[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze

2011-08-26 Thread phillamg
Just happened again, screen freezes for 1-2 seconds then goes black. All
keyboards and mouse actions don't work, including RESIUB.
Connected Android phone which did not recognise USB port (other than charge).
As soon as machine was powered off and POSTed it found a computer. Suggests
this is a kernel bug...

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 728923] Re: [Natty] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.38/drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon_fence.c:248 radeon_fence_wait+0x36f/0x3e0 [radeon]()

2011-08-26 Thread Federico Tello Gentile
I would not say it is not fixed. There are lots of different graphic cards
manufactured over the years handled by that driver.
This is my experience on a HD3200 card:

On a newly installed Natty, the problem appeared about once a day. After
the first kernel update that included the proposed fix I have not seen
the same problem, just 2 times in 4 months I experienced some screen
corruption which could be anything.

Ubuntu has not prompted me to report a kernel bug with the automatic
reporting tool since then.

Other cards may be different, but we should say which cards still seem
to have the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-08-26 Thread Seth Forshee
bisect018 is now available. This should be the last bisect build, then
we'll need to apply the commit identified as fixing the issue onto natty
and see if that fixes the problem there.

http://people.canonical.com/~sforshee/lp727620/bisect/

# bad: [3448a19da479b6bd1e28e2a2be9fa16c6a6feb39] vgaarb: use bridges to

git bisect bad 3448a19da479b6bd1e28e2a2be9fa16c6a6feb39

Now testing commit 8116188fdef5946bcbb2d73e41d7412a57ffb034.

The bisect identified this as the commit that fixes the problem:

3448a19 vgaarb: use bridges to control VGA routing where possible.

A natty build with this patch applied is available at the link below.
Please test to see whether or not the bug is reproducible in this build.
Thanks!

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:

 Bug description:
  [Problem]
On hybrid graphics hardware with this ATI chip and another (e.g. Intel), a
failure occurs resulting in a black screen and errors from the radeon kernel
 module, as shown below.

  [Cause]
  From upstream developer:

The switcheroo code needs more work to switch properly on some
systems it seems. There are a set acpi methods required to
activate/deactivate the respective gpus. The drivers need to load and
initialize active hw. If the hw is not active when the driver loads,
then the hw is not set up properly and it won't work. Probably some
ordering issues in how the switcheroo acpi methods are called.

  [Workarounds]
  Several options:

  1. If your BIOS includes functionality to disable the Intel card, use
BIOS settings to select which chip to load.

  2. Disable KMS by adding `radeon.modeset=0` in the boot line. Note
that the default radeon gallium driver only works with KMS, so YMMV.

  [Original Report]
I'm running natty, and every since the upgrade to 6.14.0 I've been unable
to consistently boot. After some discussion in the forums, I tried
repeatedly to boot into recovery mode. In most cases, I got a black screen.
One time though, when I was able to successfully increase the brightness, I
saw some errors from the radeon module. I took a photo (available at
http://i.imgur.com/P0bQ0.jpg), and here's the stack and call trace, as
best as I can read it:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 835135] [NEW] Fails to work correctly with attached displayport monitor (27 inch iMac)

2011-08-26 Thread Paul McGarry
Public bug reported:

Hardware:
Intel DH67GD Motherboard
Intel 2600K processor
Chimei Monitor connected via DVI (working)
Apple 27 inch iMac via displayport

When the machine boots the BIOS screen shows on both the monitors but
once X starts the iMac goes dark. It occasionally flashes blue, perhaps
as if the displayport connection is being reinitiated. X works on the
DVI monitor, but is extremely slow (mouse movement lags and is jerky).

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend

2011-08-26 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
I experience this very reproducibly on a brand-new System76 Serval
Professional with the base GPU (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M). Not a great
way to welcome people to the world of Ubuntu. :/
