[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318325] Re: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram
New install of Maverick UNE to a new (to me) Acer Aspire 5100-3949. Ran into this bug, and going through the workarounds. So far the only workaround that works is the one in Bug #576181 (keep the processor busy with a bash script). Yuck. Especially if you're on battery. Just tried the Ubuntu-X PPA at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates No improvement. Will next try the Xorg Crack PPA https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers I will report back IF it fixes this. P.S.: I installed UNE, and Unity doesn't work at all on this beast, so I'm logging in using GNOME. In Unity the desktop is blank, and the widgets flash blank rectangles when I mouse over but they are unreadable. I found the power widget in the top-right corner so I could make the menu come up to get it logged out. Related problem? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687325] Re: iMac 20 2007 dpkg-reconfigure xserver-org does nothing
I believe there is a typo in your description and title and you mean xserver-xorg (as xserver-org doesn't exist in ubuntu). Regarding the lack of configuration options I believe this was done on purpose as the newer xserver's auto-detect the hardware when you start the xserver. If you need to change the settings you may find you now have to edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the settings you need. If you have made some changes to your computer that has caused xorg to stop working and there is a xorg.conf file present first try renaming the file so the xserver starts with the default automatically detected settings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/687325 Title: iMac 20 2007 dpkg-reconfigure xserver-org does nothing ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 658379] Re: Maverick AMD64 Theme settings not recalled
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 500417 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500417 I am seeing this too. New, completely fresh install to a new machine. Ubuntu 10.10/Maverick amd64 on Intel Core i7 with nVidia Quadro FX 2800M. All looks fine until I install the nVidia drivers. If I use the 173 version or the version current this still happens. I also tried the latest driver from nVidia site: 260.1921 and it still happens. After using any of the three nVidia drivers and restarting, when I log into my account, the top panel (where Applications, Places, etc is) and all the icons in it (network connection, volume, etc) are from an old looking theme. When I launch an application, the buttons and controls in it also look very old. When I select System, Preferences, Appearance and select a different theme, such as Ambiance, it sort of works on open windows, but doesn't do anything to the top panel and top panel icons, and when I close it and re-open it, the theme I selected is no longer selected. It won't stick. Logging out and back in or fully rebooting reverts everything back to the very old theme. I tried running sudo gnome-appearance-properties in a terminal window, and when I make my selections from there, the top panel and icons change. I thought that I was all set with this workaround until I rebooted and ended up back with the very old theme. I read through bug #500417 and I don't think that this is a duplicate of that one. It seems to me that something which occurs as a result of the installation of the nVidia drivers (regardless of the version of those drivers) is breaking theme selection/saving. Is this perhaps only a 64-bit issue? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/658379 Title: Maverick AMD64 Theme settings not recalled ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687413] [NEW] Screen flicking with dual monitors in netbook remix on eeePC
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xrandr When I plug in a VGA cable to my EEE PC (1000HA - dual boot windows xp, ubuntu netbook remix) I have problems as outlined below. I've tried it on two monitors, one with partial success: 1. plugged in to 1680x1050 flatscreen monitor. Display appears with a resolution of 800x600. Changing the resolution through the monitor settings application results in both laptop and external screen flickering at about 2-3Hz and being unable to be read. I tried changing the resolution with xrandr (xrandr --output VGA1 --auto) which overlaid the laptop screen on to the external monitor. Trying to separate them (xrandr --output VGA1 --left-of LVDS1 caused the same appearance as above. 2. VGA connection to (I think 800x600) projector. Both screen flicker as above at about 2-3Hz. As I was about to give a presentation I didn't have time to play around with it, but switched to my back up plan (USB on windows!). Let me know if any logs/outputs would be useful. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687466] [NEW] dock icons disappearing on reopen (all programs)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Here are the exact steps I take to cause the problem: 1. Open any program. I'll use the Calculator program for this example. 2. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select Pin To Launcher 3. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select Quit. (The Calculator program quits and the Calculator icon is still pinned to the dock as expected) 4. Right click the Calculator icon on the dock and select Pin To Launcher (The Calculator icon on the dock disappears as expected) 5. Open the Calculator program. The icon will not appear in the dock as expected. The Calculator program will however open as expected. This happens with all of the programs I've tested. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676413] Re: Video playback performance drops substantially after suspend/wake cycle (Lenovo X201 i5 w/ Intel GMA HD)
This is a xorg-video-intel specific issue — the problem others are seeing with NVIDIA drivers may be similar, but they are probably not the same. The Intel driver guys know about this problem (see http://www .mail-archive.com/intel-...@lists.freedesktop.org/msg01932.html ), although I haven't heard anything about a fix yet. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687466] Re: dock icons disappearing on reopen (all programs)
Okay, I'm not sure what the package name is for the dock you're referring to, but from your description it sounds like you're running unity, so I'm reassigning the package there for diagnosis. It sounds sort of like a misbehavior in the window system functionality. Regarding figuring out packages to file things against, yeah it's hard to determine for bugs like this. There's a page at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage that can help, but it seems to be a bit out of date. So probably best way to learn is keep filing bugs like you're doing. :-) ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = unity (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/687466 Title: dock icons disappearing on reopen (all programs) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687494] Re: application window opens behind other windows
I tried this on two different laptops (Samsung and HP) on the livecd and both have the same bug. I did a full install on my Samsung and the bug was still there, but I did not get a chance to try the classic desktop. After a reset the laptop booted into a purple screen and froze. Subsequent resets did not alleviate the problem. Also, I was not able to activate the effects in the 'Change Background' menu. Whenever I tried to do this on the livecd the effects automatically turned off (or at least the indicator in 'change background' showed them as turned off) on both laptops. No error message showing. Possible bug? I attempted to reproduce this bug with other applications but they worked fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687494] Re: application window opens behind other windows
Okay, thanks for the additional testing. It's sounding more like a unity bug, if it can only be reproduced with the Applications menu. I'll refile this to unity. For the other issues you ran into, the purple screen + freeze sounds like a kernel drm bug. That class of bug tends to be very hard to diagnose, unless apport is able to automatically catch it. There are various workarounds depending on your hardware, but I'd suggest raising the issue on http://askubuntu.com for that. The trouble activating effects could be a compiz bug, but I'm not sure. There are established procedures for diagnosing that class of problem. If you want to chase that bug, I'd recommend opening a bug report against compiz if you want to investigate that. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = unity (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/687494 Title: application window opens behind other windows ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
