[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2010-10-26 Thread Azamat S. Kalimoulline
Using patched xorg from Oded ppa fixes my problem. Keboard layout
changes on release and works like a charm. No side-effects affects to
me. When this patch will be included in official source tree and when it
will be available in repositories?

I do think, probably because I am a victim of this bug that the status
should be critical. We are speaking of a complete freeze of the desktop

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661639] Re: Ubuntu freezes to death in random intervals

2010-10-26 Thread Dariusz Dwornikowski
A small update. I disabled DRI and GLX and seems that is freezes only
2-3 times a day now. I have and impression too (it is only an
impression) that freezes take place when there are disk writes. For
example ubuntu freezes often when transmission is running or a USB disk
is written to.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 631060] Re: graphical interface with slow reaction

2010-10-26 Thread Martin Wildam
I had the same effect again after a longer while.
What I notice is that for a longer time I did not use the suspend feature. This
time I did. My workflow was about this:
1. Worked with Thunderbird, Firefox, Skype, Shutter, Keepassx, Dropbox and
others
2. Put the laptop (Dell Latitude E-5500) to suspend.
3. Wake-up after a few hours.
4. Did several emails, browsing - everything still fine, starting NetBeans was
my last action, as far as I remember.
5. Went away, screen got saver activate after a few minutes
6. When I returned, logging in already was slow.

I opened a terminal (which took a while) and run xrandr - everything
fine again.

I attach my suspend logfile for the case it might help.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers

2010-10-26 Thread Delyan Kalchev
Yes, when the display turns off sometimes it cannot be turned back on.
Instead of restarting I do something like: Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then back
Alt+F7 (or wherever your X is). That turns the display back on when
it's stuck. This is surely a bug and it appeared with older versions
of the Nvidia driver. Now it's back on the stage if it had ever been
fixed at all.

On Tue, Oct 26, 2010 at 4:44 AM, Jon Packard jonpack...@gmail.com wrote:
I just did a fresh install of Maverick 64-bit on my HP EliteBook 8440p
with NVS 3100m graphics. I still had to use nomodeset to install and
to boot thereafter, but that's not an issue. After installing the nVidia
proprietary drivers, I found that whenever my notebook tries to power
its screen off, it gets stuck as black and has to be restarted to fix.
The computer is still responsive, since I can ctrl-alt-del, enter, tab,
enter to poweroff. I have tried adding the [Option  RegistryDwords
EnableBrightnessControl=1] line to the device section of my xorg.conf
and rebooting, just as I did in Lucid. Unlike in Lucid, this did not
resolve my issue. My nvidia driver version is 260.19.06-0ubuntu1. Could
anyone please suggest any workarounds I could try? I can suspend just
fine, but I often like to shut my screen and let my notebook continue
 working. Thank you in advance.

Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed

 Bug description:
The brightness controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS 3100M or Quadro FX 880M
GPUs work  while running Nouveau or when using a text mode VT, but not while
running X and using proprietary NVIDIA drivers.  It is possible to force the
NVIDIA driver to control the backlight by adding [Option RegistryDwords
EnableBrightnessControl=1] to the Devices section of xorg.conf . While
this allows the backlight to be controlled, the increments are inconsistent
and often result in a buzzing noise from the LED backlight on Lenovo ThinkPad
T510s and W510s. Since this did not occur while running nouveau or when
switching in text VT, something is wrong.

This bad backlight behaviour has been confirmed on ThinkPad models T510 and
W510 with NVIDIA NVS 3100m and Quadro FX 880M chipsets, respectively, via

Touchpad detection now works correctly since upgrading to 10.10 and was
working perfectly with one of the earlier 10.10 kernels. However since
upgrading to 2.6.35-22-generic, multi-touch scrolling is very erratic,
and will suddenly jump up or down over a large chunk of the document
mid-scrolling.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 666730] [NEW] problem with xorg:fglrx: Freeze on tty1 command line at startup. Xorg launch only many minutes after. Can not restart or shutdown.

2010-10-26 Thread Mathieu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

System:
Ubuntu x386 10.10
linux: 2.6.35-22-generic-pae
4Go DDR2
Graphic card: Asus Ati Radeon HD5750

codeapt-cache policy xorg

 *** 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 0

When xorg:fglrx is activated, x server dosn't start. It freezes at tty1
command line during 5 minutes. And after x server boot and everything
seems normal.

Shuting down and restarting is impossible. It freezes straight after
ubuntu logo. The keyboard dosn't respond anymore. I got to force power
off my computer :/

This problem didn't appear on Ubuntu 10.04.1
When I deactivate xorg:fglrx, everything went to normal. No more bug. So it
looks like Maverick+ati drivers made the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650539] Re: Launching QT apps under Xinerama crashes Xorg : affects SpeedCrunch, KeePassX, Lucky Backup, Pencil, Stellarium, Skype, Google Earth, VLC, Konqueror, VirtualBox, Opera

2010-10-26 Thread David Dombrowsky
Chag's fix worked perfectly for me! I had the exact same problem and
setup

* nvidia card with dual monitor, with one monitor rotated
* upgraded to Ubuntu Maverick
* X started up fine, but when I tried to move any window, the whole X server
would segfault

I rebuild xserver-xorg-core according to instructions in comment #91
(which I will call the SHAZAM fix), and everything's back to normal.

I did try for several hours to get XRandR to work, and failed with every
combination. It just seems impossible to get it to rotate a single
monitor, and have a unified X screen for the whole desktop (i.e. be able
to drag windows between monitors). Does anyone know *why* Xinerama is
deprecated, since it seems to be the only solution for several uncommon-
but-useful desktop setups?

2010-10-26 Thread Felix Kuehling
Your Xorg.0.log shows you're using the Intel driver. So I guess your
laptop has Switchable graphics and the Intel graphics device is the one
that's enabled by default. The only way for you to use the RadeonHD 4330
under Linux at this time is to disable the Intel graphics in the BIOS
setup. If your BIOS setup doesn't have such an option, or if your laptop
doesn't have a hardware MUX to connect the Radeon to the display
outputs, you're stuck with the Intel integrated graphics under Linux.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 622926] [NEW] Switch User fails on return trip

2010-10-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: indicator-session

Lynx 10.04.1
Up-to-date.
Nvidia 3DForce FX5600 card.

DESCRIPTION:

Switching users is not reliable; when switching users, often when
returning to the first logged-on user, the computer ends up a blank
screen and I must turn it fully off with the power button. Success is
somewhat likely if a minimum of programs are running. I prefer a
complete log-off, as it is.

OTHER INFO:

Because there is a lot of screen flickering generally during these
operations, I have taken care to make the monitor settings identical.
But this doesn't help.

I use Ubuntu Lynx with Gnome desktop. I have an Nvidia 3DForce FX5600,
set to 1280x960 at 60hz; displayed on a ViewSonic VG2021m. Desktop
effects is set to lowest/normal (solves bad screen-flicker issue). The
gnome-power-manager app is removed because it caused problems when
logging off.

2010-10-26 Thread infatigabilidad
Public bug reported:

I have problems to deinstall fglrx. Further more the problem I have is:
sometimes cairo-dock has a black area as background and then i can't
start (and use) compiz. I have figured out some way to reinstall compiz
then the problems with cairo-dock disappeared but now i tried to update
Ubuntu and the display freezed, so I restarted the GUI. Now the problem
is back again and cairo-dock isn't starting during start/boot although
its activated to start automatically.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636311] Re: Keyboard special keys interfere with mouse

Dear all,
just for clarification. I do have the MS Wireless Keyboard and the fix from
Chris installed. I do not experience a jump to (0,0) when pressing a multimedia
key the first time but I am rid of the initial bug.

2010-10-26 Thread Steve Hogg
I'm getting the same message when running Boxee (based on xbmc). dmesg shows:
[drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Failed to parse relocation -12!

Looking back though, I also get on startup:

I had the same problem with Ubuntu 10.04 and had found at the time on
bugs.freedesktop.org bug #27284

lspci shows:
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RS480 [Radeon Xpress

Same problem here, but in my case it's sporadic and not 100%
reproducible.

[drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render ring head not reset to zero ctl

Occurs in periods of innactivity, but it's unrelated with suspension or
hibernate (I have them disabled). Some times hard to see because of
turning off the screen hides the message.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 666968] [NEW] Button 2 (middle) on touchpad works as button 1 (left)

2010-10-26 Thread Jasa Bartelj
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

I have an old HP nw8240 laptop. My synaptics touchpad has 3 buttons
instead of the usual two. Ever since the upgrade to maverick the middle
buttons above and below my touchpad behave as a left click.

I tested what events were generated by running xev and indeed whenever
the middle button is pressed button 1 events show up. Interesting to
note is that my external mouse works fine.

1) Ubuntu release: 10.10/maverick meerkat

2) The version of the package: IDK which package the bug really belongs to, but
my
xserver-xorg is at 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 and
xserver-xorg-core is at 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7 and
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics is at 1.2.2-2ubuntu5.

3) What you expected to happen
Middle trackpad button to work as button 2.

4) What happened instead
Middle trackpad button works as button 1.

There are no log files attached that provide any details of the kernel

However, Rage 128 is not supported by fglrx. Please use the open-source

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660273] Re: Xorg freeze

2010-10-26 Thread Matthew Geier
I also had random 'freezes' of the GUI. The system was still running,
but the X session - frozen,

Nothing in the syslog, dmesg or X.org log.

I did notice when the VirtualBox modules loaded it complained about a
NMI watch dog and 'performance counters'.

I removed the vboxdrv module (rmmod vboxdrv) and the random freezes stopped.
No reboot or log out or anything. With the module in place the UI would freeze
for 10s of seconds every few minutes. With the module unloaded the machine has
been happy for over an hour.

What I haven't done so far is reload the module and see what happens.

I'm running VirtualBox from Oracle's repo and not the OSE version as
the original poster appears to be, but there may be a connection.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 667104] [NEW] Screen distortion with compiz cube rotation and recommended nvidia driver

2010-10-26 Thread Colin Church
Public bug reported:

which looks like a trembling net, but does not allow 3d games like
foobillard.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660451] Re: X memory leak

2010-10-26 Thread Peter Hoeg
Just figured out what is going on here.

It was actually chromium causing the leakage in the X server when it has
GPU Accelerated Canvas 2D enabled (it's off by default). I just
disabled it, restarted X and now things are working brilliantly again.
W h.

Now, whether or not there is a bug in chromium, the fact that X leaks
memory due to a misbehaving application is clearly not right, so can
somebody else who is seeing this (or if you aren't, please try to see if
you can trigger the bug by enabling the 2d acceleration in chromium) so
we can get the proper information to the developers?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479844] Re: resolution 1280 768 not available cannot update with xrandr

2010-10-26 Thread Matthewgrinnan
[QUOTE]xrandr: cannot find mode 1024×768[/QUOTE]

I see a lot of people are having trouble with this.

In Linux capitalization is VERY important. Here you guys did not
capitalize your the X in your resolution. Once you capitalize your X
you should be good. Here is an example of what worked for me.

[code]xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1024x768 --rate 60[/code]
