[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 650539] Re: SRU: Launching a Qt app crashes X when using Xinerama

2011-03-01 Thread Perry Hung
I've tried Jared's PPA, the packages from maverick proposed,
1.9.0ubuntu7.3, as well as rebuilding it from source and making sure the
patch was in there, and none of them fixed the issue for me.

nvidia GTX 260. I've tried nvidia-current, as well as proprietary
drivers 260.19.21

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650] Driver crash during recovery boot

2011-03-01 Thread afoglia
I forgot to mention, my computer is an HP Envy 14, so I have the
discrete ATI card, and also integrated graphics from the core i5 (which
uses the i915 driver). Just in case it's some interaction between the
two that causes the crash.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] [NEW] [Radeon HD 5650] Driver crash during recovery boot

2011-03-01 Thread afoglia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I'm running natty, and every since the upgrade to 6.14.0 I've been
unable to consistently boot. After some discussion in the forums, I
tried repeatedly to boot into recovery mode. In most cases, I got a
black screen. One time though, when I was able to successfully increase
the brightness, I saw some errors from the radeon module. I took a
photo (available at http://i.imgur.com/P0bQ0.jpg), and here's the stack
and call trace, as best as I can read it:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718620] Re: With HybridGraphics Xorg assert failure: X: ../../dix/pixmap.c:118: AllocatePixmap: Assertion `pScreen->totalPixmapSize > 0' failed.

2011-03-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xserver-xorg-video-intel -
2:2.14.0-4ubuntu1

---
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-4ubuntu1) natty; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable. Remaining Ubuntu changes:
- debian/apport-gpu-error-intel.py:
- debian/control:
- debian/rules:
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.install:
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.udev
  + Add apport hook, triggered on udev GPU error event
- debian/control:
  + Drop [linux-any] qualifier on libudev-dev build-dep to work around
pbuilder bug.
- debian/patches/101_copy-fb.patch:
  + Plymouth integration patch
- debian/patches/107_solid_nullptr_check.patch:
  + Check null return from uxa_acquire_solid()
- debian/patches/109_dont_reconstruct_glyph_cache_on_rotate.patch:
  + Fix font corruption (missing glyphs) on rotated screens.
- debian/patches/110_warnings_cleanup.patch:
- debian/patches/114_warnings_cleanup_part_2.patch:
  + Cherry picks to fix a large number of build warnings.
- debian/patches/111_fix_clipped_window_plane_offset.patch:
- 112_fix_error_in_4c4ad555.patch:
  + Fix issue where vertical green line and strange colors shows up when
playing gstreamer with certain videos, when dragged. (LP 460677)
- debian/patches/113_remove_broken_max_base_addresses.patch:
  + Fixes GPU lockup during login with
 "Bad length (4) in MI_DISPLAY_BUFFER_INFO, [3, 3]" error messages
  listed in the gpu dump text. (LP 710321)
- debian/patches/115_quell_vblank_counter_failed.patch:
  +  Don't fill up Xorg.0.log with
 "get vblank counter failed: Invalid argument" warnings.
 5 is enough.  (LP 710594)
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.preinst.in:
- debian/xserver-xorg-video-intel.postinst.in:
  + Remove obsolete /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf file on upgrades. KMS
is the kernel default.
  * Pull prerequisite commit into
109_dont_reconstruct_glyph_cache_on_rotate.patch.  We mostly didn't notice
because the copy-fb codepath initialises the resources itself. Fixes
Pixmap assert on Xserver startup when copy-fb fails, such as on hybrid
graphics systems. (LP: #718620)
  * debian/control:
- Dropped Ubuntu change: remove a bunch of Conflicts/Replaces against
  packages last seen in Hardy.

xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Cherry-pick from upstream:
- uxa: Fallback if the temporary is too large
  * This fixes a null pointer dereference with some rendering operations
involving large pictures (Closes: #613830). Thanks, Enrico!

xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * Switch to dh:
- Use debhelper 8.
- Use dh-autoreconf.
- Bump xserver-xorg-dev build-dep for dh_xsf_substvars and xsf
  debhelper sequence.
- Specify usr/share/man in .install, remove .manpages accordingly.
- Specify NEWS and README in .docs file.
  * Get rid of maintainer scripts, since they were only used to handle
switching between versions with or without KMS. Starting with squeeze,
KMS is mandatory, so stop worrying about that.
  * Remove xsfbs accordingly.
  * Remove leftovers:
- NEWS file is outdated, UMS is no longer available, and that's
  covered by README.Debian
- The .install.hurd-i386 file is no longer relevant, this package is
  now Linux-only.
  * Update Uploaders list. Thanks, David & Brice!
  * Remove long obsolete Replaces.
  * Wrap Depends/Provides/Recommends.
  * Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.1 (no changes needed).

xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.14.0-2) experimental; urgency=low

  * Cherry-pick from upstream to fix many rendering issues
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33650):
- uxa: Undo damage translation before appending

If this were a support forum I'd agree, but the usage pattern for a bug
tracker is different, and actually general practice is to keep bug
reports as fine grained as possible.

Especially with hardware problems like KVM switches it's not uncommon to
need a separate fix for each specific type of device. In this sort of
situation, it's really helpful to have each person's problem as a
separate bug report, so as we generate or locate patches we can keep
track of which KVMs still need attention and which are solved.

Also, bug trackers tend to make it really cheap and easy to dupe
multiple bug reports, whereas splitting one bug report out into several
isn't possible. So even in the case where everyone's KVM scroll lock
issue was identical, it's not hard for us developers to quickly verify
this, and then easily mark them as dupes. Then, if later on we find
we've made a mistake we can undupe bugs on a case by case basis and
carry on.

Anyway, I'm belaboring the point. But trust me, it really does help to
have separate bug reports for each person and each particular piece of
hardware.  :-)

Actually, if the bug is closed, the search engine will still be able to
link to it, so that's not a problem.

But I think what you are wanting in this case would be best served as a
discussion thread on a technical support forum such as askubuntu.com or
the ubuntu forums, which I think would be a really good idea.
Meanwhile, in the bug tracker we really should just focus development
efforts towards *fixing* the bug.

Latest kernel update to 2.6.35-27 still has same issue .. is anyone
seeing this issue? Four kernel upgrades have occurred since the NV79
Backlight power off issue has been logged? Is this the wrong forum for
these issues?? I would like to use the later kernels but cannot because
the LIGHTS ARE OFF on the display. It worked on kernel 2.6.32.27 .. so
it has got to be something simple that was changed.

  issue is by doing a system test. But as soon as my laptop goes to
  sleep it goes back to the black screen. I could not find another fix
  because once I did the system testing for 10.10 it would not allow me

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727594] [NEW] [i915gm] GPU lockup c38b9ae8 (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x02000004)

2011-03-01 Thread David Coggins
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

As instructed by Bryce I installed the following kernel on my Asus eee pc 701
running natty:
" Please test with the following kernel:

  http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/ "

by doing sudo dpkg -i linux-imagedeb

Then I ran update manager.

After rebooting I browsed with google chrome. The system froze after 5
minutes.

I rebooted the same kernel and immediately got this problem popup. In
addition there is font corruption - part of the letter t is missing in
the browser.

** Tags added: apport-collected natty

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

  I booted a computer with an nVidia 6150 integrated graphics controller
  from a CD burnt from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-

  connected to the component output suffers from vertical roll.
  Fortunately the monitor connected to the DVI output shows a stable
  picture.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 614993] Re: 10.04 -> 10.10 upgrade fails: pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks: xserver-xorg-video-v4l demoted to universe

2011-03-01 Thread Gaba_p
Hi Bruno,

'plasma-netbook' is not installed in my system Only
'libplasmagenericshell4' is installed (whatever that is)

I have several external repositories instilled (ie: burg, docky,
qbittorrent, google, dropbox, medibuntu, jdownloader, etc..), maybe
those have something to do with this issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725911] Re: Logitech wireless mouse recognition variable

2011-03-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
Typically input device recognition issues are due to kernel driver
loading issues.

In both the Xorg logs and all three gdm logs you posted it is showing a
Logitech USB optical mouse being recognized, so unfortunately there
isn't an error to go on here. It's showing up fine in dmesg as well.

Here is how I'd go about debugging the problem if it was my mouse:
First rule out any hardware issues like flaky batteries (it happens!)
and so on. Then, reboot until you get a boot where it *doesn't* detect
the mouse. I'd then look at `dmesg` output to see if the mouse is
listed. There should be a line like this one:

[3.298428] generic-usb 0003:046D:C50E.0001: input,hidraw0: USB HID
v1.11 Mouse [Logitech USB RECEIVER] on usb-:00:02.0-2/input0

If that is missing, then it is definitely a kernel bug.

If it's there, next I'd look at the output of `sudo lsinput` which
should display a listing of kernel-detected devices. The device should
be shown there. If not, then probably a kernel bug.

Next, look at the output of xinput list, verify whether the device is
there. If not, and it was in lsinput and/or dmesg, then it might be an
X bug. Look through /var/log/Xorg.0.log in this case and see if it is
shown there. If you get this far, contact us X guys again and we'll
take it from there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 712109] Re: Assert failure in hook for xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

2011-03-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
Yeah, didn't realize that having command_output_quiet() return None and
then assigning it to an element of report[] would cause troubles.

I've refactored the calls of command_output_quiet() into
attach_command_output(), which follows the API style of the other
attach_* routines in apport, and which should be safe from this assert
failure.

2011-03-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alright, as per comment #11 it sounds like the original issue is gone
(and probably was a kernel drm issue). The user is still experiencing
gpu lockups, but this is already covered by bug #553789.

Fwiw, we will need to get better GPU hang tools for -nouveau in place
before we can effectively diagnose GPU lockups with that driver.
Meanwhile, work directly with upstream or with the Ubuntu kernel team on
them (since GPU hangs are almost always due to issues in kernel drm).

To isolate whether it is the no root background patch you could try
manually running X without that switch. Something like:

 $ sudo service gdm stop
 $ sudo /usr/bin/X :0 --verbose -nolisten tcp vt7

If the bug can't be reproduced in that situation (which omits the -nr
flag) then that'd pinpoint it to the BGNone patch I think.

2011-03-01 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Yeah; I also suspect that this is a broken fallback path in our BGNone
patch. Intel doesn't appear to own the framebuffer before X, so the
framebuffer copy fails - something that doesn't otherwise happen - and
the server scratch pixmap state doesn't get set up.

However, I couldn't easily see why it *wasn't* getting set up. Although
I don't have a hybrid system I'll try making the framebuffer copy fail
on my system to see if I can reproduce.

2011-03-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
Looking in other distro bug trackers, I see this assertion has been hit
by others, however I've a feeling that there are multiple ways to
trigger this assert.

This email makes me wonder if it has something to do with the BGNone patch we
carry:

2011-03-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
Ah, yes the original bug reporter appears to also have hybrid graphics.
Seems like a very strong clue.

** Summary changed:

- Xorg assert failure: X: ../../dix/pixmap.c:118: AllocatePixmap: Assertion
`pScreen->totalPixmapSize > 0' failed.
+ With HybridGraphics Xorg assert failure: X: ../../dix/pixmap.c:118:
AllocatePixmap: Assertion `pScreen->totalPixmapSize > 0' failed.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Medium => High

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 718019] Re: XRender not working on i945GM

2011-03-01 Thread Bryce Harrington
It would be really useful if you did nail it down to a particular daily
image if you have time.

Another avenue would be to show that it reproduces on another (non-
Debian) distribution, in which case we can at least take the bug report
to freedesktop.org as an upstream issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645530] Re: magic trackpad not working with evdev

2011-03-01 Thread Aurelien Naldi
two finger scrolling and other multitouch stuff requires some user-land
support, it does not work out of the box in natty either.
You will have to backport ginn [1] as well to support "legacy" applications

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727457] [NEW] natty won't boot with strange xorg failure

2011-03-01 Thread GodNobody
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

After the update of the above package I was not able to boot natty any
more.

In the recovery console trying to start X-Server I get a strange failure
regarding my usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf file. I removed
that file and natty is booting in the normal manner.

At the moment I'm back at natty-alpha-2 status as I'm trying out to fix this
problem with a "fresh" install, so the version number of my system isn't up to
date.
Never the less, the system was up to date when this crash happened.

I've attached both, my xorg.0.log and my synaptics.conf

Hope the description is alright.

ProblemType: Bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 645530] Re: magic trackpad not working with evdev

2011-03-01 Thread Lee Colleton
I was able to install a backported kernel from natty via the kernel
backports PPA as described on the wiki which enabled some functionality.
Two fingered scrolling doesn't work for me, but edge scrolling does.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 668641] Re: GNOME does not load theme after innstalling NVIDIA non-free driver

2011-03-01 Thread Tuomas Järvensivu
I was able to reproduce the issue on the next boot and after this the
removal /etc/X11/xorg.conf didn't work either.

Attaching /var/log/Xorg.0.log, /var/log/syslog and .xsession-errors in
logs-110301.tar.gz. Hope it helps to resolve the situation.

2011-03-01 Thread Tuomas Järvensivu
This could be a race condition but nothing SSD - specific. I was able to
reproduce this reliably on my brand new Lenovo W510 - laptop.

Just now I was able work around the problem by removing
/etc/X11/xorg.conf, restarting, and rerunning 'sudo nvidia-xconfig'.
This after I had installed latest drivers from
ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates.

I've got:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727382] Re: Unable to correctly display Image on 24" External Monitor

2011-03-01 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

- When trying to connect a Lenovo X201 to an external display it fails to
- correctly display the image.
+ When trying to connect a Lenovo X201 to an external display (24" LED
+ 1080p) it fails to correctly display the image.

  This worked perfectly in maverick. Right after upgrading the system to
  natty everything continued to work correctly. However, I believe that
  after updating xserver-xorg-video-intel later that day, everything
  started to malfunction. When the monitor is connected through VGA during
  boot, the external display shows flickering of different colors.

  However, when trying to disconnect, reconnecting and reconfiguring the
  external monitor, the display works correctly. However when turning off
  the Laptops LCD (via System>Preferences>Monitors) and leaving the
  external display on, then both display go back and no output is seen.
  The only way to fix is by changing to a tty and restarting GDM.

  Additionally I've seen other behavior such as been able to display on
  both screens, however, the resolutions were not correct and the windows
  were expanded between both screens (and incompletely in the external
  monitor).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 185600] Re: openoffice repeatedly freezes after resuming laptop from sleep

2011-03-01 Thread Berezin Kirill
I can also confirm this bug under Ubuntu 10.10 and
absolutely-all-fresh-updates-installed.
I also have nvidia card and proprietary drivers installed. Sounds like it is
vendor-specific (nvidia) compiz problem.

I expirience this bug from 9.10, as I can remember. Reopening OO.org
Writer hepls, but it is very uncomfortable to answer "Yes or no" to the
response of saving changes when I can't remember what are they in such
situation.

This bug is 2 years old, so sad there is still no solution.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 665233] Re: Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption

2011-03-01 Thread Milton
Ok, it wasn't the new AMD ATI Drivers what "seemed" to solve the
problem, which is still present.

This is what I just did:

I've removed all packages fglrx, xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-
xorg-video-radeon.

I reinstalled xserver-xorg-video-ati and the mesa libraries.
I deleted the xorg.conf.

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-video-ati

when I rebooted, the laptop screen (I have dual monitor, with a samsung
lcd monitor too) wasn't flickering anymore, but the LCD screen wasn't in
the correct resolution. Then I set up the monitors resolution, the
system asked me to logout and the flickering was back.

So I installed the fglrx packages again:

$ sudo apt-get install fglrx*

When I rebooted, the flickering was still present. Then I wrote:

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-core

And when I rebooted the flickering was gone, but... "Desktop Effects
can't be enabled".

What can I do?

Gaba, I managed to upgrade after uninstalling the same
(xserver-xorg-video-nouveau). Upgrade was thru download. The problem now
is that 10.10 is very slow. Have been trying to uninstall it but have
failed so far.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725202] Re: X crashes on startup in evdev_drv

2011-03-01 Thread Chase Douglas
Please test the xserver-xorg-input-evdev package here:

http://people.canonical.com/~cndougla/utouch/

I believe this should resolve the issue. If so, I'll try to get this in
before Alpha 3 is released.
