[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 797139] [NEW] multiple screens - mouse goes outside the screen and can't activate the launcher
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: unity When I have multiple screens of different resolutions connected, the mouse pointer can go outside of the screen in which case it can be very hard to hit the corner left corner and get the launcher to show. Depending on whether the bigger screen is a bit above or bellow the smaller one, the mouse can disappear on the upper or lower edge of the screen and it's hard to hit the upper corner (and show the launcher) or the lower corner (make the launcher unfold to show all the icons on the bottom of the launcher). This should probably either be fixed in the multiple screen management program so that the mouse can't go off the screen or in Unity to take into account the case in which the pointer can go beyond the screen above the upper left corner or below the lower left corner and make those areas also trigger the desired behaviour. Also, I noticed on some occasions when I am using multiple screens that hitting the left edge doesn't make the launcher unfold around the icon on that height (or let me click at the icon), but I have to move the mouse a few pixels to the right first - as if the mouse pointer can go 1px outside of the screen to which the launcher isn't sensitive. @John, Not allowing dead zones to come up, would mean patching up the internals of the Xorg stack (dead zones are an issue with X, and isn't a Unity bug). On oneiric it's enough to run: gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.mouse middle-button- enabled true that'll make it persistent for the current user, and you can argue about adding it to the mouse and touchpad settings GUI by filing a bug against gnome-control-center. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 800064] Re: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated
well the thing is this - if you get your hands on the laptop and physically turn it 90° then the touchpad also turns 90°, while the external mouse stays in the same orientation. i think when you rotate the monitor it just treats it as a 768x1366 desktop instead of a 1366x768 desktop (1366x768 is the resolution of this monitor), and then pushing the mouse forward goes up the rotated desktop. sliding up on the touchpad would also correctly go up on the rotated desktop except ubuntu/xorg considers this from the perspective of a unrotated touchpad. the probably is occuring not because the monitor or desktop has rotated- the problem is occuring because the TOUCHPAD has rotated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/800064 Title: touchpad rotation when monitor rotated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/800064/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)
@Ap. Syvertsen: Let's try to lay out everything clearly to make sure there isn't any confusion. The swapping of the meanings of good and bad are bound to cause confusion, so let's use the usual meanings for any discussion with the understanding that the meanings are swapped *only in the bisect logs.* You said, My linux crashes occasionally during startup with kernel 2.6.39-1 with this kernel BUG, while I'm unable to produce this on 3.0-rc1. I took that to mean 2.6.39.1 is bad, i.e. exhibits an oops message similar to that in the bug description. And version 3.0-rc1 does not exhibit the oops. Is that understanding correct? It's a little problematic to bisect between 2.6.39.1 and 3.0-rc1. The stable kernels (anything with the fourth component of the version number, i.e. 2.6.39.y) are somewhat of a branch off of normal kernel development, and the bisection will go more quickly if we start with 2.6.39. This version should still have the bug if 2.6.39.1 does, unless it was fixed and then broken again, but that's unlikely. It can't hurt to verify that 2.6.39 really does have the problem however. So I started the bisection by marking 2.6.39 as bad (i.e. good in the bisect log) and 3.0-rc1 as good (i.e. bad in the bisect logs). git picked an intermediate version for testing, and that is what the bisect000 build represents. That is correct so far as my understanding of the situation as communicated above is correct. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 800740] [NEW] [i915] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: Xorg server freezes randomly after an upgrade to Natty. I suspect this to be a duplicate of bug #740126. Most symptoms match: * Happens when the screensaver (blank screen) is active * The mouse cursor changes when moving it on different part of the screen, as if applications get events anyway (see comment #53 on bug #740126) It looks like it only happens after a suspend/resume, but I can not confirm this yet. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)
Unfortunately I don't have the laptop around where the bug showed up originally for me. I'll be there again on one of the next weekends. But be warned, I thought the bug has gone after updating natty a two weeks ago. I happily installed packages, got googleearth running, everything looked great, and than ... after next reboot - loose loose loose. Switched back to poor graphics with radeon blacklisted to have at least a base system working. [Cause] From upstream developer: The switcheroo code needs more work to switch properly on some systems it seems. There are a set acpi methods required to activate/deactivate the respective gpus. The drivers need to load and initialize active hw. If the hw is not active when the driver loads, then the hw is not set up properly and it won't work. Probably some ordering issues in how the switcheroo acpi methods are called. [Workarounds] Several options: 1. If your BIOS includes functionality to disable the Intel card, use BIOS settings to select which chip to load. 2. Disable KMS by adding `radeon.modeset=0` in the boot line. Note that the default radeon gallium driver only works with KMS, so YMMV. [Original Report] I'm running natty, and every since the upgrade to 6.14.0 I've been unable to consistently boot. After some discussion in the forums, I tried repeatedly to boot into recovery mode. In most cases, I got a black screen. One time though, when I was able to successfully increase the brightness, I saw some errors from the radeon module. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core
I believe I found the cause of this regression. The wacom tablet sometimes sends button presses on one of the X devices that does not emit (or has not emitted yet) traditional X and Y coordinates. This confuses the server due to masked valuators and coordinate transformation. The fix is to not generate and propagate any coordinate changes if the incoming event does not have any coordinate changes. Please test out the xserver-xorg-core package in ppa:utouch- team/unstable after it has built. The package version should be 1.10.2-1ubuntu1.2~utouch1. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 787587] Re: Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty
Regarding resolution question in #10. The sensitivity of the Duo touch screen is not close to that on a phone. Therefore, for a decent touch experience you need a larger resolution in the 16:9 ratio spectrum. Users of the Duo have found the 1024x576 resolution to be a good middle ground. A better answer would be for --newmode to work giving everyone flexibility...but just having an alternative of 1024x576 would be very , very appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/787587 Title: Cannot change screen resolution on Dell Duo in Natty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/787587/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 781402] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 / Unity freezing when screen is 'woken up'
This issue didn't initially affect me, but starting maybe a week ago (perhaps related to a compiz/Xorg update?), my machine started to occasionally refuse to return from the sleeping screen (launched from the screen saver, after letting the machine set for a while, or letting the machine sit overnight). The screen remains unpowered and all key combinations (eg alt-ctrl-F1) are ignored. If I have music streaming (eg VLC), the audio continues and the network light shows traffic. The last time it happened, I was able to SSH into the machine. top reported that Xorg was pegged at 100%. I kill -9'ed Xorg and the screen came back alive (with the login prompt, of course). I didn't see anything particularly telling in the Xorg logs (or system logs). I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit with Unity on a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop (with the discrete Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS running the proprietary current version 270 Nvidia driver). I am going to try solution #12 to see if it helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781402 Title: Ubuntu 11.04 / Unity freezing when screen is 'woken up' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/781402/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
