The comments on these bug reports seem to indicate that a later intel driver should fix the problem. All the symptoms here are generic things that always happen like that whenever the GPU is hung. So even if it might look like those other bug reports, it's probably something completely different. The standard way to troubleshoot GPU hangs is to attach to the bug report the output from 'sudo dmesg' from while it is hung, along with output from 'intel_gpu_dump'. That should be enough to allow us to determine if it's a known issue. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-graphics-drivers - 270.29-0ubuntu1 --- nvidia-graphics-drivers (270.29-0ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low * New upstream release: - Added official support for xserver 1.10. The -ignoreABI option is no longer required with this version of the server. - Updated the NVIDIA kernel module to ensure that all system memory allocated by it for use with GPUs or within user-space components of the NVIDIA driver stack is initialized to zero. A new NVIDIA kernel module option, InitializeSystemMemoryAllocations, allows administrators to revert to the previous behavior. - Added preliminary support for xserver 1.10. - Reorganized the NVIDIA driver's /proc file system layout to better reflect current needs: /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0..N has been moved to /proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0..N/information - Added new shared library: libnvidia-ml.so. - NVML provides programmatic access to static information and monitoring data for NVIDIA GPUs, as well as limited managment capabilities. It is intended for use with Tesla compute products. See web-based documentation and associated nvml.h header for more info. - Added a new X configuration option 3DVisionDisplayType to specify the display type when NVIDIA 3D Vision is enabled with a non 3D Vision ready display. - Fixed several bugs relating to hardware-accelerated gradients, which were causing visual corruption in some of the default Ubuntu GNOME themes. - Modified colormap updates to no longer be synchronized to vblank. This allows applications to send XStoreColor and XStoreColors requests faster than the screen's refresh rate. This behavior can be controlled by a new NV-CONTROL attribute, NV_CONTROL_SYNC_LUT_UPDATES. By default, LUT updates are not synchronized. This may cause flickering in some applications that use the colormap to perform animation, such as xpilot running on a depth 8 X screen. If you experience flickering, try running: nvidia-settings -a [gpu:0]/SynchronousPaletteUpdates=1 - Added support for the following GPUs: o GeForce GTX 560 Ti - Added NV-CONTROL event notification for NV_CTRL_FRAMELOCK_SYNC_READY status changes. - Added a new X configuration option Interactive, which defaults to enabled, but can be disabled to allow long-running GPU compute programs to run concurrently with X. - Fixed a bug in the VDPAU presentation queue that could cause VDPAU display preemption when rendering to tiny or zero-sized windows or pixmaps. - Fixed a bug in VDPAU which prevented use of the overlay presentation queue following an application exiting without gracefully destroying its VDPAU presentation queue. * debian/control{.in}: - Depend on ${xinpdriver:Depends} (LP: #616214). * debian/nvidia-current.postrm{.in}: - Make sure that the driver's directory is removed (LP: #540143). * debian/nvidia-current.links{32}{.in}: - Add links to libnvcuvid*.so* and to libnvidia-ml*.so* for both 32bit and 64bit (LP: #704607). * debian/rules: - Add libnvcuvid*.so*, libnvidia-ml*.so* and libXvMCNVIDIA*.so.* to the 32bit compatibility libraries. -- Alberto Milone alberto.mil...@canonical.com Fri, 25 Feb 2011 13:26:39 +0100 ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/704607 Title: Packaging issues in nvidia-current ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 724342] Re: pointer mode not available with ntrig touchscreen
I have tested a daily build. After booting from it I have everything working as expected, so as Chase has stated, my problems may come from package inconsistency (installing then removing from many ppa, etc.) The only valid problem is the duplicate devices in /dev/input (8 devices with the same name) And Henrik is working on this one and has already sent an upstream patch. I'm marking this bug #724342 as invalid. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/724342 Title: pointer mode not available with ntrig touchscreen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714829] Re: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file
I'm building an image for testing of Bryce's fix. In the meanwhile, I did some quick testing using Mario's suggestions. Like Robert did, I just let the Thinkpad X201 sit there while monitoring processes and Xorg.0.log. Sure enough, the panel process starts using up the CPU, going up to about 80%, and eventually exiting with status 1 (I attached gdb to it, it didn't segfault or anything). At around that time, the bo map errors start appearing in the log. I then started the install process, but quickly switched to a terminal and killed the panel process. This time the installation went on without a hitch. So if the panel is around, it eventually dies and usually takes Xorg with it. If the panel is killed the system can install and/or remain sitting there without problems. I was able to replicate this behavior on the Dell Vostro 3400, if left as-is the panel eventually crashes, if the panel is killed then it works OK. I'll update as soon as I have some more results. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/714829 Title: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 724514] Re: GPU hang
On Friday, February 25, 2011, Bryce Harrington wrote: The standard way to troubleshoot GPU hangs is to attach to the bug report the output from 'sudo dmesg' from while it is hung, along with output from 'intel_gpu_dump'. That should be enough to allow us to determine if it's a known issue. As the error is not reproducible (and difficult to foresee when it will strike the next time), I can only provide what can be collected after the bug happened. 'intel_gpu_dump' seems to be doable, but 'sudo dmesg' sounds like I have to start prior to the bug happening. Is that correct ? If so, can I extract the information also from somewhere in /var/log ? Thanks ! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714829] Re: Xorg segfaults during LiveCD installation using preseed file
I built an image based on latest Natty daily and incorporating Bryce's fixed ubiquity. It looks promising, already the panel is no longer misbehaving and it doesn't consume CPU like it used to. I was able to complete the installation process on the X201 where the failure was so easily reproduced previously. Also, on the Dell, whereas the pristine image just crashed eventually, the image with the fix is able to go further into the installation, until I hit an unrelated Ubiquity bug (I'll report on that one separately). There are no panel-related crashes on this one. So it's looking good, my next step is to plug the image in our testing infrastructure and see how most systems behave. I'll report back as soon as I have something else.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725172] [NEW] Xorg segfaults consistently after I plug in my Microsoft® Digital Media Keyboard 3000
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg When the keyboard is not plugged in, the system operates normally; plugging in the keyboard at any time consistently produces a segmentation fault. [Ubuntu-x-swat] amd64 nvidia-graphics-drivers 270.29-0ubuntu1~lucid~xup2 locks up at GDM
I just updated from nvidia-graphics-drivers 270.18 to nvidia-graphics-drivers 270.29-0ubuntu1~lucid~xup2 System loads up and as soon as GDM displays the Wallpaper and Mouse cursor I experience a hard lock up. No reaction to keyboard/mouse/power-switch etc. I'm unable to provide any meaningful debug trace or log entry as the system did not record anything in the system logs. Only solution is to hard reset (and reboot in recovery/failsafeX mode). System is a Gigabyte 870A-UD3 motherboard, AMD Athlon II X2 255 CPU, 8GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 210 PCIe 1GB running Ubuntu 10.04 amd64 (at the time of writing: Linux Nebuchadnezzar 2.6.32-28-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 10 23:42:43 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux) DKMS compile went through without a problem and initrd was also rebuilt fine. Any idea how to downgrade to the previous 270.18 package (can't see it in the PPA)? Need to get my system going again. - Jochen ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
