[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 664646] Re: system cannot display extended desktop on Samsung 2333sw

2011-01-12 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
If you're happy with the upgrade to 10.10 and the monitors work properly
in 10.10 then I think we can mark this as resolved.

If you'd prefer to have it fixed in 10.04 then we will need your help to
gather data. This would involve testing just the kernel from 10.10 on
10.04 and then just the -ati X driver from 10.10 on 10.04 to see what
fixed it, and then trying to narrow the change that fixes it down
further.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702017] [NEW] display corruption on upgrade to 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7.1

2011-01-12 Thread D Gilder
Public bug reported:

After this upgrade, I had the following problems:
1. A particular letter would be missing, or replaced by a strange symbol on a
web page (using Firefox.)
2. Tabs in firefox and nautilus would have repeated horizontal patterns in them.
3. Directory icons in nautilus would be replaced by thin horizontal lines, but
would reappear on mouse over.

All this behaviour has gone away since I reverted to 2:1.9.0-0ubuntu7

Some information reported using ubuntu-bug will not be relevant because
I had reverted to version 7 before I ran this program.

I've uploaded the patch to upstream:

Possibly upstream will prefer fixing this bug some other way, but I
think the null pointer check makes the most sense for now.

* Is this reproducible?

Can you try to upgrade again and attach a screenshot of the issue? Is
there any warning or error during the upgrade?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 318325] Re: [X1100] flickering after resume from ram

2011-01-12 Thread Axel Kellermann
I can also reproduce the flickering after resume from RAM on my Acer
TravelMate 4002 laptop under Kubuntu 10.10. On my hardware
configuration, the flickering is not dependent on CPU load, the infinite
loop mentioned in the original post doesn't solve the problem for me.

Laptop: Acer TravelMate 4002 LMi
Graphics card : ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (r300)
System : Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick)
Video driver : radeon

If you need more info, just let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 693417] Re: maverick unknown screen and external monitor not detected

2011-01-12 Thread Ian Dimond
I am seeing the same problem on my Sony Vaio PCG-TR2 laptop with
external VGA monitor. The screen is duplicated at the laptop resolution
(1280 x 768) and so only fills the top part of my external LCD display,
which has a resolution of 1280x1024. Only one monitor, Unknown,
appears in monitor preferences and I can not change the resolution, as
only 1280x768 is available. Hitting detect monitors doesn't help.

The same setup worked fine some time ago when I was running Ubuntu 9.10.
I am now running Ubuntu 10.10

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702090] Re: i965gm GPU lockup 5c30d2fd EIR: 0x00000010

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Heya Travis,

Yeah looks like the GPU got screwed early on in the boot and so wasn't
in a usable state when X started up. The IntelGpuDump.txt file just
shows all registers cleared (set to NOOP), and generic error codes. I'd
suggest debugging the plymouth troubles first (see cjwatson). If it
freezes and pops up apport again in the future, go ahead and keep filing
the X bugs to xorg and we'll keep checking the gpu dumps in case
something debuggable on the X side comes up.

Before we close this out though, one question - have you encountered
this bug more than once or know others having the same problem?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661327] Re: User interface stutters / laggy when mouse NOT moving

2011-01-12 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi larson.eri...@gmail.com,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach
updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 661327

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702090] Re: i965gm GPU lockup 5c30d2fd EIR: 0x00000010

2011-01-12 Thread Travis Watkins
I have seen this symptom more than once but this is the first time I've
had apport enabled and had it happen so I do not know if those other
boots were the same problem. Bug 627011 is concerning the macbook model
before mine but it seems likely this is a dupe of that one so there are
other people having the issue. I didn't initially add to that bug
because I wanted to make sure we were having the same problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 701757] Re: Natty Alpha 1 black screen with intel driver

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 541492 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541492

Heya Jerry!

So here is the situation with i8xx. In current natty it is known-
broken, and at this time is not considered one of our actively supported
hardware platforms (which means we are not going to work on bugs on this
hw any further.)

But there's some good news! Upstream is actively working on 8xx bugs,
and has some kernel patches and other patches to enable the hardware
with the -intel driver. Please see:

   https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187

The upstream guys probably would really appreciate having participation
from a regular i8xx tester, as you've been here at Ubuntu, so I would
strongly encourage you to join the discussions upstream both on that bug
report, and also on the #intel-gfx IRC channel and/or mailing lists.

My hope is that once these patches get adequately tested and validated,
they'll get accepted upstream. Once they've gone upstream we'll be able
to resume providing support for the 8xx hardware in Ubuntu.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 670016] Re: [SRU] Xorg crashes when performing gesture

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
As per the bug description the patch being proposed is for maverick
only, there isn't really an associated task for natty. (For natty, once
xserver 1.10 goes in, there'll be entirely new code to provide the
feature so this patch isn't relevant there.) Closing the natty task,
leaving a maverick task.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 542814] Re: [RV250] Xorg assert failure: /usr/bin/X: realloc(): invalid pointer: 0x096a6dd0 after calling xf86Wakeup ()

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Given no response to our calls for testing over the past year, I'm going
to go ahead and close this out. Perhaps we can optimistically assume
the lack of response indicates the issue indeed went away?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 525066] Re: x11vnc able to segfault xorg

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Sheng,

Thanks for providing the detailed backtrace. Looks like it's a stack
overflow in the client callback code when the client disappeared. The
leftover callback resulted in an endless loop.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Lots of discussion over at:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=965695

But the gist of it is, x11vnc is able to segfault xorg. Quite simple to
reproduce. Find a victim machine and boot it up to the gdm login
prompt. Then ssh into the machine and run:

  # DISPLAY=:0 x11vnc

(notice logged in as root) and then connect with a vnc client. Try to
log in and very quickly the vnc connection will be closed and when you
reconnect you will be at a new login prompt. That's because the last
X11 server crashed. Check out /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old on the victim
  machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 415357] Re: [gm45] Xorg consistently crashing when using some applications

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
As we haven't heard from anyone in several months, I'm closing the bug
as expired (believed fixed).

If anyone can reproduce this on Natty, feel free to file a new bug,
using apport or 'ubuntu-bug xorg'. Please also be sure to collect a new
full backtrace - apport does this automatically some times, or see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for manual directions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 389519] Re: Cursor can move off-screen when dual-monitors do not form rectangular area

2011-01-12 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
There's a patch by Adam Jackson on xorg-devel to constrain the cursor
when all CRTCs are reachable which would resolve this bug. I've given
it a review, but it was before the holidays and so may have been missed
in all the absences.

I'll push this along.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 332100] Re: wine fullscreen app makes X server crash on jaunty

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Based on the progression of the comments it sounds to us like the
original issue here went away, but folks with vaguely similar (but
unrelated) issues are joining this one, however unfortunately since
they've not posted their backtraces this (allegedly) new crash bug can't
be investigated.

@Panta and Jeremy, please review http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing,
reproduce your bug, and file a *new* bug report. Either let apport file
it automatically, or file it manually by collecting 'bt full' in gdb and
then using 'ubuntu-bug xorg'.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 296122] Re: XNEST crashes in X_PolyFillRectangle with error config/hal: NewInputDeviceRequest failed

2011-01-12 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Graham, sorry you're having an XNest problem. While your symptoms
may seem identical to the original bug report, since the original bug
report was verified as fixed, my guess would be you're seeing an
unrelated bug that just happens to fail in a similar fashion. HAL is no
longer present in Maverick so you wouldn't be getting an identical error
message.

In fact XNEST is largely deprecated in favor of Xephyr. I would
recommend using xephyr instead. If you have trouble with it, please
seek out technical support at http://askubuntu.com
