[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 496890] Re: [i945gm] Garbled screen when disabling internal display on macbook

2011-04-29 Thread dp
I currently do not have linux installed on my macbook. I did however try
with the natty live cd. The problem appears to have been partially
solved, but let me elaborate:

- Hardware is the same as with my original setup (Same Macbook, same external
display)
- Software is different: Previously I used KDE (Desktop effects explicitly
enavbled), on the Live-CD I used Unity (Desktop effects ??? enabled -
presumably yes)

When using only the internal display, everything is fine. When plug in
the external display while sitting at the desktop, the desktop is being
expanded to cover both screens. However, the background image is garbled
(mostly black, a few distorted traces of the original background image
are still visible). Additionally, there appears to be a problem with
screen refresh. When I hover over the sidebar (e.g. Firefox) the label
will appear, but not disappear when I move the mouse away.

Next, I used Monitors to disable the internal display and enable the
external display only. It took quite some time to switch to that state
(10-20 seconds), but after that the display was fine.

I then switched back to the dual-head configuration and sure enough, the
problems came back. It even went so far that when I unplugged the
external display, two windows that were previously open became part of
the background image.

** Tags added: apport-collected natty ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

i have installed 10.04(1) without any problem. the 915GM card is working out
off the box with the intel card driver.
i decided to also try the 10.10 desktop. this one only launched the GDM at
low performance (vesa). removing vesa driver results is no graphical boot. i
added the X-swat sources to get that latest video driver no improvement.
the xorg log - PCI line does not mention my video card name (only the id
and the revision) which is find odd..
anything i can try next ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762855] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2+] Display on external monitor (vga) is black on 13 MacBook Pro 8, 1 (x86_64)

2011-04-29 Thread Jeff Olson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 761065 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761065

I just tried the kernel AceLan Kao posted in comment #13 and no luck.
Connecting an external monitor causes a system lockup on my system. I
went back to the 2.6.39 kernel in kernel-ppa and everything works
better, it seems.

I just tried the kernel AceLan Kao posted in comment #13 and no luck.
Connecting an external monitor causes a system lockup on my system. I
went back to the 2.6.39 kernel in kernel-ppa and everything works
 better, it seems.

Ah, bummer Jeff.

If you have some time, you could do your own bisection search to figure
out which patch from 2.6.39 is needed for your system. For some
paint-by-numbers directions on doing this see:

 Hey Jordi,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
 and run the command:

  apport-collect bug-number

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

 Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

  Hi all,
Since I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 64 bits, I have a problem with the login
screen. Actually four people use ubuntu and everyone has his .face photo.
This .face file is the same file that I used in Ubuntu 10.04.
Well when login screen appears, only one o two .face appears, and
sometimes appears the other two photos or no appears any photo.
Curiosly if I select one user and after press cancel, then appears the
 four photos.
It seems not very important, but my daughter is 4 years old and click in
 his photo to acces Ubuntu.

Thank you very much in advanced.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 742567] Re: multitouch events do not respect swap/invert axes properties

2011-04-29 Thread David K Levine
I have tried many combinations. Using only the input transformation
matrix with swapping and inversion turned off when the coordinate
transformation has the form

0 -1 1 x y 0 0 0 1

where x+y = 1 and x is bigger than about .2 the following unstable
behavior exists:

when a horizontal or vertical drag is performed the cursor jumps wildly
- it appears to jump between what it should be according to the
coordinate transformation and what it would be if x=0 and y=1 (that is
if the second line of the matrix was the identity). With a diagonal drag
or a touch the cursor appears where it should be. So for example with
the correct rotation 0 -1 1 1 0 0 0 0 1 the cursor appears under your
finger to the touch or a diagonal drag, but with a vertical or
horizontal drag it jumps wildly alternating between where it should be
(under your finger) and somewhere else, which appears to be the
untransformed input. As if for some reason the evdev driver only applies
the transformation at alternate points during a vertical or horizontal
drag.

It's pretty odd behavior.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421048] Re: Black dots appear on screen

2011-04-29 Thread Joseph Coffland
Thank you for the concerned response. I have a good idea of what it's
like to be on your end because I am on other projects. I don't mean to
be a whiner.

I had a number of bugs related to an Nvidia card and multiple displays
stemming back to Hardy. Most of the reports I filed or was involved
with were eventually closed with out really being resolved as Ubuntu
versions progressed. I guess in this case the main issue was probably a
faulty Nvidia card/driver pair. The issues went away when I abandoned a
particular machine with on board Nvidia. I should probably be yelling
at Nivida for not owning up to and fixing the problems. I have an
expensive laptop now paperweight due to these problems. I guess it's a
bit of a sore spot for me.

Keep up the great work. Ubuntu is getting better and more reliable all
the time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446845] Re: X server restart KDE session while OpenGL KDE desktop effects is set on.

2011-04-29 Thread molostoff
natty works fine after 'do-release-upgrade' for me, except blur effect:
enabling it autodisables effects by KDE at all.

It is just annoying thing, that can be reverted by manually adjust
kwinrc settings, so it is no more a bug for me.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 743214] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-04-29 Thread LaBero
Dear Timo,

Yes, you are correct:

Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D-E
Ubuntu x64 running on: OCZ Vertex 2 Series 60GB
 Graphics card:Sapphire Radeon HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE

Please note:

After testing 11.04 for a couple of days I had to remove it and reinstall
10.10 again. I experienced some problems with installing applications that I
would like to use, this probably due to my lacking experience with linux. As
you probably realize by now, I don't have files that you would like to see.

I hope the apport-collect still gives you the information that you are
looking for.

best regards
Joel

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769103] Re: Keys sometimes get stuck in X server on Gigabyte T1005

essl: do you have a Gigabyte T1005? If not, it just proves that it was
smart to open a separate bug for each hardware. Can't you open one for
yours as well? You could though try setting the rate lower, like:

kbdrate -r 2.0 -d 1000

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 773004] [NEW] Sometimes Natty system freezes during shutdown process

2011-04-29 Thread Sergey Chebotar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fglrx

Acer 5542G notebook, fresh natty installation, proprietary fglrx driver
installed.
Sometimes system freezes during shutdown. Purple screen with no reaction on any
key, just hard reset.
I removed quiet splash from grub config and there are few lines in the end
marked RIP and fglrx, so i can assume it's fglrx issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 765090] Re: Dragging of windows does not work with trackpad (natty beta)

2011-04-29 Thread zvaral
Yes, three finger dragging works under unity but not on classic ubuntu
desktop (gnome).

Tap and hold however works for both but it's hard to initiate likely due
to the low sensitivity. Probably the tap and hold delay time is set
somewhere to a small value. It should be more than 100 millisecond in my
opinion.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2011-04-29 Thread Mircea Deaconu
What I don't really understand in the whole threading vs. signals
discussion is why the kernel cannot buffer in a queue of some sort
those signals before processing them. They wouldn't be lost anymore
and the kernel could process them at its own pace.

2011/4/29 Marius Kotsbak 124...@bugs.launchpad.net:
Regarding the bug severity, I can only agree on that given that we have
the workaround of disabling keyboard repeat in the X server settings.
Without that, depending on the frequency it happens, it can make the PC
almost unusable or at least too unpredictable to trust, i.e. you always
risk, like when I am writing in this text field to loose all when I am
correcting one typo if I don't react in time, close all tabs in the
browser when typing ctrl-w (since this shortcut starts CPU load, the bug
occurence actually increase at exactly that time, as with tab completion
 in terminal).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 762812] Re: X crashes reproducibly on google in firefox

2011-04-29 Thread basssH
The problem is not present any more in natty (other problems are there,
since my upgrade to natty failed, and I had to do a complete new
install... :( ).

I guess this is fixed because of the change to Firefox 4, rather then
that the real problem is fixed in X, but this is just a guess.

June 18, 2007 - see
http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-x@lists.debian.org/msg64513.html .
Apparently the fix applied at that time has been regressed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 756273] Re: xterm dies on popup-menu action

2011-04-29 Thread Owen Leibman
Bug still occurring in natty, error messages exactly the same as before
(except that serial number of failed request has changed, which I think
is as it should be). xterm -version shows XTerm(268).
