[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793042] [NEW] greater changed to ellipsis in hungarian layout

2011-06-05 Thread u-foka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

Hy!

Since I upgraded to natty, the greater symbol changed to the ellipsis
symbol on the period key, what I consider as a bug as I and many others
I know use that key the old way..

There are less / greater keys on Hungarian layout also on í and y
keys but these located far from each other on many stupid laptop
keyboards (the í key often moved to the right side of the keyboard) so
it's more comfortable to use the other two (m and .)

So please roll back this change!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560180] Re: [SRU] Wacom buttons cause mouse to move to upper left corner and click.

2011-06-05 Thread Kay
For me the buttons of the tablet show similar problems:
- at the beginning of a clean session, without having used the stylus at all, I
get the same result as klerfayt with the stylus not on the tablet

- the first time I use stylus (continuously), to position the curser
correctly, the scroll wheel and the buttons seem to work correctly, i.e.
no flickering for me

- after having lifted the stylus (the first time after login), the
buttons and the scroll wheel stop working completely

I am using a graphire4 (CTE-640)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778933] Re: suspend problem

2011-06-05 Thread mangelasakis
Sorry for the above. I am not an experienced user launchpad as well as
my English is not good ... In the future I'll be more careful.

In other distributions of linux, such as the debian wheezy, do not face
a similar problem with suspend. Not to 10.10.

Also point out that following the instructions from the forum of ubuntu
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1036051 doing again compile the
DSDT file showed me about 160 errors which I do not know how to fix it.
I do not know if this is related to the problem.

X server crashed and hung up VLC's X connection. Not a VLC bug.

You can work around this by selecting a different video output method in
the VLC preferences.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778490] Re: Random logout after upgrading to Natty Narwhal 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread Tjeremiah
I can confirm this happens over on my side too. Im using a Sony Vaio NR series
notebook with an integrated intel card. The auto logouts usually happen when
im using Firefox. One minute im browsing, the next im greeted with the login
screen. A very, very, annoying and frustrating bug.
I'm using UBUNTU 11.04 with Unity 3D.

Please try adding backtrace information for the developers, like your
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old after the logout happens in order to pinpoint the
problem and find a reliable method to reproduce it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793171] [NEW] Xorg randomly crash

2011-06-05 Thread pourissage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeon

This can be reproduced using xmgrace with ssh -X, but it don't seem to be
related to ssh:
the same program on another computer (still in ssh) doesn't crash, and it
sometimes also crashes in local.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780094] Re: unity top panel corrupted, most applets invisible but work

2011-06-05 Thread indium
sorry for replying late: I didn't have the corruption lately as I
switched to the old gnome window manager. Now, when running Unity I
can't reproduce the 'disappeared' panel, but it is now constantly 'semi-
transparent'. So, I cannot complete the bug anymore.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 780358] Re: Random X crashes in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread Taylor
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 774978 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774978

I have been experiencing this as well. For me, it was sometimes random,
but it always occurred when I loaded up Calibre and tried to click on an
ebook.

Taking nsanz.cl's advice, I disabled some effects. Calibre no longer
crashes X immediately every time (it used to).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778490] Re: Random logout after upgrading to Natty Narwhal 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread jr.swordfish

Apport Backtrace:
- Temporarily forced using: sudo service apport start force_start=1
- Simulated the condition for crash/logout
- Logged back but no notification from update-notifier
- Checked /var/crash/executable_path.uid.crash but no report found there
Looks like apport fails to report the crash.
Could it be a GPU lockup? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze

Workaround: I reported a workaround that worked with my laptop. Since
then I have consistently verified the workaround. If the laptop is
powered on AC main there are no crash/logouts. Auto logouts only when
using battery power. Could power management linked to GPU lockup. Wild
guess: Some kind of wait/timeout issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793217] [NEW] unity mouse pad three-finger paste stopped working

2011-06-05 Thread indium
Public bug reported:

In unity on 11.04 on a Macbook pro 6,2 the touchpad used to have two-finger
scroll and three-finger taps for pasting text (in a terminal or elsewhere). The
3-finger taps don't work anymore. A workaround is exchanging buttons using
synclient:
'synclient TapButton2=2 ; synclient TapButton3=3', but this disables other
features (like zooming in gnuplot x11 windows).

I don't know to which package/process this issue is related, since
synclient works, so somewhere a configuration has been changed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778490] Re: Random logout after upgrading to Natty Narwhal 11.04

Answering the previous message (jr.wordfish):

Regarding your workaround, I use the laptop only on power (not on
battery) and in my case the logout problem still happens. So I think
this is not a real workaround.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793114] Re: segfault when loggin in

2011-06-05 Thread llloic
I have tried to login using Ubuntu classic without effect version of
the desktop, and it happens that it works correctly. So there is problem
with the effects.

Do you have an idea of what I could do to trouble shoot this problem
more precisely?

May I update some parts of the intel drivers, xorg server...

Thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)

2011-06-05 Thread Martin Pool
I tested with Oneiric's kernel http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/linux-
image-2.6.39-3-generic running natty userspace, and so far it seems to
be working ok in either internal, external, or mirrored mode. In side-
by-side mode I have trouble with regions of the screen appearing black
but I suspect that is actually a Unity bug separate from X. (Have not
tested in classic mode yet.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777493] Re: nvidia drivers activated but not in use on natty 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread Linuxexperte
hi people,

for having a grphic-mode, I have switched back to the experimental
noveau-driver and this works for me. This driver is correctly recognized
and in use. I see it as the best solution just for the moment. But for
solving this completely, the package, I mentioned above has to be reput
into the distro, because it is a direct dependency of nvidia-current!!!

Greetings
Linuxexperte

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793283] [NEW] Xorg crash

2011-06-05 Thread james
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Ubuntu 11.04
X appears to be randomly crashing and dumping me back to the login screen.
Running programs are killed. Leaves video artifacts (dark pixels) on the
screen post-crash which go away with a reboot. Firefox 4.0.1, after X crashes
and I log back in (without rebooting), cursor is displaced in Firefox and I
have to position it one line above what I intend to click on.

The X crash seems the same as bug 780358.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-06-05 Thread Timmie
I can now contribute this experience:

In Unity (3D): only the 173 driver works but it crashes hibernate
twinview

The recommended driver does not work with unity 3d but let me hibernate
and also work with twinview correctly.

I still wonder why this worked well in 10.11 but now is chaotic...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)

2011-06-05 Thread Martin Pool
From Bryce's #29, I tested acelan's kernel from
http://people.canonical.com/~acelan/bugs/lp753189/ linux-
image-2.6.38-8-generic

At first this looked promising because the machine did start up with
both displays working, and I could switch it to using only the external
display. However, after toggling through setups a few times using
Fn-F7, eventually the machine got stuck with neither display active;
after about ten seconds in that state in spontaneously powered down.

Oneiric's 2.6.39-3-generic by contrast seems robust across multiple

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793310] [NEW] Screen freeze when changing displays

2011-06-05 Thread czheng
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I use a laptop as my primary machine. About 70% of the time it's
connected to an external monitor. The rest of the time I use it on its
own.

I've always had problems switching between the two. Prior to the Natty
upgrade, if I switched from the monitor to the laptop and then unplugged
the machine, the display would turn off and I couldn't get it back
without doing a hard reset.

Since the Natty upgrade, the problems have gotten worse. The
plugging/unplugging issue persists (though sometimes I can get the
screen back by unplugging/replugging a second time).

But another problem has cropped up. Since upgrading to Natty, when
switching between displays, the screen will just freeze. I can still see
everything, sometimes even move my mouse around, but the system doesn't
respond to any clicking or keyboard strokes. My only option is to power
down the machine and restart it.

This happens when switching—I turn one display off and the other one on.
I can sometimes avoid this issue by turning on both displays at the same
resolution first, applying the changes, and then going back and turning
off the second one. But that's not failproof either.

I had similar problem when I used the Leadtek nVidia GT220 graphic card
on my desktop with the nVidia proprietary driver available from the
Ubuntu repository.

The problem disappeared after I:
- physically removed the Leadtek nVidia GT220 from my desktop
- uninstalled the nVidia proprietary driver from Synaptics
- used the Intel HD Graphics 2000 from my Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793329] [NEW] screen not rendering properly

2011-06-05 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

This past friday, I rebooted by ubuntu system. It came up and I was able
to log in, but the screen was not rendering properly. The unity menu on
the right was basically invisible, the top menu bar was not rendering,
the entire screen was hazy, and there were other artifacts on the screen
that arent supposed to be there.

I suspected that the cause of the problem was caused by one of the
xserver packages. I noted that xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common were
updated that Wednesday from 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1 to 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1. I
downgraded to the previous version of these two packages and rebooted.
Same thing. Then I rebooted again and the problem seemed to have gone
away. At this point, I was somewhat confident that I could resolve the
problem if it happened again so I upgraded those two packages to there
most recent version. The problem occured again, but this time
downgrading didn't help, which was bizzare. I reinstalled ubuntu and
then explicitly didn't allow the xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common
packages to be upgraded. Everything was fine for the rest of the day but
that evening, the display froze. I rebooted to recover and the problem
came back.

I have reseated the graphics card but that didn't help. I also noted
that I was able to use the Ubuntu Safe Mode session in GDM and the
desktop looks fine. This leads me to believe it is a problem with the
unity interface, or some 3d code that gets invoked when I'm running in
normal mode.

So the specific sequence is:
- boot computer - things look fine on the screen
- gdm runs to collect login information, things look fine on the screen
- ubuntu desktop appears but rendered improperly. artifacts appear on the
screen

I am filing this bug from safe mode so I'm not sure if the logs captured
by it will have the relevant information. I do have Xorg.log from when I
ran in normal mode and saw the problem and can attach that if necessary.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 355021] Re: Unplugging USB tablet crashes xserver

2011-06-05 Thread Alexey Spiridonov
The upstream commit clearly does not fix the bug, since I'm still
experiencing it on an up-to-date 10.04. Since you wanted a new bug, here
it is:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793338] [NEW] Unplugging USB tablet crashes xserver

2011-06-05 Thread Alexey Spiridonov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-aiptek

This is exactly the same as

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-aiptek/+bug/355021

For some reason, it was decided that the old bug was fixed.

I have 10.04 LTS / X 1.7.6 / aiptek 1.3.0, so everything is up-to-date.

Repro steps:

0. Set up as at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AiptekTablet
1. Stop X.
2. Plug in tablet.
3. Verify that tablet works via cat /dev/input/aiptektablet and observing
characters on the screen.
4. sudo service gdm start
5. Observe that tablet moves mouse cursor
6. Unplug tablet.
7. Observe that X just crashed, and restarted with a brand-new GDM login screen.

I'll be attaching the X log, which includes a backtrace from the driver.

This does not read like a duplicate. I'm on 10.04, and I still have this
