The patch worked, but after I installed the patched fglrx, whenever I run glxgears to check if the driver's working, it keeps giving me a segmentation fault. Also, if I try to open up KInfoCenter (I'm using KDE), and when I hit the OpenGL section, it just crashes out. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text
I have not seen any instability issues with the new beta driver 260.19.06 in my maverick 64-bit setup. The sluggishness issue is completely gone and also gnome-shell works fluently now. Please pay attention to that Brandon Snider has uploaded this new beta driver (nvidia-current) in X Updates PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates It is built both against lucid and maverick. Note also that the X updates lucid build cannot be installed on maverick. The lucid package nvidia-current provides virtual package xserver-xorg-video-6, which would break mavericks xserver 1.9. The maverick package nvidia-current provides virtual package xserver-xorg-video-8, suitable for xserver 1.9. Note also, that this is the way it should be. -- nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629910 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

With the new generation it is possible to change between chips on the fly, the screen will flicker but no need to reboot. At least in Windows Vista (XP, Linux not supported) the user can switch freely between the chips or set up a profile to do so automatically (eg when on battery use low power chip and when plugged in use the more powerful chip). The graphic card hybrid not only works with two Nvidia or AMD cards but the low power Intel graphics solutions (mostly shard memory) can also be combined with 3d chips from AMD or Nvidia. This solution is ideal for users who want maximum battery life and be able to play current games. The most likely combination is Intel shard memory graphics card for battery life and some low to mid level 3d chip. This will not give great 3d performance but enable you to play some games. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 644943] [NEW] xterm fonts get corrupted while typing
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xterm Since I upgrade to maverick from lucid I have seen extremely annoying font corruption while typing which makes unpossible to read what I'm currently writing. It looks like some extra lines are drawn on top of the glyphs. But if I do SHIFT-PageUp and SHIFT-PageDown to refresh the screen, the corruption is gone and the text looks perfect again. I had to switch using gnome-terminal because of this bug. But I really would prefer using xterm. This problem doesn't seem to be computer nor settings specific. I have seen the problem with my two different maverick laptops, Samsung X120 and Dell E5410. Also I have seen it with pristine user settings. And both with default and finnish locale. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 644740] Re: [GM45] GPU Hang when enabling KDE desktop effects
You'll have to collect i915_error_state after the GPU has locked up - you should be able to switch VT and grab it from the console. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 640432] Re: X does not start (nouveau)
Your logs attached are from a boot with 2.6.32, so they're of limited debugging use. Could you manage to collect logs (with “apport-collect 640432”) from a boot with 2.6.35? You should hopefully be able to switch to a virtual terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2, F3, etc). Failing that, the full /var/log/Xorg.0.log (it'll probably be Xorg.0.log.old) from a boot with 2.6.35 and /var/log/kern.log would be useful. -- X does not start (nouveau) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/640432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645042] [NEW] Radeon HD5450 output via HDMI is slightly corrupted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati This issue can be observed when using Radeon HD 5450 connected via HDMI to Iiyama ProLite E2710HDS monitor. The monitor and the card both support three kinds of connectors D-SUB (VGA), DVI and HDMI. Picture over HDMI is corrupted when using the open source driver. The corruption is visible on the left edge of the screen. It seems like the entire display is shifted two pixels right. The two leftmost pixels on the screen (two columns) are violet. The rest of the screen (1920 - those 2 pixels) contains the entire image, but is slightly compressed to compensate for the loss of those two pixels. This causes readability issues for any displayed text and in general is annoying. The issue does not exist when using 10.04 (Lucid) and the proprietary driver. The issue does not exist when using the same monitor and card with DVI and D-SUB connector. I have prepared a photo of the issue. The screen background was set to black to make it more visible. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538648] Re: [Intel GM45] Irregular sync flashes on 8086:2a42 (Needs i915.powersave quirk)
** Description changed: + [Status] + Fixed in maverick + Not fixed in lucid (bug still seen on 2010-09-22 with kernel 2.6.32-25) + [Workaround 1] Install Andy Whitcroft's test kernel from http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp538648-lucid/ (see comment #88). [Workaround 2] As workaround add the option i915.powersave=0 to the kernel command line in the grub config (for GRUB 2: edit /etc/default/grub and add i915.powersave=0 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, then run sudo update-grub; for GRUB 1: edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add i915.powersave=0 to the end of the line beginning with # kopt=, then run sudo update-grub). [Report] Binary package hint: xserver-xorg When I first installed Lucid on my T500 I believe everything seemd to be fine with the display. Recently though the screen has started giving flashes -- as though there was some form of sync problem for the display. The flashes are of irregular frequency and occurrence. I haven't yet seen any pattern to the behaviour. They are however exceptionally annoying. I believe I am using the Intel chipset graphics device -- I am not actually aware of how to switch to using the alternate graphics hardware, but I am told it is not worth bothering with, so I haven't. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 538648] Re: [Intel GM45] Irregular sync flashes on 8086:2a42 (Needs i915.powersave quirk)
** Description changed: [Status] Fixed in maverick Not fixed in lucid (bug still seen on 2010-09-22 with kernel 2.6.32-25) - [Workaround 1] - Install Andy Whitcroft's test kernel from http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp538648-lucid/ (see comment #88). + [Workaround] + As workaround add the option i915.powersave=0 to the kernel command line in the grub config (for GRUB 2: edit /etc/default/grub and add i915.powersave=0 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, then run sudo update-grub; for GRUB 1: edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add i915.powersave=0 to the end of the line beginning with # kopt=, then run sudo update-grub). - [Workaround 2] - As workaround add the option i915.powersave=0 to the kernel command line in the grub config (for GRUB 2: edit /etc/default/grub and add i915.powersave=0 to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX, then run sudo update-grub; for GRUB 1: edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add i915.powersave=0 to the end of the line beginning with # kopt=, then run sudo update-grub). + [Alternative workaround for experts] + Compile your kernel with Andy Whitcroft's patch from http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp538648-lucid/ (see comment #88). I am using the Compiz window manager so I guess the problem could be there rather than with Xorg. There is no xorg.conf file so there is no overide of the default behaviour. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 644359] Re: Dual head problem - can't use both monitors fully
For clarity I should probably have stated in the text that this is an issue on 10.10 Beta, though this can be seen from the diagnostics. Following further tests I can now confirm that this appears to be an issue with the total width of the virtual display being too large (possibly 2048?). All is well if I have resolutions of 1024x768 on both displays or 800x600 and 1024x768. The problem appears if I try 1280x800 and 1024x768 for example. I have Visual Effects set to None, though setting to Normal seems to have no effect on the issue. -- Dual head problem - can't use both monitors fully https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/644359 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 609938] Re: fglrx fails build on 2.6.35-10-generic
hi, thanks for the response. it appears that i am already using radeon (lsmod gives me some references to radeon), but i don't find compiz to be working all that well. i don't know if there are some tweaks i should use or some kind of tuning i can do. in the past it's worked much better. maybe i will have to wait until 10.10 is officially released as it seems that performance and functionality changes everytime i update (every few days)... let me know if you have any ideas. thanks again dan Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2010 03:13:17 + From: 609...@bugs.launchpad.net To: dankinzel...@hotmail.com Subject: [Bug 609938] Re: fglrx fails build on 2.6.35-10-generic Initially my system was unusable, but I have removed fglrx for now and enabled radeon by modifying my xorg.conf (previously created by the amdccle tool) Driver radeon in my xorg.conf where it used to say fglrx.. performance seems surprisingly good with compiz, etc. Its a good workaround for now that enables gnome whilst we wait for fglrx to catch up again -- fglrx fails build on 2.6.35-10-generic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/609938 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of a duplicate bug (642674).
