[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 791596] Re: Odd Pointer Behavior After Recent Xserver SRU in Natty
Chase, I followed your instructions. I still get the odd pointer behavior. This is kind of hard for me to explain. With the playback I did not notice any issue. But with the latest updated xorg, the pointer movement always *feels* odd. By feeling I mean that I cannot notice it by just looking at pointer movement on the screen but it always feels erratic and less accurate. Sorry for being ambiguous. Also, it seems this odd behavior is not noticeable in a fresh session but only starts after a few minutes' uptime. I tested this behavior with two different optical mouse and still the same behavior. Can this affect gaming? I play Urban Terror on my system and it is most noticeable there. Moving the player around with mouse in the game feels more erratic than working on the desktop with files etc. All these issues on my system go away as soon as I downgrade to stock xorg version. The odd feeling + mouse movement in the game and on the desktop, everything comes back to normal. Sorry I am not able to provide any accurate info. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/791596 Title: Odd Pointer Behavior After Recent Xserver SRU in Natty ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 764051] Re: Second monitor useless in dual desktop mode
While there is a bodge to get things working (although I still get some strange boarders and window behaviour) this is a *MAJOR* out of the box functionality breaker. Multi-monitor should just work (as it does in Windows[0]), it used to be easy (for me anyway), install Nvidia X Server Settings, click a few buttons and it worked. Other minor display issues get medium[1], major functionality removed with no replacement just gets low? As it stands this is an update blocker for natty (and potentially above), I'm *not* updating my work PC (three screens) until it just works, not because I can't bodge things to get it working but because quite frankly I should not have to. [0] I understand the reasons why its tricky however when someone is coming from a 2+ screen Windows 7 PC there is no way they're ever going to try Ubuntu (or any other distro) if only one screen works without messing about with the command line! [1] eg Alt-tab being a bit slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/772177 or restored window being partly under the menu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/716521 ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/764051 Title: Second monitor useless in dual desktop mode ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Instead, we get partial graphics displayed on one monitor, and even less graphics displayed on another. the 'resolution' looks right , but the 'desktop' only takes part of the screen (a small part, like the left corner or the top half). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787587] Re: Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty
I realized that I failed to problem exact instructions to reproduce the problem... The default Dell Duo resolution is a 16:9 ratio and is set to 1366x768. This is too small. You can use another preconfigured resolution of 1024x768, but this leaves large amounts of unused screen. Therefore, trying to set the screen to a good 16:9 ratio and thus using 1024x576. This works on Maverick 10.10 via the following commands... $ cvt 1024 576 # 1024x576 59.90 Hz (CVT 0.59M9) hsync: 35.88 kHz; pclk: 46.50 MHz Modeline 1024x576_60.00 46.50 1024 1064 1160 1296 576 579 584 599 -hsync +vsync $ xrandr --newmode 1024x576_60.00 46.50 1024 1064 1160 1296 576 579 584 599 -hsync +vsync $ xrandr --addmode LVDS1 1024x576_60.00 $ xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1024x576_60.00 At this point on 11.04 the screen completely blanks out. I am able to use the terminal window blindly and use xrandr to reset the resolution to the well known working default resolution (1666x768). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787587 Title: Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hmm I haven't seen this kind of problem a since a while, let's hope than, it's fixed :) It was hard to tell when and how the problem can be triggered, but for sure it should have happened since some days at least, and nothing since a hmm month or so? I can't tell exactly, but as I've noted above in a comment: it seems setting grub to use only terminal mode fixed this ... I don't know how it's related to the kernel fix you've mentioned. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 792026] Re: Black screen
Right now the screen is totally black. I discovered the working second screen because someone tried it for me. They actually tried to boot another system (read Windows) and that worked perfectly. When I boot I see the mashines own welcome (e) and maybe there are some purple on the screen. After that, it's all black. After rebooting, I discovered by chance that is not totally correct. I happened to have a very bright lamp shining rigt into the primary screen. And I could in fact see the icons of Ubuntu. I signed on and the desktop apeared but only when I shine the lamp against is. Otherwise it is black. It's kind a stange... I tabed the Fn-key and the -key in order to increase the light on the screen but it had no effect. I hope this will help solving the problem. If not, please do not hesitate to contact me for further information. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 760695] Re: Ubuntu suddenly logs-out
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 778490 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778490 Apport could not collect information about the crash, in my case. Today I had two consequtive crashes. Right after the first crash I logged back in and started apport (sudo service apport start force_start=1). Less then a minute later system crashed again and logged back out. When I logged in again, there was no apport message of any kind. I am assuming that apport did not collect crash information. If it did collect information but did not report it the way it used to do in other cases, then I do not know where on my drive it created (if it did) a report file . Chrome, TeXworks and Banshee was open at the time of both of the crashes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/760695 Title: Ubuntu suddenly logs-out ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 714937] Re: GPU lockup (EQ overflow) with nouveau experimental 3D drivers
@Eric No, this is happening on a desktop machine without a touch pad, although it's possible that synapics drivers are being loaded at some point, unintentionally. I'll take a look to see if that's the case next time I'm on that computer. My workaround was to drop compiz, at which point the problem seemed to go away. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 772207] Re: version 173.14.30 is buggy for NVidia GeForce FX series
Receiving same issue. Different video cards, same end result. The nVidia GT 260, GT 9500, GT 430, and GT 460 all come back with the same problems. Install from 10.10 runs clean on 32 or 64bit after activating the driver. Upgrade or clean install to 11.04 fails. Tried doing --reinstall of the drivers after testing with each card. Running Natty with 2.6.38-9 kernel tested 32 64bit. Versions tested include Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu (classic desktop as well). Didn't expect any major differences between the different desktops, but thought it should be included for completeness.
