[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts
@Bryce Harrington: This feature was apparently dropped from the latest Natty release ( 2:1.9.99.901+git20110131.be3be758-0ubuntu1 - http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/x/xorg-server/xorg- server_1.9.99.901+git20110131.be3be758-0ubuntu1/changelog ) by Christopher James Halse Rogers (CCed) with the following comment: * Drop 208_switch_on_release.diff; upstream By upstream I figured it meant Debian (the title of the change was Merge from (unreleased) debian-experimental) and not freedesktop.org - as I know they didn't commit this fix. On the other hand, I looked everywhere and couldn't find any reference of such an upstream release from Debian - and indeed after installing the latest xorg-server, the functionality has disappeared. As such I'm reopening this issue and I hope the patch will come back before Natty is released. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711954] [NEW] Cannot use external monitor at its native resolution
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have a laptop with a native resolution of 1440x900. If I connect my HP w2207h monitor to my laptop via the VGA port and open display properties, then I can mirror at 1440x900 just fine. If I try to have the HP monitor use its native resolution of 1680x1050, then the monitor goes blank (whether or not I turn off the laptop screen). If I try to login with the monitor at 1680x1050 and the LCD off, gdm displays ok, but the monitor flashes a bunch of purple colors and never displays anything (but the LCD does turn off). This was working for a while in natty, but no more. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
Also affects me. Please let me know if there is any debug information I can collect to track this down. It has been happening at least since Lucid, maybe earlier. The behavior I see is as follows: 1) suspend 2) resume 3) often (I think only when running on battery), but this may not be true, I haven't done any direct testing, the mouse and keyboard are responsive for a few seconds, then get very sluggish. Moving the mouse doesn't work for a bit (5-10 seconds), or is slow and jerky if it does respond. 4) after a small amount of time, normal operation resumes My thought was that something that had been swapped out to disk to make room for the resume image needed to get pulled back in for resume, but this seems somewhat counter-intuitive. There was another bug about evdev (#346310, something about EvdevReopenTimer()), maybe that's it? Nothing shows up in dmesg, I wonder what is the best approach for finding out more about this. It seems I'd need to start some logging collection before the suspend and hope it continues after the resume, but obviously if the keyboard and mouse don't respond, it's hard to trap the exact error in gdb or somesuch. Maybe there's a way to run X under valgrind? Hello, Right, I have exactly the same behavior, so I can confirm this bug with Compiz. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660783] Re: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec
From what I'm experiencing, the trackpoint (and associated mouse buttons above the touchpad) is usually what goes first and I'm limited to the trackpad and keyboard. After a few more suspend/resume cycles I'll lose the trackpad, and in some cases, even the keyboard stops responding entirely. I don't believe I got this pre-lucid, and from my experience this isn't related to being on/off battery. Again, let me know if I can provide any data needed to track this down. I'm not sure what is applicable at this point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660783 Title: after suspend: trackpoint and touchpad unresponsive for 5-10 sec ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696995] Re: Sudden Crash out to Login Screen
I believe I am seeing this issue as well within a day after a fresh install of 10.10. I hadn't done too much from the default install, so I thought listing what I had done might be helpful in narrowing down the possibilities. I do not yet have a sequence of events to trigger the issue, but I have only had the system up for 2 days and X has died at least 10 times. My system: Abit AN-M2HD AMD x2 4600+ evga nvidia geforce 210 1) installed from the amd64 alternate 10.10 cd (via usb) 2) updated packages 3) Switched to using nvidia-current 4) Turned off compiz and turned compositing on for metacity (for compatibility with docky) 5) installed vlc, x11vnc, mplayer, smplayer, deluge, deluged, deluge-webui, python-setuptools, flexget, ubuntu-restricted-extras, docky, gnome-do, vdpau-va-driver, filezilla, nautilus-open-terminal, pavucontrol, openssh-server, emacs, cron, vsftp 6) Setup 'echo options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0x102 | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-hdmi.con' (required to make pulseaudio use the right alsa sound device to get audio over hdmi working) 7)) Setup x11vnc to load as root at bootup by adding /usr/bin/x11vnc -auth guess -o /var/log/x11vnc.log -forever -bg -rfbauth /home/belgarth/.vnc/passwd into /etc/gdm/Init/Default 8) Setup Deluged and deluge-webui to load at bootup using the instructions at http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/wiki/UserGuide/InitScript/Ubuntu (including creating a new deluge user) 9) setup flexget to run every 5 seconds via crontab I suspect the issue involves one or more of the following: flexget running (python script), the nvidia proprietary drivers, x11vnc running at bootup as root. I have tried adding in X-swat updates ppa in an attempt to try to fix the issue with no luck. So far, the simplest sequence of events leading to the crash was after a fresh boot, I connected via vnc and logged into the device via vnc and let it sit there. Within an hour X reset. But I have done the same since with no X restart. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/696995 Title: Sudden Crash out to Login Screen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711296] Re: package xserver-xorg-core 2:1.9.0.902-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: installing xserver-xorg-core would break existing software
briancb, -nvidia hasn't been updated to use the new xserver 1.10 yet, don't install it. (In fact, jockey should have prevented you from installing it to begin with...) ** Description changed: Installed failure using apt-get dist-upgrade on Natty to upgrade to the new X stack. This is an expected error. xserver is being held back from upgrading until the full set of drivers have rebuilt for the system. The issue is a temporary one while this building work is going on, lasting perhaps a day. It can take a bit longer for the builds to propagate out to the slower mirrors. + + NOTE: You can't use -nvidia or -fglrx now. We have to wait for new + updated versions of both drivers from NVIDIA and AMD that supports + xserver 1.10. Until then, you need to have them uninstalled and use the + open source drivers, -nouveau and -ati respectively.
