Also running Compiz-fusion built into Ubuntu. Problem: Lots of websites that seem to use Javascript/Ajax heavy scripts run VERY slow with NVIDIA drivers. This appears to be a Firefox issue because I can run Opera, WebKit based browsers, etc and there is NO issue in Linux. Only Firefox. Example websites: http://www.shacknews.com (during the main image transition to a new one the browser slows to a crawl and wont even scroll) http://www.slashdot.org (when scrolling to button the new ajax page reload slows browser down) Tons of websites have this problem with the Firefox 3.0/3.5 + NVIDIA drivers. Those are just 2 test sites. I have tried a hack suggested on Ubuntu's bug page(with same bug): nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 But it really does nothing. There is a long running bug page on Ubuntu's website that could be helpful to devs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223238 Please Help! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run Linux with newest NVIDIA 180 drivers 2. Run Compiz-fusion 3. Run Firefox 3.0 or 3.5 with any of the websites listed Actual Results: SLW performance. Seems to be javascript/AJAX related. Expected Results: Normal fast performance as seen with other web browsers. Also on Slashdot where you goto the bottom of the page during its reload (where it loads more of the website) it loads very slow. MUCH slower than Windows. There are many other websites that have issues too on the Ubuntu bug page for the same issue here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/223238 Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/223238/comments/60 On 2009-04-29T04:42:35+00:00 Kevin Brosnan wrote: I don't see any issue on Slashdot when using their continuous page besides the obvious reflowing of the document as content gets added. In case you are not familiar with how to add patches to and compile source code, here is a copy of the program for Ubuntu than you can simply run to test this patch. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 701044] [NEW] Semi-frequent freezes in nouveau
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau One or more times a week my computer display freezes. I can still move the mouse, but the screen doesn't update. I think nouveau driver enters an infinite loop and consumes 100% CPU. I think the X0rg.0.log confirms this, but I only installed debug symbols today. This happens semi regularly, so I can provide more information if needed: $ sudo gdb -p 1188 GNU gdb (GDB) 7.2-ubuntu Copyright (C) 2010 Free Software Foundation, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 626974] Re: ABI change in xorg 1.9 breaks legacy nvidia-96 drivers in Maverick
Still no released fix for this bug!!! My Ubuntu has been unusable for 3 months now! Starts only to command prompt after upgrading to Maverick. I do not want to go back to playing with command prompt/scripts/whatever of the (very) old MS-DOS days. A computer is a tool for me, not a toy to play with. Quote from Ubuntu pages: Users of the official release, in contrast, expect a high degree of stability. They use their Ubuntu system for their day-to-day work, and problems they experience with it can be extremely disruptive. Many of them are less experienced with Ubuntu and with Linux, and expect a reliable system which does not require their intervention. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-96 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626974 Title: ABI change in xorg 1.9 breaks legacy nvidia-96 drivers in Maverick ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 544496] Re: [RS100] desktop became slow after upgrading to Lucid
My card uses 64MB of RAM also. The driver disables EXA pixmaps if the video RAM is 32MB or less. I'm wondering if this should be changed to 64MB or possibly more. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 665546] Re: Drop and sub menus don't always show up
I'm having the same problem. My system is Ubuntu Maverick amd64. I'm not using compiz but using metacity with composite enabled. The problem is the same as those described by other people. I also tried running metacity with compiz, the problem is still there. My current graphics driver is a proprietary driver downloaded from ati. But under a clean installation(right after I installed maverick amd64 without using any proprietary driver), the problem is still the same. Acutally I downloaded the ati driver in the hope of solving this problem, but it doesn't help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665546 Title: Drop and sub menus don't always show up ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
