[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 732304] Re: Intel sandy-bridge dual-head GPU hang
@yope, I see you're running a somewhat older kernel. Can you please update to current natty and check if you can reproduce the issue there? I ask because we've fixed several quite commonly encountered gpu lockups between the kernel this is reported against and current, so want to make sure what you saw is not just an already solved issue. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732304 Title: Intel sandy-bridge dual-head GPU hang ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741349] Re: Screen Corruption (font glitches)
Is this a recent regression on natty, or has it been happening as long as you've been using natty? If the former, when did you first start noticing it? I see you're running compiz. Does it occur when using Classic Desktop (no effects) as well? Do the font glitches occur 100% of the time? Or do they occur only periodically or after certain activities (e.g. scrolling quickly). Are the glitches on the screen permanently or is there some action you can take to clear them (minimizing/maximizing windows, etc.)? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/741349 Title: Screen Corruption (font glitches) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 729944] Re: Flickering backlight on Thinkpad T400
X no longer is in charge of power management for desktops, since a couple years; this is moved out to the desktop environment. On gnome, I'd point you to gnome-power-manager, but I don't know what the analog is on KDE. Talk with the Kubuntu/KDE folks to find out what package in KDE is responsible for power settings, and then target this bug to that package. (Click the downward pointing arrow under 'Affects' and type the correct package name into the Package field. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729944 Title: Flickering backlight on Thinkpad T400 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 713877] Re: No desktop effects and no True Color color depth
If the issue happens before X is even loaded, then that means it's not an X bug. It sounds like plymouth (or perhaps grub or something else in the plumbing layer) put the GPU into a bad state, and so when eventually X came up, it couldn't fire up 3D on it, thus no effects. You might try booting earlier alphas of natty to see if you can bracket when it started. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = plymouth (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/713877 Title: No desktop effects and no True Color color depth ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709896] Re: Lenovo X200s: wrong screen size - wrong DPI
It looks like X is figuring out the correct values, but these days on -intel modesetting is done by the kernel. The kernel establishes the initial mode, dpi settings, detects monitor resolution, and so on, and X does not tinker with them anymore. However, X does expose the kernel functionality to userspace so config tools can update or change the settings. So it could be possible KDE is doing something to force 96 dpi or something. But I'm not familiar enough with KDE to guess. So, I'll bump it over to the kernel to look at. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709896 Title: Lenovo X200s: wrong screen size - wrong DPI ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 680135] Re: natty Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML bad performance
This bug is not actionable as it stands. I don't reproduce this problem and no one else has reported similar behavior in the few months since it was reported so guessing it's either something peculiar to kwin or a configurational issue. Fwiw, for performance bug reports you should provide measurements such as framerate measurements from a game (NOT glxgears; glxgears performance bug reports are not accepted). The general debugging process for such issues when they are regressions from older versions is to identify the most recent version where it worked properly, too. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/680135 Title: natty Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML bad performance ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

@Andy, Colin, I've noticed a significant drop-off in bug reports with the vesafb conflict since that fix went in. (Which is particularly notable since rate of bugs getting reported is definitely going up, as many users seem to be upgrading at this point.) However, mpt seems to still be seeing what looks like basically the same issue as before. (There may be others still seeing it too, but still debugging things.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522061] Re: Nvidia proprietary drivers fallback test failed
Leaving the xorg.conf in place, commenting out the 'Driver' line, also allows driver fallback (nvidia to nouveau) to work correctly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 734756] Re: Blank screen when booting with external monitor
feffemannen, Please run the tool intel_reg_dumper once when the screen is working correctly, and once with it showing the blank screen / out-of-range error, and attach both files. Comparing the register settings for them may highlight where the problem is. Perhaps would also be helpful to have an Xorg.0.log from the failed boot and one from the working boot, to see how X is differing in its capabilities detection. However, ultimately I think this may be a KMS bug. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/734756 Title: Blank screen when booting with external monitor ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This looks similar to another arrandale bug already reported (and forwarded upstream), however I notice you're using some odd non-ubuntu kernel, so not sure if it's a true dupe or just something wrong with that particular kernel. Hi Aditya, this looks similar to a bug believed to be fixed in the 2.6.38-7.36 kernel. Please upgrade to latest kernel and re-test. Hi jimakker, I'm not sure whether this bug is fixed or not, but upstream believes it to be resolved now with a patch included in the 2.6.38-7.36 kernel which is available in latest natty. I'm less certain of that, but I think to move forward we'd need it tested against that (or newer) kernel and a new report filed via the apport dialog. @Bryce, I was running up-to-date versions of everything when I initially posted. I just updated and commented-out the shadow option in my xorg.conf file as you suggest, restarted the X server and until now, no lockups. But the display glitches are back. Should I file a new bug-report for the glitches? ** Attachment added: Sample screenshot showing glitches https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/732304/+attachment/1939479/+files/corrupted-menu.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/732304 Title: Intel sandy-bridge dual-head GPU hang ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

It tends to need memory for doing its stuff. ;-) The reason you can't restart X is because the GPU got left in an inconsistent state (which is probably a bug in itself, but not the primary issue here). It is certainly not so: host2:~$ free total used free sharedbuffers cached Mem: 1533292 807152 726140 0 28352 374208 -/+ buffers/cache: 4045921128700 Swap: 1888252 01888252 But, I can try to help you figure out what actually is causing this bug. (As it is, the info you've collected doesn't really do much to pinpoint what's going on.) Thanks. I will collect necessary data. Can you tell me a little more about your system. Are you booted off a hard drive or usb key or cd? The system boots from compact flash. CF is 100% IDE-compatible. I've no problems with this config since 9.04 or so. How long have you been running natty? I've had natty kernel since 2.6.37-12 or earlier. The CPU on the system is jusy 1.1 MHz single core, so hardware acceleration in new kernels helps a lot. I dist-upgraded to full natty a week ago. When did you start noticing this bug? The problem immediately appeared. Has it happened multiple times? Is happens every boot, sooner or later. What is unique or unusual about your system? It is configured to run from a flash, so most regular writes goes to memory (fstab attached). Other than that, it is a usual Vaio VGN TX- 770P. Does it always happen after about the same period of time? No the period is different. Does running a certain app or combination of apps make it more likely to crash? I haven't run natty long enough to gather data. So long my usual session was several gnome-terminal tabs, firefox and pidgin. I would say that crashes happen when I have pidgin talks, but it is not certain. ** Attachment added: /etc/fstab https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/742175/+attachment/1939566/+files/fstab -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742175 Title: [i915] xserver crashes abruptly (OOM?) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 742380] Re: Error activating xkb configuration
On a system which is the same model as the reporters, which was upgraded from Maverick - with the option previously added, i could not reproduce this behaviour. Additionally, removing the option and re-adding it I could not reproduce. I think this needs to be tested on a fresh installation or livecd... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 522588] Re: nVidia 8600 GTS needs NoPowerConnectorCheck option to work
The best thing we possibly could do is to ensure that the user sees that log message when X fails (i.e . all the (EE) parts of it), as this will be our best bet to see what's failing. I don't want to set this option by default in the jockey handler, as it is not a configuration option as such, but a kind of unbreak this driver quirk. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: High = Medium ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Assignee: Canonical Desktop Team (canonical-desktop-team) = Canonical X.org (canonical-x) ** Summary changed: - nVidia 8600 GTS needs NoPowerConnectorCheck option to work + Ensure that X.org startup failure displays (EE) messages to the user -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/522588 Title: Ensure that X.org startup failure displays (EE) messages to the user ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736500] Re: very jumpy cursor with wacom-dkms
This trivial patch to xournal is a workaround. The surrounding code (a function called 'fix_xinput_coordinates') suggests that this bug has existed (in xinput? gdk?) for some time already. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737891] [NEW] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils While trying to connect external monitors through VGA in my Lenovo x201 with Intel HD Video graphics, gnome-display-properties fails to correctly display in the external monitors IF LVDS is set to off. If LVDS is kept on, then external monitors work correctly (Note that I'm not duplicating screens between LVDS and the external monitors). To reproduce, do as follows: 1. Connect external monitor to VGA output. 2. Launch gnome-display-properties and enable external monitors. 3. At this point, both LVDS and external monitor should be working just fine. 4. Using gnome-display-properties, turn off LVDS. 5. At this point, the image in the external monitor looks like [1]. Now, note that when disabling LVDS with xrandr instead of gnome-display- properties, then the external monitors have a correct image and [1] is not reproduced.
