[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 555641] Re: MASTER: max texture size prevents compiz from running

2011-09-14 Thread HyperHacker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 824099 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/824099

I think bug #824099 might be related to framebuffer size (plugging in
the extra screen makes the display area bigger) and may well be the same
issue as bug #789385, whereas this bug relates to max texture size. The
former limits the size of your total display area, whereas the latter
limits the size of individual windows (which unfortunately includes the
root window which occupies the entire display area anyway).

2011-09-14 Thread Donatas Glodenis
There was another kernel update (2.6.38-11-generic), but the flicker
problem did not go away. Well, Oneiric is coming soon... Although it
sucks you have to stick to workarounds for 6 months, at least we do have
a few workarounds in case of this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 849782] [NEW] Screen jitters every so often, especially when laptop under load

2011-09-14 Thread Jonathan Lange
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo X200 laptop, and I run Unity 3D. Every so often, since
oneiric, my screen jitters. That is, it seems to jump up and down like
it has a nervous twitch. I can't reproduce it exactly, but it seems more
likely to happen when my system is under load.

I've monitored .xsession-errors when the twitch happens, and nothing is
dumped there. I've also checked /var/crash/, but none of the crashes
there have times that match the twitch.

Chris Halse Rogers suggested trying, echo 0
/sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll, but that doesn't seem to
correct the problem.

In addition, unity_support_test crashed while filing this bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676166] Re: Screen corruption when resuming from suspend/hibernate

2011-09-14 Thread David Barth
Talking with Jason, the bug is confirmed to be really nvidia specific,
and the only safe workaround from a unity perspective is to restart the
window manager to ensure textures AND GL windows are properly
reassigned/reallocated.

That's outside of unity's scope - marked invalid.

Hi,

I think this is related to xserver-xorg-video-radeon package as well
(?).

This parameter would be very helpful for LCD or LED TV mediacenter
usage, Power saving features cause problem without these options.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-09-14 Thread Bob Sleys
I tried the newly posted alps-reg-dump above and got an endless string
of output to the terminal. I had to ctrl-c to end it. Note I also
totally lost support for the trackpad. end of out and xpinut --list
below xpint is taken after running apls-reg-dump obvoisly, note how the
trackpad is gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 603725] Re: [unichrome] glblur crashed with SIGSEGV in _mesa_meta_CopyTexImage2D()

2011-09-14 Thread Tormod Volden
Danilo, it is still unclear to me whether the issue was fixed by
official packages or if you are still using packages from my PPA. In the
latter case, this means the patch works and needs to be applied to the
official package.

I am still waiting for the output from: apt-cache policy libgl1-mesa-dri

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-09-14 Thread Seth Forshee
Bob: It will finish, it just takes a while to complete. Yours wasn't
even halfway done :)

You want to capture the output to a file, i.e. 'alps-reg-dump reg-
dump.txt'. If you let it run to completion it will restore your touchpad
functionality, but if you interrupt it your touchpad will fail to work.
When this happens the following should get it back.

  for f in /sys/bus/serio/devices/serio*; do
  desc=$(cat ${f}/description);
  if [ $desc = i8042 AUX port ]; then
  echo -n psmouse | sudo tee ${f}/drvctl;
  fi;
  done

You will be prompted for your sudo password when running the above.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 832189] Re: touchscreen not recognized on dell xps L702x

2011-09-14 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
currently in the release pocket than the one you tested when this issue
was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the
bug if this issue still exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-09-14 Thread Jay Taoko
I have tested with a macbook pro (Nvidia 9600 inside). I can setup a TwinView
between my macbook screen and a 1600x1200 monitor. Unity works fine, but
twinView takes some times to configure. It sometimes refuse to set a
configuration that I know to be working...
I recommend trying again with the latest pre-release of Oneiric and report the
findings.

2011-09-14 Thread Ubuntu QA's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The version of update-initramfs that you likely have
installed is unable to work on a persistent usb stick. You can resolve
this issue by upgrading the version of casper on your system. This can
be done via the commands:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install casper

Then performing the software update or installation that you were
originally trying. If this does not resolve your bug please set its
status back to New. Thanks in advance!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 820918] Re: The screen gets garbled after a few hours of use

2011-09-14 Thread Mynk
I tried KDE today on Ubuntu 11.10 on my desktop. I see the garbling
happening much sooner - so it is not specific to the desktop manager. If
I refresh the screen somehow like say minimize and maximize a window the
garbling disappears.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-09-14 Thread Axel Pospischil
Hi Jay,

1. For more information: did you read this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/840462 ?
2. Did you read #12 ?

Could you be a little bit more declarative why you changed this to
invalid and suspect this is a bug in Nvidia-Twinview, why not Compiz
or Compiz/Unity 3D?

Like I wrote more than once Twinview works flawlessly in all other
deskop-environments than Unity 3d (Gnome-Shell, Unity 2d, XFCE) - I am
currently using it under XFCE. Problems I had with Gnome-Shell are not
with Twinview, but compiz / general performance.

So please until you do not file a bug in another context or really give
us some concrete arguments please leave this bug open. This is the place
where people will look for the concrete problem! Changing it to invalid
is not a good choice, cluttering things up in more bug reports - that's
my oppinion.

Greets Axel

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 747092] Re: [FUJITSU FMVNP2PL] edge scrolling does not work

I fully agree with Axel. I have exactly the same problems and I think
this is really unity/compiz related. Everything was working fine with
10.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 835811] [NEW] Alt + F8 only allows adjustment of height OR width (not both)

2011-09-14 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I have an unmaximized window open (say Firefox), and I tap the
shortcut Alt + F8, I can then use the arrow keys to select a side and
adjust its dimensions. But if I select down, and adjust the height-
dimensions how I want, and then select left to adjust the width-
dimensions, the previous height-adjustments I made using the down
arrow-key are erased.

There's no way to adjust both width and height in the same resizing
session.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576125] Re: [RC410] Radeon X200m poor graphics performance with KMS+DRI

2011-09-14 Thread ckx
I've installed ubuntu 11.10 beta-1 on a test partition. Xscreensaver is
no longer pre-installed, but after installing it and xscreensaver-gl, I
find glblur produces approximately 30 fps at a load of 80% and 28 polys.
Quite similar to the result for 10.04 with the xorg-edgers ppa but still
not quite as good as 9.04.

2011-09-14 Thread Ian Turner
Also seeing this on 11.10 beta. Note that there has been a lot of
fighting in the GNOME project over the finger taps; see for example
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=598820.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 840509] Re: touchpad triple-tap to middle-click stopped working in 11.10

2011-09-14 Thread Ian Turner
I should elaborate on what I'm seeing:
1 finger tap - left click
2 finger tap - right click
3 finger tap - some sort of window manager operation (using scroll gestures
here moves the active window)

Middle click is still available by pressing both buttons simultaneously,
but this is not available on clickpads, and is more difficult than a
two- or three-finger gesture.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 813343] Re: nvidia drivers, second monitor covered by black

2011-09-14 Thread Clint Byrum
Excerpts from Jay Taoko's message of Wed Sep 14 15:52:12 UTC 2011:
I will mark this as invalid, as I suspect a bug in Nvidia TwinView. Re-
open if there are more information to suggest otherwise.

I did actually have a more positive experience when disabling the second
monitor today with all updates applied. I was in a hurry and not able to
re-enable the second monitor, but will do so tonight when I return home.

Still not sure if your experience alone is enough to change from Confirmed
- Invalid, since you were never affected AFAIK.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver

2011-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

+ The problem here is that incorrect information from the NVIDIA driver is
+ tricking some software like Compiz into using an incorrect refresh rate,
+ which makes the whole desktop look choppy.
+
The cause of this framerate problem is the DynamicTwinView feature of the
NVIDIA graphics driver. It appears to be a documented feature of the driver,
and has been for several years:

http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/280.13/README/xconfigoptions.html
  (Search for: DynamicTwinView)

  WORKAROUND:

  (in /etc/X11/xorg.conf)
  Section Device
    Option DynamicTwinView False
  EndSection

  ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:

  Binary package hint: xorg

My Samsung SyncMaster 931BF does actually support 75 hz screen refresh
rate, but xorg lets me choose only between 50 Hz and 54 Hz. Modification
of /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not help. xorg worked ok on edgy.

  Here's some info:

  $ uname -a
  Linux Xel-Naga 2.6.20-10-generic #2 SMP Mon Mar 12 00:02:49 UTC 2007 i686
GNU/Linux

  $ apt-cache show xorg | grep Version
  Version: 1:7.2-0ubuntu7

The video card is Nvidia GeForce 7300GS.

  ProblemType: Bug
  Architecture: i386
  Date: Thu Mar 15 21:08:22 2007
