[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 833840] Re: synaptics touchpad doesnt enable after disabling from fn+f6 key on dell xps l702x. Even after restart just doens't work now.

2011-08-30 Thread Ahmed Shams
Hi Amit,
Thank you for testing and reporting. We have some work to do with this bug.
 * 1st, I need to check if the problem actually comes from synaptics driver, so
please Alt+F2 and enter 'apport-collect 833840'(Of course without quotes :D).
 * 2nd: Did the command '$ gconftool-2 --set --type boolean
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled true' enable it?
would you please check if that command really did set the value, using
'gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/touchpad_enabled' what
does it reply? 'true' OR 'false' ? if 'false' please use the first command to
set it again.
 * 3rd: Please enter this command into your terminal: 'cat
/proc/bus/input/devices ~/Desktop/devices.txt' and attach the 'devices.txt'
file from your Desktop to this E-Mail/Report.
 * 4th: What does 'synclient -l' reply?

Thanks and happy Debugging :)

Fixed by 221_dixsetprivate_assertion_fix.patch.

Don't worry about gathering the backtrace, this should fix it.

2011-08-30 Thread Amit Rana
Hi Ahmed,

Thanks for looking into this. With no touch screen and no touchpad my
ubuntu experience is becoming really difficult :)

*1) I did that.
*2) No, it did not enable it.
*3) devices.txt attached
*4) synclientOutput.txt attached.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837208] [NEW] System freezes during login after upgrade from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04

2011-08-30 Thread lijo
Public bug reported:

I have upgraded my desktop from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04(both amd64)
Upgrade was completed successfully. System was rebooted and I got the graphical
login prompt.
Every thing was normal for some time, but while I typed the password system got
frozen.
Mouse pointer got stuck and system stopped responding to mouse and keyboard.
I tried (hard)rebooting multiple times, and each time the behaviour was same.
I had not experienced any such issues with Ubuntu 10.10.

After some search I found nouveau driver could be the suspect.
So I boot up into recovery console, removed xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
package and installed the nvidia proprietary driver
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-275.21 instead. This solved the problem and the system is
working fine.

System details:
Type: Desktop
Hardware: HP Compaq 8100 Elite Convertible Minitower
CPU: Intel Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz (amd64)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837212] [NEW] Black screen after resuming from standby

2011-08-30 Thread relgames
Public bug reported:

Updated from 10.04 to 11.04 couple of weeks ago on my Dell Optiplex
GX620 (graphics ATI Technologies Inc RV380 [Radeon X600 (PCIE)]) with 2
monitors.

I usually put my machine to a standby mode so I can just resume it next
day and continue current task, but after upgrade it resumes to a black
screen. When I press CTRL+ALT+F1 it shows console but just on first
monitor only (normally it shows the same console on both monitors). If I
restart GDM is starts just on first monitor.

Metacity, compiz crash with openbox. That left me the option of xcompmgr what
actually does well, except this small bug.

How I run xcompmgr:

xcompmgr -cF -t-9 -l-11 -r9 -o.95 -D6

which activates shadows beneath windows. And that bug described above is
my only small problem recently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 831336] Re: running 'xterm' exists X session

2011-08-30 Thread Joe Barnett
Nothing particularly unusual I think... gfx card is a ATI Technologies
Inc Broadway PRO [Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series]; probably most unusual
part of setup is 1920x1080 laptop screen attached to 1920x1200 monitor.
Definitely no idea why malloc would fail.

This worked in oneiric until around when bug report was filed
(definitely worked ~2 weeks beforehand, then didn't test for a week,
then failed). It also worked in natty, although I just remembered that
I was seeing the same behavior towards the end of the natty xorg-edgers
updates. It fixed when purging xorg-edgers ppa, and then remained fixed
on upgrade to oneiric.

will test with gnome-panel/unity/unity2d later today and let you know.
Am also able/willing to do any other testing that would help track this
down, as its 100% reproducible by starting xterm (and I've also seen X
crash more randomly when, for example, opening a new chromium-browser
instance).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837456] [NEW] [Oneiric] XTestFakeKeyEvent changes kayboard mapping to 'us'

2011-08-30 Thread marmuta
Public bug reported:

Typing with the onscreen keyboard Onboard on a system with German
default layout immediately switches the keyboard layout to 'English
(US)'. Touching any key on a physical keyboard switches back to the
German default. This can be repeated indefinitely.

Onboard uses XTestFakeKeyEvent to send key events. When switching from a
physical keyboard to Onboard, the first call to this function leads to
an unwanted MappingNotify event and the keyboard map changes from
'pc+de+inet(evdev)', 'German' to 'pc+us+inet(evdev)', 'English (US)'.
Pressing any key on an attached USB keyboard switches back to
'pc+de+inet(evdev)', 'German'.

Running any of the following temporarily fixes the problem for the current
session:
$ setxkbmap de
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

Restarting X brings back the unwanted layout switches.

2011-08-30 Thread Luis Matilla
same problem here with a nvidia gts450, nevertheless when I run from this from
terminal:
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep nvidia

I get:

Maybe it is only a jockey issue and the card is working fine...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813451] Re: Problem with xserver-xorg-video-ati at boot ubuntu.

2011-08-30 Thread mangelasakis
Here and 2 days after I did a clean install from the start ubuntu 11.04
amd64, do not start at all ubuntu only in low graphic mode. I do all the
upgrades and the problem remains. If I install the proprietary driver of
my graphics card then start normally but the computer is crawling. With
ubuntu 10.10 and 10.04 I had no problem.

I am very disappointed with this problem. I will probably go back to
ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10 if not corrected this problem. I hope there is no
problem in ubuntu 11.10.

2011-08-30 Thread marmuta
FWIW, here is a gdb backtrace with a break point set on
XkbSendLegacyMapNotify, probably the source of the MappingNotify event.
Apparently the keyboard device changes from physical to on-screen
keyboard and the two devices don't share the same keyboard map (?).

Hi Ubuntu Wizards,

Please consider that the same bug pattern exists for the Umlaut key ¨
followed by a vowel.

Lastly, you may want to consider these amendments for both uppercase and
lowercase vowels.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

2011-08-30 Thread Ximo Duarte
I have an old computer with a Nvidia GeForce2 MX200 graphic card, more than
enough for the use I make of the computer.
It worked well with Maverick. After Natty upgrade I could not start X, as
stated in the bug.
Following what was advised here, I activated natty-proposed repos and installed
nvidia-96.
When launch nvidia-settings it says I don't have any Nvidia driver. And it also
doesn't show in jockey (nothing new for you).
In terminal glxinfo gives an error, I believe I don't have any glx at all. I
read in some post to set gl_conf to auto.
I don't know how to do that, need some clue.
Or would it be better to wait until it is given a final solution to this
problem?

@Ximo Duarte: if you want you can test the driver in the proposed repository as
suggested here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/741930/comments/95

@Lars: according to the file that you attached, your card has 3D acceleration
but is blacklisted in Unity (probably also in compiz):

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

2011-08-30 Thread NoOp
I've just finished upgrading a system from 10.10 to 11.04. Initially I
couldn't get compiz 3D working with the new nvidia-96 driver
(96.43.20-0ubuntu1~natty1 ). However after modifying my compiz settings
to match those on this 10.10 machine (with the addition of turning on
OpenGL) and rebooting all is working again (Ubuntu Classic). Video card
is:

  *-display
description: VGA compatible controller
product: NV25GL [Quadro4 900 XGL]
vendor: nVidia Corporation
physical id: 0
bus info: pci@:01:00.0
version: a3
width: 32 bits
clock: 66MHz
capabilities: pm agp agp-2.0 vga_controller bus_master cap_list
rom
configuration: driver=nvidia latency=248 maxlatency=1 mingnt=5
resources: irq:16 memory:fd00-fdff
memory:d000-d7ff memory:dc78-dc7f memory:fe9e-fe9f

I'm able to do Cube Reflection and Deformation, Wobbly Windows (tested
turned back off), Desktop Cube, Rotate Cube, etc., etc. Thank's Alberto!
Now I can go ahead and upgrade this twin machine. My Compiz settings
(only showing items that are checked):

General:
- Commands
- Compsite
- Gnome Compatibility
- OpenGL
Desktop:
- Desktop Cube
- Rotate Cube
Effects:
- Cube Reflection and Deformation (I have the added plugins for this)
- Wobbly Windows
- Window Decoration
Image Loading:
- jpeg
- svg
Utility:
- D-bus
- Mouse position polling
- Session Management
- Regex Matching
Window Management:
- Place Windows
- Windows Rules
- Move Window
- Resize Window

Hope that helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

2011-08-30 Thread Ximo Duarte
@Alberto; thank you for your answer. I had already followed the suggestion in
that post and installed the driver. I then run nvidia-xconfig to create a new
xorg.conf (I had previously vesa driver).
But as I told you nvidia-settings doesn't see the driver installed. And
apparently glx is not enabled, according to glxinfo.

I have re-installed Ubuntu. After prompting, it ran a message stating
something like the hardware could not support Unity and to change to

Can anything be done?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 134944] [NEW] Keyboard locks up randomly while typing

2011-08-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I get a strange error once a day tops. I will be typing along and
suddenly the keyboard will not respond. The mouse works and the system
appears fine - I can launch programs with the mouse, shut down, etc.
But the keyboard is completely unresponsive, even the caps lock and num
lock lights fail to cycle. A restart fixes the problem. I get the same
problem using my USB keyboard or the laptop keyboard with no USB
keyboard plugged in. It only happens during typing, so I'm wondering if
some strange keypress is combo is causing it.

Any help debugging, workarounds, etc would be greatly appreciated.

My system:
HP Pavilion dv8000, Intel T2250
2gb RAM
Logitech mouse (BZ105A)
Tried with a USB keyboard as well, a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000

Kubuntu Feisty Fawn
Reiser FS + crypto
Binary Nvidia drivers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 741930] Re: [natty] nvidia binary packages for older cards - dependencies not met

2011-08-30 Thread NoOp
Added note to comment #103: Unity is now working with that NV25GL
[Quadro4 900 XGL] and 96.43.20-0ubuntu1~natty1. It's a little wonkey as
the left panel sidebar doesn't hide when a window should cause the
sidebar to hide. But it is working.

Thought that perhaps it is due to my install of unity-2d, so I purged
unity-2d* and restarted the system (soft-boot). Now having issues with
gdm (virtualbox 'Shared Memory Available' halt) so having to use login
in Recovery mode startx to start. Purged virtualbox rebooted. gdm
works again. Can start from the gdm screen, choose 'Unity' and 'Ubuntu
Classic' starts. Compiz settings are screwed up, so I reset them to
those of #103 (Desktop Cube, Rotate Cube, etc., has been unset. Window-
decorator is crashing. Very odd. The odd part is that I was able to get
Unity (standard not 2D working) via Recovery mode, so this indicates
that the issue _may_ be with Unity/Compiz setup configs. I'll have to
try to troubleshoot more tomorrow; in the interim, perhaps Alberto can
have a look give me some logs/tests that I can do tomorrow?

Scratch the last... I think it was unity-2d that was starting somehow.
Back to standard 'Ubuntu Classic' - compiz settings are reset all 3D
is working again in that desktop mode. Sorry for the noise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 837787] [NEW] [Thinkpad X201] Updated to Beta 1 + Updates and now X fails to start

2011-08-30 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

I had Oneiric Alpha 3 installed on a Thinkpad X201. Today, I updated it
to Beta 1 + latest updates (there were 650+ updated packages) and now, I
have no X session.

On boot, the system boots, and for an instant I see the purple splash
screen with the dots. Then I get a black screen and finally just some
text on a black screen. I don't get to LightDM or the GUI at all.

The text seems to be common startup messages. The last one is Checking
battery state.

Looking at Xorg.0.log and nothing really jumps out at me during a quick
scan.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 807209] Re: Lost glx after first upgrade from oneirc alpha 2 install

2011-08-30 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
I've reviewed the maintainer scripts of all the nvidia-* packages.
They're all fine, and no changes need to be made to them.

There are some comments in nvidia-current's scripts along the lines of
we can simplify this once dpkg-multiarch has landed, but that's just
packaging cleanup and shouldn't have any user-visible effects.

Can someone explain why the bug is not yet fixed? I think that there are
plenty of users (at least 135 at this time) who would appreciate a bug
fix. It is kind of sad if you have a more or less powerful graphics

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 516123] Re: xvfb does not support randr

2011-08-30 Thread Mugendai
This issue seems to have come back in Natty.

I see a slightly different error message than I have seen most people
report(in regards to previous versions)

RandR extension missing

Trying to get this working in regards to a Minecraft map generator, which has a
decent wiki page.
Wiki page shows it worked on Maverick and Lucid, and then stopped working in
Natty.

So far as I saw, the upstream bug was never fixed. Perhaps a merge to
upstream reverted this?

Please let me know if there is something I can do to provide more useful
details, but the basic thing I am doing here is:

xvfb-run -a xrandr

and simply receive the before mentioned error message.
