[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 612312] Re: System Freeze at Startup on Eee Pc 1001HA
Joshua, if you think it may have something to do with the RT3090 driver from Marcus, try uninstalling it and instead use the rt3090 staging driver built in to the Lucid kernel. You'll need to run a command first to create an empty missing config file -- see comments near the top of bug #541620. -- System Freeze at Startup on Eee Pc 1001HA https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/612312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic
Hi Frank, As I mentioned, I have no problem getting a 1024x600 resolution with a custom xorg.conf (which I have supplied previously, it's in the attachments section). I believe we are trying to see whether it is possible to have this ratio available by default (without an xorg.conf file). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441653] Re: radeon graphics mode and console does not start - xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call
I have just installed the new linux-image-2.6.32-25 from Ubuntu repositories, and faced this problem too. The booting stops just before KDM screen should appear after the KUbuntu logo Xorg.0.log contained the same lines: Fatal server error: xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call I could not boot my computer three times concequently, including the failsafeX mode. I could load it only without any graphical login manager, and used this opportunity to reinstall back 2.6.32-24 kernel. However, after that the 2.6.32-25 kernel is booting normally. Not sure how this could be reproduced again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650946] [NEW] Random keyboard layout switches
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have the following happening on two machines with 10.10: Keyboard layout starts to switch randomly between configured layouts (US, RU default). I can see that by watching layout indicator. Happens event inside 'screen locked' window, so I can't login back to system. Layout swtich happens approx. 10 times per second, which renders keyboard completely useless. The speed of switches raises by itself, so it looks like first switch triggers another, and another triggers next one, all at rising velocity. I've done a few extra reboots after this, KDM is now always starting. However, the KUbuntu logo with five dots, which is shown before that, was corrupted on each boot. The colors were quite strange in some regions and the letters KUbuntu are surrounded by many dense green dots. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650985] [NEW] Refresh rate incorrect and not remembered
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Since upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 upon booting the graphical login screen (gdm?) appears with a resolution of 1920x1440 and a refresh rate of 60Hz. This is very much less than ideal as there is considerable screen flicker at 60Hz - this is a CRT not a TFT display. When I log in I can choose the Monitor tool to change the settings but this then refers me to the nvidia-settings application which will let me change the refresh rate. As well as 60Hz I can choose 75Hz or Auto. Either of 75Hz and Auto result in a refresh rate of 75Hz which is much more usable. The nvidia-settings application also offers to write this back to the xorg.conf file which I chose to do, entering the password as necessary and I can see a new xorg.conf file has been created. Upon logging out however the login screen still works at 60Hz and upon logging in again my own session is also back to 60Hz. Restoring the xorg.conf.dist-upgrade-201009282228 which I assume is a copy of the xorg.conf file immediately prior to the upgrade does not solve the problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616023] Re: nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found
I believe the fix discussed above (256.53, released: 2010.08.31) only provides a solution for only some of the users. Although it added support for xorg-server video driver ABI version 8 / xorg-server-1.9, the driver does not support legacy cards such as the Geforce 5 FX series. The currently recommended driver for Geforce 5 FX is currently 173.14.27. The problem is that 173.14.27 is intended for use with X.Org xserver 1.8 and Maverick comes with xserver 1.9. A workaround that appears to work (for me) is item two listed at the top of this discussion: 2) downgrade xorg-xserver to 1.8.2 (the maverick older version or even xorg-edgers lucid version) A good instruction for implementing this workaround is outlined here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9875191 which downgrades xserver-xorg to the ones in Lucid. Not sure about the medium-term implications of the workaround however. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu Maverick) Status: Fix Released = Incomplete -- nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/616023 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651153] [NEW] Compiz functions deactivate by themselves
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have Compiz activated, using the Desktop Cube, with Rotate Cube and 3D walls activated. Then, I open a .doc document with Openoffice Writer. The document contains endnotes. When I hover with the cursor over the number of the footnote (in the main text), I can see the text of the endnote in a sort of balloon, as expected. Then, however, the desktop environment disappears momentarily leaving only the wallpaper visible. When it reappears, the Cube has been deactivated and the Desktop wall has replaced it. I then have to reactivate them. It seems like a bug, but since I have no clue as to what it concerns, I haven't yet filed a bug report at launchpad. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651561] [NEW] Top row of buttons for windows disappears after a short time of use
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I am using the 2.6.34-020634rc6-generic kernel in order to get an old CRT monitor to work, The monitor works fine with this kernel version, but after a few minutes to maybe half an hour, the buttons at the top of *most* of the windows (Maximize, Minimize, Close, etc) disappear. In fact, that top section of the window that contains those buttons disappears. The only program that doesn't seem to suffer from this problem is the Chromium Browser.
