[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked

2011-04-18 Thread Roland Dreier
OK, I got a chance to run intel_reg_dumper when the system is in the
following states:

 - docked-good.txt : in the dock with unity working properly spanning two
external 1920x1080 monitors
 - docked-bad.txt: in the dock with a black screen on the left monitor and the
right monitor off
 - undocked-good.txt: out of the dock with unity working properly on the
internal 1440x900 LCD
 - undocked-bad.txt: out of the dock with a black screen

** Attachment added: intel_reg_dumper output when docked with both screens
working

effects both compiz and mutter, which makes both Unity and Gnome 3
unusable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 750259] Re: [arrandale] Dual screen not working/shows corruption

2011-04-18 Thread Marius Grigaitis
I can also confirm this bug. Hopefully it's the same

Happens on Lenovo T410 with Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 520

Some things that are not working:
1. Plugging in external monitor makes primary monitor (laptop) go black and
external monitor is a bit shifted + flickers in color similar to background.
2. Pressing ctrl+alt+f1 and then trying to go back with f7 doesn't work, only
boot console output is shown.
3. After switching monitors with keyboard shortcut (fn + f7) screen goes black
and only mouse is visible or nothing is visible at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA

2011-04-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
I have the same issue as Dustin. x201 on Ultrabase docking station,
connected to a Samsung 225BW monitor.

If I connect the laptop to my smallish 17 1280x1024 Sony, I manage to
hook it up in dual display mode. But if I try to disable the laptop
screen it fails with a black screen /cursor. So I can't really use it in
single-screen mode on the docking station.

If I connect the laptop to my widescreen Samsung 22, it directly goes
to the parasited flashing screen effect.

So it looks like there are two separate bugs, one of them being specific
to large screens / Samsungs.

This is also very similar to what Anmar described at bug 732050.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 737891] Re: [Arrandale] gnome-display-properties unable to correctly enable monitors connected to VGA

2011-04-18 Thread Thierry Carrez
I managed to get it kinda working. The flashing issue with the Samsung
seemed to be in a stale monitors.xml file. Posting for reference:

Boot laptop separate, then remove ~/.config/monitors.xml and /etc/gnome-
settings-daemon/xrandr/monitors.xml

Shutdown. Place laptop on Ultrabase. Boot, system comes up in cloned
screens mode.

gnome-display-properties, disable cloned mode, set monitor screen
resolution, apply. We are now in dual head mode, with the unity launcher
on the laptop screen. The only way to get it on the main screen seems to
be to disable laptop screen.

disable laptop screen, apply. The confirmation countdown apparently runs
somewhere else and will revert your change in 30 seconds... unless you
press apply again and confirm it.

I still have to experiment on how I can make that setup stick... or work
with the laptop lid closed on the Ultrabase.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 735126] Re: [natty] system freezes on boot without disabling KMS

2011-04-18 Thread Martin Pitt
Closing the userspace driver task, as this needs to be fixed on the
kernel side.

Regarding the milestone, I thought the kernel was now frozen for natty?
(Not that I would object to getting this fixed prior to release, as this
will presumably also affect the live system, and thus block
installation).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764410] [NEW] Fails to parse xorg.conf, fails to auto enable 2nd monitor, fails to use primary monitor

2011-04-18 Thread Olivier - interfaSys
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

The 2nd monitor is not enabled when installing 11.4. That means, that we
have to install nvidia-settings and activate it. Beginners shouldn't
have to do that.

There is no xorg.conf to parse or only a bogus one, so settings cannot
be saved.

When activating the 2nd monitor, the app decides that it will be the
primary even though the other monitor has been selected for that task.
we have to re-launch nvidia-settings for things to be applied properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577648] Re: All USB ports suddenly stop working

2011-04-18 Thread gaberlunzie
Though I'm not sure about the source (allegedly Nvidia), I have the same
problem described. I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with Nvidia and Ubuntu hangs
when my USB devices like mouse, keyboard and speaker all suddenly stop
working, forcing me to hard reboot. The problem appears to be occurring
with increasing frequency over the past two or so weeks till now, where
I am rebooting a few minutes into each login!

This problem has been inherited through successive releases of Ubuntu
(since 10.04, I think), along with another problem where Ubuntu crawls
to a stop with no memory usage and heavy disk usage. I think these
problems should be marked as 'High' status.

window names in the selector bar.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 680878] Re: dual head: wrong character display -- font artefacts

2011-04-18 Thread Michal Seta
4 months later I still experience this problem (just upgraded to
Maverick last week). As in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/emacs-snapshot/+bug/676175 this problem exists only when using dual-
head setup. Working with emacs is only possible with one screen or in
the terminal (-nw).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763331] Re: VA-API packages helper should be installed with the proprietary drivers

I'm afraid I can't do this, as xvba-va-driver is in multiverse and
vdpau-va-driver is in universe. Both nvidia and fglrx are in main and,
as such, they cannot depend on packages that are not in main.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763331] Re: VA-API packages helper should be installed with the proprietary drivers

2011-04-18 Thread RussianNeuroMancer
Maybe there possible other way to make install of acceleration video
support easy?

Just for example:
Now Jockey show nVidia or AMD proprietary drivers in the list, when there is
supported hardware and when drivers is available. So maybe when
multiverse/universe repo is avilable AND there is supported hardware AND
proprietary driver is already istalled, Jockey will suggest to install one of
this packages (xvba-va-driver or vdpau-va-driver) as Additional package for
video acceleration?

Please think about it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 759562] Re: [natty] X uses software rendering with nouveau

2011-04-18 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
If it counts, I am using DVI cable between the video card and the
monitor. And by the way, I have another just upgraded machine also with
nvidia card and DVI: that time I tried to use nvidia's binary driver.
The result: I have signal, but just very odd bar-code like screen can be
seen instead of boot logo and also when I try to use text based console
instead of X.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764650] [NEW] Flash video with hardware acceleration causes X crash with radeon driver

2011-04-18 Thread jovan dragisic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

New install of Kubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwahl. Emachines e442, Xorg verson
1:7.6+4ubuntu3, ATI Technologies Inc M880G [Mobility Radeon HD 4200]
with the generic open source radeon driver. Viewing Flash video in full
screen on web browsers causes the Xserver to crash.

The only solution is to go to the virtual console, kill firefox with the
killall or kill -9 PID command, and restart the computer. Restarting KDM
leads to a loss of network connections.

Steps to recreate:
1. Open Firefox, Chrome, or Rekonq
2. Play flash video
3. Hit the full screen button

The bug persists when trying to view videos with hardware acceleration
enabled. Disabling hardware acceleration causes videos to start in full
screen, but exit immediately. Enabling the fglrx driver from the
Additional driver utility solves the problem, but brings on others,
not related to the flash issue.

Additional information on demand.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 696232] Re: Incomplete support for Apple Aluminium Keyboard

2011-04-18 Thread Joss Winn
I've just upgraded to Natty Beta2 and have run into what appears to be
the same bug. The number pad is not working and some key mappings are
incorrect (hash, pound sign).

Previously, my Apple aluminium keyboard worked fine when the right
options were set in the Gnome keyboard preferences. However, since the
upgrade, I'm getting a warning whenever I login or try to change the
keyboard preferences. The error message is asking me to run to commands
if reporting a bug:

root@jwinn-desktop:~# xprop -root | grep XKB
_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = evdev, applealu_iso, gb, mac,
terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,apple:alupckeys,numpad:mac
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = evdev, applealu_iso, gb, mac,
terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,apple:alupckeys,numpad:mac

root@jwinn-desktop:~# gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = []
 model =
 options = [terminate   terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,apple   apple:alupckeys,numpad
numpad:mac,compat apple:alupckeys,compat numpad:mac]

I have xkeyboard-config (2.1-1ubuntu3) installed.

Thanks for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726496] Re: Cannot use Unity or Classic desktop with effects after the latest nvidia+xorg update

2011-04-18 Thread Ian Barton
I have the same problem as the original poster. I am using Natty Beta 2.
Previous versions of Ubuntu (Lucid and Maverick) have worked OK with
Compiz. What further information is required?

Ian.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick

2011-04-18 Thread Josef Wells
I was getting this like crazy with 2.6.35-28 and 2.6.35-26, about every
hour, nvidia 270.*

I switched back to 2.6.35-24 and nvidia 260.* and it stopped. I'm going
to try going back to nvidia 270.* when I get a chance, but this seemed
to fix it for me.

I no longer see this at all in dmesg:
NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt
context

Chase, sorry for not having had time to provide the files that you
requested. But I can confirm that the issue with the coordinate matrix
has been fixed (by you?) in a recent update (xserver-xorg-input-
evdev=1:2.6.0-1ubuntu12 right now).  Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 651590] Re: ATI Radeon HD 5850 blank screen during boot

2011-04-18 Thread lixo1
Hi, thanks for your interest. This issue is independent from ati or
xserver, because it happens during the boot time, before loading
modules.

After a long research with kernel list I discovered that this bug comes
from a conflict between video acpi and HP envy Bios model when setting
brightness to the initial value. It's a kernel/hp main tree issue.

Now, there is a patch available from the main kernel source, that is
shipped with kernel 2.6.38. It adds a backlight option in the boot. Here
the link: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21212

So, you can close this bug report. Thanks for your interest.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 750259] Re: [arrandale] Dual screen not working/shows corruption

2011-04-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

Dual screen over VGA is no longer working for me under Natty. It used to
work fine under maverick, but since the upgrade it just shows
corruption/flickering screen. Whenever I'm using one screen it is
working fine, and when I plug in my second screen my main (internal
laptop) screen turns itself off and the external monitor keeps
flickering at high frequency, showing random colours and sometimes
little pieces of background. It doesn't matter whether the monitor is
plugged in at boot or not. I have reasons to believe that the intel
driver or xorg causes the problems because the GRUB and the login screen
work both fine on both screens at the same time. As soon as I'm logged
in this behaviour shows. It also doesn't matter if I'm using classic
GNOME or the Unity interface. Xorg.0.log and dmesg are not showing any
  errors.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 744183] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000001 IPEHR: 0x09ebe000)

2011-04-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Pete, are you still experiencing this bug? If so please install mesa
from ppa:xorg-edgers and let us know if that resolves it; potentially we
may be able to backport a fix, but with so little time remaining in the
release it may need to be SRU'd post-release. (mesa patches can be a
bit risky though, so until we know what the patch is, I can't make any
promises.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747205] Re: [arrandale] Black screen on all outputs when external VGA is connected

2011-04-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
I'm going to bump this back from libdrm to -intel; given the libdrm
patch seems to not solve it, there's not a particular reason to think
the bug is in libdrm. If nothing else, the bug report will be easier to
find if it's with the other -intel reports.

** Package changed: libdrm (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
