[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 476866] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Dell Studio 15 (1555) via gui config

2010-08-27 Thread Aditya Bhargava
I have seen this same issue on my Dell Studio 15 (1558) running Lucid. I
have a script xinput lines similar to Ricco's above, and this script
runs on automatically boot. But every so often things get reset and I
lose my two-finger scroll and need to go and re-run the script.

I've noticed the same issue in Mint 9 and Fedora 13.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620278] Re: random Xorg crash

2010-08-27 Thread boblinux
Hello,

I just had a X crash, so I immediately run 'backtrace full' in gdb :
here are the results :

(gdb) backtrace full
#0 0x7fc5339465e1 in ?? ()
No symbol table info available.
#1 0x02001160 in ?? ()
No symbol table info available.
#2 0x01fc96b0 in ?? ()
No symbol table info available.
#3 0x in ?? ()
No symbol table info available.

To me, as xserver-xorg is not shipped with its dbg counterpart, it
seemed unavoidable.

I am willing to help, but how can I do here ? I followed the
instructions you gave to me. Did I do another mistake ?

Can somebody tell me ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620278] Re: random Xorg crash

2010-08-27 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Your backtrace suggests that X is being killed with a SIGQUIT signal.
We had this problem earlier in the Lucid development cycle, and it was
caused by an interaction between X and plymouth.

I notice you've got a non-standard “console=tty1” option on your kernel
command line. Does this behaviour persist if you use the just the
standard “quiet splash” kernel command line options?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625143] [NEW] Live CD does not boot up Gives error message

2010-08-27 Thread charl...@nashuaisp.co.za
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Every time when booting a live CD of Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.04.1, the program hangs
up just after a purple screen with the message:
03sc00i00' unexpected exit with status 0x0009
Ubuntu ver 8.04 runs as a Live CD correctly without any problems on my PC.
The CD is good as it has been used to install the program or run it as a Live
CD on 2 other PC's with lower spec AMD processors
My PC specs are
Gigabyte M/B GA-G41M-ES2L with onboard VGA
Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo CPU
Seagate 500 GB HD
Sony DVD ROM
Samsung DVD RW
Windows XP SP3

Stenten (sten...@gmail.com) has been assisting me with the problem
He advised me to press any key at the purple screen and then F6, select
nomodeset and xforcevesa
I selected nomodeset but could not find xforcevesa
Ubuntu then booted up correctly into the GUI.
I then opened the Terminal and ran ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-intel as he
said, and a report has been sent. Where and to whom, I don't know.
I was the routed to this webpage

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 588473] Re: shift key get stuck randomly

2010-08-27 Thread Tamas
I'm using Debian squeeze now, and the same bug happens on the same hardware.
Note that it only happens on my desktop machine, my laptop doesn't show the
symptomps (even with the same USB keyboard), though also having Ubuntu 10.04.

For me it only happens with shift, other keys seem immune to it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625220] [NEW] Desktop size and monitor disconnect not handled gracefully

2010-08-27 Thread Tim Holy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I've been trying Maverick daily build from Aug 26, 2010, in both the
Ubuntu and Kubuntu variants. My laptop (a Thinkpad T60) has a 1400x1050
screen (4:3), and I've also been plugging in an external Monitor (Dell
S2409W) with 1920x1080 resolution (16:9). Here is a reasonably
comprehensive report on the display switching situation, which overall
is showing signs of considerable improvement but needs a bit more love
(see particularly points #5 and #6 below):

1. Booting with external monitor connected: works in both (this fixes
bug #570011 for me; I verified that the drm kernel module was loaded
and no errors appeared in the dmesg)

2. Booting with just the laptop, and then plugging in the monitor and
switching resolution: works in Kubuntu, not tested in Ubuntu, but I
presume this works fine.

3. Setting resolution after plugging in external monitor: works in both,
although only Kubuntu readily supports my preferred configuration
(cloning the display but using the native resolution on both screens; I
use this because at work I connect my laptop via a docking station on a
shelf above my desk). In Ubuntu, if I check same image in all monitors
then I have to use the same resolution in all monitors, which is the
lower 1024x768 or 1280xsomething (don't remember now). Kubuntu lets me
use 1920x1080 on the external monitor while using 1400x1050 on the
laptop, and making one a clone (incomplete, of course) of the other.

4. Auto-detection that a new monitor has been plugged in, and asking the
user if he/she wants to configure the display: works in Kubuntu, does
not work in Ubuntu (is it supposed to?)

5. Auto-detection that a monitor has been disconnected, and asking the
user if he/she wants to configure the display: does not work in either.
In Kubuntu there is the extra amusement that manually configuring
suddenly causes the automatic system to realize something has happened.
In other words, if I manually navigate to the systemsettings-Display
and Monitor, once I click the Display icon it (1) gives me the display
configuration window, and (2) also pops up the dialog that should have
popped up when I disconnected the monitor. If I say I want to configure
it, then I get a second window (essentially copies of each other) for
doing the configuration; if I click Ignore, then just one opens. (This
bug is also present in Lucid.)

6. Changing desktop size after a monitor disconnect: In Ubuntu, before I
run the configuration dialog, the desktop is the same as before I
disconnected the monitor (meaning that there is a whole virtual desktop
to which my mouse can move, windows are located, etc, but which I cannot
see). However, once I run the dialog it resizes the display AND the
desktop, providing me with the experience I expect when running with the
laptop alone. In Kubuntu, the situation is different: if I start out
running in the mode where each display is running at its maximum
resolution, the desktop is naturally the larger of the two. If I then
disconnect the monitor, and go to the configuration dialog, then here is
the problem: it knows the display is already 1400x1050, and so the Apply
button is grayed out. However, the desktop size is 1920x1080, and there
is no user-visible way to fix that. Configuring a lower-resolution
display does _not_ change the desktop size, there are still windows over
the edge and my mouse can navigate off-screen. (What I usually do is run
xrandr --auto from the command line.)

7. I have not yet had a chance to test whether bug #476357, triggered
when I switch back and forth between two different external monitors at
work and home, is finally fixed (it is still broken in Lucid). This bug
definitely counts as the most serious issue of all, because it requires
an X restart, which is sufficiently annoying that it discourages me from
switching between monitors. I will test when I get a chance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625239] [NEW] Pressing enter kills X

2010-08-27 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After the system boots and the plymouth screen disappears and X starts
up, if I press the enter key (occurs only with the enter key) X shuts
down and starts again in around 2 seconds. In the session of X that
comes up after this, the problem doesn't occur.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484875] Re: Nvidia GPU overheating on Toshiba P100

2010-08-27 Thread Magister95
It seems I have the same bug on lucid with an Asus eeepc 1201NL.
Using the nvidia drivers helps but the laptop is still overheating and shutting
down.
I tried the script. For now, the shutdown didn't happen again. Let's hope !

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625264] [NEW] mouse pointer trapped in a window

2010-08-27 Thread Richard Smith
Public bug reported:

Problems using nedit in Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64

Nedit works OK at first, then starts to malfunction.
Copy-paste by highlighting and middle-mouse click, or by menu, starts failing
to work within the same window.
Meanwhile, copy-pasting from elsewhere (eg xterm window) DOES work. On another
tab, everything seems normal.
Today I tried to close down the offending tab by right clicking on it. The
result was that the mouse pointer was trapped within the tabs bar.
All I could do then was CNRTL-ALT F1 to do a text login and kill nedit.
In fact the X session on console F7 crashed before I managed to kill nedit, but
that may be related to pulseaudio because I was playing music at the time.

Log message:

Aug 24 15:23:24 joseph kernel: [443474.418222] nedit[9190]: segfault at
2 ip 7fee622493d9 sp 7fff731f81e0 error 4 in
libXm.so.2.0.1[7fee6219+163000]

A static build of an older nedit with motif has the same problem with a
right-click on tabs with 10.04. Not a problem with 8.04.

The right-click on a tab problems is reported separately as a bug in lesstif,
but appears to be an Xorg problem.
See: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=543647
Looks like Redhat have a patch for this particular bug in Fedora, but judging
by reversions there, it has not been fixed upstream in Xorg.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 624583] [NEW] X server inputs(keyboard and mouse) are blocked when X forwarding

2010-08-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Problem description : if X forwarding from a server (solaris 10 in my case) and
if I click using right mouse button into a forwarded window to invoke some menu
typically, the whole GUI appears frozen - but it is not. Windows and gnome is
further refreshed and working, but mouse and keyboard are dead until the
X-forwarded application is killed from the console (CTRL+ALT+F1), like killall
ssh.
This problem seems the whole ubuntu 10.04 oriented - tested also on install CD
10.04, install CD 10.04.1, Kubuntu install CD 10.04.1.
Testing :
* Tested on two independent hw platworms - one with intel GPU and one with
GeForce.
* No difference if ssh -X, or telnet is used to forward X.
* As mentioned above, no difference which desktop environment is used
(gnome,KDE).
* Situation described above works without any problems on ubuntu 8.10

Logs written right after the X forwarded app is killed :

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04
Critical problem making 10.04 unusable from this perspective

** Affects:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625280] [NEW] SRU: xserver-xorg-video-geode 2.11.9-1 to Lucid and older supported releases

2010-08-27 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-geode

Advanced Micro Devices recently assigned two engineers to maintain the
code of xf86-video-geode and the first tangible result of this was the
recent release of version 2.11.9 of the driver, which fixes several
rendering issues and code base regressions. Also, as a byproduct of
fixing one rendering issue, the performance of the driver was greatly
enhanced.

Some of the bugs closed by this release were found via the upstream Free
Desktop Bugzilla, while others were found in distribution-specific bug
trackers at Debian, Fedora and Ubuntu. Other issues still were
discovered and fixed in the process of fixing those aforementioned bugs.
More details can be found in the upstream ChangeLog.

Thus, it would be desirable to push the Maverick 2.11.9-1 version of
this package into all currently supported Ubuntu releases.

Test packages have already been built via my PPA. Building for
Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic and Lucid requires no modification.

Meanwhile, building for Hardy requires minor adjustments to Build-
Depends and debian/rules. Comparing the Hardy and Lucid versions of the
2.11.9-1 package in my PPA shows how small the difference in packaging
is.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625280] Re: SRU: xserver-xorg-video-geode 2.11.9-1 to Lucid and older supported releases

2010-08-27 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
PS: I will emphasize that this release introduces too many changes
compared to the existing 2.11.8 releases and that producing such a patch
would result in exactly the same as the upstream 2.11.9, minus the
refreshed autoconf files.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 624583] Re: X server inputs(keyboard and mouse) are blocked when X forwarding

2010-08-27 Thread kurt belgrave
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xorg.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 568492] Re: Fonts corrupted on Openoffice menus and Lotus Notes 8.5 with nvidia, compiz, twinview and subpixel smoothing.

2010-08-27 Thread osfight.de
Confirm this bug using Nvidia + TwinView + Compiz. Turning off Compiz
makes the fonts appear nicely.

Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.1
nvidia: 195.36.24
compiz: 0.8.4
oooffice: 3.2.1

Sorry for ranting, but Compiz sucks hell. This openoffice font bug is
one of many (very annoying) due to Compiz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563387] Re: X Server crashes due probably due to wacom tablet driver

2010-08-27 Thread Alex Thurgood
I might add that plugging in or plugging out the USB cable causes GDM to
exit without saving and restart. In Karmic, the Xserver just used to
freeze occasionally or cause text on screen to be selected without
releasing the selection mechanism. The only way out of this was to
unplug the Wacom tablet, but at least it didn't cause X to crash. Now it
crashes, quits the session and returns the user to the login screen. It
seems to be indiscriminate in when it happens, in that I haven't noticed
an increase in system load for example. However, every time I pull out
the cable or plug it back, X crashes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 615892] Re: Madcatz Cyborg R.A.T. 7 focus issues

2010-08-27 Thread Jm8thew
I'd like to note that I am affected by this issue as well. However I did
find a work around on my system (mint 9, ubuntu 10.04).

Right after the symptoms begin to pop up and my computer freezes except
for the one window, I press ctrl alt backspace, drop back into log in
screen, log back in, and usually the mouse works fine after this. If i
disconnect and reconnect the mouse, the issue returns. Also, as I recall
(it's been awhile since I tried to fix it myself) if I fiddle with the
mouse settings using xinput the issue returns again.

I think this one should be triaged. Should I mark it so? If it has been
confirmed and it has enough details to get fixed, and if it has no dups
then it should be triaged.

** Summary changed:

- Pressing enter kills X
+ Pressing enter key kills X

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)
