[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically
My friend has this weird problem too. Mouse clicks stop working randomly without any apparent reason, while he can still move the pointer. Keyboard works, but Alt-Tab stops working too, so that it becomes impossible to switch between windows. Looks like a problem with window manager, but this happens both with metacity and compiz. If I connect to his desktop via VNC, I cannot click anything either, Alt-Tab doesn't work for me too. Xev doesn't show any mouse events, event mouse movement over the window. If the mouse is re-plugged, everything starts working again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636311] Re: Keyboard special keys interfere with mouse
Alright, it seems there's been progress. Questions: - If it's fixed for you without adding the aubergine repository, does your mouse jump to the top left corner of the screen the first time you use one of the special keys after starting the computer? Several people have experienced that with the aubergine repository. - Is this a deliberate fix for this bug, or is it a side effect of an update fixing another bug? Could a future update make it reappear? - Is there a way for those of us who installed the package from the aubergine PPA to test the standard repos? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636311] Re: Keyboard special keys interfere with mouse
I have been using the aubergine packages since they were released and had been facing the (0,0) cursor move issue on first use ever since. Out of curiosity, I installed ppa-purge this morning and proceeded to purge the aubergine PPA. Four packages were downgraded: xserver-common xserver-xephyr xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-input-evdev. The first 3 packages are built from the xorg-server source package and the last one is built from the xserver-xorg-input-evdev source package. I took a look on both packages' changelog and, even though none has been modified since even before Maverick's release date, both the original issue of the special keys interfering with the mouse and the (0,0) cursor move glitch are gone now! This explains the flashing lines on primary screen when using also an external monitor: http://www.winischhofer.net/linuxsispart1.shtml#13 Reducing resolution and/or refresh rate and/or color depth is no options since this is already at an all time low. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 682722] [NEW] Win+L keystroke changes resolution AND locks screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Description:Ubuntu 10.10 Release:10.10 xorg: Installed: 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 Candidate: 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 Version table: *** 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I have my preferences set for the Windows Key + L to lock the screen. When I upgraded to 10.10, pressing the combination now both changes the resolution AND locks the screen. I have no keybinding set for changing resolutions! 1) The keybinding is shown as Mod4+L 2) This is a Dell Latitude E6500. The problem is reproducible on both the laptop keyboard and USB keyboard. The problem is similar to what happens when you press the Fn+F8 keybinding on the Dell keyboard to change monitor settings. 3) I am not running compiz. 4) My keyboard layout is Dvorak. 5) Keyboard is Evdev-managed. Thank you! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 677700] Re: Touchpad single-click registers double-click, and sometimes two middle-clicks
apport information ** Description changed: Using Synaptics touchpad, set to use single-clicks instead of double-clicks. Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick, 64-bit (clean install) on a Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 Single-clicks and tap-to-clicks register as double-clicks, and other weirdness Often and randomly, the left-click and sometimes the tap-to-click will register double-clicks instead of single-clicks. This results in problems like closing tabs in browsers when clicking on them. Also affects drags, which horribly screws up text when trying to drag a chunk of text from one place to another in the document. At times just moving the mouse across a document will result in selecting text, despite the fact that no double-click occurred to actually select any text, and the unintentionally-selected text is then dragged or copied and pasted to some other part of the document. Have also noticed that at times a single-click or tap-to-click results in something like two middle-clicks, or even a right-click and then the top-menu item. For instance, clicking on a tab in Chromium or Firefox doesn't simply select the tab, but instead opens two new tabs. This is a new problem on Maverick; it's never happened in the past, and doesn't occur using Windows in a virtual machine. I've seen similar bug reports, but they're old and for regular mice, not for touchpads. I'm not sure what debugging info to offer since this is so random and doesn't result in an actual crash. --- Architecture: amd64 DRM.card0.LVDS.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1280x800 edid-base64: AP///wAGr3SAAAEQAQOAIRV4Chz1l1hQjicnUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBxxsAoFAgFzAwIDYAS88QAAAYDwAg/gBBVU8KICAgICAgICAg/gBCMTU0RVcwOCBWMCAKAEU= DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: On modes: edid-base64: DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 DkmsStatus: vboxhost, 3.2.10, 2.6.35-23-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 3.2.10, 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release Candidate amd64 (20100928) MachineType: LENOVO INVALID Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.2.2-2ubuntu5 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.35-23-generic root=UUID=c0bf77ab-5be1-47b0-a53f-f5f7dc18fcbf ro splash vga=789 gfxpayload=true quiet quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-23.40-generic 2.6.35.7 Tags: maverick maverick Uname: Linux 2.6.35-23-generic x86_64 UserGroups: adm admin audio cdrom dialout dip fax floppy fuse lpadmin plugdev sambashare tape vboxusers video dmi.bios.date: 01/20/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 06CN33WW dmi.board.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 dmi.board.name: SPEEDY dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: 1.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: 1.0 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr06CN33WW:bd01/20/2009:svnLENOVO:pnINVALID:pvrLenovoIdeaPadY510:rvnLENOVO:rnSPEEDY:rvr1.0:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvr1.0: dmi.product.name: INVALID dmi.product.version: Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO system: distro: Ubuntu codename: maverick architecture: x86_64 kernel: 2.6.35-23-generic --- Architecture: amd64 DRM.card0.LVDS.1: status: connected enabled: enabled dpms: On modes: 1280x800 edid-base64: AP///wAGr3SAAAEQAQOAIRV4Chz1l1hQjicnUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBxxsAoFAgFzAwIDYAS88QAAAYDwAg/gBBVU8KICAgICAgICAg/gBCMTU0RVcwOCBWMCAKAEU= DRM.card0.VGA.1: status: disconnected enabled: disabled dpms: On modes: edid-base64: DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 DkmsStatus: vboxhost, 3.2.10, 2.6.35-23-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 3.2.10, 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release Candidate amd64 (20100928) MachineType: LENOVO INVALID Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.2.2-2ubuntu5 PackageArchitecture: amd64 ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-2.6.35-23-generic root=UUID=c0bf77ab-5be1-47b0-a53f-f5f7dc18fcbf ro splash vga=789 gfxpayload=true quiet quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-23.40-generic 2.6.35.7 Tags: maverick maverick Uname: Linux 2.6.35-23-generic x86_64 UserGroups: adm admin audio cdrom dialout dip fax floppy fuse lpadmin plugdev sambashare tape vboxusers video dmi.bios.date: 01/20/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 06CN33WW dmi.board.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 dmi.board.name: SPEEDY dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: 1.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 dmi.chassis.type: 10

As far as I am concerned, it's the exact same. He compiled the driver which was published by Antonio some time ago. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660273] Re: Xorg freeze
I think that this bug is not nouveau specific as it appears also on my t60 laptop with a ATI Mobility Radeon X1400-128MB graphic card. This happens mosty when the system is under heavy load. Sometimes I manage to switch to a console with ALT+STRG+F1 and kill Xorg (with sudo pkill Xorg). It will be restarted automatically, but the session is gone of course. Sometimes it's even not possibly anymore to switch to a console. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660331] Re: hp touchsmart 600-1010br no video
Here's how I got the graphics working on my HP TouchSmart 600 for Lucid and Maverick. I'm working partly from memory, so let me know if something doesn't work. 1) Install the latest Ubuntu (32 or 64 bit according to taste) using the alternative install; 2) Once Ubuntu is installed you will get a black screen after you reboot; 3) Recovery mode will also give you a black screen; 4) This sucks and the nouveau display driver is to blame, we need to blacklist it; 5) Let Ubuntu boot normally. Stare a while at the blank screen until you think the boot process is complete; 6) Use the key combination CTRL+ALT+F3 to switch to text mode; 7) You still won't see a thing. Sorry. You'll have to work blind for a while; 8) Enter the username you chose at installation followed by the password; 9) Enter the command $ sudo su followed by your password; 10) Enter the command $ echo 'blacklist nouveau' /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf; 11) Enter the command $ aptitude remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau; 12) Enter the command $ aptitude remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau-dbg; 13) Enter the command $ reboot and boot into recovery mode; If you're machine doesn't reboot at this point, you probably typed something wrong. Experience tells me that the only thing to do is to start over from step 5. 14) You should now see a text menu. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards
Hello, I have been out on another non-profit, making a conference on advanced audio and electroacoustics, there I am a pro, not in video...@tpurch, it seems as I told Martin in private I used some branch of your published code on the last version with a few modifications i did. The code used before was another branch, which was not 1366x768 compatible. If it has debug sumbols that will be on the makefile, and quite frankly, the driver looks quite the same in terms of size...who knows, i'm (very) familiar with dsp fixed-point assembler, kernel drivers I didn't touched those since win32, did about 4, written in 32-bit 8086 assembler. Coming back to the latest code, I have a few notes taken, told Martin that I would ship the source to him and yes. He will have the code and instructions this week, I will publish those, after I finally sit down and look at what I did to make that totally patched code compatible with Maverick. No tracking records exist for that code, and everything is a mess, that's why this has to gain access to tracked repositories. I tried to diff those from previous versions anad was a little astonished, and evn produced a code migrating directly from 8.10 to Maverick, but the flaws were there. From the results patent on-screen when starting up, there are problems to be solved in this driver. When I picked up from the changes made after 9.04, the driver was already an unfriendly one (Plymouth incompatibility), so my 9.04 version, which source code I preserve, should be the basis for any changes, but taking into account all the others since 8.10. Fortunately I kept just about everything. Now it is time to organize it and deliver it to who will be in charge. What I did up to the moment was trying to avoid the worst, keeping good people using a nice, community-maintained system. But, again, community- maintained does not mean chaos, and so it is good that things will be getting back on track, because there are huge quantities of these systems around the world. If this does not enter the current branch in xorg, I will continue to patch, because I still have a couple of this systems around. What I cannot do is to retrace the past work. I don't have the immediate expertise or time to do that.
