[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685280] Re: package nvidia-173 173.14.28-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-12-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
By chance were you trying to install it on a USB stick?

If so, how large is the USB stick, and if you reserved persistent
storage space how much did you reserve?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 684665] Re: package fglrx 2:8.780-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-12-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Can you explain in more detail how you got this error?

Were you installing onto a USB drive?

I also have an evergreen ati card, and I was able to get fglrx installed
on it without this error. I also got unity installed and booted okay,
although I had some problems with the docker.

So you should give more details about what you did to get this error. I
can't reproduce it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689000] Re: Correct resolution (1280x720) not available, screen goes over the edges of the display

2010-12-12 Thread Hans Hellén
Again from Lucid Lynx installation: xorg.conf which gives correct
resolution. Still the overscan is an issue.

Furthermore, the nvidia-current driver gives only a blank screen, after
automatically logging in.

The issues:
– the default driver (in LiveCD etc.) nv (or was it Nouveau?) does not give
1280x720
– nvidia-current does not give anything.

Still the overscan is an issue. Also low resolution when using nv. There
is now a parallel report from Natty LiveCD: Bug #689000.

I just uploaded EDID information there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689250] [NEW] Touchpad is detected as a mouse.

2010-12-12 Thread Stephan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Touchpad at Dell Vostro V13 is detected as a mouse. Therefore, the touchpad
isn't working correctly.
Even a solution for other Dell notebooks under
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Touchpad#Touchpad-wird-nicht-erkannt
doesn't work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318325] Re: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram

2010-12-12 Thread Tommy Trussell
On this Acer Aspire 5100 I just tried the following:

-- disabled KMS using # echo options radeon modeset=0
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf
but disabling KMS had no noticeable effect on flicker.

-- tried vesa driver by creating an xorg.conf
The vesa driver came up in low resolution, AND the machine flickered
after suspend.

-- tried fbdev driver by creating an xorg.conf
The fbdev driver didn't work with X at all; X wouldn't start.

All of the above was tested using the stock Maverick 10.10 xorg, NOT the
newer PPAs. When I get a chance I may try the Xorg Crack PPA.

I consider suspend and resume essential on a laptop, so I am open to
suggestions for other things I might try.

P.S.: I believe this particular laptop only contains the stock 1Gb RAM.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 684503] Re: GUI becomes partially unresponsive

2010-12-12 Thread amondo
I have the exact same problem on 10.04 after performing the latest
update-manager update.

The problem is that desktop becomes unresponsive. Clicking on a window
does not change focus to that window. Window manager buttons do not
respond. Not possible to move windows around. Button widgets in
applications do not respond to clicks. Not possible to ALT+TAB or to
focus on the GNOME panel.

The problem occurs with or without Compiz enabled. So not Compiz-
specific.

Using Synaptic's history, I managed to track down the updated packages
(attached). Unfortunately none of them look like specifically X related
updates.

My current theory is that it might be Firefox related, interacting with
something else I am running.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689309] [NEW] VT switch gives black console screen

2010-12-12 Thread Werner Lueckel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Before starting X all VT´s work as expected and I cat VT-switch as usual.
After starting X (via xinit) the X-Screen appears on VT-7 as expected,
BUT ..
when doing a Ctrl+Alt+F1-F6 switch the tty consoles become invisible. The
user can type blindly but sees nothing.
When switching back to VT-7 the X-Screen appears (as expected)
When exiting X, ALL terminals are black (invisible); but I can do a blindly
reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656279] Re: NVRM: os_raise_smp_barrier(), invalid context!

2010-12-12 Thread Soenke
I experienced the same slowdown issues after resume. Even with
2.6.36-020636-generic kernel and 260.19.26 (Maverick x86_64 on a
thinkpad t410 with GT218 [NVS 3100M]).

The hyperthreading workaround
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/671932/comments/6)
works for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: MASTER: support graphics card hot switch

2010-12-12 Thread Anton
I submit DSDT again, as a BIOS update have changed them.
Interesting for the curious is that there are changes in graphic sections.
In both cases, it seems that discrete ATI is turned off if the computer detects
that OS is not Win7. In fact, there are no ATI drivers for XP in HP support,
only for Win7.
F16 and F23 in file names are the past and present BIOS versions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-12 Thread Anton
deb package builds ok with 2.6.35-24 kernel.
Package performs very well on two finger scrolling, with only some problems
when the two fingers are very close (Same problem but worse in a Win7 install
that I did only for test win. synaptic driver).
Main problem is that it lacks detection of click zone of clickpads, so
click+move or right click are impossible.

Also, doesn't build with 2.6.36 or 2.6.37 kernels

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524281] Re: Tens of wakes per second in [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick on Core 2 Duo even with only 1 core enabled

2010-12-12 Thread Benjamin Schmid
Same problem here on a Thinkpad Edge 11 AMD Neo II K325:
  Wakeups-from-idle per second : 355.6 interval: 15.0s
49.5% (313.0) [Rescheduling interrupts] kernel IPI
19.7% (124.3) [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick

Would be great if this problem can be solved with Natty.

As long as Natty uses the 2.6.36 or later, this should not be a problem - it is
a kernel issue, not an issue related to Ubuntu alone.

It will most definitely extend your battery life! Using the mainline kernel has
helped a lot :)

Excellent. I'd seen that patch, and was going to ask for testing on
this bug. It's pleasantly small and self-contained.

I'm on holiday for the next couple of days, but if no one else picks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 418470] Re: USB Gamepad detected as mouse (Speedlink 360 style)

2010-12-12 Thread Daniel Añez Scott
I'm having this bug as well, with a genius maxfire g-12u.
Running ubuntu maverick 64 bits, and the weird thing is that it worked normally
yesterday, maybe it's bugged now because the joystick was already plugged when
I turned on the computer, and yesterday I plugged when I wanted to play, with
ubuntu already running.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585853] Re: Not possible to use xdm/wdm, only can use gdm (Lucid, Maverick)

2010-12-12 Thread Mark Eichin
FTR I'm seeing this on maverick, with radeon.modeset=1 (and options
radeon modeset=1) on a Thinkpad T60p, lspci says ATI Technologies Inc
M56GL [Mobility FireGL V5200], with the fglrx drivers --purged (because
they dropped support for this chipset a while back - with the useless
proprietary drivers installed, X starts fine but all GL code (glxinfo,
glxgears) dies with a near-immediate coredump.)

With the start gdm, kill gdm, start xdm workaround, I get working
glxinfo and glxgears.

(I haven't tried turning off modeset with fglrx purged, yet.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689465] [NEW] Radeon HD 5670 doesn't use accelerated 3D

2010-12-12 Thread Chris
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

According to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver , the Radeon
HD 5670 should have accelerated 3D support.

Mine is using software rendering on both Maverick and the latest Natty.
If it makes any difference the computer is a new iMac (2nd of the 4
standard configurations).

Thank you for your help,
Chris

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 542660] Re: New Apple iMac (Core i5) fails to display anything

2010-12-12 Thread artik
Hi Andy, Hi Jisaac. A pretty strange thing is the most bugs are
regressives. Display worked fine in Karmic, Blutooth worked fine on
Lucid, and microphone was low in lucid, and totally muted in maverick
(need to use the Jisaac's trick to bost it more than 300% to get a
normal Microphone).

Most bugs have their solutions, but the ATI bug is a real nightmare. So
many perofmrances / applications / bugs are generated due this bug
(photoshop in wine, video, VLC, Vsync ). Thinking about selling my
actual Imac to buy a new one with good ID (not late 2009). Let's hope a
little bit more ... and thanks to keep regards on this bug. Let me now
if You need tests : ready to re-install ubuntu and beta as many times
needed to solved it ... But damn ! why it switch the display output !

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660331] Re: hp touchsmart 600-1010br no video

2010-12-12 Thread felipemoraes
Also, when starting ubuntu text mode is initialized first then graphical
mode enters, things which I do not verified in previous ubuntu versions
in my old computer. Also when entering text mode or shutting down the
computer, the screen goes blue, then with 3 colors rectangles, then it
goes gray, then white before really shutting down...or not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 684503] Re: GUI becomes partially unresponsive

2010-12-12 Thread clark3934
I think I have this same bug. I originally suspected that it had
something to do with chrome, since it always seemed to occur when I was
browsing the net, but after reading your report, I now think the more
likely candidate is eclipse, since I've always had eclipse open when the
bug occurs. Perhaps the bug is caused by switching back and forth
between workspaces using Ctrl-Alt-Left and Ctrl-Alt-Right (something I
do often)? I suspect eclipse + switching workspaces may be occasionally
breaking whatever handles window focus.

I have reproduced this bug on two machines, both of which were using
eclipse at the time. I can usually fix the problem by closing chrome
(and any other programs, except for eclipse) using Alt-F4, but I'm not
sure if that always works.

Here's some basic information on one of the machines, a Lenovo T500
Thinkpad:

$ lsb_release -rd

$ uname -a
Linux clark-laptop 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 2 02:41:37 UTC 2010
x86_64 GNU/Linux

I've had this bug crop up while running both the integrated (Intel) and
discrete (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650) graphics cards on my laptop, well
as when using my desktop's Nvidia card, so I don't think it's related to
any graphics driver. I also don't think it's related to compiz, since
I've been able to reproduce this bug using metacity.

Let me know if I need to post any more information!
