[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 528467] Re: [i855] GPU hung (drm i915 intel) on Lucid Lynx

2010-12-17 Thread Johan Vervloet
A workaround seems to be disabling 'kernel mode setting'.

Since I am a clueless user ;-), I am not sure how to do this. I tried
these two things:

1. execute this command (as root):

echo options i915 modeset=0 /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf

2. edit /etc/default/grub; change the line starting with
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT to

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=splash quiet nomodeset

and then: update-grub

I have a similar issue with the nouveau drivers. I have an XPS M1710 and
the built-in display is detected properly, but the secondary monitor is
not. (The Nvidia binary driver detects it properly). dmesg output is
similar, but the invalid edid is even more suspicious looking:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 542660] Re: New Apple iMac (Core i5) fails to display anything

2010-12-17 Thread Andy Whitcroft
@artik -- if you are able to use the second screen on the live CD it
would be good to get the dmesg output and the contents of all of the
files in /sys/class/drm/card0, we may be able to work out why it thinks
there is no output for the LVDS.

If only apple would publicise their physical configurations the
community would have a hope of keeping any of their kit working.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 571638] Re: Keyboard does not work when touchpad disable button pressed

2010-12-17 Thread Christian Göbel
Same issue on a Samsung X20.

I tagged this bug as regression, since before Lucid everything worked fine.

The following bug seems to be related (as mentioned above):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549727
The comments there suggest that the issue is due to the interaction between
gnome-settings-daemon and the synaptics driver.

So it is not clear if the bug is appropriately assigned to the synaptics
driver.

Anything we could do to get more attention? Should we deliver more
information? Open a bug-report upstream? Which project?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572139] [NEW] Samsung LE-46B530 TV does not work with Intel DH55HC motherboard

2010-12-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm running current release of Lucid Lynx desktop version and trying to use
1080p with this TV.
This report includes description of the released official (non-RC) 10.04 LTS
desktop version.
BIOS is now the latest 0028 version.

Two tests:
1. Connect HDMI from motherboard to Onkyo amplifier and from Onkyo amplifier to
TV:
Onkyo 7 text shown in display settings.
2. Connect HDMI from motherboard directly to TV:
Samsung 7 text shown in display settings.

The first setup is the one I'm planning to use. What happens is that in
both tests 1 and 2 couple of centimeters (1 inch) is missing at least
from top and bottom of the screen (probably also from left and right). I
can't see any menus but they are there if I scroll the mouse outside
the visible area and click there. A workaround to this problem is to use
Screen Fit option in the TV, not 16:9. The Screen Fit option has
to be used with both 1920 x 1080 (16:9) and 1280 x 720 (16:9)
resolutions. The resolutions seem to be correct however: if I take a
screenshot then it is exactly 1280 x 720.

In summary, there are three problems with this TV:
1) Screen Fit option has to be selected.
2) Searching for Signals problem in 1920 x 1080: it starts when scrolling in
Firefox or moving windows.
3) Flickering problem in 1920 x 1080: the picture tears, this may include
problem 2.
4) No HDMI audio. There is only a faint click sound when trying to play audio.

Scrolling in Firefox usually causes symptom 2 but the Searching for Signals
text may disappear and the picture comes back if scrolling back.
Flickering in problem 3 may disappear if moving the window back, but it starts
again especially if window is on the border of the screen.

Problems 2 and 3 do not occur with resolution 1280 x 720 so it is full
HD specific.

I also tried to install the latest PPA kernel (2.6.34-999). With this
kernel problem 4 vanishes and the HDMI audio is played correctly. Also
problem 3 is much less severe with the kernel update. Anyway even with
the kernel update problems 1 and 2 remain.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572139] Re: Samsung LE-46B530 TV does not work with Intel DH55HC motherboard

2010-12-17 Thread shankao
After reading the comments here, could you recap. the problems that you
are experiencing right now (not fixed)? If they are more than one, they
should go filled in different bugs, as the causes are likely different
as well. Let's continue here with the flickering/no signal problem,
please fill other separate bugs that you are experiencing.

I think this bug goes under the general package xorg or maybe the
kernel, but let's start investigating from the former as we need some
logs. In order to take them, could you please trigger the error (do the
firefox thing) and after that, run the command:

apport-collect 572139

It will automatically get the required logs and attach them to this bug
(as I'm changing the package to xorg, the information collected will be
the officially required for that package).

Thanks for your collaboration!

I am not seeing this message in the logs anymore and experience no crashed,

I'm experiencing this bug, too

- Zotac ION ITX
- Ubuntu 10.10 32bit
- Single screen configuration
- NVIDIA closed source drivers from distribution

Many QT based applications seem to be affected. In addition to those
listed in the bug title, i have also problems with keepassx and
smplayer. Some apps crash the x server immediately, others only when
trying to work with them (e.g. opening dialog boxes).

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

With Ubuntu 10.04 LTS I had a very good graphics performance with my

pity to loose the good performance I had before.

Please let me know if further information is needed and/or if it is

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689309] Re: VT switch gives black console screen

2010-12-17 Thread Werner Lueckel
Fri Dec 17 18:24:19 CET 2010
After some testing and google'ing I found a work-around ...

after exiting X, the console seems to be in a kind of dpms off - mode;

as root:
vbetool dpms off # (I don't know why, because the VTs seem to be 'off')
followed by a
  vbetool dpms on
makes the VTs visible again!
Unfortunately I must run these commands blindly or via a remote-login.

Very good so far; I should implement that into my xinit-exit-sequence.

But, I think, the 'set-visible' sequence should be done by that part of
Xorg, that did the 'dpms off'

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 691653] Re: compiz crashes when using alt-tab (the radeon driver kills it)

2010-12-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
Please run 'apport-collect 691653', so that it captures your X logs and
pci ids and so on.

Also, collect another backtrace using 'bt full' in gdb. That should
list out line numbers for the GL calls.

Offhand I wonder if this might be an r300 vs. r300g issue...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 571638] Re: Keyboard does not work when touchpad disable button pressed

2010-12-17 Thread Christian Göbel
I am just a user, trying to find out if the problem is due to a change
in the Synaptics-driver or to a change in the gnome-setting (or gnome-
settings daemon).

In earlier versions of Ubuntu (8.04) the following entry (apparently
responsible for the problem) does not exist in gconf:
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/touchpad

Could somebody please check if the keybinding is set in Ubuntu 9.04 (the last
version of Ubuntu where the problem did not appear). I already tried to check
this is a live-cd - however Ubuntu 9.04 did not boot on my laptop.
If you have a live-CD or install of Ubuntu 9.04 available please:
a) boot
b) open gconf-editor (e.g. Atl-F2, type gconf-editor)
c) check the value of /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/touchpad
d) report back the answers to the following questions:
- Does the entry /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/touchpad exist?
- What is the value of the setting?

Thanks a lot in advance.
