Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709641] Re: package nvidia-current 260.19.06-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Oh, my mistake I suppose. I mistakenly thought that running the system from the Ubuntu USB key was like running an installed system on a key and not in live mode. I thought that running from a USB key, unlike what happens when you run live from a CD-ROM, you could save changes to your environment. 2011/1/30 Alberto Milone alberto.mil...@canonical.com Sorry but you can't install proprietary graphics drivers on a live system as that would involve updating the initramfs and rebooting, which you can't do unless you install the system. My suggestion is to install Ubuntu on a usb device (such as a usb hard disk or a usb key that is big enough) and then install the driver there. This way you should be able to use the Nvidia driver from the live system. ** Changed in: nvidia-drivers-ubuntu Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709641 Title: package nvidia-current 260.19.06-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Status in NVIDIA Drivers Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I'm running my new ubuntu 10.10 usbkey purchased from Canonical on my acer aspire computer (not installing) Quadrapassel does not start, proprietary drivers were suggested but install failed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 209018] Re: thinkpad R30 resolution problem / trident cyberblade 1l
Confirm repeated with Xubuntu 10.10 on Toshiba Tecra 8200 (Trident CyberBlade/XP). Xorg -configure segfaults, which may explain default to 800x600. Attached Xorg.99.log shows the backtrace after failing to open /dev/fb0. Attached xorg.conf restores the correct default and choice of resolutions. It seems to be important to set XAA rather than EXA acceleration (= blank screen). ** Attachment added: Bad Xorg -configure log (99), good xorg.conf, log of good. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-trident/+bug/209018/+attachment/1821670/+files/Xorg-T8200.zip -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-trident in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/209018 Title: thinkpad R30 resolution problem / trident cyberblade 1l ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711093] Re: [Natty, Maverick, Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop lid closed
A clarification: when I say the bug does not occur when the laptop lid is open, I should have added the important proviso that the laptop LCD panel should be an active display in addition to the external monitor. That is, both displays must be displaying the desktop. It is not important which mode is used, i.e. whether Same image in all monitors is checked in the Gnome Monitor Preferences or not. If the lid is merely open but the laptop LCD is powered off, the bug occurs. ** Summary changed: - [Natty,Maverick,Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop lid closed + [Natty,Maverick,Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop LCD powered off -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711093 Title: [Natty,Maverick,Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop LCD powered off ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711296] Re: package xserver-xorg-core 2:1.9.0.902-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: installing xserver-xorg-core would break existing software
Hi Mark (and reporters of dupes), This is an expected (and good) thing. Since a new xserver went in yesterday, all the drivers needed rebuilt against the new ABI else they'd totally hose up your system. So while those builds were under way, xserver would refuse to install itself and give this error message. By now the builds are done and propagated to most of the mirrors. (There might be some slower mirrors out there still working at it, but the main mirrors should be done). Can you all re-update and re-upgrade and report here as you have success? If you still have trouble upgrading, please paste in the error output. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711296 Title: package xserver-xorg-core 2:1.9.0.902-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: installing xserver-xorg-core would break existing software ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 186103] Re: [K8M800] Panel on K8M800 is not supported (Averatec 3280)
As of today, there has been a regression: in the absence of an xorg.conf file, the initial resolution is again set to 1600x1200. It's possible to use the Monitors dialog to set the res. to 1024x768, but before that is done, the login screen's bottom panel is inaccessible, so that the GUI mode can't be set. I am now using xorg.conf again, but this is not a good solution, as it requires an expert to create it. I'm attaching a tar file with a list of current packages, xorg.conf, and various versions of Xorg.0.log, with and without xorg.conf. Note that by the time I saved the Xorg.0.* files, I had already set the screen res with the Monitors dialog. ** Attachment added: package versions and xorg.conf and Xorg.0.* logs https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/+bug/186103/+attachment/1822603/+files/bug2011-02-01.tar -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186103 Title: [K8M800] Panel on K8M800 is not supported (Averatec 3280) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Looks like you still have -nvidia installed according to your report. -nvidia itself needs updated to work with the new X stack so will be uninstallable for a while. Remove it entirely then try the upgrade again. ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711336 Title: package xserver-xorg-core 2:1.9.0.902-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: installing xserver-xorg-core would break existing software ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711093] Re: [Natty, Maverick, Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop LCD powered off
Additional comment from linux thinkpad mailing list participant Alex Deucher: I think this may be a logic issue in gnome power manager (GPM) rather than the driver. If the following commands executed from a terminal blank the displays properly: sleep 5; xset dpms force off then the driver is working correctly. I have similar issues on fedora on a w500 with AMD gaphics, so I suspect it's a GPM issue. I can confirm running that command makes the external monitor sleep. Given Alex is seeing the problem on a Thinkpad with a discrete AMD display, he is probably correct -- this bug probably needs to be assigned to another package, perhaps Gnome Power Manager. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/711093 Title: [Natty,Maverick,Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop LCD powered off ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
