[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 647665] Re: Xorg freeze on Asus m51ta
Getting similar issues with the 5650. From my post on the Ubuntu forums quoteatombios stuck executing CB9E I have a very strange issue. Whenever I logout of my Gnome session I am taken to a console where I see an error message that keeps repeating (see image here http://goo.gl/U2R0y ): The key thing is says is: atombios stuck executing CB9E. After about 30-45 seconds of watching the text, it goes back into GDM where I can log in normally. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat 64bit My laptop is an Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG The Video Card (which I suspect the issue is coming from) is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. Does anyone have a clue as to what the issue could be? If so, I would appreciate any advice on how to get rid of it./quote -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647665 Title: Xorg freeze on Asus m51ta ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Summary of what was discussed and tested: * shipping a libcairo2-gl which would conflicts, replaces, provides libcairo2 wouldn't work since provides are not versioned and that wouldn't satisfy the dependencies of most of binaries dependy currently on libcairo2 - we need a new binary installable at the same time as libcairo2 and tweak ld paths * the rules was updated to add a gl build flavor, it means cairo get built without gl and and an extra time with gl * copying the gl build library in a new directory, that would work for runtime but is not enough for builds since the .pc and the .so don't point to the right variant, building with gl also creates some new cairo-gl.pc which need to be installed - we need a libcairo-gl-dev binary, the binary needs to be installable at the same time than libcairo-dev due to the same reason than the library (the provides are not versioned which would mean it can't be installed as a replacement) * installing only the extra .pc in a different path wouldn't work since that would lead to inconsistencies in the cairo installation - the standard path needs to be used for those .pc * If the .pc don't point to the right directory to build with gl it would mean wayland softwares that need cairo-gl would need hacks to point to the right directory * The libcairo-gobject library should build with the correct variant to avoid have 2 different libcairo be loaded by libcairo-gobject users so we would probably need a libcairo-gobject-gl as well The work starts being non trivial from there and it will lead to a solution that need hacks in softwares that want to use cairo-gl, does anybody has a better suggestion on what to do next? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725434 Title: Nvidia drivers lead to extra memory usage for each process using libGL ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744901] Re: xrandr shows wrong refresh rate
If I switch with NVIDA X server settings I can put it to 60Hz and xrandr will display the correct refresh rate. Switching back to 50Hz also gives correct xrandr values. So probably the init is done on 50Hz instead of 60Hz. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744901] Re: xrandr shows wrong refresh rate
Discard my remark about correct xrandr values, I apparently put my glasses upside down. Xrandr gives: 1920x1080 50.0 51.0 52.0* 156.0 at startup it's at 50Hz but switching with nvidia settings every time switches between 52 and 156Hz. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744909] [NEW] NVIDIA X server settings crashes while changing resolution
Public bug reported: I'll changed from 1920x1080 to 900x600. I cancel and found (after 'cleaning' the black with a window) Server settings not running anymore. When I redid the same procedure I again got a crash, now with this message: Your current changes to the X server display configuration may no longer be applied due to changes made to the running X server. You may either reload the current X server settings and lose any configuration setup in this page, or select Cancel and save your changes to the X configuration file (requires restarting X to take effect.) [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726807] Re: drawing of drop down boxes produces artifacts temporarily
I'm not sure if this is the same issue, but when I right click on the desktop in Xorg 2:1.10.0-0ubuntu2 I often get this result: http://i.imgur.com/Ou9QJ.png As you can see, parts of the window and terminal aren't redrawn (and they probably shouldn't be, the menu never covered the window nor the panel). The artifacts persists until I force the panel and window to redraw by moving them around or switching workspace. It seems to happen more often when I right click in the lower left corner of the desktop. I also often get some strange results when a window is set to always on top and visible on all workspaces and I switch workspace: http://i.imgur.com/Vdr0x.png I have an Intel 945GM GPU and the patch fixed a few other artifacts. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736523] Re: cannot left click and drag with touchpad (regression)
Contrary to what I wrote earlier, this is best described not as a kernel bug but as a deficiency with the X synaptics input module. I made some changes to how it handles multi-finger functionality and I believe it works much better as a result. However, the changes are larger than I would like this late in the Natty cycle, so testing is important. I uploaded a new version of xserver- xorg-input-synaptics to ppa:utouch-team/unstable. Please test out the package to confirm that it fixes any issues you have and does not introduce any regressions. The only remaining issue that I see occasionally is a second light touch warping the pointer from one location to another half way across the screen. To get this fixed will require better filtering logic, but the fix will require too large of a change at this point in the Natty cycle. Perhaps we can fix it in Oneiric. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Milestone: None = ubuntu-11.04-beta-2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/736523 Title: cannot left click and drag with touchpad (regression) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726902] Re: Loss of vsync when using Metacity.
I noticed the same thing in Natty with Xv textured video on Intel i945GM. The tearing seems to disappear when using Xv video overlay. You can try this in mplayer with the following command: $ mplayer -vo xv:adaptor=1 file Or by setting XvPreferOverlay to true in xorg.conf, the intel man page says the following about XvPreferOverlay: Make hardware overlay be the first XV adaptor. The overlay behaves incorrectly in the presence of compositing, but some prefer it due to it syncing to vblank in the absence of compositing. While most XV- using applications have options to select which XV adaptor to use, this option can be used to place the overlay first for applications which don't have options for selecting adaptors. Default: Textured video adaptor is preferred. i'm not sure I had this problem in Maverick as the man page says that textured video does not sync to vblank. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745304] [NEW] Graphics corruption after hibernate with Intel GMA 3150 chipset
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel I have three netbooks using the Atom N450 processor with GMA 3150 graphics. All of these systems exhibit graphics corruption after resuming from hibernate. The leftmost 3/4 of the screen is severely corrupted, and the right-most 1/4 of the screen is rendered correctly. The mouse pointer is drawn correctly no matter where it is on the screen, even when it is over the corrupted area. This bug is 100% reproducible and happens on both i386 and amd64 builds. I'm not sure if this is the right package to report this bug against, but hopefully it will serve as a starting point. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 742567] Re: multitouch events do not respect swap/invert axes properties
The evdev driver has the capability to swap and invert axes, but it is not how I would recommend doing this anymore. As you point out, those properties only affect pointer motion events. While we could extend the functionality to touch events, a better resolution would be to use the X server's Coordinate Transformation Matrix property. This bug inspired me to write a wiki page all about coordinate transformation in X :). You can find it at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/InputCoordinateTransformation This will properly translate event coordinates for both pointer and touch events, though touch valuators will always be in device coordinates. Note that while the functionality is difficult and cumbersome to use today, the hope is we will be able to integrate it into some form of display settings UI in the future. Since there is a better solution for the desired functionality, I'm going to mark this bug as Won't Fix. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744901] Re: xrandr shows wrong refresh rate
Looks like your monitor simply has wrong EDID values in it. The nvidia driver is ignoring what the monitor says its capable of and firing things up at 50Hz. It appears to believe your monitor's firmware was encoded incorrectly. So, seems to be more of a hardware bug than nvidia or X. From the logs look like software is compensating for the hardware problem. Other than the unexpected refresh rate value setting are you noticing any visible issues?
