[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 791596] Re: Odd Pointer Behavior After Recent Xserver SRU in Natty

2011-06-06 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I'm now a bit confused as to what the actual problem you're seeing is. Is it:
*) Erratic mouse behaviour:
+) pointer moving when not moving the mouse?
+) pointer moving in an incorrect direction when moving the mouse?
+) pointer not moving at a constant rate when moving the mouse at a constant
speed?
 +) Something else?
*) Altered mouse sensitivity:
+) Higher sensitivity - pointer moves in the direction expected, but moves
further than expected
+) Altered acceleration behaviour - pointer takes longer/shorter to get to
“full speed” when moving the mouse?

Are there any other changes when switching between the xserver-xorg-core
versions? Do you have two monitors connected?

In any case, as far as I can tell the codepath the patch changes will
only be hit by a driver sending an absolute pointer event, which as far
as I can tell none of your devices (and certainly not your mouse) will
do. So I remain a bit perplexed!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778933] Re: suspend problem

2011-06-06 Thread mangelasakis
apport information

** Description changed:

Sorry for my English ... I have problem with suspend. While it appears
to turn off properly when I press the button to restart the computer it
starts as if I had to disable shut down, not suspend. In ubuntu 10.10
functioned normally without problem. From what I've been looking at
forums I've found that the same problem and have other sony vaio
laptops. Someone mentioned that upgrading the bios corrected the
problem. I'll check it. It is strange, however, because the 10.10
  operating normally ...

Also another problem is that I do not recognize the card reader in no
linux version I've tried ... But this is not a big problem for me
because they do not use it ... But it is still a problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745112] Re: [arrandale] desktop is messed up (goes black) when laptop is docked with two external 1920x1200 monitors (x86_64)

2011-06-06 Thread Martin Pool
tjaalton and bryceh suggested bisecting using the packages built from
mainline rather than building from scratch.

Using http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

v2.6.39-rc1-natty when the external monitor is plugged in will _only_
use the external monitor; the monitors control panel apparently cannot
even detect the internal monitor. If I unplug the displayport cable the
internal screen is stuck black.

v2.6.39-rc4-natty seems to work correctly.

rc2 apparently failed to build.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778490] Re: Random logout after upgrading to Natty Narwhal 11.04

2011-06-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
Fernando, good work! That shows a nearly perfect backtrace, but we're
missing symbols for the first two calls (which is probably where the
crash is):

#0 0x0057ffb4 in pixman_region_equal () from /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0
No symbol table info available.
#1 0x0018e798 in ?? () from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/openchrome_drv.so
No symbol table info available.

Can you install the dbgsym packages for pixman and the openchrome driver
and do it once more?

Also, I should also mention your backtrace is completely different than
what's shown in other people's Xorg.0.log.old so is probably some other
unrelated X crash. (Like I mention, every type of X crash results in
the same thing - dropping you back to the login screen).

Your syslog also shows that the kernel is very sick (but not in the
graphics drm stack). Hard to tell if those errors relate to the crash
you're seeing, but if I had to guess, it looks like something deeper is
wrong in your system and X crashing is just a side effect.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 791596] Re: Odd Pointer Behavior After Recent Xserver SRU in Natty

2011-06-06 Thread dart
Sorry for creating this confusion as I was unable to describe the issue
properly. I should have been to the point. This is what I have been
experiencing:

*) Altered mouse sensitivity:
+) Altered acceleration behaviour - pointer takes *longer/shorter* to get to
“full speed” when moving the mouse (This is the exact thing which is happening.)

No there are not any other changes and no multi monitors setup. I have
recorded the device.prop and device.record files yesterday when I
suddenly started facing the problem. I will upload them here. As much as
I want to know what is the problem, I hate wasting time and efforts of
developers. If this problem is not reproduced or cannot be further
investigated, please go ahead and maybe we can see later if some other
users experience the same problems or similar bugs are reported. Also if
some further testing is required I will do it.

Thanks, Justin Ossevoort! I'm also experiencing the problem, but next
time I'll try killing gnome-screensaver and compiz. Until now I was
doing service gdm restart.

also wondering if it would just work with the wacom driver on 11.04,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 771915] Re: Problem with Dual Monitors and Ubuntu 11.04

2011-06-06 Thread Nikiforos Nikiforou
Hello,

I have the same problem on my X61 Tablet when using an external monitor
(Dell 2009W 1680x1050@60Hz) together with my laptop screen
(1024x768@60Hz).

I do not have an nvidia card, but instead:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)

I am reporting this here in case this turns out to be a more general
problem.

I am setting them up in an extend configuration, so the large screen
extends the desktop to the right.

This problem appeared a few weeks after the upgrade to 11.04 which is
strange. It worked fine in the beginning (even though the icons where
cropped on the top of the laptop screen (smaller height compared to the
large screen).

In my case it affects both Ubuntu and Ubuntu Classic Sessions (with or
without effects).

In ubuntu classic, I just get the desktop, initialy empty. I can pull a
terminal up (ctrl-alt-T) and type gnome-panel to get the panel and
work. Then the desktop icons also appear.

I do not know if this is helpful to this forum.

apport information

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-aiptek

This is exactly the same as

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-aiptek/+bug/355021

For some reason, it was decided that the old bug was fixed.

  I have 10.04 LTS / X 1.7.6 / aiptek 1.3.0, so everything is up-to-date.

  Repro steps:

  0. Set up as at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AiptekTablet
  1. Stop X.
  2. Plug in tablet.
  3. Verify that tablet works via cat /dev/input/aiptektablet and observing
characters on the screen.
  4. sudo service gdm start
  5. Observe that tablet moves mouse cursor
  6. Unplug tablet.
  7. Observe that X just crashed, and restarted with a brand-new GDM login
screen.

I'll be attaching the X log, which includes a backtrace from the driver.

Thanks for your report.

From the log the error is

Could you please check the log file mentioned in the error to see what's wrong.

2011-06-06 Thread Alexey Spiridonov
There you go!

I'm not keen on updating releases any sooner than I have to. It's nice
not to have to adjust my workflow in random ways every 6 months. I use
Lucid both at home and at work, which makes it a second reason not to
upgrade.

Do you have a link with instructions for 11.04? I can try it off a
LiveCD if it looks easy. I see no mention of 11.04 here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781402] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 / Unity freezing when screen is 'woken up'

2011-06-06 Thread Paul Mulherin
Hi Lucky,

The Dell Optiplex I was experiencing this on is only has built-in Intel
GMA950 graphics so if it definitely is a graphics driver issue then it
might not be something limited exclusively to Nvidia drivers.

Gabriel Alonso (Post #6) mentiones having this issue with a Dell E6400.
These laptops have built-in Intel graphics but can also come fitted with
an Nvidia Quadro so it'd be very interesting to see what card is fitted
to his laptop and whether upgrading to the 173 driver like you did will
also fix his issues?

My PC seems to be behaving so far since disabling the 'Sync to Blank'
although it's still early days...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 778490] Re: Random logout after upgrading to Natty Narwhal 11.04

2011-06-06 Thread entonjackson
Full Ack!
Has absolutely nothing to do with Chromium or any Browser based on it.
As I already wrote, I had a logout after booting normally and only clicking on
Appearance inside the Dash Menu. Nothing else was started.
Stop debugging the Chrome Browser... it's not the cause!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793484] [NEW] Xorg crashes right after Login

2011-06-06 Thread Pascal Hartig
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 774978 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/774978

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After a fresh boot logging in with GDM crashes the X server right after
the gnome desktop has loaded. This seems to happen randomly and I can't
directly enforce it. Repeating the login procedure a few times helps. I
haven't encountered any X crashes except for those directly after the
login.

I'm using a Samsung Series 9 Notebook (Sandy Bridge). These are the
relevant lines from the Xorg logfile:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793487] [NEW] Kubuntu does not shut down when external monitor attached through displayport

2011-06-06 Thread Jussi Schultink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After connecting and configuring my lenovo thinkvision screen via the
display port, the machine does not fully shut down, it exits the DE,
drops to the plymouth shoutdown screen and flickers between the external
and internal screens. (the machine is a HP probook 5320m laptop). I have
left it this way for ~15-20 mins with out successfully shutting down. I
have it configured to only display on the external screen when inside
the DE.

Incidentally, while X was hung I ssh'ed in over the network and looked
at /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state. It said no error state
collected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793486] Re: Invisible pointer

2011-06-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for your report.

Moving to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau since it's the video driver in use.
I noticed that you're using kernel version 3.0.0-0300rc1-generic

Are you able to reproduce the problem with 2.6.39.3.4 ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793442] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade

2011-06-06 Thread emarkay
Wait - how do you know THEY modified the file??? At least have teh OP
validate their actions before invalidating this.

I just had my 10.04 update from Linux 2.6.32.32 to 2.6.38.10 - a pretty
major jump. I have never seen thins increment in updates. It was made
available in the normal Update manager.

I tried to manually do a hardware Driver check and the FGLRX ws not
activated. In trying to update it fails and I was told to see
jockey.log.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 765136] Re: [natty] X often crashes since upgrade to natty

2011-06-06 Thread Geoffrey Pursell
I haven't done a bisect yet, but I did manually install the Linux
3.0-rc1 kernel from Oneiric and haven't seen this crash for several
days. The downside is that it looks like Natty's nvidia drivers won't
build on top of the new kernel, so I have to use Nouveau.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 754470] Re: syndaemon consumes 100% CPU

2011-06-06 Thread stef70
I do not think that it was mentionned earlier: I also get 100% after
switching to console (with -R)

I also get 100% cpu when I start syndaemon from ~/.xprofile or from the
gnome startup applications.

try blacklisting the 'acer_wmi' kernel module from loading, by adding
'blacklist acer_wmi' to /etc/modprobe.d/local.conf, and reboot using the
bad kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 524281] Re: Tens of wakes per second in [kernel scheduler] Load balancing tick on Core 2 Duo even with only 1 core enabled

2011-06-06 Thread kecsap
Yuppie, now it seems again that I have found the good combination:

- Nothing fixes the cpu frequency flickering. The laptop just shits on the
cpufreq settings and decides on its own, what is the best frequency for me.
Come on... Sucks.
- This Load balancing tick bullshit stopped when I downgraded my bios back to
the original version what the laptop had when it was shipped. I upgraded
recently to the newest version and it was my last idea like the root cause of
these problems. Laptop: Dell Latitude E4300, the BIOS version A06 again.
- But I got back an old bug with v2.6.39-rc4-natty kernel. Namely the backlit
of the LCD did not come back after resume. Nice. I switched back to the
original natty kernel and this problem seems to be solved also.

So the workaround recipe for Dell Latitude E4300 owners with this bug:

1. Downgrade the BIOS to an earlier version. A06 or A07 is a good candidate. (I
googled a manual to make a pendrive with bootable DOS and I downloaded the A06
BIOS upgrade file from the Dell site to the pendrive.)
2. If this bug still happens - upgrade to Natty.

Other notes:
(3a. In any way, disable the bluetooth in the BIOS. It just makes problems with
suspend/resume and for me, an attempt to send file via bluetooth from my phone
made the laptop frozen with a kernel oops.)
(3b. I do not think so that it makes anything better, but I have installed the
latest Intel graphics drivers from the mentioned PPA in my previous comments.)

Uff.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 793442] Re: package fglrx (not installed) failed to install/upgrade

2011-06-06 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
@emarkay, your problem looks different. The kernel version jump is a
mistake https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
announce/2011-June/000854.html in lucid-proposed which have been fixed
by now. It is not recommended to run a system with -proposed enabled
permanently as it is for testing purpose and may introduce failures. I
you get an error with fglrx and the right kernel in -proposed (2.6.32.x)
could you please file a new report.

@loban, if after verifying the content of /etc/ati/fglrx-uninstall.log
you confirm that you didn't changed the files manually or think that it
is a bug, don't hesitate to reopen this report.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 759104] Re: [gm45] Upgrade to Natty wont load

2011-06-06 Thread johnlon
ok, well I installed oneiric kernel found here http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0-rc1-oneiric/ installing the .deb 64bit image.
Added what was suggested changes to the module under 10.10 and still
cannot get the backlight to work. Found the kernel log, where I logged
into the Oneiric kernel, then logged into Maverick, which might show
what the problem is. Its around 14.33 that I did that.

2011-06-06 Thread Carl Richell
This patch includes new Elantech models from previous patches and fixes
excessive wobble on the ETF1059 (ETF5900) model used in the System76
Pangolin Performance model. We've created a DKMS module that we're
distributing until the patch makes it upstream and into Ubuntu. You can
use the module with the following commands:

sudo apt-get install dkms
cd /usr/src/
sudo wget http://planet76.com/drivers/elantech/psmouse-elantech-v6.tar.bz2
sudo tar jxvf psmouse-elantech-v6.tar.bz2
sudo dkms add -m psmouse -v elantech-v6
sudo dkms build -m psmouse -v elantech-v6
sudo dkms install -m psmouse -v elantech-v6

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-06-06 Thread Axel H.
@Timmie:

In natty the xserver was upgraded to 1.10 which has a lot of trouble with
nvidia cards. Ubuntu is not the only distribution that has these problem but
suffers most from it because of unity 3D.
In maverick (10.10) the xserver version was 1.9 which worked very well with
nvidia cards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 681904] Re: [arrandale] Samsung QX310/QX410/QX510/SF310/SF410/SF510/NF210/RF410/RF510/RF710 trackpad/touchpad not recognized

2011-06-06 Thread Bug Report
Just tested on sf510: edge-scrolling (new), 2-finer-scrolling (new),
top-right-middle-click (new), tap (as before), tap-drag (as before)
works.

It's great to have that touchpad working. Thank you all!

@Carl
Perfect walk-through. Thank you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 551089] Re: [VX800]amd64 system lockup on VT switch/suspend

2011-06-06 Thread Clint Byrum
Accepted xserver-xorg-video-openchrome into lucid-proposed, the package
will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give
feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for
documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 570151] Re: mouse stuck between screens with xinerama

2011-06-06 Thread Alejandro Cuervo
This is still present in 10.10 and 11.04.

Has anyone found a solution?

unfortunately post #29 is not a solution, not because is not trusted, but
because no explanation is given on what was patched.
Also the patched packages and NVIDIA drivers provided in post #29 used are
getting outdated.
