2010-09-27 Thread Tormod Volden
I would bet on the gnome-settings-dameon. The three log files could
probably confirm that and help to see what is going wrong. Try also to
downgrade this package if possible, or even upgrade it on a live CD
session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 515498] Re: lucid lynx xorg resume from suspend colored blocks nonresponsive

2010-09-27 Thread Martin Magnusson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 488720 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/488720

Is this really a duplicate of bug #488720? In this case, a bunch of
coloured blocks appear when resuming, but with #488720, the screen stays
black.

I am also affected by this. Usually, the blocks appear for a while when
I resume, but bootup proceeds normally otherwise, and real graphics show
up after a little while. Today, though, the same problem reported here
appeared. The blocks stayed and the system was unresponsive (even to
RSEIUB) and had to be rebooted.

Upon reboot, a crash report from java was in my home directory. I'll
attach it to this post.

** Description changed:

Sometimes CTRL key becomes logically stuck.
When I try to call Run application dialog by pressing ALT+F2 or to close
app by pressing ALT+F4, system switches me to the console terminal tty2 (or
tty4), in the same way if I would have pressed CTRL+ALT+F2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 640214] Re: X failed on Intel B43 machine

2010-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-intel -
2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5

xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5) maverick; urgency=low

  [ Robert Hooker ]
  * Disable DRI on Sandybridge chipsets. Support for them will not be released
until the Q42010 Intel releases, which will not be pulled into maverick.
Without this change, all 3D apps on these devices cause hangs.
(LP: #639667)
  * Add 102_b43_pciid_update.patch. Fixes detection of a new b43
chipset revision that is being shipped. Without this the drivers
will not attempt to load even though this chipset is the same as
the previous b43 ones. Backport of upstream commit 55b5fe8880.

  * debian/patches/101_copy-fb.patch: Move scratch pixmap creation to the
drmmode_copy_fb function, and clean up after we've used it. Fixes the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648631] [NEW] Intel graphics drivers not working on new kernels on Maverick?

2010-09-27 Thread Lauri Siltala
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Basically, on Maverick, X fails to start properly for me on newer
kernels. Kernels up to 2.6.35-15 work just fine, but the later ones
don't. While booting, I get into a terminal login. If I run startx from
there, it complains that it couldn't load the screen properly and offers
low graphics mode.

Driver version: 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu4

dmesg log from kernel 2.6.35-17 (one of the not working ones):
http://pastebin.com/9JNcNAN1
Xorg.log: http://pastebin.com/2XHxX45P

Note that these logs have drivers Xorg from the xorg-edgers ppa. Removing it
with ppa-purge doesn't change the situation in any way though.
Also, my GPU is Intel HD Graphics, lspci | grep VGA output being:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 02)

It's my first time reporting a bug, I hope I didn't miss anything
important! I already made a thread on the maverick forums about this,
where I was advised to report a bug.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648671] [NEW] Touchpad on Thinkpad T400s doesn't support two-finger scroll

The touchpad on my laptop (a thinkpad T400s) supports recognising more

scrolling option, not the two-finger scrolling option.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645124] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2010-09-27 Thread Kevin Hare
I reinstalled patch, which was one of the problems when installing it
first time. (It tried to call patch but it wasn't installed), then
reinstalled fglrx, which went through without problems according to the
installer. That being said, it still doesn't work right, and I've found my
self using the a pre-lynx kernel to avoid the UI freezing (mouse doesn't
move, keyboard won't respond). Admittedly this problem might not be fglrx
related, but something completely different.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 563100] Re: Mouse movement corrupted with Xinerama enabled

2010-09-27 Thread tgates81
There is an additional patch upstream:
http://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=33939
Without it I still get random cursor freezes on ANY video card trying to use
Xinerama. I've tested this on 10 or so machines in my company and this weekend
I've applied it to all 150 which use a mix of nvidia twinview, matrox xinerama,
and various single head displays. I will report back in a few days on stability
but I'm pretty sure its good to go.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648868] [NEW] major 965GM 2D/3D performance regression in the last week in meerkat

2010-09-27 Thread Mike Gratton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After restarting this machine over the weekend after about a week of
updates, 2D/3D performance has reverted to Lucid levels: video playback
and switching desktops is sluggish and Civ4 under Wine is unplayable
again.

I've tried reverting to older versions of xserver-xorg-video-intel and
linux-generic, with no improvement. libdrm2 doesn't seem to have changed
in any significant way in the last week, so I'm not sure what else to do
from here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645377] Re: [M7 LW] [RV250] resolution incorrectly detected on various radeon cards

2010-09-27 Thread dpg77
also affect my ibm t42 with max res 1024x768 on ATI Technologies Inc
Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]

this is not an issue with beta cdimage fresh install only after doing
dist-upgrade it is affected

workaround i have been using at the gdm login screen pressing the fn f7
screen gets it to re-detect the screen resolution to 1024x768 and you
can log in then. then desktop is ok after that

It looks like mutter is segfaulting on startup, can you try running
mutter --replace ~/muttercrash.txt 21
from a terminal and attach ~/muttercrash.txt to this bug so we can see what is
going on?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 648868] Re: major 965GM 2D/3D performance regression in the last week in meerkat

2010-09-27 Thread Mike Gratton
The regression was actually caused by mesa 7.9~git20100909 - reverting
to 7.8.2-2ubuntu2 solved the 2D perf issues - I now get video playback
fine. Reverting ia32-libs to the version generated before
7.9~git20100909 solved the Wine 3D performance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 646860] [NEW] Touch-pad crazy with Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Aspire 8530

2010-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: nspluginwrapper

Few days ago I did a fresh install of 10.04 on my laptop Aspire 8530 and I
experienced similar problems occurred with Ubuntu 9.10, while using the
touch-pad.
As a matter of fact my touch-pad is frequently, not always, jumping around like
crazy, opening windows, applications ... and it.s very hard to work in such a
situation.
I checked for a fix on the web and I found that a strange behaviour of a
mouse/touch-pad crazy with OS Ubuntu has been reported several times, but none
could find a good solution.
The very strange thing to me is that the anomalous behaviour does not occur
always, it's a random phenomenon and I started thinking of a capricious
computer (with a soul?).
For example yesterday my touch-pad worked fine, but not now and I can't replay
the situation on request.
My laptop Acer Aspire 8530G has windows 7 installed by factory and Ubuntu 10.04
in a separated partition. I would like to use Ubuntu always and for this it is
essential to fix this bug.

Claudio :-))

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 617248] Re: [IGDgm] GPU lockup 252f90a9 (PGTBL_ER: 0x00000003)

2010-09-27 Thread Blaster
Same here. Seems kind of related to the yet unaddressed failure to
resume from suspend. I'm pretty sure all this misery is caused by xorg
now. Current status of 10.10 and 10.04 in my book: Doesn't support 30-40
percent of all laptops. I'm not in a position to help out here, but I
wish I could. This is crippling Ubuntu.
