[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500658] Re: Pointer stuck in upper-left corner while using touchpad on the upper left corner in emachines 2350
Dongxu, I'm not able to understand the situation properly. When the cursor is stuck, you can log the xev events showing the stuck behavior. MotionNotify event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x381, root 0xaf, subw 0x0, time 2940111, (-2,-2), root:(0,0), state 0x0, is_hint 0, same_screen YES MotionNotify event, serial 31, synthetic NO, window 0x381, root 0xaf, subw 0x0, time 2940120, (-2,-2), root:(0,0), state 0x0, is_hint 0, same_screen YES But are you sure you cannot demonstrate this stuck behavior in VT, in evtest. It means you cannot reproduce the bug in VT, is it correct? What you have to do is simply switch to VT, when everything is all right. Run evtest, see the events flowing when you touch on your touchpad and then try to reproduce the bug by touchpad at the upper left corner and then again touch at different positions to verify whether the bug has been reproduced or not in VT. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500658] Re: Pointer stuck in upper-left corner while using touchpad on the upper left corner in emachines 2350
Hi Gursimran, yes, I'm positive that this bug doesn't affect VT. I tested it again and again, the pointer moved properly throughout the test. Again, since the pointer can be recovered by Alt-F7 (or Alt-F8), it's unlikely a synaptics bug. More likely, it's an X bug but only triggered by some types of touchpad. xev log clearly shows the bug, position root:(0,0) never changes with MotionNotify events. As I mentioned, when the pointer is trapped at root:(0,0), the touchpad basically works, I can still tap-2-click, xev records MotionEvents as well. This explains how I took the xev log mentioned. still, is there a way to make X more verbose on events? -- Pointer stuck in upper-left corner while using touchpad on the upper left corner in emachines 2350 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500658 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You have been subscribed to a public bug: I installed the x86 server version of 10.4 LTS, but wanted a lightweight graphical environment, so I also installed LXDE and XDM. The system was connected to the internet through my local network and edge firewall, so I also selected to have updates applied during installation. During the setup I assigned passwords for both the root and normal user. Those passwords had whitespace (specifically, ASCII 0x20) in them. When setup completed and the system booted into graphical mode, I couldn't login to either the normal nor root account until I switched to an alternate text console, logged in and changed the password so there was no whitespace. After changing the password of the normal user, I was able to switch back to graphical mode and login to the normal user account using the new password. While in text mode, I had also gone into aptitude and applied all updates available for all installed packages and checked for any broken packages (there weren't any). I did try doing a graphical login after applying all available updates. The only way I can boot to the live desktop is by using the nomodeset option which makes me believe that this is probably related to the nvidia drivers, my laptop has a NVIDIA GEFORCE GTS 360M Sorry I can't be more descriptive ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ubuntu 10.10 beta live CD has major graphical glitches on ASUS G60JX https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/633277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs. ** Package changed: ubuntu = xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) -- ubuntu 10.10 beta live CD has major graphical glitches on ASUS G60JX https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/633277 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Instead, I installed Xubuntu (using the XFCE desktop GDM). But that has it's own set of (known) problems wrt to remote graphical login using VNC, namely that GDM doesn't fully support XDMCP, so no desktop is created after trying to login remotely (I had the same problem when I upgraded from Debian Etch to Lenny). I'll install Maverick in a VM to check, but I'm installing a new hard drive in the machine that contains all my VMs and since I'm a belt suspenders kind of guy, I use the -cc option to mkfs, so creating 500 MB partitions takes almost 40 hours each. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500658] Re: Pointer stuck in upper-left corner while using touchpad on the upper left corner in emachines 2350
Ya surely if it isn't related to kernel then its more likely to be related to X. My knowledge about triaging is not sufficient there. I hope I can assign some other triager for this bug. You will have to wait for for some more time till I assign the bug. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. -- Pointer stuck in upper-left corner while using touchpad on the upper left corner in emachines 2350 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500658 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669535] [NEW] desktop mysteriously freezes until keyboard or mouse input
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal Reported this bug as a gnome-terminal issue but it actually affects my entire X desktop. My Ubuntu desktop mysteriously freezes until I press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse. The entire desktop stops updating. The GNOME clock stops ticking off seconds, cursors stop flashing in web browsers or terminal windows. Simply moving the mouse brings everything back to life. The following bash command line shows that this issue is causing processes to block. The gaps below where seconds are skipped are where I saw the desktop freeze, waited a little while, and then moved the mouse to bring everything back to life. The bash process was obviously frozen during the gaps because it didn't print out the missing seconds after the mouse movement. I'm willing to help troubleshoot this issue further. (I'm a C++ programmer.) Note I have a more recent Catalyst driver installed because bugs in the stock Ubuntu Catalyst package were causing me problems (with development of a game). $ while true; do { date; sleep 1; } done Mon Nov 1 11:39:24 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:25 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:26 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:34 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:35 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:44 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:45 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:46 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:47 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:48 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:49 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:50 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:51 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:52 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:53 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:54 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:55 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:56 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:57 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:03 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:04 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:05 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:06 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:07 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:08 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:09 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:13 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:14 CDT 2010 ^C ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: gnome-terminal 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-25.45-generic 2.6.32.21+drm33.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-25-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Nov 1 11:37:46 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release amd64 (20091027) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-terminal ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- desktop mysteriously freezes until keyboard or mouse input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669535 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 619008] Re: Ubuntu 10.10 freezes when loading
Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. I can confirm that upgrading from one release to the next with the Nvidia hardware drivers installed will cause this issue. The only workaround I have found is to remove and reinstall the drivers. If the hardware drivers are removed prior to upgrading, this does not appear. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 653021] Re: Mouse's left button stops working.
More information, when I unplug the the keyboard I regain left button. This is not the same as 636311 as I don't use any of the media buttons or special keys. Simply starting a video (no matter what kind of video, from flash to mkv through VLC to .vob through totem) makes left click unusable as long as my keyboard is plugged in -- Mouse's left button stops working. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/653021 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 500658] Re: Pointer stuck in upper-left corner while using touchpad on the upper left corner in emachines 2350
Hi Fabio, the 6003C8 error is a well known consequence of touchpad's second query as /dev/input/mouse*, is harmless, and can be easily avoided, as shown in the attached Xorg.0.lo anyway, I'm sending the syslog kern.log still. Also, it's confirmed that archlinux is free from this bug, seems to be a ubuntu bug. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/500658/+attachment/1730811/+files/Xorg.0.log -- Pointer stuck in upper-left corner while using touchpad on the upper left corner in emachines 2350 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500658 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
