I've reproduced this myself on a 4G usb key, setting the reserved space to max (3.1G), as I've outlined in the description. Comment #7 on bug #562312 does indeed describe what is happening. I think there's a whole class of issues that can occur, which produce a range of different (and confusing) error messages, crashes, and so on. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685017 Title: Jockey should warn on insufficient disk space in LiveCD environment, else get error "package nvidia-current 260.19.21-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1" ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685017] Re: Jockey should warn on insufficient disk space in LiveCD environment, else get error "package nvidia-current 260.19.21-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess in
@Pedro, I believe that casper can only handle a 4G filesystem max (FAT limitation?) so even though it is 8Gb total the live environment can't address the upper 5-8G. So since your storage was set so large, there wasn't space to write the kernel. Or something like that. Try reducing the size of your storage to 2 or 3G. Or maybe manually partition the 8G drive into smaller chunks. ** Description changed: [Problem] This is a common issue encountered by users trying to install -nvidia on systems with insufficient space to install the driver. This can happen for instance if the user is booting from a usb disk. It is further noticed that in many cases the system may appear to have enough space, but it still fails on an out of space issue. It is suspected that either more space is used than expected, or the amount of available space is overreported. Jockey should check for available space on installation, and should include a sizable margin (like 2.5x space asked). @Andreas, mount the usb disk in a different working linux installation, and look at how much free disk space there is on the usb drive itself. My guess is maybe it ran out of space while trying to create vmlinuz-2.6.37-7-generic. What % of the free space did you allocate to reserve for documents and such? ** Description changed: [Problem] This is a common issue encountered by users trying to install -nvidia on systems with insufficient space to install the driver. This can happen for instance if the user is booting from a usb disk. It is further noticed that in many cases the system may appear to have enough space, but it still fails on an out of space issue. It is suspected that either more space is used than expected, or the amount of available space is overreported. Jockey should check for available space on installation, and should include a sizable margin (like 2.5x space asked). If the user has less than that amount of space, it should give a dialog warning them that they won't have enough space. [Steps to Reproduce] - (Sarvatt, please fill in) + 1. Download an ISO + 2. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418939] Re: Too many crimean tatar keyboard layouts added for Romania
And, very briefly: the long-standing improvised solution of keyboard layouts in Linux, so rigid and so impossible to modify (as in Mac OS, using either Alex Eulenberg’s site or John Brownies’s UKELELE) is the main reason why linux cannot be efficiently used in foreign language teaching and never in dealing with special situations like old languages like Old church Slavonic, Old Italic / Etruscan, Gothic etc. etc. because is a tantalizing cause to try to create your keylayouts in linux. This is, in fact, the essence of the discussion, not those badly put Tartar kaylayouts under Romania, disregarding who had in fact this eerie, whimsical idea. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/418939 Title: Too many crimean tatar keyboard layouts added for Romania ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418939] Re: Too many crimean tatar keyboard layouts added for Romania
As I was one of those, who triggered the discussion, even if not directly, I am compelled to make some clarifications. So: ‘t's about Romanian users being exposed to layouts for languages they don't have any interest in seeing (or even, apparently, which they would rather not see)’. No, this is NOT a political issue, it has nothing to do with tolerance, with human rights and with minority issues. It has to do WITH CORRECTNESS of a linguistic issue connected to a keyboard layout, nothing more. As a linguist and a person who speaks several languages, and—even if not familiar with Altaic languages—I feel at home with linguistics at large. To a large extent, this issue is connected to the entirely wrong approach of keylayouts in Linux (am a Mac OS user, and creator of several keylayouts for Romanian—several variants, Old Italic, Old Church Slavonic, Czech. So, I feel competent to speak about this issue (see http://www.unibuc.ro/ro/cd_sorpaliga_ro , the English page seems to be under revision). Linux distros deal with political entities, and then places keylayouts under countries / states, an entirely wrong view, even if, of course, covering a reality. But what happens with those situations when there is no state there? What about Old Church Slavonic, Old Italic / Etruscan, Gothic etc. etc. Shall we randomly put them under a certain pretext? The four or five Crimean Tatar keylayouts under Romanian is a total absurdity. It is true that there is a Tartar minority in Dobrudja, respected as human beings (I know some of them personally, my wife worked with them for 2 years). What has this to do with putting those unhappy keylayouts under Romania? Do something, find something more intelligent than this really bad solution. Be constructive, use your inteliigence in order to achieve a superior way of thinking and do remove those keylayouts from there. They are entirely useless. And note that they are badly put there not because I / we do not want to see them there, but because their location should not be there. As Tartar is an Altaic language, until you find a more generic and more flexible solution, their place may be under Turkey or Mongolia or anything similar. This is not an ideal solution either, I agree, but it has at least a minimum of a logical approach.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650803] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup fbdecdff (IPEHR: 0x01800020)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 626967 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626967 I am not entirely convinced that 626967 is a true duplicate, however I belive 650803 (this bug) can be safely closed based on the following testing: I tested xserver-xorg-video-intel versions 2:2.12.0-ubuntu5.1 and ubuntu5.2~lp626967 from Robert Hooker for about three days under the following conditions / environments: - Acer 3820T with Core i3-350m and integrated graphics only - Completely updated Ubuntu Maverick - Kernels 2.6.35, 2.6.36-2 and 2.6.37-8 - Multiple shutdowns, suspend/resume, and hibernate/resume cycles in each - Xfce and Enlightenment 17 DEs - Multi-display setup on laptop LVDS with or without HDMI out I saw zero apport crashes, no compositor issues, no MI_WAIT_FOR_EVENT errors logged, and similar power usage/wakeups/interrupt counts. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/650803 Title: [arrandale] GPU lockup fbdecdff (IPEHR: 0x01800020) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 688414] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find. ** Visibility changed to: Public ** This bug is no longer flagged as a security vulnerability -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/688414 Title: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 532579] Re: [i815] Segfault in libint10 when restarting xserver or using custom xorg.conf
[SOLVED] My problem was somewhat different (see below), but the solution TJ suggested worked wonders for me. Thanks. :)) Problem: Having installed Linux Mint 9 LXDE on an elderly HP Vectra VL400 workstation (PIII 1GHz, 512MB RAM, 20GB HDD), the graphic UI was available, but my maximum resolution would be 800x600x60Hz and I had no 'xorg.conf' file in '/etc/X11/'. Querying with lspci returned the following adapter identification: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82815 Chipset Graphics Controller (CGC) (rev 02) Thus began my two day ordeal. After searching high and low, reading leaft and right, a lot of brow wrinkling, pencil sucking, and hair pulling, I was exactly where I started, with zero results. I saw elsewhere (http://ohioloco.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1484137) how this predicament could be solved by installing the latest libdrm, which I did to no avail. I even tried building a new xorg.conf by hand, and failed miserably, attesting the real depth of my noobiness. The system wouldn't even start, so I had to launch the livecd to delete that xorg.conf... But eventually that was the seed for the solution: after some more editing, including the Section "Module" suggested by TJ, I rebooted and everything automagically worked -- without further ado, I now have 1024x768x85Hz, which is rather more bearable to work with. So here's the healing xorg.conf: - xorg.conf - Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Corporation 82815 CGC" Driver "intel" # Driver "vesa" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "DEC" ModelName "VRT17-HA" Option "DPMS" HorizSync 29-82 VertRefresh 50-150 EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Intel Corporation 82815 CGC" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth16 SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection EndSection Section "Server Layout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen "Default Screen" EndSection Section "Module" Load"vesa" EndSection -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532579 Title: [i815] Segfault in libint10 when restarting xserver or using custom xorg.conf ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
