[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 511001] Re: [i855] Lucid Freeze shortly after X startup (needs KMS blacklist?)
So the best workaround so far for me is to use the https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/experimental kernel which gives me KMS, 3D and XV with no problems. Erm, actually that's true for an older kernel that Brian Rogers had uploaded there: 2.6.34rc3-51-generic With the last kernel there (2.6.35rc4-v9patch1.e467e10), KMS isn't working and X will only start in fail-safe mode (vesa). @Brian, could you please reupload 2.6.34rc3-51-generic because I want to install it to another laptop with 855 and I didn't keep the .deb? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 476817] Re: [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard
@Brian Rogers: I tried the last kernel from your ppa (2.6.35rc4-v9patch1.e467e10) on another laptop with 855, and X wouldn't start unless nomodeset was used. Could you please reupload 2.6.34rc3-51-generic because that works for me, but I didn't keep the .deb? Thank you! The other methods listed in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes won't give me KMS, XV and 3D simultaneously, so 2.6.34rc3-51-generic is the only way for my graphics card to work properly. -- [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/476817 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 631130] Re: In all apps, slow UI since 10.04 install
I plan to video each of the problems mentioned - I am using `recordMyDesktop`. Hopefully, this will be useful. I am having difficulties repeating conditions reliably. First, I will records the highlight problem: highlighting should not start without mouse down (highlighting as mouse moves while down, and quit when mouse goes up.); problem is that sometimes highlighting starts without mouse being down - it spontaneously starts highlighting a short instance after click of mouse. Please indicate if there is another way to record. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 469832] [NEW] Displaying a 'visual effect' causes system to hang
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Just upgraded to 9.10 on an Intel Atom system with a widescreen (16:9) monitor. Desktop and simple applications are fine, but opening OpenOffice and FireFox cause the system to completely hang - all I can do is to reboot with the power or reset button. Similarly, the system hangs when any application displays a transparent drop-down menu. When I start a Failsafe session, Appearance Preferences say 'no visual effects' and OpenOffice and FireFox don't hang. So it seems to hang when the system tries to display a 'visual effect' - suspect it is linked to the Alpha Channel functionality. When I load a normal Gnome session, the menu to select Application Preferences displays a transparent dropdown, so the system hangs and I can't check that 'visual effects: none' is not selected... What should happen? The system not hanging would be a good start... I can live without transparent drop down menus for a while. Follow-up: when browsing through the screensavers, one of them ('Euphoria') caused the system to hang. Which rather fits the pattern. Whenever I try to access the screensavers now, Euphoria is the default and the system hangs, preventing me from changing it - which is annoying, but just another example fo the bug at work. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: karmic lucid -- Displaying a 'visual effect' causes system to hang https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469832 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Doesn't matter though Horizontal scroll problems aren't related to kernel generally. I hope now you know how to how to get outputs from terminal. Try to vertical and horizontal scroll, while keeping your cursor inside that window. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop
I have the same problem with fresh installation of Lucid and in my case it is caused probably by the DRI. I have ATI Radeon X1950Pro AGP card and I'm using 'radeon' open source driver. When I turn off DRI in xorg.conf, everything is fine, but video playback is extremely slow, because I cant use Xv acceleration without DRI. When I turn DRI on, X server freezes on login screen. I also can't use KMS, because with KMS on I see only garbled stripes on screen. I tried several combinations in Xorg.conf and anytime I turned on DRI the Xserver freezed at startup. I tried stable xserver-xorg-video-ati package and also the latest PPA directly from GIT (currently 1:6.13.99+git20100903.2b98ec1f-0u). I spent almost two days with this annoying bug and I have functional Lucid, but I can't watch movies. This is very upleasable experience, because I finaly decided to move from Windows to Linux/Ubuntu and now I have to turn back. In attachment is my Xorg configuration and log file. ** Attachment added: xorg.tar.gz https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/567696/+attachment/1570457/+files/xorg.tar.gz -- [Radeon] [Lucid] [mi] EQ overflowing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240916] Re: can't configure display resolution (monitor, graphics card) manually in gui
I had forgotten about this yet another thing Ubuntu refuses to even provide a workaround much less fix. Some quick notes - yes I want this fixed too (actually I've abandoned Ubuntu - they will ruin notifications, but not put a refresh in the network manager which is similarly broken, nor fix it - more of the automatic is broken but we won't give you a manual option theory). First, it isn't just monitors. My original problem was a laptop with a VIA chipset. The original driver had a few problems (mainly wiht 3d), but was usable (E-F). G or H broke it and removed the manual configuration. The VIA driver locked up constantly (no, they never fixed that), but I could use the default minimal VESA, but it was 800x600 although the bios and everything else said the screen was 1024x768. But now there was no way to tell X even to use a plain VESA mode of 1024x768 with what amounted to standard VESA monitor timings. There is no detection involved. Worse, it wasn't just removed from the distribution disk, it was removed from the repositories. If I wanted it, I would have to track down the old source and recompile from scratch. It isn't a big, complex job looking into strange driver code and hardware, it is just putting back one tiny freaking program into the repositories if not the main distro. Right now I can't tell it that my monitor is a plain, vanilla, standard VESA with resolution of 1024x768. VESA is not some complex or quirky hardware, it is a freaking standard! And Ubuntu doesn't support it. It isn't a high priority because their policy seems never to fix severely broken automatic configuration - either setup like this or ongoing like network-manager (they have time for vanity UI changes though), but at the same time rip out all the manual configuration so if your hardware is affected there is no way for you to fix it. I'm in the process of switching to Fedora (13) - it seems to be more stable, and although not everything is fixed, it has a large package library and so far they seem to be more friendly to older hardware. -- can't configure display resolution (monitor, graphics card) manually in gui https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240916 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to x-kit in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
i830 gets same problem with' Beta 2.6.35-20. That level of Beta is supposed to default to vesa according to Brian Rogers but does not, skips the intel driver on purpose, skips vesa by mistake, then fbdevhw gets Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. I'll update bug #633593 as well. So I specified i915.modeset=1 which bypasses the KMS blacklist, gets the default intel driver, KMS is up and running, and for ordinary use even internet videos running O.K. Frankly, Maverick Beta you tube videos running better than any previous Ubuntu on this 1 gHz Celeron. HD rather jerky of course. For my i830 and my i845G running the default beta intel driver Version: 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu3 running fine for ordinary use. vesa also runs O.K. on this i830. I'll be testing Beta updates to see if the bug of not defaulting to vesa gets fixed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 635724] [NEW] Nvidia : default xorg.conf settings prevent smooth Compiz operation (jerky animation)
Public bug reported: Hi ! Ubuntu automatically generates an xorg.conf file when installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers. It works very well overall, however, one cannot get a smooth Compiz experience without addiing two options in xorg.conf. * Option TripleBuffer True : without this option, some effects like the scale effect (like the OSX Exposé) are *very* jerky. Moreover it might make things generally smoother at a cost of a little more delay in games which is generally not visible (I personally never noticed it) * Option DynamicTwinView false : this is sadly more annoying because it would disable some important features of the Nvidia drivers. However, I think it should be discussed with Nvidia, because this feature makes the nvidia driver report a bad vertical frequency value, which renders animations less smooth. * Moroever, the Sync to VBlank setting in nvidia settings should also be enabled by default. (I also filled in a report about the default Compiz value). All in all, getting a smooth Compiz ( OpenGL) experience with an nvidia GPU implies changing 4 values... I think this is a major concern for mainstream users... Because most of them will stay with the default values and have jerky / torn animations. (in movies / games / compiz) Cheers ! i845G and i830 run all ordinary applications, office, internet, internet video, ... without Compiz. Blacklisting Compiz for them is just fine with me, since I usually check on install and set System Preferences Appearance Visual Effects None anyway. Of course I'm interested in running applications full screen so I don't have any interest in desktop eye candy anyway. I do note from comments on the forum others are interested in desktop eye candy. By the way, my i845G and i830 are running Mavierick Beta with i915.modeset=1, KMS active, O.K. not that I do anything with KMS or switching modes. See bug #541492. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 635756] [NEW] X11 does not start with glx enabled (ATI Radeon HD 4670)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When i boot Ubuntu without an /etc/X11/xorg.conf the screen gets black before the GDM login screen. The graphics card doesn't provide any output and i am not able to switch to a console. I think the driver brings the card into a bad state so output is deactivated. If i create a xorg.conf with a deactivated glx extension in can start normal and of course i don't have 3D acceleration. Is the fglrx driver not working yet? At least i was able to install it and i think this should not bring up this situation. I have a Dell C400 running Lubuntu (happened in Ubuntu as well) 10.04 that is exhibiting the same behavior. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 581496] Re: [i945gme] Computer freeze for 5mn while watching a video on VLC.
I seem to have the same problem or at least a very similar problem. I did not see this in Ubuntu 9.04. But after I upgrade to 10.04, I started to see it. Here is my symptom. I use DVDAuthor to create DVD from video clips. When I play it on VLC, I noticed that between two video clips, VLC often freezes for a few seconds, but the progress bar continues to move. So when freeze is done, I have missed a small portion of the video. This freeze is very noticeable if I fast forward x8 speed (You may have to do this when playing DVD that has been copied to disk, x8 is too fast for a DVD disk). Interesting thing is that this only happens if I play DVD by opening the DVD directory. If I open the individual VTS_01_x.VOB file from within the DVD directory, I do not see the freeze at all. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 587708] Re: [i945gm] lucid: moving pointer over auto-hidden KDE panel with a non-KDE app icon in the systray triggers an X crash.
I still have this bug even with the latest Lucid updates. I tried xorg- edgers but then I couldn't use my keyboard and mouse so I was not able to check if I can reproduce this bug this xorg-edgers. I did 3 tests using Lucid official repository X.org packages and Linux 2.6.34 kernel (which I compiled myself from kernel.org sources). For each test I collected these files : * decoded_error_state (/sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state decoded with intel_error_decode) * /var/log/dmesg * /var/log/Xorg.0.log * dmesg output (dmesg dmesg_output) The attached tarball Xcrash-debuginfo.tar.gz has the following files : First test scenario : X crashed after I moved the mouse pointer over the auto-hidden KDE panel with the aMSN systray icon : debuginfo/decoded_error_state debuginfo/Xorg.0.log debuginfo/dmesg debuginfo/dmesg_output Second test scenario: the same scenario as the first (after a reboot) debuginfo2/decoded_error_state debuginfo2/dmesg_output debuginfo2/Xorg.0.log debuginfo2/dmesg Third test : X crashed after I moved the mouse pointer over the auto-hidden KDE panel with the Skype systray icon : debuginfo3/dmesg_output debuginfo3/Xorg.0.log debuginfo3/dmesg debuginfo3/decoded_error_state In all three cases, drm.debug=0x02 was passed to the 2.6.34 kernel I can see lines with 3DSTATE_ in all decoded GPU dumps. ** Attachment added: Xcrash-debuginfo.tar.gz https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/587708/+attachment/1571241/+files/Xcrash-debuginfo.tar.gz -- [i945gm] lucid: moving pointer over auto-hidden KDE panel with a non-KDE app icon in the systray triggers an X crash. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 581496] Re: [i945gme] Computer freeze for 5mn while watching a video on VLC.
I tested a little more and compared playing from a DVD directory with playing a VOB file from within the DVD directory. Playing the VOB files also has the freeze between the video clips, it is just not as obvious as playing DVD from the directory. It is as if VLC is playing, but when it gets close to the clip end, display does not update until next clip starts. It thus misses the end of the clip. Sometimes the freeze lasts a little longer so the beginning of the next clip is also missing. I also want to point out that I group several clips together for a chapter. So the freeze happens at the border of each clip, not just between the chapters. -- [i945gme] Computer freeze for 5mn while watching a video on VLC. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/581496 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 476817] Re: [i855] [karmic] X freezes with intel 855GM videocard
Thank you Brian for all the help. I tried linux-image-2.6.35-ppa20+v9patch-generic and the cursor was invisible. I tried linux-image-2.6.35-ppa20+v9+cursorfix-generic and almost everything was working fine: KMS, 3D, XV... glxgears even reported 308 fps instead of 260 fps that it showed with the 2.6.34rc3-51-generic kernel. An annoying glitch with linux-image-2.6.35-ppa20+v9+cursorfix-generic though: every exactly 10 seconds, a process named kslowd000 caused a CPU spike, which resulted in the computer hanging for half a second - mouse not moving, screen not updating etc. So the best solution for me was to clone my hard disk to transfer the old 2.6.34rc3-51-generic to the other laptop. I hope that the CPU glitch above can be fixed so that I can use the newer kernel with its significant performance improvement. Btw, why aren't those kernels mentioned in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes ? It's the only way to make those laptops work properly in Lucid... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418209] [NEW] dual head with full screen tsclient / remote-desktop prevents keyboard focus following mouse focus for previously selected windows.
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hardware / Software: Machine is running 64 bit Ubuntu 9.04 (upgraded from 8.04),has a dual GPU video card running dual head working otherwise perfectly with dual X-sessions and gnome. Problem: If I run tsclient full screen (not sure if it matters but it's to a Windows 2003 server) on one screen then keyboard focus does not follow mouse focus when changing to the other screen UNLESS I select a different window to the previously selected one. If the remote desktop is not full screen then everything works as expected. To Reproduce: 1) Configure machine dual head, dual x-sessions. 2) Open tsclient on one screen (for reference the right screen), connect to a remote machine full screen. 3) Open a couple of windows in the other screen (I'm using opera and gedit, again for reference the left screen). 4) Open something on the remote desktop (eg notepad), type something. 5) Select something on the other screen (eg gedit), type something. 6) Reselect notepad on the remote desktop, type something 7) Reselect gedit, type something 8) Attempt to select the top bar on gedit and move it round the screen. Expected results: 1) Keyboard focus follows mouse focus, step 7 should results in text in gedit. 2) gedit window should be moved by mouse, step 8 should result in the window being 'picked up' and moved round the screen. Actual results: Keyboard focus stays in the remote desktop session, anything typed appears in the previous window selected in the remote desktop. Once anything has been typed then the mouse is unable to 'pick up' the 'active' screen (prior to anything being typed it works), selecting a non active screen works exactly as expected and keyboard focus is given to that window. Workaround: 1) Select a non-active window (on the left screen), then select gedit again, type something. 2) Maximise rather than full screen the remote-desktop / tsclient session. Other Notes: Behavior is not consistent on all applications, Firefox works exactly as expected. Opera, gedit, gnome-terminal does not. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: jaunty -- dual head with full screen tsclient / remote-desktop prevents keyboard focus following mouse focus for previously selected windows. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418209 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 468649] [NEW] mouse problems in Ubuntu 9.10
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I installed Ubuntu 9.1 and had no problems the first day. The second day. the mouse would stop working when a program like Firefox or Synaptic Package would be opened or closed. Occasionaly, it wouldn't work on startup (but rarer). Rebooting gets it going again. Tried both a Microsoft optical USB mouse and old Microsoft PS2 mouse. The failures are inconsistent and there doesn't seem to be a pattern. But when it stops, there is nothing I can do even with the keyboard. The computer is a Mini-itx with Via EN12000 chip, solid state drive, 1 GB ram, running a Philips 19 LCD, Right now it is working. It may be a boot issue but I am guessing at this point. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 630632] Re: [i945GME] Kwin compositing fail on maverick
Alright, I've installed the PPA version, and I think it improves matters, although after a while, I still hit a situation where applications weren't accepting mouse input (I could still move and resize the top window with the mouse). I don't know if that's part of the same issue, or something different. Is there a more systematic way to test than wildly clicking around a load of applications? -- [i945GME] Kwin compositing fail on maverick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 405209] Re: Kubuntu hangs on initial boot when the monitor has a resolution greater than 1280x1024
This was able to be reproduced on several systems with NVIDIA video cards and high resolution LCD monitors. I have since used 10.04 on the same systems and it works flawlessly. It appeared to be a fault with the default Nvidia driver, as it worked at 1280x1024 and at that resolultion I has able to install the optional Nvidia drivers and then use either a single monitor at 1920x1200 or with dual monitors at about 1600x1050. I am happy to see this closed based on changes in 10.04 Regards Kevin -- Kubuntu hangs on initial boot when the monitor has a resolution greater than 1280x1024 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/405209 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 635976] [NEW] xorg, system hangs, aspect ratio, 10.10beta
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Hello All, For a long time I have had this this sketchy SOYO LCD monitor that I have attached to my laptop. I just got a new laptop a Dell Latitude E6410 and tried installing Ubuntu 10.04 on it. I had lots of problems with the display so I decided to just use the 10.10 beta since I had used 10.04beta and it worked pretty well. Ubuntu has never detected the proper aspect ratio for this monitor so I have always had to do some configuration with the xorg file to get it to work. Using bits and pieces of previous xorg files I finally came up with this --Start xorg.conf--- Section Monitor Identifier Monitor0 VendorName Monitor Vendor ModelNameMonitor Model Modeline 1440x900_60 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932 -HSync +Vsync EndSection Section Screen Identifier Screen0 Device Card0 MonitorMonitor0 SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes 1440x900_60.00 EndSubSection EndSection end xorg.conf-- This is the graphics chip: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) Getting the proper set up has not been an easy task. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 625239] Re: X starts on wrong tty: pressing enter after 5 minutes crashes X
** Description changed: - Binary package hint: xorg - After the system boots and the plymouth screen disappears and X starts - up, if I press the enter key (occurs only with the enter key) X shuts - down and starts again in around 2 seconds. In the session of X that - comes up after this, the problem doesn't occur. + After the system boots and the plymouth screen disappears and X starts up on tty1 or tty2, if I press the enter key in a few minutes X shuts down and starts again. In the session of X that comes up after this, the problem doesn't occur. - UPDATE: Problem seems to be affecting plymouth and is a lot similar to - bug #532047, however in this case GRAPHICAL plugin is affected. The - workaround on that bug works, and pressing enter crashes both X and - Plymouth, forcing X to start on tty8 . + The problem happens when gdm starts X and X crashes silently. gdm + restarts X but X starts on tty1(2) as getty hasn't yet started and it + isn't the first X start. When getty does start on tty1 it eventually + interferes with X by setting ISIG on the tty. - ProblemType: Bug - DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 - Package: xorg 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 - ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-19.26-generic 2.6.35.3 - Uname: Linux 2.6.35-19-generic i686 - Architecture: i386 - CheckboxSubmission: 5e476a0872a6160d4830741693075266 - CheckboxSystem: 1e11ce1f0b739629ea3e4cbfa4fff3ab - DRM.card0.LVDS.1: - status: connected - enabled: enabled - dpms: On - modes: 1280x800 1280x720 1152x768 1024x768 800x600 848x480 720x480 640x480 - edid-base64: AP///wBMozM2AAAPAQOAIRV4Cof1lFdPjCcnUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEB7hoAgFAgEDAQMBMAS88QAAAZDwAAACOHAmQC/gBTQU1TVU5HCiAgICAg/gBMVE4xNTRYMy1MMDYKAHA= - DRM.card0.VGA.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: On - modes: - edid-base64: - Date: Fri Aug 27 13:39:05 2010 - InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100429) - MachineType: TOSHIBA TECRA A7 - PccardctlIdent: - Socket 0: - no product info available - PccardctlStatus: - Socket 0: - no card - ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-19-generic root=UUID=ba586c06-64e7-4734-a35f-5320ea8063a4 ro quiet splash - ProcEnviron: - PATH=(custom, user) - LANG=en_US.utf8 - SHELL=/bin/bash - SourcePackage: xorg - dmi.bios.date: 08/30/2006 - dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD - dmi.bios.version: 2.00 - dmi.board.name: MPAD-MSAE Customer Reference Boards - dmi.board.vendor: Intel Corporation - dmi.board.version: Not Applicable - dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag - dmi.chassis.type: 1 - dmi.chassis.vendor: No Enclosure - dmi.chassis.version: N/A - dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologiesLTD:bvr2.00:bd08/30/2006:svnTOSHIBA:pnTECRAA7:pvrPTA71E-09401CAR:rvnIntelCorporation:rnMPAD-MSAECustomerReferenceBoards:rvrNotApplicable:cvnNoEnclosure:ct1:cvrN/A: - dmi.product.name: TECRA A7 - dmi.product.version: PTA71E-09401CAR - dmi.sys.vendor: TOSHIBA - glxinfo: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory - system: - distro: Ubuntu - codename: maverick - architecture: i686 - kernel: 2.6.35-19-generic + In the cases discussed here, the computer systems are very fast and gdm + is starting X before the nvidia kernel module is ready to run. + + NOTE WELL--the original reporter had the problem that his system was starting on tty7 and others were discussing tty1 starts here as well.
