Sorry Timo, you should think about the remove again. Or can you say,
that the touchscreen optimized code is implemented into the evdev
package?

At least natty should use evdev out of the box, so if you continue to
have issues please file a new bug against xserver-xorg-input-evdev

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736137] [NEW] I can't use visual effects

2011-03-16 Thread DarkRedman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Hello everyone,

I use Ubuntu 10.10 x86

When I reboot my computer to Ubuntu. This time I had no visual effects
and the shortcuts to move from one workspace to another doesn't work. I
check the visual effects and there are set to None.

I set it to Extra but an error occurs Visual effects could not be
activated.

But I don't know from where the error comes, I checked the driver of my
graphic card, all is right about that.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702090] 702090 bug/ follow up

2011-03-16 Thread Lokihincens
I've done the suggested updates from my update-manager - and now my inux does
not boot anymore the GUI.
after a normal boot it stops with the state Checking battery state... OK (I
run it on a desktop machine, so no big surprise)

and then: nothing more

hitting strg+alt+F1I am able to login to command line.
I did the
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get uprade

everything's up to date (except 5 packages from the old openoffice-
language-hyphenation-something don't know exactly).

nothing's changed.

What can I do?

cheers

The vesafb driver, used in the kernel as a default fall-back and (sometimes)
for plymouth, can interfere with the loading of the Intel drm driver during
boot. This conflict can result in a GPU hang. Sometimes (in the case of
this bug report), X can recover from this GPU hang by resetting the GPU. In
other cases the GPU may not be resettable for some reason, resulting in an
 unrecoverable system hang.

I'm assuming this is because my suspend failed but I also had a black screen
on boot until X started so perhaps it was something plymouth related.

On my system there are font glitches (screenshot attached), but they are
not as heavy as in the other screenshots.

$ lspci | grep VGA

System: Up-to-date natty with linux 2.6.38 kernel from the kernel PPA.
The drm-next and drm-intel-next kernels have the same issue, the kernel
in the official archive produces GPU lockups (bug #718870).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 735602] [NEW] FFE: add xinput-calibrate to natty

2011-03-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The evdev driver needs a calibrator for touchscreens, since -evtouch is
obsolete and the calibrator that was shipped with it doesn't work with
evdev.

From [1]:

A generic touchscreen calibration program for X.Org.

xinput_calibrator is created to fill the gap of touchscreen calibration
software, featuring:

works for any standard Xorg touchscreen driver (uses XInput protocol)
mis-click detection (prevents bogus calibration)
dynamically recalibrates the evdev driver
outputs the calibration as xorg.conf.d snippet or HAL policy file
and more

We need it, because there is no calibrator left after evtouch is
removed.

The author has packaged it for several distributions, including Debian
and Ubuntu, and the package has gone through Debian Mentor review [2]
(most of which have been fixed since). The packaging is currently at the
same place as the upstream code [3], but will move got git.debian.org
under pkg-xorg team maintenance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736373] [NEW] monitor not working with savage driver

2011-03-16 Thread Leo Arias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-savage

I've just installed lubuntu alternate 10.10 on a machine with a savage video
card and a monitor Samsung SyncMaster 591s.

says Hz ?.

I generated the xorg.conf file, and changed from the savage driver to

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 725580] Re: black screen on boot on radeon 9200

2011-03-16 Thread Sergey Shnatsel Davidoff
Thanks to Ubiquity fixes that landed today, I've installed the complete
OS on a USB flash disk, but it did some really weird things; nomodeset
option didn't fix the installed system, though it did fix the LiveCD
boot. The problem is in GDM now; even with nomodeset option I get Compiz
crashes (bug #725569), nux crash (bug #725570), and now GDM is not
working too!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573006] [NEW] Touch screen driver clicks at wrong location

2011-03-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Lucid, the touch screen of my Latitude 2100 is no longer handled by
evtouch, but some other touchscreen driver having the following bug:

When I press my finger agains the screen, the expected behaviour is that the
cursor clicks at the location where my finger is.
However, it clicks at the location where the pointer currently is and
_afterwards_ moves to the location of my finger, what of course results in a
selection between the original and the new position.

How can I find out which touchscreen driver is currently active?
I'd like to have a look at it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573006] Re: Touch screen driver clicks at wrong location

2011-03-16 Thread Chase Douglas
Hi nh2,

To help us reproduce the issue, please generate a recording of your
touchscreen. Instructions may be found here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Multitouch/Testing/uTouchEvEmu#Debugging

Because this bug involves the X evdev input module, you do not need to
do any VT switching. You can skip steps 3, 4 and 9. Please attach the
device.prop and device.record files to the bug.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599017] Re: [gm45] Xorg freeze on Firefox on one particular page

2011-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Etienne, thanks for providing the information that was requested.

However, you can see from the contents of intel_error_decode.txt that no
data was captured in this case. The two log files also do not appear to
contain relevant error messages. Please note that these things need to
be collected after reproducing the issue while the system is still
frozen (by sshing into it), but before rebooting. intel_error_decode
may need to be run as sudo too, I don't recall if this was required on
Lucid.

I attempted loading this URL in firefox on a 945 running Natty,
reloading the page 30 times, as well as letting it sit idle for 20 min
but did not reproduce it. Also I did 30 reloads and 20 min idle on a
965 running the same code, and did not reproduce it there either. So
this supports comment #10 that the issue was likely fixed during
Maverick development.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 735122] Re: Samsung Q35 trackpad unreliable in Maverick

2011-03-16 Thread Laura Cowen
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I recently installed Maverick fresh on my Samsung Q35 laptop. Since
then, the trackpad has been unreliable. When dragging and dropping (ie
keeping the left mouse button down while moving a finger across the
trackpad), if I run out of trackpad I lift and move my finger while
continuing to hold the mouse button down and then continue moving my
finger across the trackpad (like you do with the mouse when you run out
  of desk).

- On Maverick, if I lift and restart dragging my finger too quickly (in
- some applications anyway), the trackpad seems to interpret that as
- having 'dropped' whatever it is I'm dragging and dropping. Leading to
- fun trying to track down emails that have ended up in the wrong
- folder... It seems to affect some applications better or worse than
- others. Sometimes if I'm slow at lifting then replacing my finger, it's
- fine (it realises I'm still in the same drag-drop process) but sometimes
- it's really tricky to do that. It's also unnatural.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573006] Re: Touch screen driver clicks at wrong location

2011-03-16 Thread nh2
In this record, I first swipe from bottom left to top right. Then I
press at bottom left, the cursor stays at its position, and only when I
move my finger a bit, it jumps to my finger, but clicking before the
move so that everything in between gets mouse-box-selected.
