[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 623399] Re: nvidia drivers fail to start in Maverick X11
So NVidia has now publiced a new driver pre-release 256.52. That one does support new video ABI xserver xorg 8, which is required by the xserver 1.9. Now this will fix this bug. It is no more needed to put ignoreAbi text into the xorg.conf to bypass this issue. So, please do build a nvidia-current_256.52 deb package into maverick repo (restricted). -- nvidia drivers fail to start in Maverick X11 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623399 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626159] [NEW] Xorg instability and freezes : nvidia-current 256.44 - amd64 and ubuntu maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi there, latest drivers installed by either distro repo or by the installer with Ubuntu maverick fail often and regularly. Always reproducable using x264 video and vdpau output via mplayer and doing resizes ff/rwd of video. Also occurs doing simple things (open firefox/ view menu of application launcher). DPMS off makes slightly more stable although still crashes with mplayer test. Have tested against 2.6.35-17 and 2.6.35-19 maverick amd64 kernels. Have also tested with xorg-edgers ppa xorg versions but with same results as described here. System hangs, often still able to get in via network, however doing intensive things (cat large syslog ) will hang the process. Xorg and any offending triggering application cannot be killed manually. gdm restart also does not work. shutdown now and reboot will not trigger reboot. Power must be cycled. Attached are various dump I was able to obtain during a freeze. nvidia-bug report hangs during collection so may be incomplete. Also the ABI for the 256.44 drivers is out of date and needs updating, but this is a seperate issue to the general instability. Have attempted using xorg-edgers ppa with same result. Also attempted to use the 256.35 drivers but it complains of missing linux-vdso.so.1 library and X does not load. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626159] Re: Xorg instability and freezes : nvidia-current 256.44 - amd64 and ubuntu maverick
Please note that the installer log info in the nvidia bug report shows the old installer log where attempted manual install of .35 beta driver. This was removed and the dump relates to the repo supplied nvidia- current (256.44) drivers, it is valid just a little misleading at the top. I manually verified all the manual nvidia installer components had been removed. -- Xorg instability and freezes : nvidia-current 256.44 - amd64 and ubuntu maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626027] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2
It looks to me like the problem was with xorg-driver-fglrx, which still had some diversions registered for /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 and /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 despite it no longer being a real package. So when fglrx tried to restore the libGL.so stuff it failed causing the entire uninstall to fail. I resolved the problem by forcing a reinstall of fglrx then manually running: sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 Then I was able to uninstall fglrx successfully. VDPAU still isn't working even with the newer fglrx driver, but that's a different problem I believe. -- package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626220] [NEW] Incorrect 05-evdev.conf prevents X from registering input methods: no keyboard nor mouse
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev All input classes in evdev.conf have the following match line: MatchDevicePath /dev/input/event* but X reports all my input devices as either /dev/eventN (where N is 1, 2, 3...) or /dev/mouseN. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616394] Re: dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: miEmptyData
This might be related: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=153963 . So it seems that making their legacy drivers work with X server 1.9 is low priority issue for NVidia. Too bad that some (including me) just can't upgrade to nvidia-current. I don't know the details to be sure, but for now it seems there is nothing we (as Ubuntu community) can do but wait. It would be great if nouveau worked with my gfx card, though :) -- dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/extra-modules/nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: miEmptyData https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 480644] [NEW] Mouse and Keyboard stuttering/unresponsive - results in some lost key strokes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Since upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 my USB mouse and keyboard 'stutter' - they're unresponsive and keep stopping (the mouse), and when I type (quickly) I'm seeing some missed keystrokes. This is when the machine is idling (load ave:0.06), though some apps are running, and it gets worse when the machine loaded. It was fine in 9.04 - apart from when the system was heavily loaded the mouse would be somewhat unresponsive but I never lost keystrokes. The machine (Sun W1100z/2100z) is a dual 2GHz AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 246 with 2GB RAM, the usb( 2@ AMD-8111 + 3...@nec Corporation) USB is being driven by Linux 2.6.31-15-generic ohci_hcd. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620478] Re: xorg crashes randomly with seg fault
Some more updates: - I suspected a broken CD drive to influence the behavior, disconnected the CD and again saw some crashes. - I tried all 3 performance levels (see bug 526857 comment 5), X still crashes in all these configurations. - I observed one freeze (not crash) while logging into KDE, no mouse action at that time. (see above hypothesis about a connection between mouse activity and the bug). Because it was a hard freeze (not even sys- req emergency umount or emergency reboot worked), no traces of the problem could be found on the machine. --- Given the lack of activity in this report, let me ask whether there is any use in providing more info in this bug? I intentionally did not try any other versions of any software involved, because the infected machine could be a good testbed for future attempts to narrow down what exactly is broken here. However, I can't wait forever, since, as mentioned repeatedly, the machine is in this state unusable for any serious work. I will have to install a working OS on this machine soon. -- xorg crashes randomly with seg fault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/620478 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 477506] [NEW] Slow rendering / high CPU usage on games and flash videos
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have noticed rather slow rendering and high CPU usage in Ubuntu 9.10. So far I have encountered visible slow downs in various Java games, most noticeable in 'Haven Hearth' which is completely unplayable. I have also seen choppy rendering in flash videos, Gnome and various other places. Most of the time it is barely visible, however at other times it's extremely bad, it seems to depend on what application you are using. Java shows abnormally high CPU usage which I believe is the cause of the choppy rendering, I have not confirmed high CPU usage in any other application. This bug is not present in Ubuntu 9.04, other people have reported this same problem on the Ubuntu Forums. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1313982 My hardware is as follows: CPU: Pentium 4 3.05GHz 915 Mobo: Sunshine (GA-8I915PM Ver 1.1) Chipset: Intel 915P Audio: Realtek HDA ALC880 Ethernet Controller: Realtek RTL8100C RAM: 3072MB DDR2 533MHz GPU: nVidia 9600GT 512MB PCI-E ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- Slow rendering / high CPU usage on games and flash videos https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477506 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 468223] [NEW] Karmic mouse and keyboard delays
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Mouse clicks and keyboard presses seem randomly delayed for 3 to 5 seconds. As I type this, sometimes text won't show for a while. Also, sometimes the mouse icon would not change when, for example, I tried clicking or dragging something. It would usually still move, but the icon and action performed by the click would not take place until after the delay. So far, I may have only experienced this in Firefox, but I doubt that's causing it, because I don't know of any reason Firefox would cause delays. Also, I'm not running any extra programs. I just updated from Jaunt 9.04 to Karmic 9.10 yesterday. I never had any problems like this in Jaunty, and the frequency of them seems to be increasing. I have an Acer Aspire 5515 with 3GB of RAM, so I don't understand why I would have such long delays running just one program. I have not installed any new software since then (except reinstalled SCIM, which the upgrade removed, but I experienced this problem before that reinstall, I think.).
