[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)
System/hardware: 10.04 (lucid) 2.6.32-25-generic 1024x768 $ lspci|grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03) This reproduces the problem consistently (gnome-screensaver is installed): System|Preferences|Screensaver. By default, AntSpotlight is selected. After a couple of seconds the screen goes blank, sometimes with vertical zebra stripes. syslog contains: Oct 2 12:26:41 ubuntu-desktop kernel: [ 5531.425838] [drm:i915_gem_entervt_ioctl] *ERROR* Reenabling wedged hardware, good luck Oct 2 12:26:41 ubuntu-desktop kernel: [ 5531.740027] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung Oct 2 12:26:41 ubuntu-desktop kernel: [ 5531.740038] render error detected, EIR: 0x Oct 2 12:26:41 ubuntu-desktop kernel: [ 5531.740880] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns -5 (awaiting 4120 at 1135) Oct 2 12:26:43 ubuntu-desktop kernel: [ 5533.792017] [drm:i915_gem_idle] *ERROR* hardware wedged So after a reboot (pressing the power button seems to more-or-less cleanly shutdown), at GRUB, I've pressed 'e' to edit and after quiet splash I've added i915.modetest=1 (no quotes). After that, I can go to the screen saver preferences and there is no black screen/crash. Screensaver comes in after the specified time and works, probably slowly, though. However, I then realised that modetest should have been modeset. So, not surprisingly, syslog reports: kernel: [ 18.768163] i915: Unknown parameter `modetest' If I use modeset=0, or modeset=1, then the blanking/crash still happens when I go to the screensaver preferences. So, modetest=0 or modetest=1 (either one avoids the blanking) is doing *something*. But what, and why? Anyway, I'm happy to live with this until the official release of Maverick, which hopefully will solve things. -- MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This is another example of gnome-settings-daemon trying to be smarter than the X server, see bug 640807. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 641525] Re: Screen with 4:3 ratio incorrectly detected as having 16:9 ratio
This is related to bug 640807, which explains why it showed up a few days ago. Also, the DRM.card0.LVDS.1 modes list in the apport-collected summary does not list the faulty 1360x768 mode, but it shows up in the xrandr output. I suspected g-s-d for this in another report, but since the mode can be seen listed in Xorg.0.log in early initialization this must be an xorg bug. g-s-d will be fixed so it does not overrule the X server mode selection, so the reported problem will go away. However the bug in xorg which generates the faulty mode should also be fixed to avoid other problems. -- Screen with 4:3 ratio incorrectly detected as having 16:9 ratio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/641525 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 580225] Re: [gm45] Backlight sometimes stays off after resume on Lenovo X200
I have the same bug on a HP TouchSmart tm2, with the added bonus that the backlight problems also happen at startup every now and then. The easiest way I have found to trigger this situation is to set brightness to 0 on a terminal (as root) echo 0 /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness Any other brightness set in this way is applied correctly. However, after setting 0, the backlight never comes back on. A workaround I use is to change screen orientation. For some reason, the command xrandr -o right (followed by xrandr -o normal to get it back to normal) changes so many things in the display settings that the backlight comes back on. I have now assigned hotkeys to these commands, so that I can log in blindly, then press the hotkeys, and have a working backlight. I should also note that this problem does not occur after switching to ATI graphics with the vga_switcheroo kernel module. -- [gm45] Backlight sometimes stays off after resume on Lenovo X200 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/580225 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595838] [NEW] Lucid - 'no signal' message occasionally on boot
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Using Lucid Lynx, i occasionally get the 'no signal' message on my monitor during boot. it had only happened a few times in six weeks but has now happened three times in the last few days. I have Lucid set to log in automatically, if that is of use to bug testers. This problem doesn't happen (that I know of) in Windows 7 or PCLOS 2010 on the same machine, using identical internal drives, so it doesn't seem to be hardware related. I never have a problem with Lucid once I have booted. No crashes at all. Its just during the boot process. When this problem occurs, I can see the BIOS screen no problem, then as it goes to boot into Lucid the screen says 'no signal' then my green light on the monitor goes orange. Pressing ctrl-alt-F1 seems to shut everything down fine then it boots fine the next time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 637880] [NEW] ATI Radeon 5770 Very Poorly Supported
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I've tried to run an ATI Radeon 5770 based video card on my x64 10.04 box (up to date as of Sept 14). I've even tried using the 10.8 Catalyst (was released a few weeks back.. ~late Aug 2010). Thus far the very best performance I can get is what I'd get using the vesa X11 driver (only I was explicitly using fglrx). I gave the x64 10.10 beta a whirl, but didn't even get anything coming up on my display. I'm aware I could probably feed in some command-line option on boot and set up on ghetto-graphics. I didn't bother with that. I've also tried running this card in parallel with a Radeon HD 2600. When doing that, the ATI Catalyist Center reports the 5770 as an Unknown Device... sarcasm Awesome /sarcasm I'm concerned in that the 5770 is growing in popularity (for example it's now common place in a few lines of Apple machines). I've observed some forums threads with some fairly old discussion on this issue. Perhaps a 'solution' could entail outright declaring that it's an unsupported card until further notice. If that's opted for, there should be a hook or something in grub2 that displays a warning message to users... As that's a lot more graceful than a completely blank screen. I can only hope my take on this whole situation is incorrect, but sadly, I've spent many hours on this. I think the 5770 stands to make 10.10 not look so great. Hopefully it's an isolated case? Thanks gang, keep up the awesome work! 3 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: 5770 ati radeon xorg -- ATI Radeon 5770 Very Poorly Supported https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/637880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 646860] Re: Touch-pad crazy with Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Aspire 8530
This morning my touch-pad seemed to work fine, but now it's giving problems. However, a couple of hours ago I encountered difficulties with jumping cursor while writing an e-mail. Such a problem occurs very often (perhaps always) in Ubuntu environment. Until now I have not reported this strange behaviour since I was considering it as a minor problem compared to the opening of unwanted windows and applications, but now I suspect that they are different aspects of the same bug. So I recorded the attached movie to show what happens when I try to write an e-mail (or a text in a web page). In the example attached I was writing the word: impegno and the cursor jumped at a line below when I was just hinting the key: o. Such a behaviour occurs several times during the editing of my e-mail and it was very frustrating. As a matter of fact, if I am not watching out the screen and so I do not realize to be writing in a wrong place, I cannot correct promptly my text which soon becomes unusable. For your information, I tried to write the draft of this message with Gedit to test if the problem occurs as well and I experienced no difficulties on writing. I asked to myself: Does the bug comes out only when a browser is involved? So I closed the Browser and suddenly I verified that pointer of the touch-pad was crazy (jumping around and opening unwanted windows and applications) so I had the impression that the bug is independent from the use of a internet connection. It should be considered that the difficulty on writing e text, together with the problem of crazy touch-pad has been the main reason to prefer Windows system to Ubuntu. I hope that the bug be fixed to prefer Ubuntu soon. ** Attachment added: Bug646860.avi https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/646860/+attachment/1666555/+files/Bug646860.avi -- Touch-pad crazy with Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Aspire 8530 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/646860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651793] [NEW] native vga=0x120 on cmdline does not work on Intel chips that do not support standard VESA modes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This seems essentially a continuation of or closely related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/150797 In Lucid when I try vga=0x120 on cmdline I do not get the Intel legacy native 132 column by 25 row mode. A message flashes on screen and disappears too quickly to read, and nothing that looks similar is to be found anywhere in /var/log. Googling I've seen references to gfxpayload, but these all seem to imply framebuffer ever worked. Framebuffer never has worked on any i810 video chip I've used. None of the gfxpayload examples I've tried on Lucid work. So, I'm stuck in 80x30 consoles using Lucid, while openSUSE 11.3 (later released) on the same machine gives me the same functional 120X25 consoles I've been using for over a decade. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- native vga=0x120 on cmdline does not work on Intel chips that do not support standard VESA modes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/651793 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 653714] [NEW] X display shows garbage w/ nouveau Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP rev a1 (NV28)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau I have a Dell D800 laptop with high resolution screen (1920x1200) that was working fine with Ubuntu 10.04. I performed a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 which appears to use the nouveau driver. The screen now displays garbage, more pronounced on icons, where text seems to render fairly well. I've attached a picture of the screen to illustrate. While I've tried to intall the Nvidia drivers, this problem manifested from the initial install of the 10.10 alternate RC disc, and remains present with all packages updated as of 10/1 where no alternate driver install was attempted. Please let me know what information I might be able to provide that would be useful in fixing this problem. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 630580] Re: [82G965] No compositing with kwin (and doesn't work well if enabled)
I have an IBM Thinkpad R52 with Intel 915GM/GMS/910 GML Express Graphics. It just works like a dream of dubai with Kubuntu 10.04.Now with 10.10 i have the Desktop effects on but it only works with direct rendering not without anymore. My kwin has strange lines everywhere arround when i move my windows. I use low graphics for my windows (dont see windows when resizing, moving etc.). One time i startet Konqueror and kwin and plasma just crashed...i think the intel driver needs fixes!!! I love my Kubuntu IBM:) i dont want miss it -- [82G965] No compositing with kwin (and doesn't work well if enabled) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/630580 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
