Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 753144] Re: focused, or maximized windows blank
No... it affects only older, integrated nvidia cards. My new nvidia card is unaffected, same with my friend's. If it were all nvidia products, people would be knocking down doors at canonical and nvidia, flooding them with complaints. It affects a good number of people, but most fix the problem with an older nvidia driver and a few more with BIOS configurations. Very few cannot walk away with the problem worked around. If one of the unfocused windows is selected, it gains focus, and goes blank. The previously blank window, no longer focused, regains its content and is no longer blank. Switching between applications, the ones gaining focus always going blank only to regain content after losing focus is quite infuriating. To force an application to quit being blank, another application is opened, and applications are switched until the blanking behavior begins for the new application. (I use terminal as my dummy app...) Terminal is given focus, observed to be blank, and closed. The aplication which was behind the dummy application gains focus, and does not go blank. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700646] Re: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected
According to the status matrix at http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/FeatureMatrix the NVC0 support in the Nouveau driver has improved since your post on 20th April 2011. Further to note 9 on that page, the upcoming Linux 3.1 kernel will be able to generate the necessary firmware automatically - a PPA of the first release candidate of this kernel (3.1-rc1) should soon be available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ See http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=OTcxMg for further details. The proprietary NVIDIA driver has also improved and may be worth another try - the latest stable release is 275.19, available from http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-amd64-275.19-driver.html It fixes several bugs. More information about the bumblebee (prime-ng 2.0) for Optimus that Rocko described above can be found at http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=OTQxNg An alternative approach for some Optimus laptops was also added to the Linux 3.0 kernel which will be used by the upcoming Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=OTQzMA for further details (this article refers to the 2.6.40 kernel but it was decided to rename this kernel to 3.0). Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot alpha 3 will be released on August 4th 2011 if you want to test it before it's final release on October 13th 2011 - see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricReleaseSchedule -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/700646 Title: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/700646/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 700646] Re: nVIDIA 425M (with Optimus) is not detected
I can confirm that the nvidia driver works with Bumblebee. Although the nouveau driver supports NVC0, it will not work out-of-the-box with Optimus cards. It may work with Bumblebee though. The recommended method on installing Bumblebee is: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mj-casalogic/bumblebee sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install bumblebee At the moment, the properietary driver is used, but this may change in the future. In fact, Bumblebee default to using nouveau in OpenSUSE. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 818862] [NEW] no screen when removing external monitor
Public bug reported: I use an additional monitor with my asus laptop. This works fine, except for the following. I have 11.04 with gnome (ubuntu classic) 1. when I turn my computer on with the monitor attached, I get a black screen on the laptop and an empty background - no menu bar- on the external screen. all I can do is reboot the computer with the on/off swicth. I have to boot the computer without the extra monitor, then plug it in after boot. 2. When I don't use the external monitor, I can use the laptop until it goes to sleep mode. After that happens, it's dead. All I can do is hit the on/off switch. So I have to make sure it never goes to sleep mode. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 752445] Re: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows
I just upgraded my laptop today and ran into this issue. I also found a thread on the gentoo forums where downgrading to 260 drivers fixed the problem, so I suspect the culprit is the 270+ nvidia driver. On my desktop running Fedora 15, I'm also running compiz 0.9.4, on gnome 3 in classic mode, and have not seen this issue. There I'm using 280 nvidia drivers, cause 270/275 were giving me issues with screen corruption on the desktop (lines below the panels/windows, incorrectly drawn shadows, etc). Maybe upgrading to 280 series might fix this problem. Anyone care to try? ;) It might be hardware dependent as well. My laptop has a Geforce Go 6200 (NV43) and the desktop has a Geforce 9500 GT (G96). In a few others posts I read reports on 6-series hardware. Can anyone confirm whether 173 works or doesn’t work on the current kernel and x server for 6-series hardware? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/752445 Title: Intermittent white window contents when maximizing/switching windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/752445/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: I have been using nvidia proprietary driver 173. After today's security updates were installed, including a kernel update, I tried to rebuild 173. I couldn't get to a console after stopping gdm. Since I now have no way to stop the X server, I can't rebuild driver 173. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573786] Re: Synaptics touchpad horizontal scroll doesnt work (10.04 and 10.10)
@Stoo, in order to confirm this bug we'll need to document it well before forwarding to upstream developers, all what we need to is to run this command: 'apport-collect 573786' from your terminal and please give a hint about your machine's manufacturer/model. @Andrew @Anton_K: thank you for reporting and reopening this bug I understand that this bug is annoying, but in fact upstream developers have a strict rule that ONLY the Bug's original reporter is the one whose logs config files will be used to investigate the problem. That's because one problem can have the same symptoms while causes may vary. So, would you please file a separate bug using this command: 'apport-bug xserver-xorg-input-synaptics' from your terminal and and please just give a hint about your machine's manufacturer/model, thanks. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573786 Title: Synaptics touchpad horizontal scroll doesnt work (10.04 and 10.10) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/573786/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
