[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 612312] Re: System Freeze at Startup on Eee Pc 1001HA

2010-09-29 Thread Gary M
Joshua, if you think it may have something to do with the RT3090 driver
from Marcus, try uninstalling it and instead use the rt3090 staging
driver built in to the Lucid kernel. You'll need to run a command first
to create an empty missing config file -- see comments near the top of
bug #541620.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 433142] Re: geode driver do not display 1024x600 on (K)UNR Karmic

2010-09-29 Thread phpmonkey
Hi Frank,

As I mentioned, I have no problem getting a 1024x600 resolution with a
custom xorg.conf (which I have supplied previously, it's in the
attachments section).

I believe we are trying to see whether it is possible to have this ratio
available by default (without an xorg.conf file).

Cheers,
Jenny (phpmonkey)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650526] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup 488c32be

2010-09-29 Thread michael o'sullivan
I've found adding a line to xorg.conf to set a virtual desktop space to
encompass a 1024x768 and 1440x900 monitor in an effort to cope with bug
#635827 prevents the xserver from starting. If you comment out lines
beginning with Virtual in the Display subsections, will X start for
you? (though this will not give you continuous dual monitors)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373367] Re: Pointer goes offscreen on non-rectangular dual-head

2010-09-29 Thread nZain
Either way its not related to the bug - this is about the mouse diving
offscreen. Furthermore, personally I have compiz deactivated, because on
my laptop I want to save a bit of energy and the onboard graphics is 2D
only. This bug should be adressed at a deeper level.

Shouldn't this bug be assigned to someone or reported upstream?

Also, at the top of the bug it says: Declined for Maverick by
Sebastien Bacher but Peter Bell has observed the bug.

I still have X crashing once a day because of this bug and am forced to
reboot because X won't start again. It's like being with an old Windows
box again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441653] Re: radeon graphics mode and console does not start - xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call

2010-09-29 Thread Roman
I have just installed the new linux-image-2.6.32-25 from Ubuntu repositories,
and faced this problem too.
The booting stops just before KDM screen should appear after the KUbuntu logo

Xorg.0.log contained the same lines:

Fatal server error:
xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call

I could not boot my computer three times concequently, including the
failsafeX mode. I could load it only without any graphical login
manager, and used this opportunity to reinstall back 2.6.32-24 kernel.
However, after that the 2.6.32-25 kernel is booting normally. Not sure
how this could be reproduced again.

I've never seen such things with earlier kernels.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650946] [NEW] Random keyboard layout switches

2010-09-29 Thread john.pan...@gmail.com
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have the following happening on two machines with 10.10:

Keyboard layout starts to switch randomly between configured layouts (US, RU
default). I can see that by watching layout indicator.
Happens event inside 'screen locked' window, so I can't login back to system.
Layout swtich happens approx. 10 times per second, which renders keyboard
completely useless.
The speed of switches raises by itself, so it looks like first switch triggers
another, and another triggers next one, all at rising velocity.

X.Org 1:7.5+6

Please note you need any further info, package information, etc.

2010-09-29 Thread frank huang
Jenny,

   Thanks for your reply.
Please try my patch attached with lastest driver from freedesktop.
Delete the xorg.conf and give a try to see if you can get 1024x600 by
default. If that can work for you, I will explain the patch intention. I have
validated this patch alreandy on my Notebook(LX 800), it works fine!

Thanks,
Frank

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 441653] Re: radeon graphics mode and console does not start - xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call

2010-09-29 Thread Roman
I've done a few extra reboots after this, KDM is now always starting.
However, the KUbuntu logo with five dots, which is shown before that,
was corrupted on each boot. The colors were quite strange in some
regions and the letters KUbuntu are surrounded by many dense green
dots. Not sure whether it is related to this bug, but it suspicious that
it started to happen with the same linux kernel. I've never seen such
things before.

BTW, I use KUbuntu 10.04 and intel video card (i915 driver)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650985] [NEW] Refresh rate incorrect and not remembered

2010-09-29 Thread Steve Fosdick
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 upon booting the graphical login screen
(gdm?) appears with a resolution of 1920x1440 and a refresh rate of
60Hz. This is very much less than ideal as there is considerable screen
flicker at 60Hz - this is a CRT not a TFT display.

When I log in I can choose the Monitor tool to change the settings but
this then refers me to the nvidia-settings application which will let me
change the refresh rate. As well as 60Hz I can choose 75Hz or Auto.
Either of 75Hz and Auto result in a refresh rate of 75Hz which is much
more usable.

The nvidia-settings application also offers to write this back to the
xorg.conf file which I chose to do, entering the password as necessary
and I can see a new xorg.conf file has been created. Upon logging out
however the login screen still works at 60Hz and upon logging in again
my own session is also back to 60Hz.

Restoring the xorg.conf.dist-upgrade-201009282228 which I assume is a
copy of the xorg.conf file immediately prior to the upgrade does not
solve the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 616023] Re: nVidia card : X won't start since 1.9 update, no screens found

2010-09-29 Thread Ryu Ito

I believe the fix discussed above (256.53, released: 2010.08.31) only provides
a solution for only some of the users. Although it added support for
xorg-server video driver ABI version 8 / xorg-server-1.9, the driver does not
support legacy cards such as the Geforce 5 FX series.

The currently recommended driver for Geforce 5 FX is currently
173.14.27. The problem is that 173.14.27 is intended for use with X.Org
xserver 1.8 and Maverick comes with xserver 1.9.

A workaround that appears to work (for me) is item two listed at the top of
this discussion:
   2) downgrade xorg-xserver to 1.8.2 (the maverick older version or even
xorg-edgers lucid version)
A good instruction for implementing this workaround is outlined here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9875191 which downgrades xserver-xorg
to the ones in Lucid.

Not sure about the medium-term implications of the workaround however.

I followed JH's suggestion to use the x-swat repository, and I haven't
had a problem since. It was a good work around for me, and I plan to
continue with it until we get an official patch.

i tried the switch between console and x and it seems indeed to fix the

hva recommended) solved it for me. Did you try that?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651153] [NEW] Compiz functions deactivate by themselves

2010-09-29 Thread thanasis57
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I have Compiz activated, using the Desktop Cube, with Rotate Cube and
3D walls activated.

Then, I open a .doc document with Openoffice Writer. The document
contains endnotes. When I hover with the cursor over the number of the
footnote (in the main text), I can see the text of the endnote in a sort
of balloon, as expected. Then, however, the desktop environment
disappears momentarily leaving only the wallpaper visible. When it
reappears, the Cube has been deactivated and the Desktop wall has
replaced it. I then have to reactivate them.

It seems like a bug, but since I have no clue as to what it concerns, I
haven't yet filed a bug report at launchpad.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373669] Re: [RV620] No power management with ati driver

2010-09-29 Thread Maartenschouten89
I have the same problem with my Acer Aspire 5542 Ubuntu 10.10. The same
problem with the open source driver as fglrx. I tried dynpm and various
other profiles in /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method
/sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile but it keeps happening.

The worst part is that I keep losing data after restarting!

I've been seeing these issues for the past couple days most frequently
on my laptop. I've been restarting the x-server to get the cursor back.
Same symptoms; tracks but there is no pointer. Mine comes back though..
I also lost the cursor on my desktop today for the first time and was
also able to recover it via an X restart.

 Bug description:
 SRU Justification:

Impact: Due to kernel changes for CVE-2010-3081 a function that was an
inline before has changed to a GPL only function. The fglrx driver cannot
link against this and fails to compile. In fglrx only the old inlines (which
have been renamed) may be used but those would lack the additional checks.

Fix: Add code to detect whether the fglrx driver is compiled against a
kernel which has this change and use the old inlines in this case. Add the
additional checks from the CVE to the driver wrapper, so the hardening is
 done in any case.

Testcase: Compile of 64bit fglrx driver fails with an error without this
 change.

LABEL=xorg_aiptek_end
was changed to

Also crashed in a live session on the same box (Dell Mini 10v), so it's
not a local configuration issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 553415] Re: mouse trapped in box for Open Motif

2010-09-29 Thread Chris Carlin
Any news on the Lucid SRU? Is Timo watching this bug?

There is a class of users who are completely sunk by this bug. If
backporting 1.7.7 is going to take a while, I'd suggest just putting
this fix through now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 298707] Re: wacom tablet stylus input jumps to next screen prematurely in dual monitor set-up

2010-09-29 Thread Captain Chaos
I'm running Lucid now, and it's still not working, so I guess the bug
still exists in xf86-input-wacom.

Behaviour exactly the same: cursor spread out over left one third of
left screen, middle one third of middle screen and right one third of
right screen. Making the tablet completely unusable.

How can I help in tracking this problem down?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636903] Re: External display through display port not working

2010-09-29 Thread komputes
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Can
you please provide the output of the following command:

$ lspci -nnk | grep -A2 VGA

It should say that the video card is using nvidia (closed source,
proprietary binary) and not nouveau (free open source). Most advanced
features (such as display port) do not work properly under noueau
driver. To install the nvidia driver simply go to System
Administration Hardware Drivers and enables the proposed/suggested
driver for your video card.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 630530] Re: [i945GML] Fails to work at all with Kwin compositing in Maverick

2010-09-29 Thread luca
upgraded one hour ago: still not working opengl, need to switch on
xrender. No blur effect, no aladdin lamp, and so on. kubuntu maverick
i386, intel i915. Same system with ubuntu 10.04 and compiz works
flawlessly.

2010-09-29 Thread Josh Welsh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I am using the 2.6.34-020634rc6-generic kernel in order to get an old
CRT monitor to work, The monitor works fine with this kernel version,
