[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] [NEW] [Radeon HD 5650] Driver crash during recovery boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I'm running natty, and every since the upgrade to 6.14.0 I've been unable to consistently boot. If this were a support forum I'd agree, but the usage pattern for a bug tracker is different, and actually general practice is to keep bug reports as fine grained as possible. Especially with hardware problems like KVM switches it's not uncommon to need a separate fix for each specific type of device. In this sort of situation, it's really helpful to have each person's problem as a separate bug report, so as we generate or locate patches we can keep track of which KVMs still need attention and which are solved. Also, bug trackers tend to make it really cheap and easy to dupe multiple bug reports, whereas splitting one bug report out into several isn't possible. So even in the case where everyone's KVM scroll lock issue was identical, it's not hard for us developers to quickly verify this, and then easily mark them as dupes. Then, if later on we find we've made a mistake we can undupe bugs on a case by case basis and carry on. Anyway, I'm belaboring the point. But trust me, it really does help to have separate bug reports for each person and each particular piece of hardware. :-) > Moreover "scroll lock doesn't work in ubuntu" on a search engine is > likely to land here, leaving this issue open helps collecting everyone's > experience in one place. Actually, if the bug is closed, the search engine will still be able to link to it, so that's not a problem. But I think what you are wanting in this case would be best served as a discussion thread on a technical support forum such as askubuntu.com or the ubuntu forums, which I think would be a really good idea. Meanwhile, in the bug tracker we really should just focus development efforts towards *fixing* the bug. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727594] [NEW] [i915gm] GPU lockup c38b9ae8 (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x02000004)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel As instructed by Bryce I installed the following kernel on my Asus eee pc 701 running natty: " Please test with the following kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ " by doing sudo dpkg -i linux-imagedeb Then I ran update manager. After rebooting I browsed with google chrome. The system froze after 5 minutes. I rebooted the same kernel and immediately got this problem popup. In addition there is font corruption - part of the letter t is missing in the browser. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725911] Re: Logitech wireless mouse recognition variable
Typically input device recognition issues are due to kernel driver loading issues. In both the Xorg logs and all three gdm logs you posted it is showing a Logitech USB optical mouse being recognized, so unfortunately there isn't an error to go on here. It's showing up fine in dmesg as well. Here is how I'd go about debugging the problem if it was my mouse: First rule out any hardware issues like flaky batteries (it happens!) and so on. Then, reboot until you get a boot where it *doesn't* detect the mouse. I'd then look at `dmesg` output to see if the mouse is listed. There should be a line like this one: [3.298428] generic-usb 0003:046D:C50E.0001: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [Logitech USB RECEIVER] on usb-:00:02.0-2/input0 If that is missing, then it is definitely a kernel bug. If it's there, next I'd look at the output of `sudo lsinput` which should display a listing of kernel-detected devices. The device should be shown there. If not, then probably a kernel bug. Next, look at the output of xinput list, verify whether the device is there. If not, and it was in lsinput and/or dmesg, then it might be an X bug. Look through /var/log/Xorg.0.log in this case and see if it is shown there. If you get this far, contact us X guys again and we'll take it from there. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725911 Title: Logitech wireless mouse recognition variable ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yeah, didn't realize that having command_output_quiet() return None and then assigning it to an element of report[] would cause troubles. Alright, as per comment #11 it sounds like the original issue is gone (and probably was a kernel drm issue). The user is still experiencing gpu lockups, but this is already covered by bug #553789. Fwiw, we will need to get better GPU hang tools for -nouveau in place before we can effectively diagnose GPU lockups with that driver. Meanwhile, work directly with upstream or with the Ubuntu kernel team on them (since GPU hangs are almost always due to issues in kernel drm). ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713781 Title: [natty] Video corruption on kernel 2.6.38-1-generic (and on -3) and nVidia Corporation GT216 [GeForce GT 230M] (rev a2) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Yeah; I also suspect that this is a broken fallback path in our BGNone patch. Intel doesn't appear to own the framebuffer before X, so the framebuffer copy fails - something that doesn't otherwise happen - and the server scratch pixmap state doesn't get set up. However, I couldn't easily see why it *wasn't* getting set up. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727457] [NEW] natty won't boot with strange xorg failure
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev After the update of the above package I was not able to boot natty any more. In the recovery console trying to start X-Server I get a strange failure regarding my usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf file. I removed that file and natty is booting in the normal manner. At the moment I'm back at natty-alpha-2 status as I'm trying out to fix this problem with a "fresh" install, so the version number of my system isn't up to date. Never the less, the system was up to date when this crash happened. I've attached both, my xorg.0.log and my synaptics.conf Hope the description is alright. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727382] Re: Unable to correctly display Image on 24" External Monitor
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel - When trying to connect a Lenovo X201 to an external display it fails to - correctly display the image. + When trying to connect a Lenovo X201 to an external display (24" LED + 1080p) it fails to correctly display the image. This worked perfectly in maverick. Right after upgrading the system to natty everything continued to work correctly. However, I believe that after updating xserver-xorg-video-intel later that day, everything started to malfunction. When the monitor is connected through VGA during boot, the external display shows flickering of different colors. However, when trying to disconnect, reconnecting and reconfiguring the external monitor, the display works correctly. However when turning off the Laptops LCD (via System>Preferences>Monitors) and leaving the external display on, then both display go back and no output is seen. The only way to fix is by changing to a tty and restarting GDM. Additionally I've seen other behavior such as been able to display on both screens, however, the resolutions were not correct and the windows were expanded between both screens (and incompletely in the external monitor). Other issue seen is right after connecting the monitor to the laptops VGA output, the screen changed to a console and displayed something like the following: [drm:intel_dp_aux_ch] *ERROR* dp_aux_ch not started status 0x8145003e ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-1ubuntu11 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-5.32-generic 2.6.38-rc6 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-5-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz DRM.card0.DP.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: DRM.card0.HDMI.A.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: disabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: disabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: DRM.card0.LVDS.1: - status: connected - enabled: enabled - dpms: On - modes: 1280x800 1280x800 - edid-base64: AP///wAwrhFTAQOAGhB46lzVk1xejiccUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEB7hoAgFAgEDAQMBMABaMQAAAZ0BcAxlAgGTAwIDYABaMQAAAZDwCBCjyBCjIWCQBMo0FU/gBMVE4xMjFBVDA3TDAyADg= + status: connected + enabled: enabled + dpms: On + modes: 1280x800 1280x800 + edid-base64: AP///wAwrhFTAQOAGhB46lzVk1xejiccUFQBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEBAQEB7hoAgFAgEDAQMBMABaMQAAAZ0BcAxlAgGTAwIDYABaMQAAAZDwCBCjyBCjIWCQBMo0FU/gBMVE4xMjFBVDA3TDAyADg= DRM.card0.VGA.1: - status: disconnected - enabled: enabled - dpms: Off - modes: - edid-base64: + status: disconnected + enabled: enabled + dpms: Off + modes: + edid-base64: Date: Tue Mar 1 14:32:34 2011 DistUpgraded: Yes, recently upgraded Log time: 2011-02-24 12:39:40.003794 DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: - Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:215a] + Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0046] (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) + Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:215a] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) Lsusb: - Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 665233] Re: Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption
Ok, it wasn't the new AMD ATI Drivers what "seemed" to solve the problem, which is still present. This is what I just did: I've removed all packages fglrx, xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver- xorg-video-radeon. I reinstalled xserver-xorg-video-ati and the mesa libraries. I deleted the xorg.conf. $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-video-ati when I rebooted, the laptop screen (I have dual monitor, with a samsung lcd monitor too) wasn't flickering anymore, but the LCD screen wasn't in the correct resolution. Then I set up the monitors resolution, the system asked me to logout and the flickering was back. So I installed the fglrx packages again: $ sudo apt-get install fglrx* When I rebooted, the flickering was still present. Then I wrote: $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-core And when I rebooted the flickering was gone, but... "Desktop Effects can't be enabled". What can I do? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665233 Title: Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Then however it decided to log me out (taking ages to do so), and also took ages to log me back in, with all work lost.
