[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696729] [NEW] Crash in _nv026629rm+0x44/0x176 [nvidia]

2011-01-03 Thread Nils Gladitz
Public bug reported:

After a 2.6.35 kernel update my laptop seemed to hang when X was about to start.
I'm using nvidia-current (260.19.06-0ubuntu1) [Ubuntu 10.10 maverick].
I could remote login via ssh and got the following dmesg output:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696729] Re: Crash in _nv026629rm+0x44/0x176 [nvidia]

2011-01-03 Thread Nils Gladitz
This seems to be related:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2355003
Apparently the 4 users that currently complain about this problem are also
using maverick so it might be ubuntu specific.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696670] Re: HDMI sound output only works if laptop monitor is on

2011-01-03 Thread Øsse
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: xorg
+ Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, fully updated from the regular repositories.

I connect my laptop to an HDTV through HDMI, configuring it through
Preferences - Monitors. I switch sound output to HDMI in System -
Preferences - Sound - Output. This works flawlessly as long as I
somehow use my laptop monitor, meaning that I either mirror the screens
or use an extended desktop. If I turn off the laptop monitor there is no
sound output through the HDMI; turning back on the laptop monitor
restores sound output to the TV. Switching back to the regular output
  device works as expected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 566437] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu2 failed to REMOVE: error exit status 2 - dpkg-divert: mismatch on package - while removing the package

2011-01-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package fglrx-installer - 2:8.801-0ubuntu1

---
fglrx-installer (2:8.801-0ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release 8.801 (10-12).
  * debian/control:
- Add Vcs-Git and Vcs-Browser.
  * debian/fglrx.postrm:
- Do not remove diversions. Those diversions were likely installed by older
releases of the driver (since we don't use diversions any more). Any
diversion should be removed in fglrx.preinst, as it's exactly where we
remove all other diversions (LP: #566437).
  * debian/fglrx.prerm:
- Call dpkg-trigger with --by-package=$PACKAGE_NAME.
  * Add support for blacklisting card ids from GRUB gfxpayload=keep:
- In Natty gfxpayload=keep is set by default so as to provide a framebuffer
early in the boot process. Some cards don't play nicely with it, therefore
we need to blacklist them in a file. The format is a sequence of lines of
  the following form:
vVENDORdDEVICEsvSUBVENDORsdSUBDEVICEbcBASECLASSscSUBCLASS
Blacklist lines are regex-matched against a corresponding PCI ID string.
In practice this means that you can replace any part of the ID string
  with .* to match anything.

Have you tried to change the wireless chanel on your router? That fixed it
for me. Seems interference causes some strange errors.

Good luck

Mark

Bug description:
 Hi,

when I'm watching Zattoo (online tv) my wlan connection dies after a few
minutes. Automatic reconnect is not possible, syslog shows the following
error messages:

ten cases I get the kernel oops I'm reporting here. The Problems are
probably related.

install/activate the current nvidia driver (recomended) but after
about 10 mins of installation the system returned an error. The driver
was installed but not activated (i.e. not in use)

2011-01-03 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2011-01-03 Thread Willem Ligtenberg
@Geir Ove Myhr
How difficult is it to build an Ubuntu kernel package?
Because I still have the machine that had this problem, but I am not really
using it anymore. So it is free for testing. But I fear I already upgraded it
to Maverick. (Is there also a way to build the older kernel in Maverick?)

The current upstream (also present in Natty) works as-is on Lucid, as
can be verified via my own PPA's packages. If this is satisfactory, I
could upload this. if I should instead remain stricter to the SRU

extract essential ones.

Setting to medium priority since it just occurred the one time. Bug
#686388 has similar error code but different gpu dump, probably not
related.

I would like to forward this bug report upstream in case it has value to
them, but need to clarify one thing first.

You said Next day i opened ntb and tried to login into system. Had
the computer been suspended when the lid was closed? Did you enter your
login credentials, and then the screen cleared to black and locked at
that point?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 691037] Re: nvidia-settings window expands to extremely wide size, crashing metacity

2011-01-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
The Gdk-ERROR message in comment #4 is just a standard error that's
printed when an X call fails in a gtk program, it doesn't actually
provide any diagnostic information.

The one issue that might be particular to nvidia-settings is why the
dialog window was so wide to begin with? Did it size itself to that, or
was it adjusted to that with manually? I assume the latter but if not,
that might be worth investigation as an nvidia-settings bug.

But regardless, metacity shouldn't be crashing in this case. I'll
refile against metacity for further analysis.

You might try seeing if you can reproduce the metacity crash with other
gtk programs when resized very wide. Also, you should run apport-
collect 691037 to add required debug info to the bug report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696957] [NEW] Large non-antialiased text causes xserver to abort

2011-01-03 Thread liam2
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Problem:
If I disable font antialiasing and attempt to access

This should not happen. The webpage should simply display the words GOODBYE

pschonmann, ok thanks. Given this is the same hardware as for bug
#694244 I'll dupe them together. Even though the GPU dumps differ, it's
the same hardware and the error code itself is the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 692677] Re: Desktop login to unity leads to hang and compiz crash when X Server Display Confirmation is clicked on

2011-01-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
As per comment #12 I've dropped the patch for now, and re-opened the
original bug report.

Since it sounds like upstream is in process of taking the patch, I guess
there is a potential for the bug to return, so continued efforts to
troubleshoot this patch would not be in vain.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 692187] Re: desktop fails to appear without enabling failsafe graphics first

2011-01-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
Well, there weren't any changes to plymouth in that timeframe. There
was a new -nvidia driver upload on the 18th, however it just changed how
modaliases are installed. There was also several compiz updates to fix
crashes on login. Could be that the now-fixed compiz crashes were the
source of your bug.
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/compiz/+changelog

Anyway, good news that the issue is gone. Feel free to reopen if it
comes back.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)

2011-01-03 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
I have previously used the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/GitKernelBuild . Instead of getting
the vanilla upstream kernel in #2, I would use the drm-intel-next head
from git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ickle/drm-intel.git.
Then you would need to apply the patch before going on. If you have a
faster newer computer, I would recommend building on that one, because
compiling a kernel on the computers that have an 855GM chipset tends to
be slow. You will need to use the 32-bit version of Ubuntu on that
machine, though.

It is probably better to use Maverick than Lucid for testing this. Natty
even better. With Natty, you should be able to steal most of the kernel
configuration from the drm-intel-next mainline build in step 4 (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds).

I haven't done this in quite a while, so I don't remember all there is
to it.

the initrd file... which lives outside the persistent file. Thus the
bug (I think...)

I've made a bunch of installation attempts, but it always fails. Your
suggestion to just disable installation and mark it unsupported sounds
like a reasonable solution to me.

Ah, Sarvatt pointed out it must have been taken from nvidia.com, so
would not have DKMS or update-initramfs (I guess because it has no gl?)
So unfortunately I don't think knowledge about .29 installation helps
diagnose this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu

2011-01-03 Thread Phillip Whelan
It has been proposed that we share the QGLContext. I have seen the code
which is disabled for now. It is actually sharing a QGLWidget. This does
not necessarily share the underlying QGLContext, as is explained here:

-QGLContext-and-sharing-a-QGLWidget

Just thought I'd jot that information down here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 669417] Re: [Intel GMA500] Visual glitches and crash (Maverick and Natty)

2011-01-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
I'm not sure whether we can support Poulsbo due to the drivers not
providing the features that we need.

Poulsbo also is not being actively supported by its vendor any longer,
and since its 3D component is closed source proprietary, that limits the
support that can be done at the distro level. It's questionable how
much general developer time is worth investing into issues related to
this driver (although it could make sense for oem projects).

EMGD I gather requires xserver 1.8, which we did not package for any
ubuntu release. There might be a PPA around with it. I'm not sure
short of retrograding our xserver back to 1.8 that we can provide this
driver for ubuntu. Hopefully this time Intel will actively support EMGD
and put out a release for xserver 1.9 or 1.10 that we can use.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 604525] Re: nvidia-settings Configure Display Device menu should be drop-down list instead of dialog box

2011-01-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
I've reverted this patch from nvidia-settings, since it appears to be causing a
regression (bug #692677).
It sounds like this is a worthwhile patch though, and I'm reopening the bug so
we don't lose track of it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 448719] Re: cannot switch users - using dual screens

2011-01-03 Thread Rainfly_X
I'm not the original poster either and this problem is most definitely
NOT fixed for me. I'm currently running Natty. I used to have a dual-
screen setup, but I've had to sacrifice one of those monitors to set up
an old computer as a server and see what I was doing while working with
a laptop with a fractured screen. I have restarted for various reasons
since the first instance of this bug but it persists.

This is especially an issue since my proselytizing for Ubuntu rings a
little hollow when my OS can't even switch between users.
