[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 713440] [NEW] screen corruption when using xterm
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I am using metacity since compix crashed (bug 712810). I launched an xterm but there is only garbage in the window, and also around, on the desktop and adjacent windows (unless they are redrawn). This is on today's live image. I experienced a full X lock up earlier while clicking around with unity/compiz. The whole screen got scrambled. Unfortunately I had not set up ssh access so I could not investigate. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu
Im also seeing this problem on the ati card (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650) using fglrx. X just crashes and I have to hard reboot. I disabled the "Waveform display" in interface preferences and now I can safely run mixxx again. When I started mixxx from the commandline, it did not crash my machine, but was showing a message that I have direct rendering disabled and that displaying the waveform might use a lot of cpu. And indeed, the waveform display was flickering heavily and not looking nice at all... When I start mixxx using the menu icon, it crashes X until I disable the waveform display. Starting mixxx via icon actually starts "pasuspender mixxx". nvidia is not installable right now (bug #711409). So this is basically a dupe of that bug. However, it would be nice of Jockey did not offer to let you install the driver in the first place. I've confirmed with NVIDIA graphics cards that the Hardware Drivers indicator shows up with latest nvidia. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 705078] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in pixman_image_set_has_client_clip()
Hi, visiting from bug 708744. I managed to collect a crash report of one of our failed systems (a Dell Vostro 3400), which I'm attaching, hopefully it will help confirm what Bryce found. This happens during the live install process, stopping the installation and dropping the user into a LiveCD environment/session. I'll also try the submitted fix on all our systems, though I can't do that until monday. Here's the backtrace as requested, the attached .crash file has additional information. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 653910] Re: package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04 failed to install/upgrade: error: unknown field ‘ioctl’ specified in initializer
Here's what I did: Remove 3 lines from /usr/src/nvidia-current-195.36.24/nv.c (see attached diff), run `sudo dkms build -m nvidia-current -v 195.36.24`. If that works, run `sudo dkms install -m nvidia-current -v 195.36.24`. Now, if you're still in an X session, log out, switch to a virtual console, log in and run `sudo service gdm stop` (or whatever dm you happen to be running, if at all). Unload the old module if it's still loaded (`sudo rmmod nvidia`) and load the new one with `sudo modprobe nvidia-current`. Now run `exec sudo service gdm start`, `startx` or whatever floats your boat. If this is too difficult, a plain restart should suffice, too. If the package manager had errors, you can run `sudo apt-get -f install` or `sudo dpkg --configure --pending` and it'll run dkms for you as well. Just don't restart X until the new module is loaded and you'll be fine. This is using package nvidia-current version 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04. I'll try to make a debdiff shortly. ** Patch added: "e.g. root@ubuntu:/usr/src# patch -p0 < ~/Downloads/nvidia-current.diff" https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/653910/+attachment/1829452/+files/nvidia-current.diff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/653910 Title: package nvidia-current 195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04 failed to install/upgrade: error: unknown field ‘ioctl’ specified in initializer ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
