[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741349] Re: Screen Corruption (font glitches)

2011-03-24 Thread HeWhoE
Since at least version 10.04, I have had a font glitch problem in
Firefox when I use Compiz.

My graphics device:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS,
943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Attached is a small screenshot of some glitched text.

** Attachment added: Glitched text in Firefox when Compiz compositing manager
is on.

2011-03-24 Thread ppc123
Get and install the package xserver-xephyr_1.7.6-2ubuntu7.6_i386.deb instead,
and everything will be fine.
(That's the version of Xephyr in Lucid)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 734756] Re: Blank screen when booting with external monitor

2011-03-24 Thread feffemannen
I reoponed the bug, the problem is still there.

When booting with external monitor attached, I get a black screen just
when X starts (I don't even see the login screen). Ctrl-Alt-1 gives me a
prompt but Ctrl-Alt-7 just gives me a black screen.

When attaching an external monitor to an already running system all is
fine and I get my desktop on both external and internal monitor.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
   Status: Fix Released = New

(even if it was not resolved) I am fairly sure it would be a duplicate

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737755] Re: Natty: Cannot boot with proprietary NVIDIA driver for GeForce 8800 GT.

2011-03-24 Thread Richard
Can I add that I experienced exactly the same problem with a Geforce
8600GT after installing Nvidia's proprietary [Recommended] driver on a
fresh natty64 install, but as with the OP, it was fixed with a fresh
natty install the following week (previous install also had message
regarding ABI). I post because I also experience glxgears bringing the
system to a state where it can run still, but is extremely slow. Will
wait for next weeks test to see if it improves.

Installing xorg 1.9 from maverick solves the problem, no more artefacts and
glitches.
So the issue (regression) is in xorg 1.10.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741649] [NEW] Slow performance with lots of text

2011-03-24 Thread Joonas Koivunen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-current

I work using eclipse (gtk), konsole(qt) and keep firefox (gtk), kmail
(qt) apps open in my kubuntu desktop (plasma, no desktop effects).

After a while -- feels like related to the amount of text displayed
(opened eclipse tabs, open konsole tabs, the amount of data in konsole
and eclipse console), not depending on the amount of time used --
everything slows down considerably.

GTK apps gradually slow down first, followed by sudden slow down of qt
apps.

Example of qt slowing down is kmail writing responding to typing with
delay of 0.5 ... 2 seconds (per character typed).

Closing all applications and restarting them fixes the slowdown.

The problem began at 10.10, and persists even when using x-swat latest
nvidia packages. QT raster rendering does not help the problem.

I guess there's not much that can be done, expect I try to monitor the X
resource usage.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 702961] [NEW] After boot of Ubuntu 10.04 the screen stay black (Dell E6510 with NVidia GT218 [NVS 3100M]

2011-03-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The installation of Ubuntu 10.04 on Dell Latitude E6510 goes fine, but
after start the screen stays blank. I guess open source drivers are
broken. The only workaround is to somehow install close source drivers.
I.e. but chrooting into system from live environment.

This is related to bug #689684.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741668] [NEW] screen flashes continously alternating background and borderless windows

2011-03-24 Thread Prunus dulcis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I tried out the daily build of ubuntu natty and after a minute of
surfing in the net the screen got corrupted (all covered in jagged
lines) and then showed the background image and windows flashing up
without borders continously alternating. I switched to console mode
(CTRL+Alt + F2) and filed this bug report. I will try to attach pics of
it later.

1) Description: Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

2)apt-cache policy xorg
xorg:
  Installiert: 1:7.6~3ubuntu11
  Kandidat:1:7.6~3ubuntu11

3) working desktop environment

4) flashing screen without reaction to anything but changing to console
mode (CTRL+ALT+F2)

You wouldn't happen to be running any other gesture or input-related

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736500] Re: very jumpy cursor with wacom-dkms

2011-03-24 Thread Timo Kluck
Chase: I'm running cellwriter. I will try to disable it and see what
happens.

My girlfriend has a different Wacom tablet, so I will see if I can
reproduce this with her hardware, too. I will also try a live-usb
(+utouch ppas). I'll post my results here when I've gotten round to it.

One more thought: is 'use xinput' enabled in your copy of Xournal? When
I disable it, the problems disappear (but there is no pressure-
sensitivity then, so this is no real workaround).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522061] Re: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed

2011-03-24 Thread Martin Pitt
Alberto, Bryce, Chris, do we even need to explicitly set the nvidia
driver in xorg.conf these days? I thought X.org would prefer nvidia
over nv/nouveau now, so perhaps the easiest thing here would be to fix
the jockey handler to not set the driver at all?

I tested Matin's suggestion. The fallback works properly if
/etc/X11/xorg.conf is simply not present.

I moved the nvidia-current.ko aside, restarted. The X.org.0 shows that
the order of preference for the autoconfigured drivers is: 0: nvidia 1:
nouveau 2: nv 3: vesa 4: fbdev. In this case, nouveau is chosen.
Metacity starts.

Jockey ('Additional Drivers') shows that Nvidia is activated and
currently in use, even though lsmod, Xorg.0.log and glxinfo concur that
it is not in use.

I restored the nvidia driver file. I was tried to switch drivers by
logging out and in, but nouveau was still used. Then I restarted gdm,
but nouveau was still used. I didn't try rmmod and modprobe. After
rebooting, however, nvidia was used again as the preferred default.

The only (minor) disadvantage is that the nVidia splash screen displays
(for 1 second) when it loads, because the 'Option NoLogo True' is
no longer being read from the non-existant xorg.conf

This is with

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741963] Re: Cannot switch to virtual consoles (vt#)

2011-03-24 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
You seem to be loading a pretty old kernel - 2.6.35-2-generic. Is that
deliberate? Does it work in 2.6.38-7-generic?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522061] Re: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed

2011-03-24 Thread Martin Pitt
Chad A. Davis [2011-03-24 21:49 -]:
I tested Matin's suggestion. The fallback works properly if
 /etc/X11/xorg.conf is simply not present.

Thanks. That's actually kind of surprising, as in the past we at least
needed to set DisplayDepth to 24, and some other bits.

The only (minor) disadvantage is that the nVidia splash screen displays
(for 1 second) when it loads, because the 'Option NoLogo True' is
no longer being read from the non-existant xorg.conf

Right. Perhaps you could do the same test again, but this time don't
remove xorg.conf entirely, but just drop the Driver option and leave
the other bits in place?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 434956] Re: screen backlight off after resume-from-suspend when using ATI KMS

2011-03-24 Thread Steve Roberts
Not sure if mine is exactly the same issue:

Maverick 64 bit, ATI graphics card

Suspend and hibernate worked on 10.04. Following upgrade (clean install)
failed to resume from suspend and hibernate. pm-log indicated success,
computer powers up, but display is blank.

Could successfully suspend/hibernate and resume from recovery console
using pm-suspend/hibernate.

Adding radeon.modeset=0 meant that suspend and resume now work But
this messed up my dual monitor configuration and had to create xorg.conf
file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 742157] [NEW] touchpad cannot deactivate RTCornerButton and RBCornerButton

2011-03-24 Thread Phil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Middle Click pastes text for example.
Thats good with a mouse.

Thats not good with a touchpad, because I have my fingers usually under
the space key and thats where the touchpad is. That means I am pasting
whatever is in my clipboard when i accidently touch the touchpad.

Even more problematic is that you cannot deactive that!!
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf adding options to some other keys
do not work, it simply ignores it. there is no gnome too to deactive it and i
do not like to install kde-config-touchpad, which actually is able to change
this however.

I want that it works to add Option RTCornerButton 1 and that it is
no longer making a middle click what is 2. i don't know why it simply
ignores the option!

i think it is really annoying that the touchpad is randomly pasting
clipboard text!!
