[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 557829] Re: [RS780MC] overheats computer
This bug affected me too. I got my Natty beta 1 fresh installed yesterday, at first I feel my hardware become hotter than they are in Maverick. As lm-sensors results, CPU temp is now around 64-70 and GPU is around 70-72 at idle, this kills my hand. I think this is about Unity 3D related issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 564572] Re: no image when booting with GeForce 8400M
Hm. So, what appears to be happening here - from your picture - is that nouveau doesn't know how to drive your laptop display. I presume the binary nvidia driver works in this case? If the binary nvidia driver works, it's likely that an mmio-trace of it correctly initialising the display will be useful for fixing this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747069] Re: [natty beta-1] Screen flashes on and of every few seconds with nouveau driver
From your logs it looks like the problem is that something is probing the VGA output repeatedly, and you're the lucky owner of some hardware that flickers when probed (it's not uncommon). You could check this by adding “drm_kms_helper.poll=0” on the kernel command line; that should disable polling on the VGA (and, indeed, all other) output. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747069 Title: [natty beta-1] Screen flashes on and of every few seconds with nouveau driver ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The flicker isn't related to activity and occurs every 20-30 seconds, with both the 2.6.38-7-generic kernel from the natty repository and 2.6.39-rc1 from the kernel PPA. Similarly both Unity and 'Ubuntu classic' interfaces are affected. If I need to switch to a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F2) because my X has locked up, it is almost impossible to login because when you enter your password there is no way to tell if a key has been repeated and so I keep entering invalid passwords. Should I be raising my issue as a different bug as this is too general? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 750259] [NEW] Dual screen not working/shows corruption
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Dual screen over VGA is no longer working for me under Natty. It used to work fine under maverick, but since the upgrade it just shows corruption/flickering screen. Whenever I'm using one screen it is working fine, and when I plug in my second screen my main (internal laptop) screen turns itself off and the external monitor keeps flickering at high frequency, showing random colours and sometimes little pieces of background. It doesn't matter whether the monitor is plugged in at boot or not. I have reasons to believe that the intel driver or xorg causes the problems because the GRUB and the login screen work both fine on both screens at the same time. As soon as I'm logged in this behaviour shows. It also doesn't matter if I'm using classic GNOME or the Unity interface. Xorg.0.log and dmesg are not showing any errors. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728643] Re: Kinetic scrolling improperly interacts with modifier keys
Hi pablomme, I believe we can distill your thoughts down to two issues: 1. Stopping scrolling when synaptics moves the pointer 2. Stopping scrolling when any other input module moves the pointer or presses a key The first is simple and is implemented as far as I can tell. If I scroll fast with momentum and then touch again to drag the mouse, the scrolling stops. The second is much trickier and would be very difficult to implement without creating some sort of protocol and mechanism for input modules to talk to each other or for an input module to query the state of another input device. If you have thoughts on this, I would suggest commenting on the upstream bug at x.org, which is linked to at the top of this bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728643 Title: Kinetic scrolling improperly interacts with modifier keys ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747611] Re: [natty] two-finger-scroll stopped working after today's update
Hi Eric, Enabling two touch actions, such as scrolling and right clicking, by default for these trackpads was a new addition to synaptics in Natty. However, we noticed that it caused a regression when the default values were not reasonable for some devices. In the upstream synaptics input module project, the change has already been reverted, just like we have done in Natty. I am sorry that this is an inconvenience for you, but you may follow the steps outlined in comment #1 to restore the functionality you had. Unfortunately, it's the best we can do under the circumstances. One resolution to this issue may be to add an option to the mouse preferences to use pressure for two finger actions, but this should be developed upstream in the Gnome project first. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747611 Title: [natty] two-finger-scroll stopped working after today's update ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 488152] Re: [RV710] With ATI restricted driver deactivated, GPU is overheating
My laptop is still running at above 70 degrees celsius in Natty with the opensource driver when started up, so most probably including the thermal monitoring improvements didn't fix it, and while using fglrx (only in classic mode, as Unity does have other fglrx issues) the temperature usually doesn't go above 50 degrees celsius. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 647665] Re: Xorg freeze on Asus m51ta
This bug was fixed upstream in kernel 2.6.37. From the changelog: commit a93f344d3c04e4b84490c65f2a574387c593be40 Author: Alex Deucher Date: Mon Dec 20 11:22:29 2010 -0500 drm/radeon/kms: reorder display resume to avoid problems On resume, we were attemping to unblank the displays before the timing and plls had be reprogrammed which led to atom timeouts waiting for things that are not yet programmed. Re-program the mode first, then reset the dpms state. This fixes the infamous atombios timeouts on resume. Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher Cc: sta...@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Dave Airlie Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal is using the 2.6.38 kernel. This patch was also included upstream in kernel 2.6.36.3. As Denis mentioned in comment #6 that he could no longer reproduce the bug with the Ubuntu mainline 2.6.36.1-natty kernel I suspect he either got lucky or Ubuntu backported the patch. Anyway, it's fixed now. I've never attempted to install a newer kernel version on an Ubuntu release, but I've read about other people doing it without problems. If you want to try it, it is probably wiser to use the 2.6.36.x series rather than the 2.6.38.x series - you are less likely to need a newer version of libdrm. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/647665 Title: Xorg freeze on Asus m51ta ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #738712. However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the problem is in a dependent package. ** Tags removed: need-duplicate-check ** Tags added: regression-retracer -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/750439 Title: [i915gm] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x7d99) ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
