[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-12-28 Thread John Lawton
I see that this bug is low priority. I have just upgraded my hardware
to an i7 950 with Nvidia 460 card and SSD and done a fresh install of
10.10 64bit and this bug affects me. Since quite a few other people
will have upgraded their hardware now in the near future (Christmas?) I
hope that the priority is raised soon!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557065] Re: frozen mouse/ keyboard

2010-12-28 Thread mpaq
I've try:

To force GRUB to acpi_skip_timer_override : no change
To force GRUB to noacpi nolapci : non change

To boot on CD UBUNTU iso 10.04.1 LTS 32 bits : no change (keyboard/mouse
freezing after 1 minute)

Change BIOS settings : What are the best configuration possible for
those setting in UBUNTU?

I'v try (Default config):
Suspend mode : Auto
Repost Video on S3 Resume : No
ACPI 2.0 : Disable
ACPI APIC Support : Enable
EuP Ready : Disable

But no changes with the freezing problem!

Best regards

2010-12-28 Thread damaan
I'm also affected by this bug. I have a Core i7, an SSD and an Nvidia
Quadro FX 880M. Things looked good with the Noveau driver, but when
switching to the non-free Nvidia driver I get the ugly non-themed look.
The workaround in #68 seems to solve the problem, and the warning about
multiple xsettings managers is no longer written to my .xsession-errors
file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-28 Thread Richard Merren
With the 1.1.1 version installed on my HP Pavilion dv7, the two fingered
scroll is now available and works like a charm! The right-button patch
from bug #582809 doesn't appear to be compatible, but I haven't tried
installing the right button patch first and then this package. I do not
have a working right button. Jumpiness appears to be gone as well,
though if both palms rub the touchpad while typing it does scroll. The
sensitivity seems to be better as well.

I need to play with the settings (xinput list-props 'SynPS/2 Synaptics
TouchPad') to see if there is some improvement to be had, but generally
this works great.

One other item: I do not have click and drag. I can double-tap (e.g. on
a window title bar) and drag it around, but I cannot click the left
button with one finger and drag around with the other. I am sure I will
find a combo of settings that works well, though.

The missing items are worth it to be able to type without the cursor
jumping around! (Though with current settings it still picks up a palm
as a click and moves the cursor occasionally.)

To others reading: if you try this it is helpful to post your results,
including your laptop model info, so that fellow trackpad sufferers
googling for an answer can find this bug.

Great work...thanks, Henrik!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-28 Thread Richard Merren
One final note on right-button functionality and then I stop bugging
you: The strip across the bottom area of my trackpad is a button.
Clicking anywhere on that button (right or left) with one finger is a
left-click and clicking anywhere with two fingers is a right click.
Theoretically, clicking with three fingers is a middle click, but I
haven't tested this.

The upshot is that this patch enabling multitouch has given me full
functionality on the trackpad. I will raise a glass to Henrik at my
next opportunity.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 312756] Re: MASTER: support graphics card hot switch

2010-12-28 Thread Joerg-Volker Peetz
Trying to enable hybrid graphics on a HP Pavilion DV7-4142eg:

dmidecode -s system-product-name; dmidecode -s system-version
HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
058B11242B1020100

lspci -vnnn | perl -lne 'print if /^\d+\:.+(\[\S+\:\S+\])/' | grep VGA
01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility
Radeon HD 4200] [1002:9712] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan
[Mobility Radeon HD 5000 Series] [1002:68e0] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

Using a self-compiled kernel 2.6.36.2, the dmesg says

VGA switcheroo: detected switching method \_SB_.PCI0.AGP_.VGA_.ATPX
handle

but using the acpi call method results in kernel Oops

Please find attached the DSDT table.

By the way, it is not possible to change the display brightness via the
keyboard buttons for this purpose.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-12-28 Thread Robin Stocker
Also affected with a Core i7, an SSD and an Nvidia GeForce GTS 450
(proprietary driver). The workaround in comment #68 (sleep) fixes it for
me too. Here's two lines from .xsession-errors when it doesn't work
(with the workaround, these lines do not appear):

** (gnome-settings-daemon:1641): WARNING **: You can only run one
xsettings manager at a time; exiting

** (gnome-settings-daemon:1641): WARNING **: Unable to start xsettings
manager: Could not initialize xsettings manager.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 308191] Re: Multitouch support not available for Synaptics touchpads v7.2

2010-12-28 Thread Henrik Rydberg
Glad it works, and thanks for all the reports! There is a path for
clickpads now, although it may be a while before it materializes. It
should be a different bug, anyways, as this bug should soon be marked
fixed. Happy new year!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557065] Re: frozen mouse/ keyboard

2010-12-28 Thread mpaq
Test with UBUNTU 9.10 x64 co-installed with 10.04 on HD : No mouse
freezing problem in 9.10. The update of that distribution did not cause
any problem with the mouse and/or keyboard.

Memory is correctly discovered

PS: this problem must come from a hardware/software conflict as 10.04 is
running on 2 other PC at home and that I've no problem with them (except
bug 499855 on my server, but overturn by xset)

PM:
Motherboard = ASUS P7P55D-E on the machine with mouse freezing problem
Motherboard = ASUS P5KPL-AM EPU on my server

Best regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 695135] [NEW] Screen renders useless / ATI Radeon 2100

2010-12-28 Thread sleipner
Public bug reported:

I've upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 recently, and I am experiencing problems
with my PC which runs an integrated ATI Radeon 2100 display adapter.
After a while (can be everything between some minutes to 1-2 hours) the
display suddenly becomes unreadable, showing white horizontal stripes
all over the screen.

I've tried to shutdown X with Ctrl-Shift-Return, but that didn't work.
I've also managed one time to get the screen blank, with just the cursor
showing (without the stripes) by pressing ESC, but when pressing any
other key, the stripes keep coming back.

The system is still running and responsive, e.g. music playing in the
background and I've managed to do shutdown.

The problem is specific to the 10.10 version, I have not experienced i
before with 10.04, or Windows which runs in a dual boot partition.

Display: Samsung 206BW, 1680x1050.

Are those informations sufficient to figure out what the problem is?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 689761] Re: Half of emacs window missing

2010-12-28 Thread Peter Watkins
I haven't been able to switch to the VESA driver. When I make an
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file to do that, I get this error in my
/var/log/Xorg.*.log:

[21.764] (EE) VESA: Kernel modesetting driver in use, refusing to
load

However, I noticed the emacs problem doesn't seem to occur as the root
user. So I deleted several .* files and directories (settings files and
dirs) in my home directory. After I logged out and logged back in, I no
longer have the emacs display problem. Unfortunately, I didn't delete
them one at a time. I have a back up of them. I'll let you know if I
find the one that caused a problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 657976] Re: [Intel GMA 945/950] Unity Interface Is Extremely Slow (Ubuntu Netbook 10.10)

2010-12-28 Thread Alexandre Santos
Hi guys,

Just wanted to mention that I installed ubuntu netbook 10.10 (meerkat?)
in my wife's Asus Eee 1000HE and Unity was also slow and unstable.
Inserting CLUTTER_VBLANK=none in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/10unity-quirks
solved the problem, now Unity is snappy and shows a more consistent
behavior.
