[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 734756] Re: Blank screen when booting with external monitor
I reoponed the bug, the problem is still there. When booting with external monitor attached, I get a black screen just when X starts (I don't even see the login screen). Ctrl-Alt-1 gives me a prompt but Ctrl-Alt-7 just gives me a black screen. When attaching an external monitor to an already running system all is fine and I get my desktop on both external and internal monitor. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/734756 Title: Blank screen when booting with external monitor ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737755] Re: Natty: Cannot boot with proprietary NVIDIA driver for GeForce 8800 GT.
Can I add that I experienced exactly the same problem with a Geforce 8600GT after installing Nvidia's proprietary [Recommended] driver on a fresh natty64 install, but as with the OP, it was fixed with a fresh natty install the following week (previous install also had message regarding ABI). I post because I also experience glxgears bringing the system to a state where it can run still, but is extremely slow. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741649] [NEW] Slow performance with lots of text
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-current I work using eclipse (gtk), konsole(qt) and keep firefox (gtk), kmail (qt) apps open in my kubuntu desktop (plasma, no desktop effects). After a while -- feels like related to the amount of text displayed (opened eclipse tabs, open konsole tabs, the amount of data in konsole and eclipse console), not depending on the amount of time used -- everything slows down considerably. GTK apps gradually slow down first, followed by sudden slow down of qt apps. Example of qt slowing down is kmail writing responding to typing with delay of 0.5 ... 2 seconds (per character typed). Closing all applications and restarting them fixes the slowdown. The problem began at 10.10, and persists even when using x-swat latest nvidia packages. QT raster rendering does not help the problem. I guess there's not much that can be done, expect I try to monitor the X resource usage. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736500] Re: very jumpy cursor with wacom-dkms
Chase: I'm running cellwriter. I will try to disable it and see what happens. My girlfriend has a different Wacom tablet, so I will see if I can reproduce this with her hardware, too. I will also try a live-usb (+utouch ppas). I'll post my results here when I've gotten round to it. One more thought: is 'use xinput' enabled in your copy of Xournal? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522061] Re: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed
I tested Matin's suggestion. The fallback works properly if /etc/X11/xorg.conf is simply not present. I moved the nvidia-current.ko aside, restarted. The X.org.0 shows that the order of preference for the autoconfigured drivers is: 0: nvidia 1: nouveau 2: nv 3: vesa 4: fbdev. In this case, nouveau is chosen. Metacity starts. Jockey ('Additional Drivers') shows that Nvidia is activated and currently in use, even though lsmod, Xorg.0.log and glxinfo concur that it is not in use. I restored the nvidia driver file. I was tried to switch drivers by logging out and in, but nouveau was still used. Then I restarted gdm, but nouveau was still used. I didn't try rmmod and modprobe. After rebooting, however, nvidia was used again as the preferred default. The only (minor) disadvantage is that the nVidia splash screen displays (for 1 second) when it loads, because the 'Option NoLogo True' is no longer being read from the non-existant xorg.conf This is with Natty Daily 2011-03-18 Linux 2.6.38.7.21 nvidia-current 270.30-0ubuntu3 xorg 1:7.6~3ubuntu11 amd64/mac GeForce GT 330M -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522061 Title: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522061] Re: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed
Chad A. Davis [2011-03-24 21:49 -]: I tested Matin's suggestion. The fallback works properly if /etc/X11/xorg.conf is simply not present. Thanks. That's actually kind of surprising, as in the past we at least needed to set DisplayDepth to 24, and some other bits. The only (minor) disadvantage is that the nVidia splash screen displays (for 1 second) when it loads, because the 'Option NoLogo True' is no longer being read from the non-existant xorg.conf Right. Perhaps you could do the same test again, but this time don't remove xorg.conf entirely, but just drop the Driver option and leave the other bits in place? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522061 Title: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434956] Re: screen backlight off after resume-from-suspend when using ATI KMS
Not sure if mine is exactly the same issue: Maverick 64 bit, ATI graphics card Suspend and hibernate worked on 10.04. Following upgrade (clean install) failed to resume from suspend and hibernate. pm-log indicated success, computer powers up, but display is blank. Could successfully suspend/hibernate and resume from recovery console using pm-suspend/hibernate. Adding radeon.modeset=0 meant that suspend and resume now work But this messed up my dual monitor configuration and had to create xorg.conf file. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/434956 Title: screen backlight off after resume-from-suspend when using ATI KMS ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 742157] [NEW] touchpad cannot deactivate RTCornerButton and RBCornerButton
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Middle Click pastes text for example. Thats good with a mouse. Thats not good with a touchpad, because I have my fingers usually under the space key and thats where the touchpad is. That means I am pasting whatever is in my clipboard when i accidently touch the touchpad. Even more problematic is that you cannot deactive that!! /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf adding options to some other keys do not work, it simply ignores it. there is no gnome too to deactive it and i do not like to install kde-config-touchpad, which actually is able to change this however. I want that it works to add Option RTCornerButton 1 and that it is no longer making a middle click what is 2. i don't know why it simply ignores the option! i think it is really annoying that the touchpad is randomly pasting clipboard text!!
