[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626974] Re: ABI change in xorg 1.9 breaks legacy nvidia-96 drivers in Maverick

2010-11-07 Thread imlegend
I have solved my problems. Maybe there would be some help for James Kittsmiller.
1. Can't play video. It's the mplayer issue.
The cause was the mplayer couldn't find libvdpau.so.1. Just re-install libvdpau
in synaptic and it goes well.
2. The compiz issue.
Just check the version of the compiz. It may be too high(like 0.9.0). Downgrade
it and everything will be fine.
The packages are as below:
compiz
compiz-core
compiz-plugins
compiz-gnome
compizconfig-backend-gconf
compiz-fusion-plugins-main
compiz-fusion-plugins-extra
compiz-fusion-bcop
Totally remove them, and re-install them, then reboot and enjoy your 3D effects.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657106] Re: X with nvidia takes 3 minutes to load

2010-11-07 Thread Stanislav Sidorenko
This affects me too. I'm using 10.10, 460 GTX.

However I found that nouveau kernel module is still loaded on boot even
if nvidia proprietary driver is installed and activated. When I
blacklisted nouveau the issue looks to be fixed.

Disabling nouveau is described here
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/260.19.12/README/commonproblems.html

It is needed to create /etc/modprobe.d/disable-nouveau.conf file with the
following two lines added:
blacklist nouveau
options nouveau modeset=0

After doing this I didn't meet this issue for 3 days.

Hi

As "every 6 months" I need to report the SAME bug which lasts for 3
versions so far!

I'm testing Lucid beta1 loaded on april 4th, and as for Karmic and
Jaunty, my mouse has frozen after 3 minutes working. My PC is then
blocked and my only solution is rebooting.

I cannot give you the release of ubuntu because when I type 'lsb_release -rd'
the answer is command not found
usb-creator-gtk version is : 0.2.21

Could you please do something about this MAJOR bug which occured on 3
different versions, and on differnt PCs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 665991] Re: Unusable 3d acceleration on Maverick (ATI Radeon X1200)

2010-11-07 Thread André Oliva
Pater Phil: Thank you so much! That solved my problem. Of course, as I
expected, Unity still doesn't work, but I have the same acceptable 3d
acceleration of Lucid (I can see glxgears and use compiz and 3d
applications like stellarium).

I didn't know anything about kernel mode-setting. I thought that the
radeon driver was the responsible of my problem. Of course, when I turn
off KMS, some tasks are somewhat slower (specially during logins,
logouts and when I change user). I will mark this bug as invalid and I
will report a bug against the Linux kernel package here in Launchpad.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 487749] Re: trackpad-doublefinger-scroll

2010-11-07 Thread Gursimran singh Mohar
Ah!!
I thought that your scrolling areas are not correct but as you can still
experiance it in the current release, I think that this is not a bug at all.
Its rather a wishlist. If you can confirm that your touchpad scrolling areas
are all right like others, I can mark it into a wishlist.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 361693] Re: Aiptek tablet only registers as a mouse in /dev/input

2010-11-07 Thread shalafi
Thank you all for the info, specially the small details referring to:

- the xorg.config.d not being in the indicated location but on /usr/share/X11
- renaming the config file to 50-aiptek.conf

After that, the tablet does not have the "hovering effect" anymore and
everything works fine, including pressure.

For the record, I have a Debian testing with a 2.6.32 kernel and my
tablet is a Trust TB-3100

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 640749] Re: [xorg-edgers] openarena graphics freezes

2010-11-07 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
Bug still happens with 2.6.35-22 (stock updated maverick kernel) with
todays xorg-edgers. But this combination should not happen for normal
users of maverick or natty, I think.

** Description changed:

the game goes on, but I only see the frozen screen. I can go to ctrl+alt+f1 and

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem

current Ubuntu stable release(maverick ubuntu 10.10), this would help us

As you said, there's a patch already in upstream, I hope it has
downstreamed into ubuntu and fixed the bug..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619663] Re: [maverick] Non-mirrored dual-screen gives narrow display on secondary monitor

2010-11-07 Thread sanmiguel9
Hello,
the update in Maverick allowed me again to place my two screens (1280x1024 and
1280x800) next to each other as it was the case in Lucid. However, if I enable
compositing_manager in Gconf->apps->metacity all windows are overlayed by
semi-transparent shadows (cf. attached screenshot). This happens only if the
virtual screen exceeds 2048px.

I'm experiencing even more trouble on my Thinkpad T60 with an ATI M56GL

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 631007] Re: Installing nvidia-current fails if ccache is enabled

2010-11-07 Thread Theodore Ts'o
Yes, I'm able to reproduce it, and I even understand why it's failing
now.

The problem is that the kernel makefile is using the -MD option to
request that the makefile dependency information gets dumped to file
(i.e., /var/lib/dkms/nvidia-current/260.19.12/build/.nv.o.d). But
ccache 2.4 doesn't understand the -MD command, so it doesn't emulate it
if nv.o is in the ccache's cache. Hence the .nv.o.d file is missing,
and hence the fixdep command executed by the Kernel makefile fails, and
hence, the dkms build command fails.

This is fixed in ccache 3.0 (and ccache 3.1 is the latest version); by
adding teaching ccache how to deal with the gcc option -MD.

The easy workaround for now is to make sure the environment variable
CCACHE_DISABLE is set before installing a module that uses dkms, such as
nvidia-current

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 672210] [NEW] Dell Inspiron Crashes from Suspend/Hibernate

2010-11-07 Thread Keith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

If I close the lid to my laptop and open it... I can operate the machine
fine for a few moments, then the machine will randomly reboot (I tend to
notice this when I go to wesbsites that contain Flash, i.e. facebook
games).

If I manually hibernate, my screen saver pops up for a few seconds then
the machine shuts down. I had no problems on lucid 10.04. I have tried
using the 10.04 Kernal with Meerkat but the problem still persists.

ProblemType: Bug

machine but my distro is i686?? When I updated to Meerkat I did the

Ah, yes. Seems it was just a coincidence. I've met this problem once

sixth boot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629391] Re: Compiz Wallpaper plugin broken in 10.10

2010-11-07 Thread smoosh
I have a delay as well, but could care less because - it works! Also,
when I turn off wallpaper and then enable it again, there is a very long
delay where I have my gdm wallpaper for about 20 seconds. Everything
works normally, then out of nowhere, the compiz wallpaper plugin starts
working. Weird. Still, it works, so I'm happy for now. One bizzare thing
is that while the gdm wallpaper is showing (before the wallpaper plugin
kicks in) or if I disable the wallpaper plugin, the "reflection and
deformation" plugin does not work when I rotate the cube. I have no idea
what that means, but that's what happens

2010-11-07 Thread Timo Laine
I am now able to reproduce the bug. X seems to crash every time after
the first suspend after starting the system. After that, the crashes no
longer happen.

Although I have been able to reproduce the bug, so far I have failed to
get a backtrace. Gdb just reports "No stack." I did however do an
apport-collect.

2010-11-07 Thread Stefan Moluf
I am also experiencing this bug on an HP z800. I have tried many
different combinations of Nvidia (proprietary) and Xorg versions, all
with no effect. I suspect that Xorg is the victim of a bug in another
process rather that causing the behavior itself.

but the mouse and keyboard is still controlled by them by default.. and
needs several commandline actions to switch the function off.

so hereby requesting a means to set it other way around by default or a
more userfriendly way to switch between

packages from the Glasen PPA make Kwin's behaviour much more civilized.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636311] Re: Keyboard special keys interfere with mouse

2010-11-07 Thread Kyran
I wanted to add that I am affected by this bug (logitech revolution mx
mouse and a microsoft digital media 3000 keyboard ).

The packages supplied in the ppa in comment 56 fix the issue without any
side effects (so far)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 545096] Re: [lucid][R500 X1400] intermitent screen corruption (pink world ) - regression from -20 to -21 kernel

2010-11-07 Thread Mr. Norel
still no luck: 2.6.35-22-generic (ubuntu 10.10)
some X1400 in a Toshiba Satellite A100 that needs _toshiba_ drivers for XP
(win7 has drivers included) catalyst did not support this X1400

-nomodeset works, but unity is broken
-kms produces a black screen with some horizontal gray lines after one or two
minutes (or even >10 minutes sometimes)

how can I produce usefull data for a bug report?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655418] Re: left click stops working after playing sound

2010-11-07 Thread Aigars Mahinovs
I just got the same symptoms - my culprit is an A4Tech wireless
keyboard/mouse combo. As soon as the receiver for it is plugged in, all
mice stop working - the left click key down even registers around 5% of
the time and the key up event around 10% of the time (as shown by xev).
I have the hardware available for debugging and the event is 100%
reproducible on fully up-to-date Ubuntu 10.10. This wireless keyboard
has 'special' keys, including: power, back, forward, refresh, home,
search and email keys. Model: GLS-5.

This has nothing to do with a similar sounding flash player bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418209] Re: NV43 [GeForce 6600 GT] [10de:0140] dual head with full screen tsclient / remote-desktop prevents keyboard focus following mouse focus for previously selected windows.

2010-11-07 Thread Druid
I've just updated to 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and the bug is still there,
one slight change/improvement is that where originally I stated:

"Once anything has been typed then the mouse is unable to 'pick up' the
'active' screen (prior to anything being typed it works)".

This appears to now be fixed, the active window can be 'picked up' even
while keyboard focus is stuck in the remote desktop session.

On thing however I have noticed and I don't believe was originally a
problem is that you now don't need to select anything on the remote
desktop, just moving the mouse over and back again is enough to swap the
keyboard focus to the remote desktop again.

Let me know if you need apport logs again.
