[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 716595] Re: consecutive root_command_output() calls ask for password each time

2011-02-14 Thread Martin Pitt
Indeed it works when running without $DISPLAY, i. e. apport calls sudo
directly. But it doesn't seem to cache credentials when using gksu, as
this creates new PTYs (to run sudo in) every time.

We could provide a new API root_commands_output to accept a keyname -
[command list] and slurp in all command outputs in one go. The xorg hook
could then use that.

** Summary changed:

- Apport hook prompts 3 times for password
+ consecutive root_command_output() calls ask for password each time

** Also affects: apport (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

After updating and restarting unity today I was met with a blank
desktop, just the background image drawn. It seems that the unity plugin
was turned off - however after turning it back on there's still no
  furniture.

It seems like the furniture is there, it's just invisible. I tried
restarting compiz to no avail, and adding --indirect-rendering to compiz
command line caused compiz to segfault.

I'll mark unity and compiz as related

For using the i5 graphics I had to uninstall the xerver-xorg-video-nv driver
and its using nouveau drivers now.
And I dont know why my i5 GPU doesnt show up on the lspci screen...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 716595] Re: consecutive root_command_output() calls ask for password each time

That seems to be a rather interesting gksu bug or misbehaviour: gksu
whoami does cache the password through sudo, but gksu whoami /tmp/o
doesn't. So the output redirection breaks this somehow.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718858] [NEW] System freeze using GL

2011-02-14 Thread Fabien Tassin
Public bug reported:

When using WebGL (with chromium 9/10/11) or GL (googleearth 5/6) for more than
a few minutes, the whole system freezes.
The kernel is still alive but it's impossible to go to a console.
AltGr+PrintScreen+K does something but the system remains frozen.
I end-up doing a sync+umount+boot.

my /var/log/gdm/:0.log.2 shows:

(EE) NVIDIA(0): Error recovery failed.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718742] [NEW] Cyborg R.A.T.7 Right Click Issue

2011-02-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Okay, we are half way there Ubuntu. I started another bug report which
would lock focus to the last X-Window the Cyborg R.A.T.7 gaming mouse
had a button press on. That has been fixed with the following in
.xmodmap file or xorg.conf file.

Section InputClass
Identifier Mouse Remap
MatchProduct Saitek Cyborg R.A.T.7 Mouse
MatchDevicePath /dev/input/event*
Option ButtonMapping 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 2 9 10 11 12 0 0 0
EndSection

Now the focus issue is fixed with direct mapping, but there is still a
problem. When you right click whether it be on a desktop or x-window of
any kind to bring up the context menu. It is acting as if the right
click is doing a button press, button release, then a button press and
button release again, all with one actual full click and release causing
you to accidentally select the first context menu option without having
a chance to scroll down. The only way to not accidentally select the
first menu option is to HOLD down the right click and not release until
you are over your correct context menu option.

To describe further. Currently I have to create the habit of clicking
the right mouse key and HOLD while scrolling down to the correct context
menu I wish to select, then upon release it selects the item.

The way this should work is upon button release of the right click,
the context menu should come up, not upon the button press. Then the
menu should pop up and you should not be holding any buttons down at
all, scroll to your desired option in the context menu, then LEFT click
your option.

I'm not sure which package this belongs to, but it sounds like it could
be an xorg package of some sort.

Thanks Julien, I'm pilling cbe9fc12a64 for ubuntu's mesa to fix this
bug; I gather as long as we have that we don't need the workaround in
the X server. (Let me know if otherwise).

Will look at the other patches you've flagged directly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 710372] [NEW] Sentelic touchpad clicks twice (middle-clicks?) when left-clicking

2011-02-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hello,
my Sentelic touchpad (integrated into a MSI WindPC U100) often clicks twice (or
it might seem to perform a middle-click) when left click is clicked.
This bug exists right now in Ubuntu 10.10 (fresh-install/top-up-to-date) and is
existing since (at least) 10.04.

People having similar bug seemed to be successful using some
workarounds, none of which worked for Sentelic.

pilling == pulling obviously.

Adding xorg-server task for the two xserver patches, guess this report
serves as a good enough reference for them as any.

2011-02-14 Thread kurt belgrave
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xserver-xorg-video-intel.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about
this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 705418] Re: frequent x crashing when connecting external video

2011-02-14 Thread Sebastien Kramm
Ok, I tried that too, I am now running 2.6.36-020636-generic
and it indeed fixes the bug: no more unexpected crash when configuring display.
However, I still can not have clone view, as described here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 711434] Re: [natty] frequent Xorg freezes with nouveau

2011-02-14 Thread Marc Deslauriers
The nouveau.noaccel=1 workaround seems to have worked for me. With that,
I have not had any crashes in the past couple of days.

Bryce, do you still need a dmesg from a crash?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 719036] [NEW] [fglrx] ATI FirePro 2450 512MB PCI-e x16 Graphics Video Card crashed X every 24-48 hours

2011-02-14 Thread thesheff17
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Every 24-48 hours the X server crashes and goes back to Ubuntu 10.10
loading screen. RAOF from the ubuntu-x irc chat says it has something
to do with the cursor changing. If I can find the specific app it is
crashing on when the cursor changes I will put that in the notes.
Attached is my gdb backtrace.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681054] Re: screen repeatedly goes black for a fraction of a second (two monitors detected?)

2011-02-14 Thread Cobalt
a) Booted from natty live CD dated Feb. 14. The screen still blinks.

b) For maverick, no workaround for this bug, only for #606987 as
mentioned in #38. Rerunning apport-collect 681054.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

Since I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10, the monitor displays
correctly for a couple of seconds, then turns black for a fraction of a
second and then repeats the on and off sequence, making the computer
  nearly unusable.

The whole sequence is periodic, not random.

Another bug reported earlier (#606987) persists in this release as well,
perhaps with the exception that restarting the computer (as opposed to
turning it on after a shutdown) gives a normal logon screen. (I only
used Restart a couple of times since the upgrade.)

  Thanks and regards
