as a feature request
than a bug. The middle click/right click with 2 fingers/3 fingers works
well, as does two finger scrolling. I've pretty much forgotten about the
above mentioned drag and drop functionality.

I should probably look around for a consolidated project to bring the
full richness of multi-touch input into the Ubuntu desktop so that I can
contribute there?

The suggested solution (adding sleep 1 command to /etc/init.d/gdm.conf)

I'm using a Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 617201] Re: Xserver crash in radeon_frame_event_handler

2010-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-ati -
1:6.13.1-1ubuntu3

---
xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.13.1-1ubuntu3) maverick; urgency=low

  * debian/rules:
+ Drop the upstream ChangeLog from the packages, saving precious CD
  space.
  * debian/patches/101_ref-count-dri2-buffers.patch:
+ Add reference-counting to DRI2 buffers, and take a reference in
  ScheduleSwap. Prevents the buffers from being destroyed on client
  quit between calling ScheduleSwap and the associated vblank event.
  Fixes Xserver segfault when a GL client quits (LP: #617201).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 586968] Re: Mouse dies for entire KVM switch when 10.04 / Lucid machine connected to the switch boots

2010-08-24 Thread Michael Lueck
I just happened to remember this bug exists last I checked... any update
on getting this nasty one squashed?

I was just thinking about getting my production desktop upgraded to
10.04, and this bug I would really appreciate getting a resolution to
PRIOR to making that migration.

It is very annoying to deal with multiple mice at my desk... not sure
which one to grab based on which computer I am accessing through the
KVM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 622179] Re: The suspicious errors don't give sufficient information

2010-08-24 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Strby, I sympathise, our LUG has a user that sees this error only every
few boots rather than consistently, but this is not the correct bug to
try and get your problem fixed. This is only about improving the error
message when it occurs, not investigating causes of the error occurring.
However, you're correct, the problem lies with the 1777. I'll raise
another bug for that and report that number here for you and others that
follow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623247] Re: xrand -o right gives badmatch opcode 149 on intel

2010-08-24 Thread Andrew Frank
the problem is partially resolved:
i used in xorg.conf a vesa driver.
since i have installed workaround b from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes. now rotation and external
monitor works, as recommended for the 855 chipset. the remaining problem is
that the external monitor is very unstable.

i guess this bug can be closed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623294] [NEW] /etc/init.d/x11-common's chmod 1777 fails to clear setuid and setgid

2010-08-24 Thread Ralph Corderoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

/etc/init.d/x11-common in package x11-common, version 1:7.5+5ubuntu1
from 10.04 includes

$ awk 'BEGIN {RS = ; ORS = \n\n} /chmod/' /etc/init.d/x11-common
set_up_socket_dir () {
  if [ $VERBOSE != no ]; then
log_begin_msg Setting up X server socket directory $SOCKET_DIR...
  fi
  if [ -e $SOCKET_DIR ]  [ ! -d $SOCKET_DIR ]; then
mv $SOCKET_DIR $SOCKET_DIR.$$
  fi
  mkdir -p $SOCKET_DIR
  chown root:root $SOCKET_DIR
  chmod 1777 $SOCKET_DIR
  do_restorecon $SOCKET_DIR
  [ $VERBOSE != no ]  log_end_msg 0 || return 0
}

set_up_ice_dir () {
  if [ $VERBOSE != no ]; then
log_begin_msg Setting up ICE socket directory $ICE_DIR...
  fi
  if [ -e $ICE_DIR ]  [ ! -d $ICE_DIR ]; then
mv $ICE_DIR $ICE_DIR.$$
  fi
  mkdir -p $ICE_DIR
  chown root:root $ICE_DIR
  chmod 1777 $ICE_DIR
  do_restorecon $ICE_DIR
  [ $VERBOSE != no ]  log_end_msg 0 || return 0
}
$

Both functions allow for the directory, /tmp/.X11-unix or
/tmp/.ICE-unix, to already exist. They then attempt to ensure it has
the correct owner, group, and permissions. But the

chmod 1777 ...

fails to do this. chmod(1) says

chmod preserves a directory's set-user-ID and set-group-ID bits
unless you explicitly specify otherwise. You can set or clear the
bits with symbolic modes like u+s and g-s, and you can set (but not
clear) the bits with a numeric mode.

This is allowed by chmod(1posix).

For an octal integer mode operand, the file mode bits shall be set
absolutely.  [Sounds good so far.]

For each bit set in the octal number, the corresponding file
permission bit [meaning rwx] shown in the following table shall be
set; all other file permission bits shall be cleared. For regular
files, for each bit set in the octal number corresponding to the
set-user-ID-on-execution or the set-group-ID-on-execution, bits
shown in the following table shall be set; if these bits are not set
in the octal number, they are cleared. [Good.] For other file
types [e.g. directories], it is implementation-defined whether or
not requests to set or clear the set-user-ID-on-execution or
set-group-ID-on-execution bits are honored.

IOW, the numeric mode 1777 will *never* clear the setuid and setgid
bits. A symbolic mode must be used to do this.

$ mkdir foo
$ l -d foo
drwxr-xr-x 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo
$ chmod 1777 foo
$ l -d foo
drwxrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo

Correct. x11-common's chmod works in this case.

$ chmod u+s foo
$ l -d foo
drwsrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo
$ chmod 1777 foo
$ l -d foo
drwsrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo

Wrong. It fails to clear setuid.

$ chmod u-s,g+s foo
$ l -d foo
drwxrwsrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo
$ chmod 1777 foo
$ l -d foo
drwxrwsrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo

Wrong. Nor does it clear setgid.

$ chmod a-s=rwxt foo
$ l -d foo
drwxrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo
$

The symbolic `a-s=rwxt' should be used for both of x11-common's chmods
in order to have the desired effect.

Because of the incorrect 1777, users are seeing errors from xorg's
xserver-wrapper.c,

X: /tmp/.X11-unix has suspicious mode (not 1777) or is not a
directory, aborting.

see bug #622179. Perhaps this is being caused by the parent directory,
/tmp, being setgid and this is inherited by the mkdir(1), see mkdir(2),
and not cleared by the chmod.

2010-08-24 Thread madbiologist
Yes, kernel 2.6.35.3 is a stable release. Non-stable kernel releases
are designated with an -rc suffix, for example the latest kernel at the
time of writing this is 2.6.36-rc2. The upcoming Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick
Meerkat has released several alpha releases using the 2.6.35 kernel. I
have been using Maverick alpha 3 (plus official updates to firefox,
libcairo2 and mesa) for several weeks now without an issue, although
admittedly my hardware is rather old. My system's uname is Linux
2.6.35-14-generic i686. 2.6.35.3 is the third maintenance release of
the 2.6.35 kernel and should be fine for use on a production machine.
Maverick will be shipping with this kernel, or possibly 2.6.35.4 (the
Maverick KernelFreeze is scheduled for September 16th, 2010, as per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MaverickReleaseSchedule )

Any hope of a bug fix on older kernels? This kernel seems to work just
great on my machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605414] Re: Nouveau in Ubuntu does not work on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M

2010-08-24 Thread Dante
Right;

I did indeed have an external monitor; a TV (Sharp), but unplugging it
has not changed the problems encountered with 10.04.

I've tried alpha 3 and daily live of 10.10, but there seems to be an
error (Unknown keyword in configuration file) which appears to be a
known problem; apparently it did not exist with alpha 2 nor 1, so I
guess I'll have to wait and see what happens here before I can confirm
this bug has been squished

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623399] Re: nvidia drivers fail to start in Maverick X11

2010-08-24 Thread Harry
Hi Jeff Craig,

NVidia proprietary drivers (nvidia-current) do not accept the new ABI, which is
required by the xserver 1.9 branch.
In order to avoid this you need to add the following lines to your xorg.conf.

Section ServerFlags
Option ignoreABI True
EndSection

Nvidia-current_265.44 do work OK with xserver 1.9 after that.
You may, however, find that scrolling is not so fluent as it was with the

We just have to wait for the new nvidia drivers to overcome that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623399] Re: nvidia drivers fail to start in Maverick X11

2010-08-24 Thread Jeff Craig
Are new nvidia drivers expected before October? Or should a workaround
that automatically adds the ignoreABI option to the Xorg.conf be
investigated?

I can apply this workaround easily, but there are a LOT of people with
nvidia chipsets, and we can't have Maverick ship with the nvidia drivers
failing in this fashion.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-08-24 Thread peakit
Chris Halse Roger, I am sorry for making a comment (#199) which was not
in the spirit of Ubuntu. Thanks Stenten for correcting me.

Regarding the Lucid i8xx Freezes wiki page, I did try using a different
kernel than 2.6.32 but, it did n't work as mentioned in #198.

Though now I have downgraded my System to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. But could you
please update the wiki and remove the Workaround D#Upgrading as this
does not seem to work (#192, #198)

Thanks.

get lower resolutions like 800x600 usable.

2010-08-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

OS: Kubuntu 9.10  9.04

Dock Type: ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3

Docking and undocking does not force a refresh of detected displays. If
I go to System Settings and then Display the detected displays are
refreshed and it fixes the resolution and enables/disables the external
display. If KRandRTray is running, clicking on the icon will typically
force a refresh the same as going to Display in System Settings.

This overscan issue has to be considered as a manufacturing defect by
LG. The LG display/TV was recently tested with my dealer by connecting a

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck between screens with xinerama

2010-08-24 Thread Alex Cuervo
@Daniel, on the video it was between screen two and three, but it also
happens to me between the first and the second.

I can also move the mouse vertically, but everything else is dead not
even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace works.

Hopefully this bug can gather enough people for some expert to look into
it.

I have been with linux since 6.10, and extremely happy with it. Then, I did not
have multiple monitors, I added my second monitor at around 8.04 and everything
worked beautifully with twinview.
Since 9.04 I added my third monitor and had to switch from twinview to
Xinerama, everything worked perfect until 9.10.
Now in 10.04 this bug has hampered my productivity a lot. Going back to fewer
monitors is not an option, once you go double or triple, is impossible to go
back.
I wish multiple monitor support (3+) gets a lot of attention soon. I cant
believe, linux, being the workstation grade OS it is, has such a wimpy
multi-monitor support. We can't possibly be the only ones needing 3+ monitors
support.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 607490] Re: Xorg fails with NVIDIA(0): Failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory.

2010-08-24 Thread jolo
Today I updated Maverick. And after several reboots without a problem. I
also think the grub-pc update might fixed the problem. And I did not use
the nopat option anymore.

Only the warnings in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log from comment #20 are still
there

[ 17.845] WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING

 Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: xfree86-driver-synaptics

 I am unable to disable tapping on my touchpad. I purchased an ASUS K70IO
 laptop and after some minor tweaking everything works fine, even the
 touchpad. However, I cannot stand touchpad tapping, so when I went to
 disable it, the option was not there. I have scoured the search engine
 results and cannot find anything that might help. I am not even sure what
 touchpad is even installed any more. I tried to use gsynaptics to disable
 tapping, but when I run it I get GSynaptics couldn't initialize You have
 to set 'SHMConfig' 'true' in xorg.conf or XF86Config to use GSynaptics.

 However, there is no entry in xorg.conf for a touchpad, mouse, or pointing
 device and XF86Config file does not exist.

 I must be able to disable tapping. It is the most annoying and infuriating
 feature ever invented and the person who came up with it should be shot. At
 least metaphorically.

 I am using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty.

Yeah, and in case you get too interested in the gdm and xorg config and
logs. Don't. I start Xorg with startx, since my primary Xorg fails.
(That's #619990)

So please disregard those files.
