[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 690755] Re: poor graphics performance with nvidia-current in maverick
I also failed to get VDPAU acceleration on 10.10. The fix was to create a link to /usr/lib/nvidia-current/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so in /usr/lib (it already existed in /usr/lib32) like so: sudo ln -s /usr/lib/nvidia-current/vdpau/libvdpau_nvidia.so /usr/lib/libvdpau_nvidia.so After this, both xbmc (Dharma) and mplayer -vo vdpau seemed to use vdpau OK. Prior to fix, the error was: Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_nvidia.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. AFAIK this affects 64bit systems only. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/690755 Title: poor graphics performance with nvidia-current in maverick ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg-server + [ Comments added for Natty 11.04 alpha version } [ Comments added for Maveric beta versions ] It is now impossible to boot and log in on this system from the beta-2 live CD - see comment #111. THIS NOW SEEMS TO BE 'CURED' by running kernels from Karmic - see comments past #100. A Framebuffer driver seems to be involved - see comment #109. I installed Lucid on the Averatec 3280 laptop from the Alternate CD on 10 December 2009. I then updated the system with apt-get several times. On booting this morning, the logical screen origin was shifted to the center of the screen. With some difficulty, I was able to log in, and to try to find a solution. After the original installation, my login screen was too large, so that the login window was of center. It looks like some bugs have been reported about that issue, such as #231555 and @214704; I haven't looked at the details. I have had similar problems with earlier releases on this laptop. However, once logged in, the screen resolution was correct (1024x768 on this laptop's panel). Adding an xorg.conf file seemed to cure the login screen size problem. The split-screen problem only appeared this morning, after an update the previous evening. I will attach a photo of the screen and any further details a bit later - it's a bit difficult to edit this report with the screen split with the browser's left and right margins in the middle of the screen. Also, I now get a blank screen when trying to ctrl-alt-F3 etc to a tty console - this did not happen with the original installation of Lucid, yesterday. This problem makes the system virtually unusable! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676805] Re: Acer Aspire 5742z: xorg fails to start after install
This bug happens on my new 5742Z also. However, updating the system immediately after install fixes the problem. From the command line that appears on the first boot after install I ran sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade. The screen went blank before the upgrade completed and I could not get it back using any combination of keys, but I left it running until all network and drive activity stopped, then shut down with a single press of the power button. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid
A serious problem has just arisen after an update today. I did the update while the system was started, but before logging in (I switched to a text console while the login screen was appearing). Once I logged in, in safe mode, the 2 icons I'd created on the desktop were bouncing up and down, and neither top nor bottom panel showed. Then I rebooted. The login dialog was bouncing up and down so I could not log in. I was still able to switch to a text console and collect some data. By the way, the screen resolution seemed to have been set properly, but I'm not completely sure about that. I've attached a .tgz archive with Xorg.0.log and the output of 'apt- show-versions'. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log and apt-show-versions output https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/495553/+attachment/1774866/+files/flashingbug.tgz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 Title: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 659205] Re: [fglrx] fails to detect correct resolution with non-multiple of 64 virtual desktop area
I'm seeing similar behavior on a desktop with a Radeon HD 4870. However, the 'multiples of 64' bit seems to be a red herring. I have a pair of 1920x1080 displays, and when I set Virtual 3840 1080, the maximum detected resolutions are 1440x900 and 1400x1050. If I set Virtual 3840 1088 (multiple of 64), I get the same result. If I set Virtual 3840 3840, both displays offer the intended 1920x1080 mode. In the failure case, I see these lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log: (II) fglrx(0): Not using mode 1920x1080 (width too large for virtual size) (II) fglrx(0): Not using mode 1776x1000 (width too large for virtual size) (II) fglrx(0): Not using mode 1680x1050 (width too large for virtual size) Is it possible the driver wants a virtual area big enough to contain the modes in any orientation and arrangement? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 240738] Re: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad
I wrote to Peter Osterlund, still listed on the Man pages as the author (but he is no longer the maintainer of it.) This is his response: I was not aware of this problem (I don't normally use syndaemon), but I was able to reproduce the problem on my fedora machine. The problem is that the default keyboard polling interval is now 200ms, so keypresses shorter than that risk being missed. There is however an undocumented switch -m to change the polling interval, so try running syndaemon -i 0.5 -k -m 20, which sets the polling interval to 20ms. I guess this change was made to conserve battery power on laptops. It would be better if syndaemon didn't have to poll at all, but I don't know how to implement that, or if it is even possible. Btw, I am no longer maintaining this driver, but feel free to forward my response to whoever is maintaining the driver these days. Best regards, Peter Osterlund I did test it and while the -m 20 didn't seem to make much difference, changing it to -m 2 did resolve the problem. However, as Peter mentioned, it may be too much on the system to poll every 2ms. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/240738 Title: syndaemon sometimes fails to disable the touchpad ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@Bryce, cheers that is helpful I will try to make a PPA early next year. I do have one question, is it possible to put a EULA type agreement (do not sue us etc) into a deb or PPA? @Mathijs, there will a multitouch release in January, I havent seen nwtool but I will take a look @WebNuLL @ Aymeric, we already have a calibration facility, I will explain how to use it in this new release I am attaching fermi 0.4.5, the main fixes here are: - nwfermi_daemon udev coldboot doesnt always work - configuration settings are available via named pipe To start the calibration procedure run the following command: ‘echo -e C\x02\x21\x01 /tmp/nwfermi0-tl-in’ The cursor will move to four locations around the screen and to complete calibration you just need to touch and hold at the cursor positions untill they move to the next location. Upon successful calibration settings will be saved to /etc/nextwindow/nw- fermi/_XX_DriverSettings.dat, you can delete this file to return to factory defaults. I hope this is helpful you all. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 495553] Re: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid
The behavior described above was with the Openchrome driver build from source a couple of days ago. I then reinstalled the driver from the repository, and the only difference in behavior was that the initial resolution after booting turns out to be 1600x1200; and that can be changed by installing an xorg.conf file. It's not clear if this behavior arises from this particular display driver; possibly not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495553 Title: [K8M800] Maverick 10.10 live-CD login failure, ttyN screens don't work, on Averatec 3280 running Lucid ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
