Hi Tormod, I updated my packages with the latest PPA : - gallium works fine - classic does not crash, but does not show any pipe, just black screen, so I tried a Backtrace: after the (gdb) run , the black window appears, and after ~10 seconds the (gdb) window displays the following message : (gdb) run Starting program: /usr/lib/xscreensaver/pipes [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled] pipes: ../../radeon/radeon_cs_gem.c:129: cs_gem_write_reloc: Assertion `boi-space_accounted' failed. Program received signal SIGABRT, Aborted. 0x0012d422 in __kernel_vsyscall () Then I continue the Backtrace procedure, until: (gdb) quit A debugging session is active. Inferior 1 [process 3781] will be killed. Quit anyway? (y or n) Here I press Y, but no file appears in my Personnal folder... so I can't give you any Backtrace. Strby, I sympathise, our LUG has a user that sees this error only every few boots rather than consistently, but this is not the correct bug to try and get your problem fixed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623294] [NEW] /etc/init.d/x11-common's chmod 1777 fails to clear setuid and setgid
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg /etc/init.d/x11-common in package x11-common, version 1:7.5+5ubuntu1 from 10.04 includes $ awk 'BEGIN {RS = ; ORS = \n\n} /chmod/' /etc/init.d/x11-common set_up_socket_dir () { if [ $VERBOSE != no ]; then log_begin_msg Setting up X server socket directory $SOCKET_DIR... fi if [ -e $SOCKET_DIR ] [ ! -d $SOCKET_DIR ]; then mv $SOCKET_DIR $SOCKET_DIR.$$ fi mkdir -p $SOCKET_DIR chown root:root $SOCKET_DIR chmod 1777 $SOCKET_DIR do_restorecon $SOCKET_DIR [ $VERBOSE != no ] log_end_msg 0 || return 0 } set_up_ice_dir () { if [ $VERBOSE != no ]; then log_begin_msg Setting up ICE socket directory $ICE_DIR... fi if [ -e $ICE_DIR ] [ ! -d $ICE_DIR ]; then mv $ICE_DIR $ICE_DIR.$$ fi mkdir -p $ICE_DIR chown root:root $ICE_DIR chmod 1777 $ICE_DIR do_restorecon $ICE_DIR [ $VERBOSE != no ] log_end_msg 0 || return 0 } $ Both functions allow for the directory, /tmp/.X11-unix or /tmp/.ICE-unix, to already exist. They then attempt to ensure it has the correct owner, group, and permissions. But the chmod 1777 ... fails to do this. chmod(1) says chmod preserves a directory's set-user-ID and set-group-ID bits unless you explicitly specify otherwise. You can set or clear the bits with symbolic modes like u+s and g-s, and you can set (but not clear) the bits with a numeric mode. This is allowed by chmod(1posix). For an octal integer mode operand, the file mode bits shall be set absolutely. [Sounds good so far.] For each bit set in the octal number, the corresponding file permission bit [meaning rwx] shown in the following table shall be set; all other file permission bits shall be cleared. For regular files, for each bit set in the octal number corresponding to the set-user-ID-on-execution or the set-group-ID-on-execution, bits shown in the following table shall be set; if these bits are not set in the octal number, they are cleared. [Good.] For other file types [e.g. directories], it is implementation-defined whether or not requests to set or clear the set-user-ID-on-execution or set-group-ID-on-execution bits are honored. IOW, the numeric mode 1777 will *never* clear the setuid and setgid bits. A symbolic mode must be used to do this. $ mkdir foo $ l -d foo drwxr-xr-x 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo $ chmod 1777 foo $ l -d foo drwxrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo Correct. x11-common's chmod works in this case. $ chmod u+s foo $ l -d foo drwsrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo $ chmod 1777 foo $ l -d foo drwsrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo Wrong. It fails to clear setuid. $ chmod u-s,g+s foo $ l -d foo drwxrwsrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo $ chmod 1777 foo $ l -d foo drwxrwsrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo Wrong. Nor does it clear setgid. $ chmod a-s=rwxt foo $ l -d foo drwxrwxrwt 2 ralph ralph 4096 2010-08-24 11:07 foo $ The symbolic `a-s=rwxt' should be used for both of x11-common's chmods in order to have the desired effect. Because of the incorrect 1777, users are seeing errors from xorg's xserver-wrapper.c, X: /tmp/.X11-unix has suspicious mode (not 1777) or is not a directory, aborting. see bug #622179. Perhaps this is being caused by the parent directory, /tmp, being setgid and this is inherited by the mkdir(1), see mkdir(2), and not cleared by the chmod. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- /etc/init.d/x11-common's chmod 1777 fails to clear setuid and setgid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585651] Re: [LUCID] Cannot install on eDP laptops such as HP Elitebook 2540p or 8440p
Yes, kernel 2.6.35.3 is a stable release. Non-stable kernel releases are designated with an -rc suffix, for example the latest kernel at the time of writing this is 2.6.36-rc2. The upcoming Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat has released several alpha releases using the 2.6.35 kernel. I have been using Maverick alpha 3 (plus official updates to firefox, libcairo2 and mesa) for several weeks now without an issue, although admittedly my hardware is rather old. My system's uname is Linux 2.6.35-14-generic i686. 2.6.35.3 is the third maintenance release of the 2.6.35 kernel and should be fine for use on a production machine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 605414] Re: Nouveau in Ubuntu does not work on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M
Right; I did indeed have an external monitor; a TV (Sharp), but unplugging it has not changed the problems encountered with 10.04. I've tried alpha 3 and daily live of 10.10, but there seems to be an error (Unknown keyword in configuration file) which appears to be a known problem; apparently it did not exist with alpha 2 nor 1, so I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens here before I can confirm this bug has been squished -- Nouveau in Ubuntu does not work on NVIDIA GeForce 8200M https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605414 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623399] Re: nvidia drivers fail to start in Maverick X11
Hi Jeff Craig, NVidia proprietary drivers (nvidia-current) do not accept the new ABI, which is required by the xserver 1.9 branch. In order to avoid this you need to add the following lines to your xorg.conf. Section ServerFlags Option ignoreABI True EndSection Nvidia-current_265.44 do work OK with xserver 1.9 after that. You may, however, find that scrolling is not so fluent as it was with the xserver 1.8 branch. We just have to wait for the new nvidia drivers to overcome that. -- nvidia drivers fail to start in Maverick X11 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623399 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck between screens with xinerama
@Daniel, on the video it was between screen two and three, but it also happens to me between the first and the second. I can also move the mouse vertically, but everything else is dead not even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace works. Hopefully this bug can gather enough people for some expert to look into it. I have been with linux since 6.10, and extremely happy with it. Then, I did not have multiple monitors, I added my second monitor at around 8.04 and everything worked beautifully with twinview. Since 9.04 I added my third monitor and had to switch from twinview to Xinerama, everything worked perfect until 9.10. Now in 10.04 this bug has hampered my productivity a lot. Going back to fewer monitors is not an option, once you go double or triple, is impossible to go back. I wish multiple monitor support (3+) gets a lot of attention soon. I cant believe, linux, being the workstation grade OS it is, has such a wimpy multi-monitor support. We can't possibly be the only ones needing 3+ monitors support. -- mouse stuck between screens with xinerama https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/570151 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
