This is also affecting me. To add on, it affects not just easystroke, but any other app that uses mouse right-click. Further, this behaviour seem to make the right mouse click is stuck once you click on it. In some cases, it seem to extend to left-click as well. So in Google Chrome, the grab to scroll extension is stuck with it as a result. I tried classic desktop (no effects) (at login) and the fglrx driver, but I still have flashes a few times per minute. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758593] [NEW] input (mouse) hangs every 30 sec
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Most noticeable is, that my mouse hangs every 30 sec. How I reproduce this problem and make it visible: 1. start glxgears 2. move the mouse in circles 3. mouse should hang every 30 sec. you should also see a drop in fps in glxgears This is the terminal output: 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.153 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.151 FPS short mouse hanger 295 frames in 5.0 seconds = 58.951 FPS lower fps 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.153 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.151 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.151 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.149 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.152 FPS short mouse hanger 293 frames in 5.0 seconds = 58.553 FPS lower fps 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.150 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.150 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.154 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.151 FPS 301 frames in 5.0 seconds = 60.151 FPS short mouse hanger 294 frames in 5.0 seconds = 58.752 FPS lower fps If I do not move the mouse I don't have any hangs. I am not 100% sure if this problem is related to xorg but I have tried a newer kernel (2.6.39-daily) and several older versions of xserver-xorg-inut-evdev and the problem was still present. I think some updates from last week (4–7 Apr 2011) introduced this regression. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758660] [NEW] nvidia dev package[s] are missing provides for libgl-dev
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-185-dev The nvidia packages appear to be missing Provides: libgl-dev. This causes any packages that needs an OpenGL development environment to think that mesa is the only option to provide such a thing. So, for example, one can install the nvidia drivers, and then try to install qt4-dev-tools, and apt-get will force-install libgl1-mesa-dev. Jane reproduced the problem, switched to a text console and ran apport- collect. Since the bug is now open on libdrm, only the libdrm hook was run, whereas the xserver-xorg-video-intel one was run originally. This means you don't have the same logs, but hopefully this is what you wanted. I don't see anything of interest in the updated CurrentDmesg.txt or XorgLog.txt, but hopefully I'm wrong. :-) ** Summary changed: - [arrandale] Black screen on boot, associated with GPU lockup (ESR: 0x0001 IPEHR: 0x7a005502) + [arrandale] Black screen on all outputs when external VGA is connected ** Description changed: Steps: - 1. be running maverick - 2. be plugged into an external monitor - 3. run update-manager -d and upgrade to beta 1 - 4. reboot as directed - 5. in GDM, log into the default desktop session + 1. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758674] [NEW] nvidia-current 270.30 claims 8600M GT is not supported
Public bug reported: Upgraded from a clean Lucid installation through Maverick to Natty. Using cryptsetup. (Also tested using a fresh install not using cryptsetup, same problem) After installing nvidia-current using jockey, the cryptsetup prompt on bootup is totally black with a blinking underscore on the top left, so I have to type in the cryptsetup passwort blind, bootup however works fine. After boot, the nvidia drivers are not used, dmesg suggests that the graphics card (8600M GT) is not supported while in fact it should be. It worked fine with Maverick. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747205] Re: [arrandale] Black screen on all outputs when external VGA is connected
I'm not sure if I understand your question, but I think the answer is no. Specifically, I don't notice a difference in behaviour that is dependent on when the monitor is plugged in. I get the same black screen result if I (a) plug the monitor in before logging in (i.e., it goes black after I press enter to actually log in), or (b) if I am already logged in and plug the monitor in (i.e., it goes black). In both cases, unplugging the monitor doesn't return to normal operations - I need to reboot/relogin. Let me know if there are any other logs or debugging steps you'd like me to take. thanks, Jane -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747205 Title: [arrandale] Black screen on all outputs when external VGA is connected ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 756237] Re: wxRuby crashes with segmentation fault in pixman_image_composite32
** Description changed: + Edited: I corrected the repro steps, thanks Marvin + This is a strange one, I'm not sure exactly where the fault lies. Basically, performing almost any operation in a wxRuby app causes a crash in pixman_image_composite32. This crash doesn't occur when running regular wxWidgets apps or wxPython apps. The problem occurs on both ruby 1.8 and 1.9.1. It also occurs across all versions of wxRuby. The bug doesn't show up on all linux distos (success has been reported with Arch linux) but I think that's determined by the version of pixman that the distro is using. To repro: 1. Install ruby 1.9.1: sudo apt-get install ruby1.9.1 - 2. Install the wxWidgets gem: sudo gem1.9.1 install wxruby - 3. Run the wxRuby bigdemo sample: ruby1.9.1 /var/lib/gems/1.9.1/gems/wxruby-2.0.0-x86_64-linux/samples/bigdemo/bigdemo.rb + 2. Install the wxWidgets gem: sudo gem1.9.1 install wxruby-ruby19 + 3. Run the wxRuby bigdemo sample: ruby1.9.1 /var/lib/gems/1.9.1/gems/wxruby-ruby19-2.0.0-x86_64-linux/samples/bigdemo/bigdemo.rb 4. A segmentation fault occurs. - I've got wxRuby working by disabling some code in pixman. In the file pixman/pixman.c, function lookup_composite_function, I ifdef-ed out the following code: - for (i = 0; i N_CACHED_FAST_PATHS; ++i) - { - const pixman_fast_path_t *info = (cache-cache[i].fast_path); + for (i = 0; i N_CACHED_FAST_PATHS; ++i) + { + const pixman_fast_path_t *info = (cache-cache[i].fast_path); - /* Note that we check for equality here, not whether - * the cached fast path matches. This is to prevent - * us from selecting an overly general fast path - * when a more specific one would work. - */ - if (info-op == op - info-src_format == src_format - info-mask_format == mask_format - info-dest_format == dest_format - info-src_flags == src_flags - info-mask_flags == mask_flags - info-dest_flags == dest_flags - info-func) - { - *out_imp = cache-cache[i].imp; - *out_func = cache-cache[i].fast_path.func; + /* Note that we check for equality here, not whether + * the cached fast path matches. This is to prevent + * us from selecting an overly general fast path + * when a more specific one would work. + */ + if (info-op == op + info-src_format == src_format + info-mask_format == mask_format + info-dest_format == dest_format + info-src_flags == src_flags + info-mask_flags == mask_flags + info-dest_flags == dest_flags + info-func) + { + *out_imp = cache-cache[i].imp; + *out_func = cache-cache[i].fast_path.func; - goto update_cache; - } + goto update_cache; + } } The bug doesn't occur after this modified version of pixman has been installed. As far as I can see, the cache-cache[i].fast_path.func pointer is pointing to an invalid location. I think the usual target of these pointers is the following variable in pixman.c: PIXMAN_DEFINE_THREAD_LOCAL (cache_t, fast_path_cache); This thread local variable seems to be uninitialized or filled with garbage when the crash occurs. - Here's a backtrace from ruby 1.9.1 illustrating the crash: -- C level backtrace information --- /usr/lib/libruby-1.9.1.so.1.9(rb_vm_bugreport+0x5f) [0x7fdd5531be8f] /usr/lib/libruby-1.9.1.so.1.9(+0x58a56) [0x7fdd55226a56] /usr/lib/libruby-1.9.1.so.1.9(rb_bug+0xb3) [0x7fdd55226bc3] /usr/lib/libruby-1.9.1.so.1.9(+0xedde5) [0x7fdd552bbde5] /lib/libpthread.so.0(+0xfb40) [0x7fdd54fc0b40] /usr/local/lib/libpixman-1.so.0(pixman_image_composite32+0x300) [0x7fdd4a296700] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(+0x29463) [0x7fdd4b3b9463] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(+0x2a61c) [0x7fdd4b3ba61c] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(+0x2c31d) [0x7fdd4b3bc31d] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(+0x2c55e) [0x7fdd4b3bc55e] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(+0x49f56) [0x7fdd4b3d9f56] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(+0x2243e) [0x7fdd4b3b243e] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(cairo_fill_preserve+0x1d) [0x7fdd4b3a943d] /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2(cairo_fill+0x9) [0x7fdd4b3a9469] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x2a1b0) [0x7fdd43bc91b0] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x248a0) [0x7fdd43bc38a0] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x1eb53) [0x7fdd43bbdb53] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x1f093) [0x7fdd43bbe093] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x1eb53) [0x7fdd43bbdb53] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x1f093) [0x7fdd43bbe093] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x1eb53) [0x7fdd43bbdb53] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x1ef64) [0x7fdd43bbdf64] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(+0x1eb53) [0x7fdd43bbdb53] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(rsvg_handle_render_cairo_sub+0xca) [0x7fdd43bc9b1a] /usr/lib/librsvg-2.so.2(rsvg_handle_get_pixbuf_sub+0x105) [0x7fdd43bca065]

It might be worth trying this: - reproduce the problem - disconnect the VGA - login on a text console via ctrl+alt+f1 - run xrandr -display :0.0 xrandr.txt - run sleep 10;xrandr -display :0.0 --auto --verbose xrandr.txt 21 - within 10 seconds, switch back to X with ctrl+alt+f7 - wait 10 seconds and see if that has any effect (what it *should* do is turn the built-in screen back on). Regardless, it would be useful to get the resulting xrandr.txt file and see what it says. -- - mdz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/747205 Title: [arrandale] Black screen on all outputs when external VGA is connected ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747205] Re: [arrandale] Black screen on all outputs when external VGA is connected
A quick update of my experience - When booting with an external monitor connected to my laptop, I get to the gdm login and successfully enter my password. Once the login event starts occuring, the laptop monitor goes black and the external monitor randomly and quickly flashes colors. I can switch to a terminal; switching back with ctrl+alt+f7 shows BOTH screens as black, but I will now seen a mouse cursor. As a workaround I boot without the montor attached, go to System Properties Multiple Screens, turn OFF the laptop monitor, plug in the external monitor.. and the display correctly comes up on the external. Enabling the laptop monitor again will reproduce the behavior described above. I will be happy to do any diagnostic testing you need when I have access to my machine tonight around 5pm EST. Please advise as to any logs etc which may be of assistance. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop
What's supposed to be responsible for setting capture_before_unmap to true? Right now, it's simply set to true in metacity.schemas, which doesn't fit with how Bill is saying it's supposed to work. I generally notice this problem when switching workspaces, although it doesn't happen in every such situation. The following is a reliable way to reproduce it for me. I have a grid of four horizontal by three vertical workspaces; I have C-A-1, C-A-2, ..., C-A-0 bound to switch to each of the first ten of those twelve workspaces, and C-A-Left, C-A-Right, C-A-Up, and C-A-Down bound to move around the workspace grid in the obvious way. At the moment, I have maximised terminals open in the first three workspaces (and others). If I start from workspace 1, press C-A-3 to switch to workspace 3, then hold down C-A and press Left twice to switch back through workspace 2 to workspace 1, I find that parts of the workspace switcher remain on screen even after releasing C-A. (Don't release C-A between the two Left presses, or this bug won't happen.) I've attached the resulting screen image. ** Attachment added: corruption.png https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/metacity/+bug/740387/+attachment/2024293/+files/corruption.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/740387 Title: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 758785] [NEW] Display flickers or blank on login
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: x11-xserver-utils I upgraded my system from Maverick to Natty Beta. I take daily updates every day. Since then, When you boot the system, with the external monitor attached, the external display flickers badly and the screen is unreadable. I hit FN - F7 on my Thinkpad X201 to reset the display, and then I see the login screen correctly, on both internal, and external. After I log in, the same thing happens, screen flikers and unreadable on external monitor. I hit FN F7 again, and I get the 800x1024 default screen, which I then have to use 'Monitors' to increase the Resolution to the mode I like on my external monitor. This happens everytime I boot or login. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop
@colin couple of things here: - capture_before_unmap should be set to false by default in metacity.schemas, so that is a definitely a bug - unity-2d package should set capture_before_unmap to true in it's debian/20_unity-2d-gconf-default file which sets the gconf defaults for the unity-2d session We will provide merge requests for these two packages. Thanks for pointing it out, I thought it was already doing it this way.
