[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 579071] Re: savage_drv fails drawpix glDrawPixels demo/test/benchmark

2011-01-20 Thread Tormod Volden
Well, since I uploaded the lucid packages to my PPA (I added maverick
also), you could just have installed those instead of the gallium and
libdrm packages from the radeon PPA.

However I have seen that this fix is not enough, after sleep/resume the
back buffer is wrong again. You can switch between front and back buffer
with the 'f' key in drawpix. When everything works, they should give the
same result, just that drawing to the front buffer may give you some
flicker if you for instance keep the picture moving by holding the up or
down button.

You mentioned that it worked fine in 8.04, I will try that out also.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 687738] Re: nvidia driver shows magnet distortion-like screen corruption and tearing, particularly when switching workspaces

2011-01-20 Thread Didier Roche
@Bryce, yeah, that's one of the first sync I've done in December, with
no result.

So Sam really think there is something in nux making the refresh out of
sync (and maybe related now to the other bug with the black screen),
I'll subscribe jay to it as well.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 636246] Re: Can't drag anything after I click on it.

2011-01-20 Thread Bastanteroma
Just noticed that I can drag things if I use my trackpoint instead of my
touchpad. This reminded me that I use the buttons associated with the
trackpoint because the ones associated witth the touchpad are physically
broken. So that's maybe a clue. This was testing today's daily build.

Inspiron 1545

I have the same laptop model (Inspiron 1545), which I bought from Dell
with Ubuntu 9.10 pre-installed. Everything worked until the touchpad
broke in late November 2010. However, my symptoms are slightly
different: I can't use the right touchpad button but can move the
cursor. Tapping is extremely sensitive and can't be disabled. See my bug
report:

I can confirm that the maximize function is no longer functioning when

swapping works fine for me. Even with desktop effects enabled, a reboot
or possibly a new login will have maximize working again.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2011-01-20 Thread George
Marco: it might be a duplicate, but I can't be sure. In my case, and in the
case of most users who have initiated this thread, the bug *is* 100%
reproducible and can never be fixed with a re-login or reboot. So the
description for bug #574296 is an inaccurate description of my problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 705492] [NEW] 2 Screens on 2nd Video Card are suddenly distorted

2011-01-20 Thread enobrev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

As of an update yesterday afternoon, the 2 screens attached to the DVI
ports on my 2nd video card are distorted. The desktop wallpaper shows
up alright, but if I open / drag any windows on those screens, the
contents of the windows turn blank (or don't show) and the chrome gets
completely distorted (or doesn't show as well). The only application
that shows the window contents is netbeans.

My configuration has been working fine for my 2-card / 3-monitor setup
for months.

I've attached a screenshot showing what I'm describing and here's my

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2011-01-20 Thread TheSpoon
This bug affects me too. It started affecting me yesterday, when I
upgraded my Core2 E6600 machine to Core i7 2600K. Ubuntu is installed on
an SSD, but the SSD is not new. There was no issue with Core2 + SSD.

I did a clean install (10.10 64-bit) and the issue persists. But unlike
many posters here, the fix suggested in comment #68 does not help me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585034] Re: ATI Radeon 9600 problem using ubuntu-supported driver

2011-01-20 Thread JThoennes
Hi Bruce,

I am also seeing this kind of behaviour with latests Ubuntu Maverick 10.10.
The screen gets fuzzy, only the mouse pointer stays ok and can be moved.

Switching to virtual console works, but many message as

[drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Faild to schedule IB !
[drm:radeon_ib_schedule] *ERROR* radeon: couldn't schedule IB(3).
...

appear.

Could this be possibly fixed by an newer ATI Radeon driver from the
Maverick PPA repository?

Thanks, Jörg

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585034] Re: ATI Radeon 9600 problem using ubuntu-supported driver

2011-01-20 Thread JThoennes
Shall I switch AGP mode from 8 down to 4 or less or to -1 to get around
this?

What else could help here?

I am running in 1920 x 1080 resolution with BenQ E2220 HD monitor. Using the
DVI-D port,
the screen also get sometimes blank (for 3-5 seconds) as if the monitor
resyncs. With VGA,
this does not happen.

The issue seems to occur for some flash pages in firefox. If I iconize firefox,
then the blanking issue stops.
Is this related or shall I open a new bug?

Thanks, Jörg

2011-01-20 Thread Phil-ganchev
It might be the same bug, but only if your computer does not recognize
your touchpad, in which case it's not a bug in xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics but either in the Linux kernel or in udev. To check how it's
recognized, could you run these commands and post the output:

sudo tpconfig -i

cat /proc/bus/input/devices

xinput --list

This is almost certainly a dupe of 705078, the backtraces and log output
leading up to the crash is nearly identical. Thanks for filing it
separately though, as it gives us additional hw data to compare against.

2011-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
The above is making me wonder if this is just a symptom of something
that changed in the kernel.

Could you please provide a bit more context behind this crash? Was this
the first time you tested natty livecd install on this hw, or have you
been doing regular test installs up until now and it only regressed on
this version? Have you experienced other instances of this X crash but
only these two triggered apport? Have you run ubuntu on this hw
previously, meaning that this is a regression - if so what version(s)
successfully ran on it? Were you able to complete this particular
installation, and if so what did you do to work around it? If not, have
you attempted installation of a different snapshot? Any other
information you can provide which may help narrow down the source of
this issue?

without freeze. The freeze was also gone with the old packages. I can't exactly
tell you whether it is the same problem or not since apport crashed too before
it showed the description. But i found a crash report in /var/crash/ which i
add as attachment.

hopefully that helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 705078] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in pixman_image_set_has_client_clip()

2011-01-20 Thread Mario Limonciello
Hi Bryce,

Natty live CD install's haven't been functional for about a week, but
they were working fine on both of the pieces of hardware that i've filed
bugs on.

Ubuntu's ran successfully with previous versions (10.10 and 10.04) on
both pieces of hardware. I was able to complete the installation by
forcing it to run in vesa and nomodeset.

And to be clear (probably should have reread before posting).

* Natty live cds from a week ago worked, but there haven't been any live
cds up until a few days ago

* I was able to successfully install 10.10 and 10.04 on both pieces of
hardware without workarounds. Same as the natty builds from ~1 week
ago. It's very recent that I have to use xforcevesa/nomodeset

Hmm, ok that's very interesting information.

There was a fix to mesa I posted to mesa for bug 681915 within the past
week, but otherwise there haven't been any significant X changes in this
time period.

Might be some change elsewhere in the system is triggering the X crash?
Sure would be nice to have a more complete backtrace.

Is there any chance we could have you do a reinstall and hook gdb to X
to get a full backtrace on this? If not, I've posted a bug to apport
to get the retracer issue investigated.

It can't hurt.

Word from Intel is they don't want to look at the bug until it's been
confirmed against their Q4 release. So we may have to just backburner
this bug for a while until we get a chance to package the Q4 bits
(unless you'd like to try building and running them manually).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685682] Re: [fglrx] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::IOpenGLSurface::UnlockRect()

2011-01-20 Thread Bryce Harrington
Response from AMD on the question of t_f_p support.
Please review and indicate if compiz/unity is dependent on something this list
shows as not supported?

--
We support texture_from_pixmap in direct rendering mode (mutter uses
this as we discussed before), and all of the limitations for direct
rendering are the same as indirect rendering as far as I know, some of
the limitations I know are:

1. Compiz can not run in direct mode, because we uses some X functions
in our driver, like XOpenDisplay in ADL which will cause soft hang for
compiz uses XGrabServer.

2. The spec allows:
Accepted by the Buffer parameter of glXBindTexImageEXT and
glXReleaseTexImageEXT:

But we only support GLX_FRONT_LEFT_EXT now.

3. Applications can specify the texture format according to spec, but
the pixmap format is BGRA in most of the time, so if app specifies non
BGRA format, corruption will occur. Unfortunately compiz does like this.
Current implementation is to use the format determined by depth
internally regardless the app specified format. It seems that NV doesn't
allow app to use GLX_TEXTURE_FORMAT_RGBA, and only
GLX_TEXTURE_FORMAT_RGB is allowed, otherwise X error is reported.

4. X coordinate system are different from OpenGL coordinate system, we
workaround the Y inverted issue currently, the difficulty is how to tell
glTexImage2D and glTexSubImage2D about the Y inverted info when they are
used by GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap.

5. No mipmap support, No TEXTURE_1D support

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685682] Re: [fglrx] compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in nux::IOpenGLSurface::UnlockRect()

2011-01-20 Thread Travis Watkins
Off the top of my head we use XGrabServer in various places and if the
driver supports NPOT textures we use mipmapping. This list is obviously
incorrect as if these limitations really applied you could not use the
fglrx texture_from_pixmap implementation to actually write a compositor.
I wouldn't trust anything it says.

Hi Bryce,

I was running a Live install from the natty-desktop-i386.iso built on
20-Jan-2011. As Ubuntu was booting a dialog box appeared stating that my HW
was not able to support Unity and gave me the option of choosing the Classic
User session. I chose this option and Ubuntu came up. Immediately I began
to get dialog boxes stating that various applications had unexpectedly quit
and could be reloaded. The following apps issued the unexpected exit
dialogs:
Show Desktop
Window List
Workspace switcher
Trash

Indication Applet
Indication Applet Session
Clock

Clock SEGV'd and this was where the error reporting began.

My HW is an Intel Atom based motherboard. Here are the details
