[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 507148] Re: [lucid] desktop runs out of video memory on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500
@Andy -- I'm saying that using what is in official Lucid works fine for everything except the guest session (which I never tried until comment #94). If I run my automated tests on official Lucid, there are no 'reserve failed for wait' log messages ever. If I run my automated tests with your kernel, there are 'reserve failed for wait' log messages, but everything appears otherwise ok and the guest session now works. There are more 'reserve failed for wait' log messages by far when running glxgears than anything else. I have tested the driver on Andy's kernel quite a bit (all with KMS/EXA -- the default in a Lucid install): * suspend/resume works * compiz works * metacity works * switching the System/Preferences/Appearance/Visual Effects to 'None', 'Normal' and 'Extra' all work * firefox works * OpenOffice.org writer works * flash works * full screen totem totem movie works * ~12 hours of automated tests with glxgears, totem playing a large flv file in repeat mode, and many applications launched/closed all works as well as before In addition, the kernel has seen real world testing on another system (also T42 with the same radeon 7500 chipset) with firefox, flash plugin, wine, evolution, empathy, suspend/resume, etc, for one work day. That system did not have any of the spurious log messages (no extended use of 3D other than compiz effects). In terms of performance, the system feels the same, but I have not performed instrumented performance tests. I looked at the 'drm/radeon/kms: Silent spurious error message' patch and I think it is ok to push Andy's kernel with this patch applied. I will continue to keep Andy's current kernel on the other system for continued real world testing and report back if there are any issues, but I think getting the fix into lucid-proposed is a go. Once if lucid- proposed I can retest with my automated script and get that kernel real world testing as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507148 Title: [lucid] desktop runs out of video memory on ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 662998] Re: System freezes when running on battery
Same here. Dell Studio 1558-0005 with Mobility Radeon HD5470 and Broadcom BCM43224 with latest drivers (Catalyst 10.11 for graphics, and 5.60.246.6 for WiFi, both from respective vendors' websites). It seems to be something with power management - the computer always runs perfectly fine on AC. On battery, it is OK until I start something more power-demanding, like use an external hard drive or WiFi - then it freezes wihin just few minutes. Every version of 2.6.35 from the repos exhibit this behavior. I tried 2.6.36 from the kernel PPA and it's still the same. 2.6.32-22 from Lucid runs fine. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/662998 Title: System freezes when running on battery ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591954] Re: Touchpad aspect ratio changes with TwinView
Yep, what's going on here is that the touchpad communicates its dimensions to the xserver, and then xserver compares that to the screen size and scales mouse movement to correspond to the screen. Most of the time that matches expectations, but when the aspect ratio of the screen differs significantly from the aspect ratio of the touchpad, it can produce weird results. In I've coded a patch to add a way to turn off this behavior, via either an xinput property Resolution Detect, or an xorg.conf option. * Add 116_resolution_detect_option.patch: Provide an option to prevent synaptics from communicating the touchpad size to the xserver. Unfortunately, for these kinds of bugs the backtrace in Xorg.0.log tends not to reveal much - just that the server was unable to communicate with the GPU's event queue for some reason, and the server noticed graphics data was not getting consumed. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg For a time, occasionally I'd experienced black screen (that appears and few seconds later disappears on it's own). As per the bug description, the bug is capable of multitouch. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 476866] Re: two-finger scrolling does not work on Dell Studio 15 (1555) via gui config
I'm not certain how to prove or disprove (a). I looked through all the files attached to this bug report but didn't find anything definitive. I poked around on my own hardware looking at lshal output, various files under /sys/class/input but didn't find something I could suggest checking. Presumably you can check your hardware vendor's data sheets. Regarding (b), try running this command: synclient -m 100 In theory, the fifth column 'f' is the number of fingers seen by the touchpad. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 684503] [NEW] GUI becomes partially unresponsive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Starting today, on my updated-today ubuntu 10.04 system, the gnome GUI becomes partially unresponsive after an uncertain amount of activity. After the problem occurs, - I cannot move windows or close them by clicking in the window manager decorations (title bar area, X button). - I can switch between workspaces using the Ctrl-Alt-Left and Ctrl-Alt-Right keyboard shortcuts. - I can create a new window terminal or close an existing window using keyboard shortcuts. I can type and enter commands in the current window. - I cannot switch between windows using Alt-Tab. - The mouse moves but most buttons, etc., in the GUI don't work. The mouse scroll wheel does however scroll the current gnome-terminal window. The laptop is a Sony VAIO VGN-Z, which has a kind of wierd dual (Intel or Nvidia) graphics devices, but I've been using the lucid lynx for some time haven't noticed the problem until today. I first noticed the problem when doing some work in a proprietary eclipse-based development environment. I don't yet know how to reliably reproduce the problem. As soon as I find a way I'll definitely report it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)
Thanks Chase. It sounds like support on the open source has some blockers, so for this bug report let's focus on the nwfermi driver. @djp, thanks for posting the .debs. It appears this contains a GPL'd kernel driver installable via dkms, and a closed binary nwfermi_daemon which is invoked using udev. Can you specify what the distribution terms are for nwfermi_daemon? Is it permissible for us to package and ship it in Ubuntu as a closed source driver? Because this driver does not depend on anything particular on the X side, I guess xserver-xorg-input-evdev is not the best component for it to be filed against, but I'm not certain of what package would be better (linux?) so will leave it here for now. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = Wishlist ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379313 Title: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch) via the nwfermi (proprietary) driver ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 379313] Re: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch)
djp, you mentioned earlier an interest in posting this to a PPA. Do you need help with this? Do you have a plan in place for how you want to be distributing it to go into the PPA? I think once that is sorted out, it would make it straightforward for us to even consider incorporating this into multiverse with other closed source drivers, which would make it even easier for Ubuntu users to install it. I'm not sure what the process is for getting additional closed source drivers accepted there, so that may or may not be feasible, but once it's packaged for PPA I'd be willing to investigate for you, if you'd like. ** Summary changed: - Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch) + Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch) via the nwfermi (proprietary) driver -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379313 Title: Handling NextWindow Touchscreen (multitouch) via the nwfermi (proprietary) driver ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
