[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711605] [NEW] Random characters are being replaced by a filled square
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Random characters (in all apps) are being replaced by filled squares, and every time I enter a new session, it changes. I'm using compiz, compositing and radeon driver (all ubuntu default). Currently, I'm on a dual-head system, with a HD4870 as VGA. Also, I didn't noticed any evident reports on logs. Important! I had the EXACTLY same bug on Debian Lenny, from which I migrated some days ago. Apparently it started after I switched from fglrx to radeon, but I'm not sure. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711093] Re: [Natty, Maverick, Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop LCD powered off
Additional comment from linux thinkpad mailing list participant Alex Deucher: "I think this may be a logic issue in gnome power manager (GPM) rather than the driver. If the following commands executed from a terminal blank the displays properly: sleep 5; xset dpms force off then the driver is working correctly. I have similar issues on fedora on a w500 with AMD gaphics, so I suspect it's a GPM issue." I can confirm running that command makes the external monitor sleep. Given Alex is seeing the problem on a Thinkpad with a discrete AMD display, he is probably correct -- this bug probably needs to be assigned to another package, perhaps Gnome Power Manager. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711093 Title: [Natty,Maverick,Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop LCD powered off ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Looks like you still have -nvidia installed according to your report. -nvidia itself needs updated to work with the new X stack so will be uninstallable for a while. Remove it entirely then try the upgrade again. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711336 Title: package xserver-xorg-core 2:1.9.0.902-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: installing xserver-xorg-core would break existing software ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 186103] Re: [K8M800] Panel on K8M800 is not supported (Averatec 3280)
As of today, there has been a regression: in the absence of an xorg.conf file, the initial resolution is again set to 1600x1200. It's possible to use the Monitors dialog to set the res. to 1024x768, but before that is done, the login screen's bottom panel is inaccessible, so that the GUI mode can't be set. I am now using xorg.conf again, but this is not a good solution, as it requires an expert to create it. I'm attaching a tar file with a list of current packages, xorg.conf, and various versions of Xorg.0.log, with and without xorg.conf. Note that by the time I saved the Xorg.0.* files, I had already set the screen res with the Monitors dialog. ** Attachment added: "package versions and xorg.conf and Xorg.0.* logs" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/186103/+attachment/1822603/+files/bug2011-02-01.tar -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186103 Title: [K8M800] Panel on K8M800 is not supported (Averatec 3280) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
