[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 705949] Re: (Needs Q4 -intel) [Arrandale] Gateway NV79 Backlight and Monitor trouble

2011-03-26 Thread Scott Davis
I'm glad to finally find some references to my exact problem, but it
looks like they've died out. Anyway, yes, it's a real problem.
Everything worked fine for six months then release 2.6.35-27 killed it
for me. (Unless I keep an external monitor around to plug into.)

Sad really. This is the longest I've been able to stick with Linux, but
after 2 weeks of banging my head against the wall it looks like it's
back to Windows.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741377] Re: Mouse Pad unusable on HP-DV7, Left Click and multitouch

2011-03-26 Thread lazyfirecloud
>From the forum, it looks like it affects all HP users with the 2-in-1
click trackpad. There are several models. I have the same issue with my
dm4t. It used to work under Lucid (although it was pretty difficult to
hit still). Now there is no longer any right-click support whatsoever. I
have to plug a mouse to right-click.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740397] Re: Weekly natty snapshot won't boot with proprietary nvidia driver

2011-03-26 Thread Havard Bjastad
Attached also the output from dmesg command.
If I remove xorg.conf, the boot process completes and gdm is loaded. I am then
able to log in and get a desktop without Unity. If I try to go the the nvidia
config, it says that the nvidia driver is not active.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 743331] [NEW] [945GME] old window contents left on background

2011-03-26 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

This is an asus 1001ha netbook; I'm running off a natty daily iso and having
found the installer was struggling on the small screen I plugged in my dell
s2409w 1920x1080 lcd.
It's correctly set it up and the contents of the window are rendered ok, but if
I drag a window the old contents of the window are left on the background in
various places - so I have 3 or 4 copies of parts of the contents of my
terminal window from where it previously was.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741349] Re: Screen Corruption (font glitches)

2011-03-26 Thread Benjamin Drung
These font glitches have been there as long as I've been using natty,
but they seems to be gone with the update two days ago. They appeared
randomly and I didn't discovered a pattern. I didn't find an activity to
trigger this bug. IIRC, minimizing the window did not clear the
glitches, but selecting a different channel (in Xchat) or folder (in
Evolution) helped.

Yup - I just updated to 10.10, the issue persists. Same with Leonardo,
it is just the DVI monitor that has the problem. (As has always been the
case)

Today I updated (to kernel 2.6.38-7.39), the problem still remains. But
I have interesting observation. The freeze always (as I remember) occurs
while I was using Google Chrome. After switching to firefox (after
update), Unity seems stable (so far, nothing crashed).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727979] Re: Screen flicker approx. every 30 seconds

2011-03-26 Thread Silvio-frischi
I have the same problem on natty64 with VGA video projectors.

I tested it with two computers with two different drivers (xf86-video-ati,
xf86-video-nouveau).
I tested it with three different video projector.
I tested it with three different VGA cables.
I tested it with kernels 2.6.35, 2.6.37, 2.6.38
I tested it with libdrm(i.e. libkms) 2.4.21, 2.4.23 (remark here i didn't
reboot)

And it always flickered (with exception 3. projector see below).

Remark with two of three projectors I used addmode since the drivers
didn't recognize the native resolution of the beamer.

Everything always worked well if I used my old Gentoo (2.6.33 - but with
KMS,ati and with addmode)

With the 3. projector in natty it worked properly because it recognized the
native resolution. But if I
added an other resolution to it and changed to that it flickered again.

so it's possible It has some thing to do with --addmode

I think this worked on Maverik but I'm not sure since I didn't use --addmode
much
Did any of the others here use addmode?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 709505] Re: [MASTER] fglrx failed to install/upgrade due to being incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel

2011-03-26 Thread HuK
This helped me:

Patching Catalyst 10-12 Source

(This section to be removed once Catalyst supports Xserver 1.10) Catalyst 10-12
needs patched for compliance with kernel version 2.6.37 before you can install
it.
$ cd ~/; mkdir catalyst10.12; cd catalyst10.12/
$ wget
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver-installer-10-12-x86.x86_64.run
$ chmod +x ati-driver-installer-10-12-x86.x86_64.run
$ ./ati-driver-installer-10-12-x86.x86_64.run --extract driver
$ cd driver
$ wget http://ubuntuone.com/p/WVN/firegl_public.c
$ wget http://ubuntuone.com/p/WVU/Makefile
$ mv firegl_public.c common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/
$ mv Makefile common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/2.6.x/
$ sudo ./ati-installer.sh 8.801 --buildpkg Ubuntu/natty
$ cd ..
$ sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb

[edit] Catalyst and Unity

At this time, Catalyst doesn't work with the new Ubuntu desktop (Unity).
You can still use the classic GNOME desktop (or another desktop
environment).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 491483] Re: Since failsafe-x was enabled in karmic it starts if gdm is disabled and kdm is used. (low graphics mode error)

2011-03-26 Thread tonyw
This bug still re-appears in lucid. The underlying problem seems to be
that /etc/init.d/failsafe-x.conf is in the wrong package. x11-common
should know nothing about gdm and yet here is a gdm referencing file, so
as soon as you stop using gdm 2.3, the system is broken. This file
should be in the gdm package - along with its supporting cast of files,
or perhaps in a separate package where there is need for common elements
amongst display managers.

I came up against this problem with re-deploying gdm 2-20 in the lucid
environment (to get multi-seat working).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683905] Re: Xorg locks up after crash with Radeon HD5670 and dual-monitor setup

2011-03-26 Thread Lennart Norell
I did a new install of Ubuntu 10.10 and was hit by this bug. My graphic card is
ATI HD 3400.
I have also confirmed that the bug is due to the rotation of my left monitor.

Does this bug affect also 10.04? I.e. can I get around this problem by
installing that instead?

Lennart
