2011-02-01 Thread Erick Brunzell
Just had this appear iso-testing i386 Alpha 2. It appeared along with
bug 652916 and bug 702898 during installation just as the Keyboard
layout screen opened.

No idea if the three are in any way related.

ah, no, sorry - that's line 408 in the unpatched source. The line in

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711605] [NEW] Random characters are being replaced by a filled square

2011-02-01 Thread Bernardo Donadio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Random characters (in all apps) are being replaced by filled squares, and every
time I enter a new session, it changes.
I'm using compiz, compositing and radeon driver (all ubuntu default).
Currently, I'm on a dual-head system, with a HD4870 as VGA. Also, I didn't
noticed any evident reports on logs.

Important! I had the EXACTLY same bug on Debian Lenny, from which I
migrated some days ago. Apparently it started after I switched from
fglrx to radeon, but I'm not sure.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711591] [NEW] does not detect resolution corectly

2011-02-01 Thread zeruke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

this is probably a known issue...but xorg chooses wrong resolution on
live discs which causes bad graphical issues untill you figure out how
to get the resolution lower.for me it used to be were i could figure
it out but it seems now i cant because its really messed up as shown on
the jpeg i added

and usually it does the same after installing which really causes
problems so it might be good to put it as safe graphics by default.

this one shown on the screenshot is from the 31-Jan-2011 daily live
using a cell phone camera

yeah go ahead and use the -f option if it says to.

A couple of my systems showed that (I figure because I had some self-

Comment #5 suggests this bug is caused by the recent sync of glew from

Fwiw, probably not a bug in xserver-xorg-video-intel, since yesterday's
update was just a no-change rebuild; the last actual change was last
Thursday.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709505] Re: fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel

2011-02-01 Thread emperor
Don't think it's related but the day this got released my Natty stopped
working. Tried everything, all kernels, fallback settings for x,
reconfiguring my xserver to use radeon instead, removing fglrx (I could
start without x) and so on. Nothing worked - back to 10.10 for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711093] Re: [Natty, Maverick, Lucid] External monitor connected w/ Display Port power management not working when laptop LCD powered off

2011-02-01 Thread Damon Lynch
Additional comment from linux thinkpad mailing list participant Alex
Deucher:

"I think this may be a logic issue in gnome power manager (GPM) rather
than the driver. If the following commands executed from a terminal
blank the displays properly:
sleep 5; xset dpms force off
then the driver is working correctly. I have similar issues on fedora
on a w500 with AMD gaphics, so I suspect it's a GPM issue."

I can confirm running that command makes the external monitor sleep.

Given Alex is seeing the problem on a Thinkpad with a discrete AMD
display, he is probably correct -- this bug probably needs to be
assigned to another package, perhaps Gnome Power Manager.

Unity related. Hopefully this bug will get fixed very soon. I have
decided to install Unity 2D as a workaround for now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614993] Re: 10.04 -> 10.10 upgrade fails: pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks: xserver-xorg-video-v4l demoted to universe

2011-02-01 Thread Nick Fankhauser
So if you've landed on this thread looking for a solution suitable for a
newby, here's what worked for me without needing a command line or great
knowledge:

Open "Ubuntu Software Center"

Click on "Installed Software"

Search for "nvidia"

Remove all resulting packages except for "jockey-gtk" and "jockey-
common" (remember them in case you want to reinstall after the upgrade)

Try the upgrade again.

This worked to get me from Lynx to Meercat when I ran into the errors
described above.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 327963] Re: Error activating XKB configuration with MacBook keyboard model

upstream did not take the patch as it appears to have not been a full
fix.

Hmm, this should probably be forwarded upstream as the next step.
Betting that both the blinking and the phantom output are related.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709664] Re: Using Bluetooth mouse causes display to unrecoverably die

2011-02-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
We've uploaded a new X stack yesterday. Would you mind testing with
this new stack (the xserver version in your /var/log/Xorg.0.log should
be 1.9.99.xxx) and if it still occurs, run 'apport-collect 709664' so we
have the most up to date logs?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711396] [NEW] segfault in nux::IOpenGLFrameBufferObject::Deactivate

2011-02-01 Thread Travis Watkins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After the latest X/driver updates compiz runs but if you enable the
unityshell plugin you get a crash in nux while it tries to setup FBOs.
It looks like nux is unable to setup the FBO (intel issue) then crashes
while trying to clean up afterward (nux issue). I've attached my compiz
crash log.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711336] Re: package xserver-xorg-core 2:1.9.0.902-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: installing xserver-xorg-core would break existing software

2011-02-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
Looks like you still have -nvidia installed according to your report.
-nvidia itself needs updated to work with the new X stack so will be
uninstallable for a while. Remove it entirely then try the upgrade
again.

As of today, there has been a regression: in the absence of an xorg.conf
file, the initial resolution is again set to 1600x1200. It's possible to
use the Monitors dialog to set the res. to 1024x768, but before that is
done, the login screen's bottom panel is inaccessible, so that the GUI
mode can't be set. I am now using xorg.conf again, but this is not a
good solution, as it requires an expert to create it.

I'm attaching a tar file with a list of current packages, xorg.conf, and
various versions of Xorg.0.log, with and without xorg.conf. Note that by
the time I saved the Xorg.0.* files, I had already set the screen res
with the Monitors dialog.

** Attachment added: "package versions and xorg.conf and Xorg.0.* logs"
